| We believe the following is the whole evolution of this set:
1) Part
was replaced by
since early 1981.
2) Four wires
[p=94125]
were replaced by
two wires
[p=449918]
and two wires
since 1986. The wire 2776c28 was released and used since 1986 for this set and
7745. The instructions of 861 was changed also and we can see the change of wires
in them. Its copyright year is 1986.
3) In 1989, TLG changed the packaging of most train sets, including this one.
The size of newer box is different and doesn't have any inner box.
The photos attached are from a NIB one from 1989-94.

| The photos attached are from a copy of 1986-88 with the newer version of instructions.
Question: This set was released between 1980-94. Should this set be split in
7861-1, 7861-2?
The inventory of sets 7860 and 7864 are more complex.

That would be a decision for the catalog administrators. You may contact them
via PM or just submit a catalog entry and they will approve or reject it.
