The set 7745 was produced between 1985 and 1990, the part 73090b appeared first
in sets in 1987, so in the first production runs (1985-1987) part 73090a was
included, while in the late production runs (1987-1990) part 73090b was included.
The inventory of set 7865 consider this alternative too.

Here below 3 pictures of a MISB set; the motor is dated 45 8 (45th week of 1988).

Here below 2 pictures of a second hand set (one weight can be clearly recognized
between the 2 black windows).

On the other hand, here below an example of a second hand set with part 73090a.

Special thanks to Morris for finding this variation for the sets 7735 and 7745.

Three photos (1-3) of comparison between
73090a train weight type 1 (1980-86), and
73090b train weight type 2 (1987-94).

Note that one the first photo, we can see that for 73090 type 1, there is no
Lego logo molded inside half of the studs, in a zigzag way. But there are Lego
logos inside all studs for 73090a type 2.

Photos 4-6 from a MISB set, the motor is dated 45 8 (45th week of 1988). The
4th photo is the best one.

To prevent any unexpected event, photos 7-8 are attached of a MISB 7745 from
very early 1985 with train weights type 1 73090a.

(sorry for quality, but I can see on my laptop easily that there some studs don't
have Lego logo, but website changes the quality of photo after I upload it)

Does that mean this set's inventory needs correction?

Set No: 7865 Name: 12V Motor
*
7865-1 (Inv) 12V Motor
19 Parts, 1980
Sets: Train: Supplemental: 12V

Looks like

Part No: 73090b Name: Brick, Modified 2 x 6 x 2 Weight - Bottom Sealed, Dimple on Ends
*
73090b Brick, Modified 2 x 6 x 2 Weight - Bottom Sealed, Dimple on Ends
Parts: Brick, Modified

appears in that one set from 1980 and does not appear again until '87. Your
requests, BTW, were approved.

The inventory of set 7865 is correct! From 1980 to 1987 part 73090a was included
in it, while after 1987 you could find part 73090b in it.
