Please make changes to the following inventory:

Set No: 7838 Name: Freight Loading Depot with Wagon
*
7838-1 (Inv) Freight Loading Depot with Wagon
313 Parts, 3 Minifigures, 1983
Sets: Train: 4.5V

* Add 2 Part 4276 Black Hinge Plate 1 x 2 with 2 Fingers (Alternate)

Comments from Submitter:
Seems that in some sets the 2 "4276a Hinge Plate 1 x 2 with 2 Fingers and SOLID Studs" has been superseded by ALTERNATE Lego part "4276b Hinge Plate 1 x 2 with 2 Fingers and HOLLOW Studs" as confirmed in rebrickable.com inventory. I have the 7838 set and I found 2 4276b parts.
However in BrickLink inventory seems that the 4276b is called 4276??? I can provide a photo.

The set was given to me as a gift when I was a child. I don't remember exactly
when but I think it was in the second half of the 80s. It was NEW, SEALED and
I'm the first and only owner of this set. I don't have any other lego
sets with similar pieces.
According to Bricklink the 4276a pieces were made between 1981 and 1986 and the
2 4276 pices in my set were made between 1981 and 2006.
As I wrote before also Rebrickable says that it looks like that has been superseded
by LEGO Part 4276 (called 4726b on Rebrickable) with Hollow Studs.

I've uploaded a picture.

Thanks for the time you spent to submit this inventory and reply to my message.
Like you, I started to do some changes two years ago and now, I have made about
990 inventory changes. Many of them are for trains and train-related sets from
80s.
You can check the past changes on any inventory by clicking on "log of completed
changes" at the bottom of the inventory page. For this set, here is the link:
https://www.bricklink.com/catalogInvChangeItem.asp?itemType=S&itemNo=7838-1&viewDate=Y&viewStatus=1

You can click on the icon on the right side and read the discussion for each
inventory change. For example, this is the one for the last change:
https://www.bricklink.com/messageThread.asp?ID=249835

  The set was given to me as a gift when I was a child. I don't remember exactly
when but I think it was in the second half of the 80s. It was NEW, SEALED and
I'm the first and only owner of this set. I don't have any other lego
sets with similar pieces.

Great. But we cannot ignore the chance that the parts might have been mixed since
35 years ago. We can further examine your copy. Could you please check what you
have with your set:
1) this

Part No: 4476a  Name: Support 2 x 4 x 5 Stanchion Inclined, 3mm Wide Posts
*
4476a Support 2 x 4 x 5 Stanchion Inclined, 3mm Wide Posts
Parts: Support {Black}

or

Part No: 4476b  Name: Support 2 x 4 x 5 Stanchion Inclined, 5mm Wide Posts
*
4476b Support 2 x 4 x 5 Stanchion Inclined, 5mm Wide Posts
Parts: Support {Black}

2) this

Part No: 3811p01 Name: Baseplate 32 x 32 with Set 7838 Dots Pattern
*
3811p01 Baseplate 32 x 32 with Set 7838 Dots Pattern
Parts: Baseplate {Light Gray}
or

Part No: 3811  Name: Baseplate 32 x 32
*
3811 Baseplate 32 x 32
Parts: Baseplate {Light Gray}

  According to Bricklink the 4276a pieces were made between 1981 and 1986 and

Bricklink says this piece was used for sets that were released for first time
in 1981-86 but it does not say that this piece was made in 1981. To be clear,
this piece was used as "alternate" for sets

Set No: 8844  Name: Helicopter
*
8844-1 (Inv) Helicopter
316 Parts, 1981
Sets: Technic: Expert Builder
and

Set No: 8848 Name: Power Truck
*
8848-1 (Inv) Power Truck
398 Parts, 1981
Sets: Technic: Expert Builder
In other words, these 2 sets first came with

Part No: hngpltD Name: Hinge Plate 1 x 2 with Double Finger on End
*
hngpltD Hinge Plate 1 x 2 with Double Finger on End
Parts: Hinge
and

Part No: hngpltS Name: Hinge Plate 1 x 2 with Single Finger on End
*
hngpltS Hinge Plate 1 x 2 with Single Finger on End
Parts: Hinge
then in later production runs (probably about 1982) the later versions

Part No: 4275a Name: Hinge Plate 1 x 2 with 3 Fingers on End - Solid Studs
*
4275a Hinge Plate 1 x 2 with 3 Fingers on End - Solid Studs
Parts: Hinge
and

Part No: 4276a Name: Hinge Plate 1 x 2 with 2 Fingers on End - Solid Studs
*
4276a Hinge Plate 1 x 2 with 2 Fingers on End - Solid Studs
Parts: Hinge
came with these two sets.

It is also true that these hinges with solid stud appear as regular for some
sets released in 1985 or 1986, but they are most likely wrong. As of today, I
have not seen any new copy of a set from 1985 or later that came with

Part No: 4275a Name: Hinge Plate 1 x 2 with 3 Fingers on End - Solid Studs
*
4275a Hinge Plate 1 x 2 with 3 Fingers on End - Solid Studs
Parts: Hinge
and

Part No: 4276a Name: Hinge Plate 1 x 2 with 2 Fingers on End - Solid Studs
*
4276a Hinge Plate 1 x 2 with 2 Fingers on End - Solid Studs
Parts: Hinge
If what you say is correct, your copy would be the first set I have seen having
a hinge with hollow stud that was produced before 1985!

I own a copy that was produced and released in late 1984. It came with alternate
baseplate

Part No: 3811  Name: Baseplate 32 x 32
*
3811 Baseplate 32 x 32
Parts: Baseplate {Light Gray}
(because TLG ran out of the baseplates with white dots so they used what they
had available)
and in the box, there was a catalog from 1986, again because this set was supposed
to be sold in very late 1984 or even early 1985 so a catalog of 1984 was of no
use for advertizement.

  the 2 4276 pices in my set were made between 1981 and 2006.
As I wrote before also Rebrickable says that it looks like that has been superseded
by LEGO Part 4276 (called 4726b on Rebrickable) with Hollow Studs.

