What is the reason for not being able to get to this? It was brought up in very
fine detail in October last year and was brought up again this time. So between
when I first proposed everything and when it may eventually get implemented come
this October, that is one full year. I thought you were the one who wants to
solve issues instead of to keep putting them off? Or is that not the case anymore?

All I want, is that one thing that the existing Catalog doesn't allow … Attribute

Some things have a valid right to live in more than one category.

END OF DISCUSSION

Okay, so the end of the discussion has arrived. I'll turn this list over
to management to review during March:

https://www.bricklink.com/help.asp?helpID=2487

There could be subtractions from the list during the next month, but there will
be no additions.

SHAPE-BASED DEFINITIONS

The good news is that there was progress on further defining shape-based categories:

https://www.bricklink.com/help.asp?helpID=1568

Shape-based categories now have images that more clearly define the category
(a great idea from jennnifer). Those images should mostly be good, but I still
need to update a couple of them to address unanticipated categorization issues.

THANK YOU!

Thank you to everyone who contributed to the discussion. You raised some issues
I hadn't considered. I know these changes are frustrating to some of you,
but with written definitions we hope to have a much more solid catalog moving
into the future. Thank all of you for your patience with us.

Of course, when the site gives us submenus for parts we'll be able to more
sharply separate items to make them easier to find.

UNADDRESSED ISSUES

There were still numerous unaddressed issues from both this discussion and the
one we had six months ago. For example, we'll be creating a Slope, Wedge
category, but won't be populating it yet.

To better address the abundance of category issues raised, I think instead of
doing things exactly the same way in October we'll just continuously work
on the next group between now and then. A month wasn't enough time for people
with full-time jobs elsewhere to address everything mentioned and compile the
list.

We have 915 items potentially moving this time (up from 540 items last October),
but we still didn't make it to these suggestions from the February, 2021
discussion:

randyf
Friends category

Stellar
Technic category
Watch parts to parts
speech bubbles
combining door and window frames
sports cleanup
Connection name standardization – can be accomplished with title changes for
right now
(but we did get your Bracket definition update completed)

infinibrix
body wear – not until we have parts submenus
decorated slopes used as legs - these should remain decorated slopes

firestar246
elbow bricks to Technic, Connector
hair vs. hair combo – need submenus first

The_RealRedHex
Animal body parts vs. animals – not this time, but needs to be addressed

Ber_i
Fabuland parts - not sure on these
Bar parts – lot of contention here, so no changes yet

WhiteVanMan
Friends accessories - similar to randyf's suggestion

yorbrick
Parts Duplo Minifigure Modified head - need submenus
figure movements/changes - would need to be part of a much larger project

par016
numerous suggestions from last time – still didn’t get to most of ‘em

leopard37
utensil and weapon categories – need submenus

DeLuca
cake frosting
Plate, Round 1 x 1 with Binoculars (Robot / Droid Head)

It's not that it's rare, it's that it's not an official color.
I think there is a market for brittle blue pieces but yellowed blue parts are
just blue parts that have yellowed over time.

I know it looks a bit weird with so many extras, but this is what the instructions tell us, and both Peeron and Rebrickable confirm it. And we also reach the official piece count of 169 with these changes (when counting the technic figure without helmet as one part).

These requests will not be accepted.

These sets contain 16 tiles, 14 of which are random. Shouldn't the random
ones have been blurred out so as not to mislead buyers.

As they're official LEGO images, I don't think it's inappropriate
to use them (and is similar to what is shown on DOTS as there is some randomness
there too), but we should definitely have a note on all VIDIYO Bandmates and
Beat Boxes stating that there are the 1/2 exclusive tiles, and all others are
random. Without the warning we will definitely have issues with buyers not understanding
why it doesn't match.

The ones that are random could be blurred once the submitter has checked inventory
to avoid confusion. One of the things often said here is you get what is in the
image. That is no longer the case.

We do not change official LEGO images that are used to show the sets. The set inventories will contain information about the randomness of the tiles.

The Bandmates also include random tiles (1 standard and 2 random), so this will
need to be noted in their inventories as well.

inventories will contain information about the randomness of the tiles.

OK, as long as there is some way of doing it to avoid complaints.

As they're official LEGO images, I don't think it's inappropriate
to use them (and is similar to what is shown on DOTS as there is some randomness

The ones that are random could be blurred once the submitter has checked inventory

These come up now and then and it makes me think a really nice feature would
be if users were able to flag an inventory that needs work. Other people who
were willing could scan through that list and easily find things that they were
able to work on.

That opens a whole can of worms though for any sets with any type of alternatives.
Take:

Set No: 75188 Name: Resistance Bomber (Undetermined Pilot Version)
*
75188-1 Resistance Bomber (Undetermined Pilot Version)
2017
Sets: Star Wars: Star Wars Episode 8
Marked for Deletion
for example. Do we have to do it for sets with figures that are
alternatives (even like smooth vs non-smoothed hair Leia)? Blurring of pictures
can start with VIDIYO but then it would need to remain consistent for all other
sets with alternatives like these (such as DOTS). I'm personally not against
blurring the random tiles but it's just a thought about the impact for other
catalogue items (existing and moving forward).

I think I might have agreed with you with just leaving the Dooku/Inquisitor hilts
under weapons and moving the others as there is no question that those standard
hilts have many more uses than just for minifig lightsabers especially as they
now come in so many more different colours however the problem I have is that
I very much see the standard metalic silver hilts as weapons and I feel others
will expect to find them under weapons too therefore I don't think hiding
them away under bars would be an option.

