Does not make sense.

  Buyer files PayPal claim/dispute claiming package is not received

The tracking shows the item is received and it matches to the address on Bricklink
and PayPal (warehouse address)

  or item is damaged.

He can always do that, even if the item is shipped to his residential address.

   Or goes to bank and says credit card was used without authorization.

He can always do that, even if the item is shipped to his residential address.

Comments from Submitter:
I have bought 8 boxed copies of this set from all countries to complete 6 variations of boxes with all inner trays. Have got many complete/incomplete copies.
This set comes with at least three variations of connectors but I never a wire of that length in my entire collection. The reason is that that these connectors only come with service pack 1104.

By the way, 14-cm length is too short for the alternate model of this train.

I will add the other wire- connector assembly to the catalog in future.

I asked for evidence if you wanted to submit this request again.
https://www.bricklink.com/message.asp?ID=1338064

I gave enough evidence.

Why would TLG sell a servicepack with a 14 studs wire, if it can't be used
in any set?

This service pack was meant for trains 183 and 182. 180 was sold in UK until
the end of 1980. I think this service pack was discontinued in the end of 1980.

  It is in set 183 though.

The images of instructions of 183 and 7720 show the same length of wire (short).
7720 does indeed show a larger wire later on in the instruction, but that could
just be an instruction error.

What type of error? The smaller wire is not long enough for the alternate model.
I don't see what type of mistake could have happened.

Please provide evidence before you submit this request again.

I provided enough evidence here
https://www.bricklink.com/message.asp?ID=1338077

The wire is not visible in a sealed one.

  I would like to see images of this set with alle three different wires 28 studs
long.

My multiple boxed 7720s are stored in two boxes.
Is it necessary I take them out just to take photos of wires?
As a principle, I keep parts of boxed sets as I got them.

But I know what the three variations are.
By three, I am using my memory. There may be more than three and as I am thinking
about it, I think there are more than three. Will get back to this later.

  And please show me why the alternate model can't be build with a 14 studs
wire, so we can exclude an error in the instruction. I don't have the set
myself, but I wonder why this wire has to be put in the motor like shown in the
instruction. So help me with that please.

Hmmmm, let me see what I can do for that.

Diana

Wires are exchanged between sets in about 10-20% in average but it happened more
with older trains from 60s and 70s.

There are two problems with wire-connector assemblies:
- it is not clear what the length of these assemblies are considered to be. It
depended on the contributor. Some considered connectors as part or the assembly
and some didn't.
- The length of these assemblies were not exact in a set. Once I checked the
length of wires in 6 copies of 7722 I had. The shortest was about 2.5cm shorter
that the longest one.

In any case, the length of wire that came with 180, 181, 182 and 183 is much
shorter than those coming with 7720 and 7722.

Photos taken by legorossi. Thanks!

The box art shows a prototype motor without black "plate" under the blue motor.
That was never sold. The motor that was sold had the black motor glued under
the front-side of motor.
This explains how and why a strange 2x4 black plate was added to this inventory.

Following some discussions here
https://www.bricklink.com/message.asp?ID=1337922

I submitted this request to add as many evidence of used sets as I have access
to.
The 4 black slopes are not visible through the plastic window of a sealed copy.
This makes it impossible to find a reliable set, i.e. sealed set, to add these
to the inventory of this set.
It is though likely the turntables 3404ac01 are visible in a sealed copy.

I expect these requests to be rejected. This is the same scenario as the yellow
cones

*

https://www.bricklink.com/message.asp?ID=1065172

that were seen in many and many used sets, three of them in each, but were assumed
not reliable because the admin(s) at the time wanted to be 100% sure, which had
resulted in an incomplete/less-reliable inventory.

