  Hi All,

I have a wanted listed. And i want to see only results of the shops that are
in my favoriet list. I know there is an indicator, but i want to filter it my
wanted list on my favoriet shops.. is this possible?

Yes, kind of.

(1)
Above the results on

https://www.bricklink.com/v2/wanted/buy.page

there is an option "Show first: [] Favorited"

(2)
In your wanted list settings at

https://www.bricklink.com/wantedSettings.asp?viewFrom=P

there is an option "Sort My Most Favorite Stores on Top and My Least Favorite
Stores on Bottom in My Wanted Items By Shop."

This has effect on the Classic Wanted List By Shop:

In Catalog Identification, Carissamiss writes:
A “dash” is considered a flat bottom pin, so what you’ll need to look at to decide
is the group of four hollow studs on top - are they all connected to make a kind
of square with one in each corner? That’s where the difference is. On 3747a they
don’t connect to each other (older version).

In Catalog Identification, itsyourtreasure writes:
  Evening from Texas,

new to this so quick question

3747a vs. 3747B one has a circle on bottom, mine has more of a dash. the other
does not show the bottom. if its the dash which one should I be selecting?

Thank you in advance.

Other differences between these varieties are:
- the height of the tip
- the angle of the slope
- the size of the holes in the studs

  Hi all
I have this flag but could anyone tell me how I tell the difference between the
original and the reissue please?
Thanks

It is described in the title of both:

Part No: 2335p43 Name: Flag 2 x 2 Square with Black Falcon Shield Bottom Round Pattern
*
2335p43 Flag 2 x 2 Square with Black Falcon Shield Bottom Round Pattern
Parts: Flag, Decorated

Part No: 2335pb001 Name: Flag 2 x 2 Square with Black Falcon Shield Bottom Pointed Pattern (Reissue)
*
2335pb001 Flag 2 x 2 Square with Black Falcon Shield Bottom Pointed Pattern (Reissue)
Parts: Flag, Decorated

The difference is the shape of the shield. First issue is more rounded, with
curved edges that extend to the tip. The re-issue has a more triangular shape,
where curved edges straighten before reaching the tip (sharper bottom tip).

Hello all. This may be my first post here.

In the listing information of a set, there are two sections at the bottom that
I don’t understand. What are “alternate parts” and “counter parts?”

Thanks,
- Rob

See https://www.bricklink.com/help.asp?helpID=1562

Alternate is for instance when some copies of the set contain a brick with solid
studs and other copies of the same set have been found with this brick with open
studs.

Counter parts is for instance a wheel and a tire listed each separate in a set,
with the combination of both in the counterpart section. Similarly for unstickered
parts + sticker sheets in the main section, and the stickered parts in the counter
parts section.

In Suggestions, SylvainLS writes:
  In Suggestions, Ey.Has writes:
Another solution to the problem you mentioned:
Insert into the result the cheapest "set" that contains the item. If
I'm looking for a part of the set, I care less about the rest of the set,
I care that the item I'm looking for is there (and of course, the other items
on my list) I don't want to find a store that sells me 5 minifigures with
red pants, because in the end I'll settle for the cheapest minifigure which
contains these pants, because the main item I'm looking for is the pants.

There’d still be the problem of defining “cheapest.”

Cheapest is not so difficult to define, it is the actual amount you pay for the
item; the only uncertainty is the shipping costs in relation to the total order
amount as that adds to your total cost. And that only only when you have to compare
shop were this varies greatly.

What you do have to consider is the rest value of the assemblies you find. When
you need e.g. the arms and the legs, and both pairs are on your wanted list,
then both of them have value (But if the torso that's not on your wanted
list does have value to you? Nobody knows.) Even if you find a complete minifigure
to fulfill your need for arms, they also fulfill your need for legs. The value
of the legs for you is defined as what you are currently paying for those legs
while fulfilling your wanted list. It is cyclic, since when you find cheaper
legs, their value is less, and thus the complete minifigure might be not so profitable
to you anymore.

