Co-branded items are items that have another brand name, logo, or trade dress
on the box, in the set contents, or in the set name.
Cheating? Maybe a little, but Toys "R" Us is in BrickLink's set name.
There are additional guidelines on that page that would tend to prohibit this
type of co-branding, but they've been loosely followed going way back:

Technically, shouldn't the set name be in curly brackets since it is not
an official name?

These sets contain 16 tiles, 14 of which are random. Shouldn't the random
ones have been blurred out so as not to mislead buyers.
|
As they're official LEGO images, I don't think it's inappropriate
to use them (and is similar to what is shown on DOTS as there is some randomness
there too), but we should definitely have a note on all VIDIYO Bandmates and
Beat Boxes stating that there are the 1/2 exclusive tiles, and all others are
random. Without the warning we will definitely have issues with buyers not understanding
why it doesn't match.
|
The ones that are random could be blurred once the submitter has checked inventory
to avoid confusion. One of the things often said here is you get what is in the
image. That is no longer the case.
|
We do not change official LEGO images that are used to show the sets. The set
inventories will contain information about the randomness of the tiles.

| There is not really any good data to go on in regards to this. The original inventories
for the set and the minifigure that contains this helmet do not have sources
listed and I don't have any solid images to go on, so I feel that we can
only look at what is available. And that is the instructions.
Since the instructions show a type of 193b and the image of the minifigure in
the BrickLink catalog also shows a type of 193b, I feel it is enough at this
time to substitute the 193au entry in the inventory of
with 193bu.
Therefore, this request will not be accepted, but the minifigure inventory will
be adjusted to better align with the image of the figure and instructions.

the black helmet 193b1 (Thick Chin Strap - without Visor Dimples). Not that instructions
allways are telling the right story, but I think it is good to add the 193bu
as a counterpart. In that case any black helmet 193au or 193bu will fit this
set. Anyone agrees with me?

Comments from Submitter:
I am wondering or the black 193au (193a1 and 193a2) are the right one. Pictures
on the web are not conclusive. Black helmet 193a1 does not excist and black helmet
193a2 is from 1978 till 1986, as set 1496 is from 1987.
Maybe black 193au is not right. Maybe it is 193bu (193b1 and 193b2). It can not be 193b1, because this helmet is from 1984. So maybe it is the black 193b2? It fits the timeline (1978-1987) with the set 1496 from 1987.

Everything would be lumped in the "Specials" area, leaving nothing in the other

Comments from Submitter:
Hello,
I think I have stumbled over a problem regarding the Yellow Brick 1 x 4 with Red Danger Stripes on Printed White Background Pattern, mold number 3010p15.
Actually, there are two separate patterns for this brick but one is not recognized by Bricklink catalog. The error affects to my understanding sets 6329, 6422 while in set 6565 the correct pattern appears. This can easily be verified by looking at the the official photos of the sets as also provided by Bricklink. Please, count the number of red stripes or check the color of the pattern in the corners! So a new piece has to be introduced into the catalog and sets with the corresponding numbers should be checked.
In the sets 9287, 4222 and 1106 the brick is also present but I am not completely sure which pattern is there to be found.
Hope this small error can be clarified or removed from the catalog.
Have a nice day

I looked at my other 6 battle packs and all 4 of my sets come with 4 61190d pieces, not 2. In order for the forum to go through I had to put to delete the item then add it again. Thanks, - SB

Yep. Nice catch!
It is used in Step 10 on Page 87 of the instructions. The other one in the inventory

Sets that were released less than a year ago *must* be inventoried from a sealed
set. In this case, someone submitted the inventory who did not actually have
the set. Once it was communicated that they did not have the set, the pending
inventory was deleted so that someone else who actually has the set can have
a chance to submit the inventory.

No offense meant, but that is a not a good idea. "Gray" and "Grey" mean the exact
same thing, so "Light Gray" and "Light Grey" mean the exact same thing.
Any names chosen for the different grays are going to be confusing to some people,
no matter what. It is absolutely unavoidable. The names BrickLink uses are ingrained
in the LEGO culture worldwide. They may be confusing to some new to the hobby,
but any color names are going to be confusing to those new to the hobby. The
history of LEGO has a rich color palette that needs to be *learned*, and that
is also unavoidable. Therefore, I see absolutely no reason to change the names
of the grays unless they are changed to the official LEGO names. That would be
the only one worth considering, since LEGO will never reuse the names ever again
even if they changed to other gray colors in the future. Any other change just
for change's sake is truly unnecessary.