Based on the current inventory, BL database suggests that TLG produced in 1976
a new inverted slope, AND at the same time produced two variants of them right
from the start of production!
https://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemIn.asp?P=3660&in=S&itemYear=1976&ov=Y

https://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemIn.asp?P=3660old&in=S&itemYear=1976&ov=Y

I add over time photos of used copies that come with these two variants and obviously,
they are expected to come in the productions of 183-1 from 1976 (and not 1977).
So, the mint copy I personally bought from Australia don't come with them
because it is a production of 1977
https://www.bricklink.com/message.asp?ID=1334446

These are photos of a reliable used copy bought from the Netherlands by one of
my buyers in Europe. He generously checked all parts I requested him.
He cares a lot to get parts that are original to the set and he confirmed parts
are Pat Pend or Pat Pend scratch.
Based on the parts present in his copy, see below, they look to be original and
as I expected.
His set comes with

The black turntable is the 3404ac01 pat.pend. obscure.

Part No: 3404ac01 Name: Turntable 4 x 4 Complete, Faceted
*
3404ac01 Turntable 4 x 4 Complete, Faceted
Parts: Turntable {Black}

The production date of motor is 09.02.76 so February 9th in 1976

*
x469b (Inv) Electric, Motor 4.5V Type C 12 x 4 x 3 1/3 (Train)
Parts: Electric, Motor {Black}

The red brick 1 x 6 is clearly embossed.

Part No: 3009p01e Name: Brick 1 x 6 with Black Car Grille Pattern (Embossed Print)
*
3009p01e Brick 1 x 6 with Black Car Grille Pattern (Embossed Print)
Parts: Brick, Decorated {Red}

The white windows 1x2x1 have glass.

Part No: 27c01  Name: Window 1 x 2 x 1 with Trans-Clear Glass (27 / 27glass)
*
27c01 (Inv) Window 1 x 2 x 1 with Trans-Clear Glass (27 / 27glass)
Parts: Window {White}

The yellow windows 1x1x2 have glass.

*
29c01 (Inv) Window 1 x 1 x 2 with Trans-Clear Glass (29 / 29glass)
Parts: Window {White}

The connectors are gray:

Part No: bb0141ac14 Name: Electric, Wire 12V / 4.5V with 2 Leads, 14 Studs Long with 2 Light Gray Electric, Connector, 2-Way Male Rounded Narrow Type 1 with Cross-Cut Pins (x466c14 / bb0141c01)
*
bb0141ac14 (Inv) Electric, Wire 12V / 4.5V with 2 Leads, 14 Studs Long with 2 Light Gray Electric, Connector, 2-Way Male Rounded Narrow Type 1 with Cross-Cut Pins (x466c14 / bb0141c01)
Parts: Electric, Wire & Connector {Yellow}

The cord is black app. 42/44 studs.

I can confirm all of that. My set is unused. The year of production of the engine
is 04/01/76 (April 1, 1976).

04/01/76 means January 4th 1976.

- your set comes with gray connectors

but I know early copies come with blue connectors. One used copy on Ebay had
motor dated 03.12.75

and I got another spare lot of train parts including the stickered black battery
box of 183, blue connectors and black motor dated
26.03.76

https://www.bricklink.com/messageThread.asp?ID=267050

I don't expect the production date of motors to be sequential. TLG could
mix some from 3-4 months together and used them in a dis-ordered manner. We don't
know what exactly happened.

  I bought the set from another collector about 20 years ago. The peculiar thing
about the set are the gray rails, which are also new and unused. I still have
no idea how the gray rails got in here.

They are certainly not original to this set. The previous collector replaced
the blue ones with gray one.
They gray ones were produced since 1980, 3 years after this set was discontinued.

  The set also has the unused decals and assembly instructions, which are not shown
in the pictures.

Your set comes indeed with

Part No: 3404ac02 Name: Turntable 4 x 4 Complete, Faceted with Indented Base
*
3404ac02 Turntable 4 x 4 Complete, Faceted with Indented Base
Parts: Turntable {Black}
This is the first ever copy of 183 I find coming with this turntables.
In your copy, there are a couple of incorrect parts. I am not comfortable to
see turntable 3404ac02 being added based on just one single used copy. If it
is original to this set, we will find in future another used copy with a motor
produced about the same time.

legorossi confirmed to me, in a private message, that
- the length of wire is 34-35 cm for me, 42-44 studs.

- the two 1x2x1 white windows 27c01 have glass.

