When I find a cardboard sleeve I get it in the catalog before I open it to inventory it. I assumed there were bands or something in here, but I was really surprised when I opened it that it contains parts not in the inventory. Unlike the sleeve with the minifigs capes, this sleeve was sealed inside Bag #1.

Looks like a packaging error to me. This cardboard sleeve belongs to
and my chamber of secrets (which I got as a child 17 years ago) definitly did
not came with these parts.

| I originally purchased this set when it was still in production, and since I
have purchased the more recent version, I've decided to sell the old one.
Interestingly when I look up the inventory to decide whether to part it out
or list it as a complete set, I see the inventory is in light gray. I know that
the set was produced in both gray colors as they were switching over at the time.
I have the LBG version. I see that the complete sets in light gray seem to
be in more demand, while the parts in LBG are much more expensive, yet have very
low 6 month sale totals. Just curious if anyone knows some history/demand for
these two variants? Seems there is not much sense parting out it in LBG if there
is no demand.

It is obvious from the instruction booklet that the triple plume (4502b) version is essential for the mini figures, but the small and large plumes are not visible and there is no place other than the knight's helmets for them to go. Are they truly part of the original set?

Based on our research, the part
was the earliest version, produced for productions between 11th-24th week in
1980 for the market of Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, Denmark, Sweden, Finland,
Norway. We have seen this part with this and two other trains produced in 1980
in multiple used copies and are already confident that this part was used in
early 1980 for these three trains (7740 and two other sets)
Since 1981, the production of this train was doubled, to be sold also in other
European countries like UK, Italy, France. This means 4093d approximately appeared
in only 1/27=3.7% of total copies of this train.
One of the exceptions for an early variation of a part to be added to the alternate
seciont is
When the scarcity of the earliest variant is high enough that it is unlikely
to be found in a sealed set, then it may be placed in this section.
https://www.bricklink.com/help.asp?helpID=1562#regularItems
So I request to add this part as alternate.

Comments from Submitter:
So last time I had 3 light purple 064 and 5 purple 110. This time it is 2 and 6. Assuming that the lower of each is the goal and each set had a different extra brings the part count in line with the official. On the chrome silver 4 3/4 stars, I got 2 of each this time. The other variants were complete switchouts. I think Lego probably considered the variants to be the same thing.

The box shown is the 1983 version of the packaging, which is when part 6099p03
was introduced. The original 1979 packaging shows 6099px2.
It's probable that somewhere between 1979 and 1983 the set shipped with 6099pb01,
but I haven't found evidence for this as yet.

Just be aware that the issue with those early stickers is really tricky. For
that one power shovel set you referenced:
https://www.bricklink.com/message.asp?ID=1179905
...there are two different versions of instructions, showing two different sticker
configurations. It is likely that both minifigures in the catalog are correct.

My bad, I accidentally left the setting on 'Regular' before submitting
- this should still be an 'Alternate' part.
Mind you, it would help if this field - like all the others - did not have a
default value...

Okay, so we won't be changing item numbers at the moment. I have added that
portion of the project to the Catalog Roadmap (currently item 30):

We also will not address Type 1/Type 2 items with this project. That has been
added as a separate project.

At first try to weight the whole set and check the BL weight.
Otherwise this link may help you too.https://www.worthpoint.com/worthopedia/lego-star-wars-7662-trade-federation-459893715

Unfortunately it is not clear if the parts used to build the set for that review
are original. They are definitly not new (at least the technic axle has clearly
visible signs of usage) and the user "TOOL" mentioned somewhere in another review
thread that he sometimes uses two copies of a set for the reviews (a new one
to show the sealed bags and a used one to show the parts and the completed model).
Therefore in this case I would not consider the photos as a reliable source.

I don't see any parts in that review that look particularly used. The Technic
axle has visible plastic flow lines in it, but I don't see any wear on it.
|
I have never seen anything like that on a new axle, but you may be right and
then everything is fine.
(Nevertheless I suggest to be careful with pics from that source. Here we can
see the wrong variant

Export the catalog to txt, and open in Excel. This will give you pretty much
unlimited ability to search. Write an Excel formula to find what you are looking
for. You can even write a formula to create the desired replacement title
if you like, then just copy paste the change back to BL.
Regexp is a little harder to do, but Google “Excel Regexp” and you’ll get some
examples how to create your own function Using Excel VB.

Or if you are just not into programming or that technical you could follow the
guidelines set out here for using the advanced filter option in Excel
https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/help/2720580/using-advanced-filters-in-excel-2010
Good luck with that.

Guess what - as an exercise I just tried this in Brickstok - it works a treat.
Use the filters to suggest the description contains a number or the word for
that number.
The only problem is once it found them all I could not easily mass update them.
The search works great though.

| I totally support this change
Consistency is key
Maybe search and change all you can find and then put it out there on here for
messages about items missed. That’s if the sql person is on holiday or unavailable

I have noticed this before and definitely agree it needs to be worked on. The
problem is (and I'm starting to understand the rearranging the chairs thing)
there are too many problems.
In the case of this problem, you can't even find the problem because you
can't search for it. So it would involve examining every single catalog
entry. All 100K+ of them.
And perhaps, when the next problem comes along, examining all of them again.
It almost makes a person think that there must be a better way . .
|
The answer is really quite simple - talk to a SQL person and they will advise
you how to organise your query to find precisely what you want. It isn't
rocket science. .

|
What do you want to find?
Something like this?
"* three *" = 153 results
"* 3 *" = 6675 results
"* three *" AND "* 3 *" = 16 results
As example, last search find:
"Technic, Panel Car Spoiler 3 x 8 with Three Holes and Black and Yellow Danger
Stripes and Mud Pattern (Stickers) - Set 7968"
"Primo Brick 1 x 1 with Three Flowers and Number 3 on Opposite Side Pattern"
Of course,I made query to find only for "three" and "3" on same description,
but with a regexp it should be simple to spot every "word digit" with "digit"
on same description like "blah with two legs and 1 arm"
Some other incoherence (digit 3 should be between '' when you have pattern
after):
"*number 3 *pattern*" = 22 result
"*number '3' *pattern*" = 3 result
If you know what you want to find, it should be easy to make a search query,
to spot the majority of incoherence.