If it’s about choosing a store (Auto-select…), “cheapest” is already complicated
(shipping, fewest stores…).  Anyway, the feature is nearly impossible:

Nearly impossible yes, but impossible no.
When I started the major part of my collection, I implemented this 'advanced
wanted list' feature in Excel. I did have to feed it with information about
all part compositions that I was considering (mostly the plain and HTF torso
assemblies and the corresponding HTF minifigure assemblies, in the hundreds)
and I did manually pre-select the shops I was considering (also in the hundred).
It was a lot of work, it was very complicated, but it did work.

  the algorithm
already cuts corners for items you (really) want, it won’t have the resources
to add substitute items, that would blow the search space exponentially.

Not exponentially, but of some order of O(N2) I believe. Still more than I'd
expect from Bricklink. Even simpler suggestions to make the wanted lists more
tolerant with regard to variants have been denied by Bricklink as being 'too
complicated for new users' and 'we don't want this'.

I am not sure that the limitation on computing power is still a valid argument
nowadays. The argument of complexity might be void if an AI is trained on the
full catalog data. I would not expect a 100% best answer, but a suggestion like:
"You are trying to buy some parts of set X, have you considered buying the
set instead?" might be in the line of what the marketing people of Bricklink
come up with in the far future.

In Technical Issues, InanimateReason writes:
As I work through a client to do useful things with the Bricklink API, I'm
curious what issues other developers have experienced that may impact the robustness
any application.

One thought I just had was that there is no guarantee that the underlying data
is stable within the various catalog related resources.

An obvious example is assignment of part numbers. Clearly, they may change over
time. When they do, are new element ids assigned or would the element id be a
reliable way to ensure data integrity?

Would it be wise to preserve the old part numbers in some way either with a soft
delete or some other kind of deprecation flag?

I would like to work with the assumption that certain values are essentially
primary keys. category IDs, color IDs, really anything named xxxx ID. It seems
to me that the nomenclature in use implies that anything called 'id'
is immutable while anything else is fair game for modification during catalog
updates.

Thoughts?

There are numeric primary keys in the database, but unfortunately, those are
not exposed through either the API or the UI. I remember vaguely that years ago
I did spot some places where the primary keys were exposed, but I don't see
any of the catalog object ID's exposed anymore. You can tell from the changelog
that there must be some immutable primary key laying under the data that we see
through the UI.

Store Items still have an exposed ID. You can tell from the hyperlinks and URL's.
Other objects that have a ID=numeric URL are supposed to have an immutable ID:
Forum Messages, Forum Threads, Direct Messages, Wanted Lists, and probably some
more.
Color IDs are immutable, although merges may occur.

You probably won't need to keep the old Part Numbers, as you could always
trace back older part number references through Bricklink's catalog change

It would be wise not to limit yourself to only one country. Shipping from some
other countries to Switzerland may not be too expensive.

If you have a better idea of what you are looking for, you'd best make a
wanted list. Using the wanted list, there are multiple tools available to find
shops that the best for you.

Not possible (or very unlikely as there are 16.442 stores and none is experiencing
your problem).

Check your store currency versus your display currency. It sounds like some currency
conversion is going on between what you entered/see (NOK) and what is actually
stored (maybe USD?). If so, this is a setting on your side that you can correct.

1) Download the 76909 building instructions from lego.com
2) Part out the set on Bricklink in the 'Want' section to a new want
list
3) Remove the parts needed for the 'AMG project one' car from the want
list using the building structions booklet 2
4) When finished you should end up with a want list with all parts needed for
the F1 W12

Use Studio. Import the set (i.e. the parts of the set) and built the racecar
digitally, following the 76909 instructions you downloaded from LEGO.com.

Then you can experiment with different colors while simultaneously seeing availability
and trying out alternative parts wherever necessary.

The final result can be uploaded as a wanted list on Bricklink.

  Hello everyone,

I've been using the Bricklink API to retrieve pricing information for different
parts, and I'm having an issue with the "Price Guide" API endpoint.
The endpoint returns a lot of data, including the minimum price, maximum price,
average price, and a list of all the sales records, which can be a lot of data
to process for parts that have been sold frequently.