The only way it would work for me is if all those bar holder parts were under
a new category called something like bar holders/Weapon hilts after all most
of these are also commonly used as weapon handles/components:-

Part No: 92690 Name: Bar 1L with Top Stud and 2 Side Studs (Connector Perpendicular)
*
92690 Bar 1L with Top Stud and 2 Side Studs (Connector Perpendicular)
Parts: Bar

Part No: 64644 Name: Minifigure, Utensil Telescope
*
64644 Minifigure, Utensil Telescope
Parts: Minifigure, Utensil

Part No: 11090 Name: Bar Holder with Clip
*
11090 Bar Holder with Clip
Parts: Bar

Also here's another one under chain?

Part No: 25375 Name: Chain with Tassel
*
25375 Chain with Tassel
Parts: Chain

Additionaly when you Look at the Bars category:-

https://www.bricklink.com/myImg/654346.jpg

I think part of the problem is that there is no clear definition as to what should
be included under bars therefore I would propose the following....

Rename Bars category to 'Bar Attachments' or 'Bar Shafts' where
items must include a distinct shaft pole for inserting into other parts just
as these parts do:-

Part No: 87994 Name: Bar 3L (Bar Arrow)
*
87994 Bar 3L (Bar Arrow)
Parts: Bar

Part No: 48729b Name: Bar 1L with Clip Mechanical Claw - Cut Edges and Hole on Side
*
48729b Bar 1L with Clip Mechanical Claw - Cut Edges and Hole on Side
Parts: Bar

Part No: 63965 Name: Bar 6L with Stop Ring
*
63965 Bar 6L with Stop Ring
Parts: Bar

Part No: 58176 Name: Bar with Light Bulb Cover (Bionicle Barraki Eye)
*
58176 Bar with Light Bulb Cover (Bionicle Barraki Eye)
Parts: Bar

Part No: 87618 Name: Bar 5L with Handle (Friction Ram)
*
87618 Bar 5L with Handle (Friction Ram)
Parts: Bar

Part No: 22484 Name: Bar 1L with Tow Ball
*
22484 Bar 1L with Tow Ball
Parts: Bar

Then I would suggest creating a new category calling it something like 'Bar
Holders/Hilts' for connector pieces and things like weapon handles:-

Part No: 92690 Name: Bar 1L with Top Stud and 2 Side Studs (Connector Perpendicular)
*
92690 Bar 1L with Top Stud and 2 Side Studs (Connector Perpendicular)
Parts: Bar

Part No: 64567 Name: Minifigure, Weapon Lightsaber Hilt Straight
*
64567 Minifigure, Weapon Lightsaber Hilt Straight
Parts: Minifigure, Weapon

Part No: 36017 Name: Minifigure, Weapon Sword Hilt with Dragon Head
*
36017 Minifigure, Weapon Sword Hilt with Dragon Head
Parts: Minifigure, Weapon

Part No: 64644 Name: Minifigure, Utensil Telescope
*
64644 Minifigure, Utensil Telescope
Parts: Minifigure, Utensil

Part No: 11090 Name: Bar Holder with Clip
*
11090 Bar Holder with Clip
Parts: Bar

Part No: 23443 Name: Bar Holder with Handle
*
23443 Bar Holder with Handle
Parts: Bar

Part No: 18673 Name: Minifigure, Weapon Lightsaber Hilt Straight with Ring
*
18673 Minifigure, Weapon Lightsaber Hilt Straight with Ring
Parts: Minifigure, Weapon

This would then invalidate all those grills, frames and barricade parts that
are also found under bars but it has already been suggested that they should
be moved further up the thread here:-

https://www.bricklink.com/message.asp?ID=1255674

That proably then just leaves a few miscellaneous oddities like this:-

Part No: 30359a Name: Bar 1 x 8 with Brick 1 x 2 Curved Top End (Original, No Axle Holder)
*
30359a Bar 1 x 8 with Brick 1 x 2 Curved Top End (Original, No Axle Holder)
Parts: Bar

Which although it contains a bar holder at one end is too much of a varied part
to warrant being cataloged under bar holders. Speaking of which rather than trying
to find a home for every single part would it not be better to have a 'Miscellaneous'
parts category as that would be the first place I would look for something like
this? I understand it will end up becoming a bit of a dumping ground for anything
and everything but parts like this are always going to be hard to find anyway
no matter how you try to category them. Besides this category could also be a
kind of temporary location for newer oddity parts allowing for more time to carefully
think about the best place to put them plus as the items start to build up in
this category it may allow for similar items to become more apparent allowing
them to eventually be calaloged together elsewhere?

  How so? The "Bar" category includes pieces such as Part (48729b), Part (32828),
Part (92690), Part (58176), as well as bar-based elements such as Parts (4083)
and (6020), so Part (36017) would fit in easily as something like "Bar 1L with
Top Stud and Dragon Head".

perhaps they should also be in the bar section, as they have a bar component.
They are commonly used as large figure weapons and wings, so are in a similar
situation as lightsaber hilts when it comes to multiple uses.

If and wherever all these items are moved to, it will mean that for everyone
that can now find them quicker, it takes others much longer to find them. It
seems the catalogue is almost being re-written with many pieces subject to changes.
I hope all sellers (and buyers) are informed and not just through the forum before
any wholesale changes are made.

If the parts are taken from a Key chain, this could be the case.

is so far always a lightsaber.

You are right about these two, since they were designed to replicate specific
lightsabers (Count Dooku's and the Inquisitors', respectively) - The
only reason that I want them in the "Bar" category is because of the consistency-of-placement
issue, but I would accept them staying in the "Weapon" category until they are
reused for something else. 😕

I noticed a store who is selling Torso's as NEW with description "pants are
glued to Torso".

I checked the same Torso from other sellers, and no other described it as glued
with pants.

Are Torso's and pants sometimes factory glued without the rest of the minifig
parts also glued?