The grays are a difficult area because of the history behind them. We can't
just rename one set of grays without renaming the others. The easiest way to
screw everyone up is to start calling the newer grays the same names that were
just used for the older grays. It would be a huge mess.
|
Not if as others have mentioned the old greys are renamed first and the newer
greys are changed however much later even if thats a whole year or so later!
|
I am sorry, but the terms "old" and "new" are meaningless. They are relative
terms that mean different things to different people at different times. The
catalog is trying to move completely away from relative terms because of that.
I do not see adding more of those terms as a solution to anything. For instance,
if LEGO were to introduce new grays in five years, we have to go through the
whole dance again because LBG would now be *yet another* "old" gray.
| | However, there is a need to be able to use the official LEGO color names on the
site.
|
If that is the intended plan of action then that would be the ideal outcome that
would supercede all the concerns I have about Bricklink colour names. If it ever
happens?
|
It could definitely happen. I have personally worked behind the scenes to solve
a number of color issues over the last 1.5 years by having some new colors added
to untwine colors that are combined in relation to official LEGO colors, having
some colors renamed to make them simpler, adjusting tons of inventories, communicating
with some of the color experts out there, etc. This is a focus area of mine,
and I am trying to move the site in a better direction when it comes to all of
this. I am very confident that we will be able to make some headway on this in
the near future. In other words, you are being heard.
One of my next goals is the Pearl Light Gray versus Flat Silver issue. If you
want to talk about a problem area, then this would be it. Light Gray versus Light
Bluish Gray has nothing on this one.

Randy

However, there is a need to be able to use the official LEGO color names on the

The way to solve this problem is to add a column to the BrickLink color table
in the database that would store the official LEGO color name alongside the BrickLink
color name. The site would then use the BrickLink color names in the catalog,
but the LEGO color names could be searched for and cross-referenced to the BrickLink
color names when necessary.
This would require the site to develop the solution and implement it, but it
should be the long-term goal of the site.

From a sealed set. Regarding 32064c - in my set there was a mix of 15 x 32064b and 14 x 32064c.
-- the question is if the set really came with the part 32064 which is already there as alternate part
|
The history of the 32064 parts is that 32064c was the first mold used until ~2006-2007,
32064b was the second mold used, and what we now call 32064 has had two variations
since 32064b.
So, the 32064 entry in this set will be replaced with 32064c and 32064b.

Yep, lots of variation in this color. They used to be noticeably more yellowish
on occasion — the newest ones have fixed this problem, but they're now a
bit more milky-looking than before. I think they changed the plastic type.

They did change the plastic used for transparent parts (from polycarbonate to

before that.

As for the 3684 entries, I cannot find any evidence at all that the hollow stud

These requests will not be accepted.
All of the parts are already assigned as alternates with the "different" colors,
meaning that the set could come with either. I put "different" in quotes because
the colors Flat Silver and Pearl Light Gray were essentially considered the same
color by LEGO during this time period.

Okay cool what about also splitting beards/moustaches from the rest of the bodywear
in the same way hair was removed from headgear as it always feels a bit weird
when your looking for wearable items like armour and capes only to find beards
popping up amongst them?
|
I am not sure about that one.
My line of thinking that I proposed to the other admins was that the "Minifigure,
Body Wear" needs to be split into three distinct new categories: (1) "Minifigure,
Neckwear", (2) "Minifigure, Hipwear", and (3) "Minifigure, Footgear" to account

The proper procedure to add a stickered Counterpart to BrickLink and a set inventory
is as follows:
(1) Add the stickered part to the BrickLink catalog:
https://www.bricklink.com/wantedCatalog.asp?catType=P
Help on adding an item to the BrickLink catalog:
https://www.bricklink.com/help.asp?helpID=71
(2) Add an image to the BrickLink catalog for the stickered part:
https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogImageAdd.page?itemType=P
Help on adding an image to the BrickLink catalog:
https://www.bricklink.com/help.asp?helpID=87
(3) Fill out an Inventory Change Request to add the stickered part to the set
inventory after it is approved by a Catalog Associate or Catalog Administrator:
https://www.bricklink.com/catalogInvChange.asp?itemType=S

The following videos are great tutorials for the process:

Unfortunately I have no source, but a very special memory for the set 6085. I confirm that in instructions (pictures and photos) that knight has no cape, but I am convinced that there were in the set that I bought at the time (2 of the 4 knights had a cape). Lately I bought this set again from ebay (95% complete) and then the minifigure also wore a blue cape.
I imagine it may be an inventory variation. I bought this set in France in the last year of its production (it was no longer in the following catalog). The one I bought on ebay also comes from France.
I don't know how to confirm this. I noticed that in the inventory history, the minifigure had been recorded with a blue cape, and that it was remove in 2008.

This request will not be accepted. Without better proof than recollection and
a used/incomplete set, we must rely on what is available (the instructions and

Nope! But at least it's got Binoculars in the name for searching. It's
actually used in more minifigs than anything else so far.
Plate, Round. Minifig, Utensil. Minifigure, Body Part. Not an easy placement...

I think that "Minifigure, Body Part" would probably be the best category, since
the other droid parts are categorised as such.
"Plate, Round" is a weird category overall, though, and it needs to be reworked
- For example:
Since a "Plate" seems to be primarily characterised by the presence of
a stud/studs on top, with optional antistuds on the bottom, the lack of a top
stud on Part (53119) and Part (15470) should disqualify them from being in "Plate,
Round". These pieces would also fit better in the "Food & Drink" category, where
Part (6254) is.
Additionally, if Part (73832) is a "Plate, Round", then Part (66789) and Part
(66790) should be as well (Or Part (73832) should be moved to "Plate, Modified").