Ideally, I would like to retrieve just the total quantity sold and the average
price for a part, without having to parse through all the sales records.

Is there a way to retrieve just the total quantity sold and the average price
for a part, without having to parse through all the sales records? This would
greatly simplify my code and make it more efficient.

Thank you for any help you can provide.

In the API, no.

An alternative: For most common parts, you could use Studio and access the JSON-data
it caches for each part. Caching is refreshed daily when you run Studio. One
file for each part, containing info about all available colors.

See the %AppData%\..\Local\Stud.io\BLBrickMetaInfo\ folder.

OK, let's better explain :

#1/ Create a Wishlist from the set 31124 / Small Robot
-- you'll have Black / Dark Azure / Dark Bluish Gray / Light Bluish
Gray / Red / Yellow and Trans Yellow colors for 159 parts.

#2/ Open the wishlist and, into More Option, just select the Color Picker. You
have all the colors of the database...

So, according my point of view, I'd just need 7 colors into the selection
list.

Is this clearer ?

Thank you,

Vincent

Yes, now it is very clear.

What you see on screen is a dropdown list with all colors; this is part of the
user interface. This list apparently is currently not filtered on which colors
are actually present in your wanted list. You would like this list to be adaptive
to show only the colors that are used in your wanted list. Similarly to what
happens in a shop's inventory, showing only the categories and colors that
shop actually has. Makes sense.

I don't expect this to be implemented anytime soon though, as changing this
from a static list (= simply all colors in the color table) to a dynamic list
(= select all unique colors from your individual wanted list(s)) might be a burden
on the system (or the system's engineers).

Also, without more in-between statuses, the work process of the seller may dictate

  Hello all,
I stepped away from my Lego collection for a while to get involved in other things.
Today I decided to dust off my old 8043 Motorized Excavator to play with it for
the first time in probably 10 years. Unfortunately I left the batteries in the
controllers and they leaked. I was able to salvage one controller, the other
I will need to replace. Not an issue, I have more.
The real issue is the motors are all VERY weak. This unit worked fine (as fine
as an 8043 could anyway) when I last used it a decade or so ago. The battery
box was clean, I had taken the batteries out. Tried new alkaline, nope. New
Lithiums, nope. All four motors are weak. The gear change won't shift gears.
It barely drives on a hard surface. It can't pivot in place on its tracks.
It reluctantly moves its arm VERY slowly.

Sorry for the long post, but does anyone have any ideas before I go trying to
replace all the PF components to make this thing work again?

As an aside, I put some batteries in my 8110 Unimog to try that instead. The
motor was also very weak in it, even with the lithium batteries that checked
out as 1.63-1.65v, but it did work. Are these motors or receivers decaying over
time? Thank you!

Also check that the cables are not damaged and causing a short circuit. I've
just had my entire collection of cables crumble in my hands.
Check the voltage at various locations, over the batteries, over the battery
box without cables, over the motor connection and over the motor when switched
on.

If I want to place the motor and EV3 further away, is there a longer cable available,
or is there a connector to couple two?

The longest I find is

On the https://www.bricklink.com/catalogAdd.asp page instructions are not an

is the option to use. In that case, what "Item No" should I use?

The option to change instruction dimensions is hidden behind the 'Change

Please note that the duplicate may be in ANY of your wanted lists if you have
more than one. It is likely caused by a merge of two catalog items. The index
of wanted lists will indicate which of your wanted lists contains the problematic

As I saw Bricklink process my invoice for a customer, I saw that Paypal's
tax collection system collects tax on the shipping cost. Is that correct? is
that how it should be? It seems to me that shipping cost should not be taxable.

But the shipping costs should already have been taxed. The costs we are charged
by the post office or some private shipment company does already contain any
taxes like value added tax. If Paypal or Bricklink takes taxes on top, it means
double taxation. This is illegal.

