I have owned a copy of 7740 since 1984, and I remember dismantling it to build the alternative model only once... Of course that sticker got a little perished in doing so... [...]

The set 7735 was produced between 1985 and 1990, the part 73090b appeared first in sets in 1987, so in the first production runs (1985-1987) part 73090a was included, [...]

The inventory of set 7865 is correct! From 1980 to 1987 part 73090a was included in it, while after 1987 you could find part 73090b in it.