Parts on Sprues - Complete sprues are included in this section unless

All parts used for main or any other model of the set go to the regular section.
This is a good policy for regular section. Any other part that happened to come
with the set, not used in any model, directly or indirectly, is better to be
in the extra section.
I see we will have anyway some inconsistency with parts coming with sprues, no
matter which policy is chosen.

So:
Three eyeballs, Three earlobes
or
3 eyeballs, 3 earlobes
not
Three eyeballs, 3 earlobes
...that kind of thing.
There are pros and cons for each option. Please investigate how the search mechanism
works to see which option yields better results.
|
Unfortunately, single digits are thrown out of many of the search results. But
I think in general one would find more numerals in item names than the words
spelled out simply because it makes the name shorter.
|
Please drop the keyword exclusion altogether.
It does not make sense to make use of a full text English language keyword exclusion
list, when the contents of the database is actually not normal full text English,
but a specific dialect: Bricklink English (EN-BL) in which it makes more sense
to search for keywords like 'with' and 'without' and for single
digits. It should be easy to adjust the database configuration. No programming
involved.

I do not see these parts used on any model. If they are not going to be in the inventory as sprue, isn't it better to move them to the extra section?

to be positioned correctly. I'm seeing hard white highlights on the tiger
figure which suggests hard direct light. Also seems the light is coming from
the sides, kind of backlit.

I'm going to let you help me.
| Phones are a pain because of the wide angle lens. You end up always having to
be between the light source and the object if you want to get a closeup. There
may be telephoto clip-on lenses that might help. Also a tripod/clamp/mount.

I have a Moment case and a Moment telephoto lens, but I barely use it because
it won't work for me. But I have a cheap, cheap on that does and the Moment
case holds it at the right position.

Aren't you the fella to talk to to get that changed, Mister Site Manager?
| But I think in general one would find more numerals in item names than the words
spelled out simply because it makes the name shorter.
|
While that is undoubtedly true, it's not particularly helpful in any way.
If you search, say, legs assemblies...
search for "three" you get two results
search for "3" you get: The following keywords were excluded from your search:
3
...however there are 13 entries containing "3"
Isn't the point of StormBluser's standardization plan to fix this stuff?
To paraphrase the StormBluser: why name something like this when 75% of the search
words are invalid?
Again, I'll make the point you need to distinguish between identification
and discovery. The identification of a thing is irrelevant if it can't be
discovered. People use the search box to find things, they don't browse 180,000
individual items looking for "3". Hope you get my drift.
Aren't you the number one proponent of making the catalog useful? Let's
figure out a way to make it useful.

| It would be good for consistency in the catalog description if all instances
of numbers were either integers or words, not arbitrarily some of each.
So:
Three eyeballs, Three earlobes
or
3 eyeballs, 3 earlobes
not
Three eyeballs, 3 earlobes
...that kind of thing.
There are pros and cons for each option. Please investigate how the search mechanism
works to see which option yields better results.

| But for all other sets, we've decided one entry is enough. To allow more
entries like this would create a precedent with huge implications. So your pending
entries will be rejected in a few days.
|
In regards to the two Unikitties in set , if you only want to list
one of them, fine. But which one? The decision is totally arbitrary. The box
itself is effectively two separate presentations. It doesn't have a front
and back, so much as two fronts. If you look at the instructions, they do NOT
have numbers. Instead it has two equal, independent instruction books. Really,
this set is two completely independent sets that happen to use the same parts.
As such, choosing just one of those Unikitties is a completely arbitrary decision,
and it can be argued that either one should be the primary.
|
The box, instructions, and LEGO set description are definitive about the situation,
although it may not look that way at first.
(1) LEGO lists the first instruction manual as the one used to build the house.
(2) The set is named "Emmet's Dream House/Rescue Rocket!", so it is clear
which model is considered the main model and which is considered the alternate
model.
(3) The set description from LEGO.com says "This 2-in-1 construction toy features
Emmet’s home which can be rebuilt into a rocket."
All of the key information is there to determine that the main model is the house
and the alternate model is the rescue rocket. Based on that determination, the
instruction manual for the house takes precedence.
| This is NOT a case where there is an obvious primary build of the minifigure,
with a side picture showing an alternative build. (Like a character that has
both a helmet and hair, where one is the primary build, and the other is an alternative
for play purposes.) No, this is outright two separate minifigures that just happen
to use common parts. This is a very different case than just about any other
situation.
|
It cannot be two separate minifigures, because there is only one tail for Unikitty
in the set, as well as only one set of ears, one horn, and one headband plate.
Therefore, we have to make a decision about what minifigure gets added to the
set for now. That minifigure was determined based on the above data that I listed.
In the future, when the "Minifigs:" section of an inventory will hopefully just
be an "Assemblies:" section which includes other assembled counterparts, two
different assemblies of parts can be added. However, we are nowhere close to
that.
The admins can discuss this situation some more, but I don't believe we will
come to a different decision at this time.
Cheers,
Randy