Part No: 27c01  Name: Window 1 x 2 x 1 with Trans-Clear Glass (27 / 27glass)
*
27c01 (Inv) Window 1 x 2 x 1 with Trans-Clear Glass (27 / 27glass)
Parts: Window {White}

- the four 1x1x2 yellow windows 29c01 have glass.

Part No: 29c01  Name: Window 1 x 1 x 2 with Trans-Clear Glass (29 / 29glass)
*
29c01 (Inv) Window 1 x 1 x 2 with Trans-Clear Glass (29 / 29glass)
Parts: Window {Yellow}

In the box, I see one extra blue

Part No: 3660old Name: Slope, Inverted 45 2 x 2 with Solid Round Bottom Tube
*
3660old Slope, Inverted 45 2 x 2 with Solid Round Bottom Tube
Parts: Slope, Inverted {Blue}

We see you took photos of two black

Part No: 3660old Name: Slope, Inverted 45 2 x 2 with Solid Round Bottom Tube
*
3660old Slope, Inverted 45 2 x 2 with Solid Round Bottom Tube
Parts: Slope, Inverted {Black}
There should be 4 of them under the front car.
Are there 4 of them or 6 of them in your copy?

is rare in blue because it came as alternate for those few trains from 1966.
It is ultra rare in black because it came as alternate for 116 and 119.
This motor had a very short production and that was in 1967, most likely about
the second half of 1967, and before TLG produced the printed one

Disclaimer:
When it comes to trains in 80s, I can talk in certainly.
When it comes to trains in 70s, I can talk with some confidence.
When it comes to trains in 60s, I can just talk! So I give you all I know and
what I conclude.

So far you only asked a seller of the motor in a set 100 was engraved.

I think there was another set coming with blue one in one instance. It was 112
or 113. I have to dig into my emails.
My guess is that it came with both of them.

  This was an incomplete used set, without evidence from which year it was.

Why incomplete? It is complete with original parts. Only one round 1x1 brick
was lost and replaced. The bricks are in amazing conditions.
I am angry with the seller and want to return it to Germany but the condition
of bricks are amazing and I am refrain from that decision.

  So we don't know the year this motor came and we also don't know yet
if it was an alternate.

in 1968.
We can be sure it came before this motor because I and my friend in Belgium (who
collects 118, 138, 139, 139a) have not seen it at all with 138 or other trains/sets
produced in 1968.

I'm confused about what you are saying here.

  By the way, since 1969 the motor

was also discontinued.

I bought one early-version of 116 from Germany with box and incomplete instructions
in very good condition. All parts are in amazing mint condition and they are
pat pend.
Only one part (black brick, Round 1 x 1) is not original and we can easily assume
it fell and was lost so it was replaced with

Part No: bb0007c01pb01  Name: Electric, Motor 4.5V Type A 12 x 4 x 4 (Train) with Engraved '4,5 VOLT' Pattern
*
bb0007c01pb01 Electric, Motor 4.5V Type A 12 x 4 x 4 (Train) with Engraved '4,5 VOLT' Pattern
Parts: Electric, Motor {Black}
with this set.
I don't have much hope to find this motor soon again, even as a spare part
to be sold by a seller on BL. In the last 18 months or so, only one seller in
NL had it for sale in black and I bought that one but he did not know in which
set his copy came with.
So now, I have two black bb0007c01pb01.

Photos to be followed.

Since I noticed the existence of

Part No: bb0007c01pb01  Name: Electric, Motor 4.5V Type A 12 x 4 x 4 (Train) with Engraved '4,5 VOLT' Pattern
*
bb0007c01pb01 Electric, Motor 4.5V Type A 12 x 4 x 4 (Train) with Engraved '4,5 VOLT' Pattern
Parts: Electric, Motor {Blue}
in blue and black, I want to know which sets they came from and which year(s).

Like said above there's is no evidence for what you are saying (short period
1967, before the printed one, etc).