Your claim is not true. If the postal charges are taxed (and often postal services
are exempt!), those are the taxes you deduct and thus there is no double taxation.
Even if you decide not to deduct the taxes you already paid, that's totally
up to you and not illegal.

On the contrary, Bricklink as a marketplace is obliged to calculate and take
the tax.

Since you already do part in Excel, I'd copy the order and wanted lists into
Excel as well and do the comparison there.

You can find all parts in all your wanted lists here in one list.
https://www.bricklink.com/v2/wanted/search.page?type=P&sa=1&storeSort=8®ion=6&sort=1&pageSize=100

You can use [Copy] + [Paste values] with only a little clean-up to do in Excel.

In Help, Ripperoo writes:
  Hi guys

Wasn't sure how to title this, so if it doesn't make sense, sorry.

I finally got round to retrieving the 70 or more Lego models dating from early
2000s from my loft and trying to replace all the badly damaged and missing parts.

It has taken ages already to check the completeness and create individual "Want
Lists"
for each model and I've now started to buy parts.

Each part in each Want List as it's model name as the "Remark"
to help keep track of what's what.

Each model only requires a 2-4 pieces, with the odd one needing up to 20.

So, I placed an order last night, which consisted of over 50 pieces, but nowhere
on the order can I find which model it was for, meaning I'm gonna have to
go through each of the 70 or some Want Lists to allocate each piece.

The way I bought was to find a part I required and then check the link in that
seller's shop to see what what else I required and clicked the Auto-Fill/Min
link.

I have created a spreadsheet in order to keep track of what I buy so I don't
end up buying duplicates or not enough of pieces where I require multiple, but
is there an easier way to disribute the received parts into the Wanted Lists

I have bought on Bricklink before and used a similar method, but not with such
a huge amount of models to take care of.

Wonder if there is a setting somewhere that adds the "Remark" to the
order receipt?

Thanks guys.

How do you know it is a minority? Since variants on Bricklink are generally only
split when there is a FUNCTIONAL difference, I'd say most buyers would care,
at least for some of the variants.

Bricklink has made their point in previous discussions: They want to make the
process for the buyer as simple as possible. Any suggestion as to add more flexibility
to the wanted lists (such as 'don't care if 3794a or 3794b' was
either ignored or rejected in full. According to Bricklink, the buyer should
get exactly what they order and the seller should ship the exact product as defined
by the Bricklink catalog.

Not sure if that could be done easily/automatically but I'm certainly not
suggesting adding work to the catmins for this!

Robert

100% - or as I mentioned in another related thread, if even there was a page
that automatically updated that tracked variants added to the catalogue. I'm
not sure how it works behind the scenes for it to even be feasible, but that
alone would be useful. Alerts would also be great, but having a page tracking
all variants would be incredibly beneficial because we could refer to it often
simply to educate ourselves to be aware that new variants of various parts now
exist.

Well, we have the Items Relationships log for Newest Relationship Items.

From the Catalog main page, What's New, More: Relationships

https://www.bricklink.com/catalogRelList.asp?viewDate=Y

However, we would need to be able to sort the results to show only the Similar
Parts with Different Molds and not all the pattern stuff.
------------------------------------------------

We have the Item Relationships tab and we can choose Similar Parts with Different
Molds.

https://www.bricklink.com/catalogRel.asp?utm_content=subnav

But then we can't sort the results by date.

https://www.bricklink.com/catalogRelCat.asp?relID=4

This is a fabulous reference anyway. I would just routinely check whatever category
I was working on when listing Used parts.

Jen

You can sort by date if you choose [Show Dates] on one of the category pages
and then delete the category reference from the URL:

https://www.bricklink.com/catalogRelList.asp?showUsers=&v=1&pg=1&relID=4&viewDate=Y

but indeed there are many patterned parts obscuring the more relevant variants.

The modified plates are also different with 6157 on the 11650 and 39767 on the
3225. I can see only one difference in the base part and that is the pins that
hold the modified plate.

Here it is compared with the White one from set

Please let me know if we have an alternate or a new entry.