Minifigs inventories can't have alternates, you will need to submit this
request instead to the set inventory where the head appeared.
|
And all of that was done a long time ago, so this request will not be accepted.

Comments from Submitter:
All my new red parts are 6628a, and I never sold any. Many of them came from parting out this set.
|
All of the red ones are going to end up having a round pin hole. They are all
in newer sets and the squared pin hole seems to have been something that was
phased out of the part in the early 2000s.

to a 'c'. In this case, you would have numbered the head 3626cpb0491.
|
Thanks Randy but just to clarify the first letter after 3626 is reference to
the mold 'c' for hollow stud or 'b' for blocked open stud right?
|
Yes.
| What about the following letters and the number at the end only I'm not familar
when you say 'Style' of head?
|
The 'pb' stands for 'pattern BrickLink' to separate it from patterns
that were originally numbered from LDraw or Peeron. The rest of the number is
just a sequential number in the BrickLink system to make it unique.
You can read almost everything you ever wanted to know about item numbers here:
https://www.bricklink.com/help.asp?helpID=168
When I wrote 'style', it was synonymous with 'version' or 'variant',
etc.
| Also are those that contribute to the catalog expected to get this reference
correct or will it just be corrected by someone before it goes live on the
site.
|
People that become used to the process figure out how to do all the numbering
themselves, but the numbers might still need to be adjusted. For new users, we
try to educate them as we make corrections.
| To be honest I always assumed that guys like you, Stormchaser, Hygrotus
etc... actually added most things and also cleared off everyone elses submissions
too but if you yourself are also having to submit catalog entries who's actually
clearing all this stuff off? Is it just Russell and a few back team staff that
we don't hear of? Maybe that includes Stormchaser too now?
|
The admin teams are almost solely focused on correcting, verifying, and approving
others' submissions. A couple of us do a significant amount of work to add
things, also, but that is second to our primary roles. I will add that the majority
of things are added by a small group of extremely dedicated contributors.
| | This is part of the inefficiency of the system. You first have to create the
part using one form, then upload the image using another form. The admin team
has asked for these functions to be combined into one step, but it may take years
for that to happen.
|
Okay cool its not just me then
Lastly should'nt the fields on some part types be auto filled for instance
it asks for dimensions on a head along with the weight though they should be
the same for all but I guess this is probably something else that needs time
to be incorporated
|
Yep.

Yes. Instructions, boxes, and promotional materials are all created before the

of these in 'Hollow Stud' too?
Its a 10 year old part and so is there any reason both options are not in the
catalog and can I expect more of the same or have I just been unlucky?
|
Both options are not in the catalog because no one has ever added the other version
to the catalog. And, yes, you may find more from between the years 2010-2013.
| If stud type is so important to people how is it that its gone unnoticed for
so long?
|
Not everyone who uses the site contributes to it. In fact, only a very small
percentage of users are actually contributors. You will be doing the whole BrickLink
community a service by adding this part to the catalog.
Cheers,
Randy
|
Contributing seems like a worthwhile cause but when that means I'd be contributing
towards something I'm against i.e splitting the heads so that one stud type
does'nt properly link to the minifig inventory I'm not so sure about
that but neadless to say I have submitted the hollow stud version anyway and
made my first contribution!
|
Wonderful! Contributing can become addicting.
| but just a couple of questions:-
I took part ref 3626 from inside the head and I assume catmins will add on the
extension of the part ref?
|
If it would have been a new head, then that would be the easiest route. However,
since this is just the 'c'-style mold of the 'b'-style head,
you just reuse the same number as the 'b'-style head and change the 'b'
to a 'c'. In this case, you would have numbered the head 3626cpb0491.
| I may have submitted it twice as I expected to be prompted to upload the image
which it did'nt do?
|

| Either way speaking of which when I took the photo I
noticed that all my Draco heads appear to have Dark eyebrows on one side and
light on reverse not just on this Hollow stud version but on all my Blocked Open
Stud ones too yet this doesn't appear to be the same for the current photo
in the catalog 3626bpb0491?
|
Very strange. It looks like you may have misprints, or these might have been
heads that were put in the Build-a-Minifigure bins. Which brings up the question
"Are there really 'c'-style Draco heads that *aren't* like this?"
If all the 'c'-style heads are like this, then you actually do *not*
have the 'c'-style version of 3626bpb0491.
| Speaking of which since the stud isn't visible would it not have been possible
to re-use the existing catalog image for both Hollow stud and Blocked version
or does it still need a different image?
|
Yes.
| Is my image even suitable when the eyebrows are different?
|
I don't think so. As I questioned above, I honestly don't know if any
of your heads even qualify as the 'c'-style version of 3626bpb0491.
Cheers,
Randy