This set you bought makes it even harder to find a time period, because it has
the old

Part No: 3023old Name: Plate 1 x 2 with Flat Bottom Pin
*
3023old Plate 1 x 2 with Flat Bottom Pin
Parts: Plate {Light Gray}
it has the later version battery box

Part No: bb0045c02  Name: Electric 4.5V Battery Box 6 x 11 x 3 Type II for 1-Prong & 2-Prong Connectors
*
bb0045c02 (Inv) Electric 4.5V Battery Box 6 x 11 x 3 Type II for 1-Prong & 2-Prong Connectors
Parts: Electric, Battery Box {Black}
and a motor that you say is from 1967 ONLY, but you wanted to add it also to

Set No: 119 Name: Super Train Set
*
119-1 (Inv) Super Train Set
394 Parts, 1968
Sets: Train: 4.5V

My guess for the time-line
1966-78

Part No: bb0007c01  Name: Electric, Motor 4.5V Type A 12 x 4 x 4 (Train)
*
bb0007c01 Electric, Motor 4.5V Type A 12 x 4 x 4 (Train)
Parts: Electric, Motor

1968

Part No: bb0007c01pb02  Name: Electric, Motor 4.5V Type A 12 x 4 x 4 (Train) with White '4,5 V.' Pattern
*
bb0007c01pb02 Electric, Motor 4.5V Type A 12 x 4 x 4 (Train) with White '4,5 V.' Pattern
Parts: Electric, Motor

Since 1969

Part No: bb0006  Name: Electric, Motor 4.5V Type B 12 x 4 x 3 1/3 (Train)
*
bb0006 (Inv) Electric, Motor 4.5V Type B 12 x 4 x 3 1/3 (Train)
Parts: Electric, Motor

So we should find out if

Part No: bb0007c01pb01  Name: Electric, Motor 4.5V Type A 12 x 4 x 4 (Train) with Engraved '4,5 VOLT' Pattern
*
bb0007c01pb01 Electric, Motor 4.5V Type A 12 x 4 x 4 (Train) with Engraved '4,5 VOLT' Pattern
Parts: Electric, Motor
was produced for a short period in 1967 or 1968.

Concerning the parts that come with my 116:
*1*

Part No: 737bc01 Name: Plate, Modified 2 x 4 with Train Coupler Open with Hook
*
737bc01 (Inv) Plate, Modified 2 x 4 with Train Coupler Open with Hook
Parts: Plate, Modified
and

Part No: 737 Name: Plate, Modified 2 x 4 with Train Coupler Closed for Hook
*
737 Plate, Modified 2 x 4 with Train Coupler Closed for Hook
Parts: Plate, Modified
that were produced between 1966-67.
Maybe they had already produced some boxes so they kept using these Train Coupler
that were left-over in 1968 too.

*2*
The battery box is, as far as we know, from 1968

Part No: bb0045c02  Name: Electric 4.5V Battery Box 6 x 11 x 3 Type II for 1-Prong & 2-Prong Connectors
*
bb0045c02 (Inv) Electric 4.5V Battery Box 6 x 11 x 3 Type II for 1-Prong & 2-Prong Connectors
Parts: Electric, Battery Box

*3*
The red

Part No: 3023  Name: Plate 1 x 2
*
3023 Plate 1 x 2
Parts: Plate {Red}
comes with my copy but all copies of 118 that we have seen so far come with

Part No: 3023old Name: Plate 1 x 2 with Flat Bottom Pin
*
3023old Plate 1 x 2 with Flat Bottom Pin
Parts: Plate {Red}
What does this say?

*4*
I don't know about time-line of Trans-Clear Bricks 1 x 2 (with or without
inner tube)

*5*
I didn't want to talk about the connectors at this point. But here we go:
All blue and red connectors

Part No: 996ac01 Name: Electric, Connector, 1-Way Male Rounded with Hollow Pin (Banana Plug)
*
996ac01 Electric, Connector, 1-Way Male Rounded with Hollow Pin (Banana Plug)
Parts: Electric, Wire & Connector
that we had seen have Hollow Pin (with 156-1, 157-2, 118-1, 139A). These connectors
were discontinued in the end of 1968. But my friend Johan in Belgium (wannes.)
bought two boxed copies of 113 form USA (sold since 1968 there) and noticed that
the connectors have Cross-Cut Pin.