Secondly, I was unable to remove the wheels from my used 11650c02 without damaging
the plastic. Am I crazy or has anyone else encountered this problem?

Thanks!
Je

The other difference is the shape of the LBG wheel holder plates.

Part No: 6157 Name: Plate, Modified 2 x 2 with Wheels Holder Wide and Hole
*
6157 Plate, Modified 2 x 2 with Wheels Holder Wide and Hole

Since these are deemed functionally different already, a new entry for the vehicle

You are confusing IC (Instant Checkout) and Onsite Payment which can be used
with manual invoicing just as well.
And the warning is there on top of every onsite invoice e-mail to the buyers
not to pay to an offsite PayPal account disregarding anything the seller would
say about this.

In Suggestions, Emporiosa writes:
Since marketplace tax inception, there have been countless posts about sellers
not understanding why they can't change an order to Paid/Shipped etc when
they've received payment by PayPal offsite. This is not impacting only small
sellers. The following two very recent threads are from a small store, and a
very large store:

https://www.bricklink.com/message.asp?ID=1395788

https://www.bricklink.com/message.asp?ID=1398000

As it obviously not clear to many, especially those who have been around for
a while and have previously had no problems accepting any kind of offsite payment
such as e-transfers, cash, direct PayPal payments, etc... It would be beneficial
to have a warning at the top of an order page to the seller to say that this
order has automatic tax collection on it, and should not be shipped if payment
was received offsite as payment must be made onsite (and a link to the page explaining
marketplace tax collection). This primarily impacts manual invoices.

Even that I'm not sure will catch 100% of these issues, but it could help
reduce them, and provide more awareness for sellers. Of course, if everyone used
100% IC a lot of these issues could also be alleviated, but BL does not have
any of the features of a more robust marketplace for handling shipping (such
as API integration with shipping partners, or even more granular shipping table
control). Speaking as a Canadian seller, our country alone has the most vast
variance of shipping rates I think I've ever seen, and we can't even
break down by province (which isn't granular enough either anyways due to
remote postal codes).

Long-term, I believe that more development on the shipping side for sellers could
alleviate many of the residual issues for more IC adoption. But a short-term
warning on these orders could cutdown a lot of the headache for both sellers
and BrickLink.

  Hi
I have been adding items to orders for the last 2 days and they are now all saying
either 'system error' or 'out of stock'. When I tried to add

really don't want my orders to disappear as I've spent ages adding them
and will not remember which stores had which items. Any advice/help appreciated.
Thanks

Putting parts in your shopping basket does not reserve them for you. Most likely
another customer happened to buy all the things you were preparing to buy. That
can happen. No ill will as nobody can see what's in your cart but you.

The recommended workflow is to gather everything you want to buy in a wanted
list and then - in a short time span - match your wanted list with actual orders.
The [Buy] tools may help you with that.

Some shops allow you to create orders in multiple batches. They will offer a
shipping 'keep order open'. Nowadays, these shops are rare - as this
does not match well with the instant checkout function.

98138pb233 Tile, Round 1 x 1 with Black Capital Letter X Pattern

It is there, but the solitary 'X' in a search term is treated differently.

  Hi all,

sorry for bothering you all and I'm new here.

I'm looking for a Powerfunction 4 pinned cable. I think the cable does habe
a pitch of 1.27mm. In my opinion it could be a AWG 34-36 size.

I'm looking for that cable and I asked at LEGO already, but unfortunately
they can't (or didn't want to) help me.
But I got the hint to bricklink.com, and tadaaaa ... I'm here and I ask you....

Many thanks and
best regards

Welcome to Bricklink, Michael. LEGO only sells parts that are currently in production,
but it is nice of them to have pointed you here. The Bricklink platform is also
owned by LEGO, but is totally independent.

Bricklink is a marketplace: a central catalog with tens of thousands of different
shops across the world that share the same catalog. They are independent shops
though, so beware of their store terms and shipping conditions.

With the link in the other post you can choose from all the possible parts in
the catalog and see which shops have your part available.