I took a look and the inventories on Rebrickable are very wrong. For exmample,
we already removed the hinges with solid studs from the train

Set No: 7735 Name: Freight Train
*
7735-1 (Inv) Freight Train
492 Parts, 2 Minifigures, 1985
Sets: Train: 12V
or

Set No: 7745 Name: High-Speed City Express Passenger Train
*
7745-1 (Inv) High-Speed City Express Passenger Train
695 Parts, 10 Minifigures, 1985
Sets: Train: 12V
but see their inventories on rebriackable. It is so wrong. On that website, there
is no alternate section. I am sure Bricklink is ways more trustable

I've uploaded a picture.

Great. But we cannot ignore the chance that the parts might have been mixed since
35 years ago.

I exclude that parts have been mixed because I have only few lego sets. I have
checked all of them with Bricklink inventory and none of my sets have pieces
similar to 4276.

Parts: Support {Black}

or

Part No: 4476b  Name: Support 2 x 4 x 5 Stanchion Inclined, 5mm Wide Posts
*
4476b Support 2 x 4 x 5 Stanchion Inclined, 5mm Wide Posts
Parts: Support {Black}

None of the two. I have the third version with no number. The 5 mm Reinforced.
So there is a second difference in my set! Also Rebrickable says that it looks
like this part has been superseded by LEGO Part 4476b.

  2) this

Part No: 3811p01 Name: Baseplate 32 x 32 with Set 7838 Dots Pattern
*
3811p01 Baseplate 32 x 32 with Set 7838 Dots Pattern
Parts: Baseplate {Light Gray}
or

Part No: 3811  Name: Baseplate 32 x 32
*
3811 Baseplate 32 x 32
Parts: Baseplate {Light Gray}

I have the one with dots pattern.

  According to Bricklink the 4276a pieces were made between 1981 and 1986 and

Bricklink says this piece was used for sets that were released for first time
in 1981-86 but it does not say that this piece was made in 1981.

OK but anyway according to Bricklink my 4276 Hinge Plate 1 x 2 with 2 Fingers
(Hollow studs) were used for set released in 1981 - 2006 and were used in 266
sets compared to 29 sets only of the solid studs version.

My set has instruction book with date 1983 on the first page and a catalog with
date 1983 in the last page. Both are printed in Germany by "Frank Druck, Preetz/Holst."
Also on the box there is the 1983 date.
Catalog is written in German, French and Italian but NOT in English. So probably
my set was made for Europe and not for North America in a European factory. I
think that TLG had already many factories worldwide in the 80s.

As you are canadian I suppose you have seen mostly or only north american sets,
haven't you? Maybe this can explain the differences? Because with "Support
2 x 4 x 5 Stanchion Inclined" I have now 2 different pieces compared to
Bricklink inventory!

As suggested by lego.12vtrains I'm posting some images of my set and the
2 type pieces which are different from Bricklink inventory.

In the first image you can see the 10 Hinge Plate with 3 Fingers and Solid Studs
and the 2 Hinge Plate with 2 Fingers and Hollow Studs.
In the second image you can see the 5 mm wide and the reinforcement just under
the top of the pieces.

and in the box, there was a catalog from 1986, again because this set was supposed
to be sold in very late 1985 or even early 1986 so a catalog of 1985 was of no
use for advertisement.

  the 2 4276 pices in my set were made between 1981 and 2006.
As I wrote before also Rebrickable says that it looks like that has been superseded
by LEGO Part 4276 (called 4726b on Rebrickable) with Hollow Studs.

I took a look and the inventories on Rebrickable are very wrong. For exmample,
we already removed the hinges with solid studs from the train

Set No: 7735 Name: Freight Train
*
7735-1 (Inv) Freight Train
492 Parts, 2 Minifigures, 1985
Sets: Train: 12V
or

Set No: 7745 Name: High-Speed City Express Passenger Train
*
7745-1 (Inv) High-Speed City Express Passenger Train
695 Parts, 10 Minifigures, 1985
Sets: Train: 12V
but see their inventories on rebriackable. It is so wrong. On that website, there
is no alternate section. I am sure Bricklink is ways more trustable

I've uploaded a picture.

It is shown in european catalogs from 1985, so my guess is it was still produced
in that year. Based on...

Part No: 4275 Name: Hinge Plate 1 x 2 with 3 Fingers on End (Undetermined Type)
*
4275 Hinge Plate 1 x 2 with 3 Fingers on End (Undetermined Type)
Parts: Hinge
and

Part No: 4276 Name: Hinge Plate 1 x 2 with 2 Fingers on End (Undetermined Type)
*
4276 Hinge Plate 1 x 2 with 2 Fingers on End (Undetermined Type)
Parts: Hinge
with hollow stud were first produced in 1985.

...it is possible that late copies came with the hollow stud variant, isn't
it?

Hello guys,

Reza you are not completely right: here in Italy (and I think in other countries
too) the set 7838 was sold in markets until the end of 1985, as a proof I attach
below the pictures from the 1985 Large Italian catalogue (94350-I).
So there is a very good chance that both part 4275 and 4276 were included in
this set as alternate parts.

When I submitted my inventory change here
https://www.bricklink.com/messageThread.asp?ID=249835

I knew it was available in 1985. My new copy comes with a catalog from 1986.
I just forgot and did not check every single detail again, when I wrote that
comment. I cancel it know and edit and rewrite it again. (we cannot edit)