Part No: 996bc01 Name: Electric, Connector, 1-Way Male Rounded with Cross-Cut Pin (Banana Plug)
*
996bc01 Electric, Connector, 1-Way Male Rounded with Cross-Cut Pin (Banana Plug)
Parts: Electric, Wire & Connector
This resolved the puzzle as how

Part No: 996bc01 Name: Electric, Connector, 1-Way Male Rounded with Cross-Cut Pin (Banana Plug)
*
996bc01 Electric, Connector, 1-Way Male Rounded with Cross-Cut Pin (Banana Plug)
Parts: Electric, Wire & Connector
even exists but was strange too. I noticed that all sets in USA and Canada from
1968-70 came with

Part No: 996bc01 Name: Electric, Connector, 1-Way Male Rounded with Cross-Cut Pin (Banana Plug)
*
996bc01 Electric, Connector, 1-Way Male Rounded with Cross-Cut Pin (Banana Plug)
Parts: Electric, Wire & Connector
(so wait for upcoming inventory change requests) and therefore, I assumed that
996bc01 cannot be found in Europe. But my 116 now comes with

Part No: 996bc01 Name: Electric, Connector, 1-Way Male Rounded with Cross-Cut Pin (Banana Plug)
*
996bc01 Electric, Connector, 1-Way Male Rounded with Cross-Cut Pin (Banana Plug)
Parts: Electric, Wire & Connector
and I bought mine from Germany from a seller on Ebay.

For the last few years, I have asked almost all sellers of 116 and 119 to check
the motor. I was hoping to find the black

Part No: bb0007c01  Name: Electric, Motor 4.5V Type A 12 x 4 x 4 (Train)
*
bb0007c01 Electric, Motor 4.5V Type A 12 x 4 x 4 (Train)
Parts: Electric, Motor {Black}
with 116. I only found it once but could not buy the set.

As what should be in the regular section: it is clear for 116

Part No: bb0007c01  Name: Electric, Motor 4.5V Type A 12 x 4 x 4 (Train)
*
bb0007c01 Electric, Motor 4.5V Type A 12 x 4 x 4 (Train)
Parts: Electric, Motor {Black}
because it is the earliest variant as shown on the instructions and it came with
trains from 1966 too.

As for 119, I found a collectors in Germany who has bought many copies of all
vintage trains from USA, Canada, UK,.... over the last few years and now selling
them on Ebay. He told me one copy of 119 that he bought from UK come wtih
[p=bb0007c02,11]
I could not get more information.

Again, I think

Part No: bb0007c01  Name: Electric, Motor 4.5V Type A 12 x 4 x 4 (Train)
*
bb0007c01 Electric, Motor 4.5V Type A 12 x 4 x 4 (Train)
Parts: Electric, Motor {Black}
should be in the regular section because this is the most common early version.
The other motor is very rare and does not make sense if we put it in the regular
section.
I think it fits as "minor variant"
https://www.bricklink.com/help.asp?helpID=1562#alternateItems

  Would you please be so kind to add an image with both black bb0007c01pb01 you
have side by side?

Sure, soon.

  And let me know from which year you think your set came, based
on the parts that are in it. It didn't have a catalogue.

Based on the parts and what I know about them, I have no idea and I don't
have a guess!
The best course of action is to find more copies of 116 wit early variations
of parts but I don't think we will find this motor again any time soon.

  I really want to
know which motor came first, second, third.

Sets: Train: 12V

Comments from Submitter:
Two versions of instructions exist. The only difference is these connectors.

At this moment the inventory looks very clear with all these alternates and perfect
note. I think when these wires would be changed to MID99, the inventory would
no longer be easy to understand.

If there is indeed a different instruction, it might have come together with
one of these interference-free rail changes, which are not reflected in the instructions,
but in the separate leaflet. New Instruction ánd New Leaflet?

Leaflet for the interference-free rail was included in a sealed bag with interference-free
rail and was added in 1986. It has nothing to do with instructions.

Thank you for your info. In that case it doesn't have anything to do with
the instructions indeed.

That would make the inventory with alternate parts even more complicated.

I didn't find different instructions though. I checked 6 of them online and
they all are 120419 with copyright 1985. They all show the regular wire. Could
you please provide a link to this other instruction, or add images showing the
pages concerned and Instruction number and year.

I will discuss the MID change request with the team after the images are added.
Or even better, a link which can show us the complete instruction.