When you have found the part or parts you want to purchase, you might directly
buy them from the shops that you found. Consider that each shop will add shipping
costs, so preferably you find a shop that is in the neighborhood (i.e. EU) and
try to find all in the same shop.

If you have more than a few parts to buy however, you best add your choice parts
to a wanted list first, and go to the Buy page to help you select the best shop
or shops.

Bricklink takes a bit of getting-used-to, so take your time.

The newby questions are asked quite often on the forum, so it might be worth
searching or browsing the forum a bit too.

Enjoy and discover!

I've downloaded a couple of .dat files from Ldraw that are still unofficial
and copied them to C:\Program Files\Studio 2.0\ldraw\UnOfficial\parts but they
don't show up in Stud.io.

What's the trick?

(I did the same for MLCad where they showed up and were useable, so it's
not a problem with the parts themselves)

The trick is to go to the proper forum at https://forum.bricklink.com and browse
the posts there, or ask there.
The parts don't show up because they are not listed in the StudioPartDefinition2.txt
file, and you can't/shouldn't edit that file as it would break by any
update.

Only resolution for now: ask Cheenzo to forward the specific parts to the team,
or add the parts as custom parts instead.

Back in the good old days, any order could be changed from any status to any
other status i.e. Pending, Shipped, Ready, etc.
Then the status progression path was restricted, and orders could only be changed
to certain statuses depending on which status they currently had.
It seems to have changed again. I suppose in an effort to stop any nefarious
payment processes, an order which selected PayPal Onsite as the payment method
cannot proceed beyond Packed status unless BrickLink sees that the PayPal payment
indeed occurred.
I'm having an issue with this as I have orders that selected PayPal Onsite
(which is the default at checkout) and then paid through other means. Now while
I've been paid, BrickLink logged the fees, and the customer received their
order (and even left feedback), this order is now trapped in either the Processing,
Ready, or Packed status for the next 6 months until it is purged.
I'm going to have pages of these orders sitting as Packed cluttering my Orders
Received page and I cannot even imagine how many there will be by the time the
first one purges.

Nope. Unless you are in a state where there is no sales tax, you are actually
forcing Bricklink to skip the tax payments.

The payment was not properly performed, as it *MUST* go through Bricklink for
them to collect the sales tax. If paid offsite, the tax has not been paid.

The proper solution is to refund the offsite payment and ask the customer to
pay through the onsite link instead.

And to avoid this problem in the future, remove any offsite Paypal link in your
invoices.

I put together a build of my own recently, and it looks really nice... except
it bows in the middle. This is a strange thing to run across, considering the
parts I used are new and show no signs of being warped or otherwise bent out
of shape, but when I put it together things get all bendy! It's very slight,
but it's enough to bother me. I think the culprit might be the 6X16 plate
underneath, though the 2 2X16's also strike me as possible stability issues...

It's perfectly normal to occur and depends on how you build your structure.

Every stud-antistud connection adds a little bit of sideways pressure in order
to maintain the 'snap'. All these pressures add up so that the bottom
of plates extends and the top is compressed. Result: bending.

This is one of the reasons that in the BDP you are not allowed to stack large
plates.

A solution is to build 3 layers instead of 2, so there are 2 connecting layers
where the pressure evens out. Preferably with the middle layer bricks so as to
have a larger height and tenfold rigidity.

I reckon the original part "2641a" was not structually stable enough
so TLG made "2641b"

However, the "cut out" under the top plate was never used to any effect
in the two sets that used the part?

So TLG could have gone with "2641b" from the start ...

I only noticed this after buying a bunch for a MOC and I wanted to put a 4x4
structure uunder the supports. Not doable with half of them

This part was also made in black for the Blacktron prototype set btw

What do you think?

Cheers,

Does anyone know how to properly put in what you want/remove the wanted amount?

Thanks

The error points to an error in *ANY* of your wanted lists. This was not caused
by you, but is a side effect of a merge on the catalog side. You have to first
correct the duplicate in the list that is causing the problem, then continue
editing the wanted list you want to change. There should be a warning sign next
to the wanted list that is causing the problem.
