Photos from my sealed set. Note, the plastic bags that the parts are in differ
from what I would normally think of from this era (the stiffer plastic with holes),
but is similar to other sealed sets I have from the late 70s/early 80s.

Yes, I have seen both kinds of plastic bags in these older sets.

That is something that we are going to hopefully get to in the future for the
older sets, but we just do not currently have the systems in place to handle
it. The goal from my perspective is to get each inventory to have two separate
views: one that contains everything that a brand new set would have contained
(e.g. parts on sprue, parts on plastic sheets, unused sticker sheet, uncut hoses
and strings, extra parts, etc.), and one that would represent what a used set
would contain after being built (e.g. parts off of sprues, parts off of plastic
sheets, stickered parts, cut to length hoses and strings, no extra parts, etc.).
One becomes a historical record after time goes on and the majority of part-outs
have been done, and the other becomes the one that is more commercially viable
in the long run as new sets get harder to come by. Both kinds of inventories
have their advantages for collectors and buyers/sellers.

sealed that has the trans-red 1x1 plates on the sprues. I'll get

For what it's worth, I went and checked one of my 1992 sets that the box
had torn open (but the parts were still sealed). The 1x1 plates are not on the
sprue. An interesting thing to note was that even though the 1x1 plates were
separate, the molding pip was not on the stud like more modern examples.

Yep. I am finding the cutoff point for the 1x1 round plates on sprue to be around
the 1992 period. I have found one set so far from 1992 with the plates attached
to sprue, but most of the sets from that year are looking like they are without.

The catalog may tell that your copy was from 1993 or later.

I am not going to accept these requests as of right now for the following reasons:
(1) The image that you posted is from a series of photos that show no sealed
bags. There are also many parts in the image that are assembled along with one
lone 4073 in trans-red next to the two on sprue. Therefore, for right now, this
is not the best evidence and is inconclusive.
(2) Although I trust you very much, I cannot make my decisions concerning the
parts on sprue based on you remembering things correctly or not.
(3) I am trying to establish a very firm timeline for the 4073s on sprue. As
of right now, my timeline stretches from 1984-1991. This set is a few years outside
of that current timeline, so I don't want to add in any information yet that
is not concrete.

My brothers had already some Lego, but they didn't play much with them...
all from before 1979. (They are older than me)
but my parents also bought few sets for me. In few sets, the bricks 4073 came
with sprues and I remember them very well (in total I got less than 10 sprues).

Thank you, Stefaan. This information is greatly appreciated.
Right now, I am just trying to establish a timeline for 4073 on sprue in the
catalog, so I am only accepting changes that can be definitively proven. These
changes will be accepted.
So far, I have 4073 on sprue isolated between the years 1985 to 1991 with definitive
proof from each one of those years from multiple sets. All of this information
is not in the system yet, but I have a lot more to get through. Hopefully, we
will soon have a much more solid picture of when 4073 on sprue was present in
sets with a high degree of confidence.

Yes, there will need to be some kind of organization of them going forward, but
this section is a test run and could be considered in the "beta" stage. The catalog
admins as well as Russell at BrickLink will have to eventually decide what to
do with this section. Right now, they are monitoring how well these entries actually
get used and how well they sell.

They are listed there because the catalog admins would not allow them as minifigures,
yet users in the past have asked repeatedly for them to be included in the catalog.
This new section was a compromise. It is possible that someday the characters
in this section will be relocated to a new catalog section.

I just built the set. Quantity is taken directly from the printed manual.

(1) The parts list in the instruction manual shows 6x 4265c.
(2) 4265c is used in the following steps - 1x on Page 4, Step 4; 1x on Page 6,
Step 8; 2x on Page 25, Step 18; 1x on Page 27, Step 2; 1x on Page 29, Step 6
- for a total of 6x used in the completed build.
(3) The box lists 117 parts in the set, and the current inventory has 118 parts.
(4) Multiple unboxing videos show 7x 4265c included in the packaging with one
left over at the end of the completed build.
This request will be accepted and 1x 4265c will be added as an extra.