Thanks,
Diana

The same change for the alternate model, showing the other connectors.

https://www.bricklink.com/message.asp?ID=1092284

Thanks.

Do you happen to have one or more of these sets yourself

Yes, many. Why?
Only instructions changed to show the new type of connectors.

  and do you know if the
boxes (art) changed?

The box did not change.
Note; there are three variations of boxes for all trains sold in 80s, depending
on the country in which it was sold. The only difference is the text on the right
side of the box art. 7745 comes in 3 variations.

https://forum.brickset.com/discussion/17761/lego-set-box-variations-for-eu-uk-aus-usa-can-and-why-some-are-worth-more-than-others

7722 in 5 variations...

It is ultra rare in black because it came as alternate for 116 and 119.

I bought one early-version of 116 from Germany with box and incomplete instructions
in very good condition. All parts are in amazing mint condition and they are
pat pend.
Only one part (black brick, Round 1 x 1) is not original and we can easily assume
it fell and was lost so it was replaced with

402 Parts, 3 Minifigures, 1980
Sets: Train: 4.5V

* Delete 1 Part bb0081c14 Light Gray Electric, Wire 12V / 4.5V with 2 Leads, 14 Studs Long with 2 Light Gray Electric, Connector, 2-Way Male Squared Narrow Long without Center Post (x466c14 / bb0081c01) (match ID 1)

* Add 1 Part 765c28 Light Gray Electric, Wire 12V / 4.5V with 2 Leads, 28 Studs (22cm) Long with 4 Light Gray Electric, Connector, 1-Way Male Squared (Alternate) (match ID 1)

* Change 1 Part Light Gray 2776c28 Electric, Wire 12V / 4.5V with 2 Leads, 28 Studs (22cm) Long with 2 Light Gray Electric, Connector, 2-Way Male Squared Narrow Short (Alternate) {match ID 4 to 99}
* Change 1 Part Light Gray 765c28 Electric, Wire 12V / 4.5V with 2 Leads, 28 Studs (22cm) Long with 4 Light Gray Electric, Connector, 1-Way Male Squared {match ID 4 to 99}

This is the same scenario as the yellow
cones

Part No: 3943a  Name: Cone 4 x 4 x 2 without Axle Hole

that were seen in many and many used sets, three of them in each, but were assumed
not reliable because the admin(s) at the time wanted to be 100% sure, which had
resulted in an incomplete/less-reliable inventory.

The white windows 1x2x1 have glass.

That 'wise' man was you.

Wrong interpretation. We should distinguish
1) a vintage set has in its inventory part XXa but having checked many used
sets and timeline, it looks the set always came with the other variant XXb. But
since my request is not supported by a set from a new set, it is not accepted.
Yet, there is no proof that the set came with XXa neither but the tendency here
is to assume the inventory is correct as it is and to reject any change request
if it is not 100% reliable.
This has happened a lot for my requests in the past few years, but the most recent
one is the yellow cones for 8865 (which was finally accepted but in anycase,
this is the type of change request I am talking about)

2) a vintage set has in its inventory part XXa but I submit a request o add XXb
as alternate with a reliable source, such as a new set. The set should come with
both parts, XXb as alternate. However, in this case, there is a tendency to remove
XXa from the inventory of that set because there is no evidence for it.
This is what happened it.

  And I removed the item there was no proof of in this request.
Like I said, in certain cases this is the correct thing to do.

Finding one new set, and one used set does not prove that 183 never came with

Part No: 3404ac01 Name: Turntable 4 x 4 Complete, Faceted
*
3404ac01 Turntable 4 x 4 Complete, Faceted
Parts: Turntable
Nothing checked about 3404ac01, not even a short discussion. They were directly
removed without any evidence.

Now, the inventory is badly wrong. Having checked many copies of this set for
the last few year, I have no doubt about this. Again, I bet over 80% of copies
of this set come with 3404ac01 so people will find a different part in the inventory
that what they have in hand.

On top of that, there are many pieces in this set for which there is no proof,
i.e. no photo of a sealed copy showing they were included. If I submit an inventory
change request for them, would you accept the requests and remove them?

2) the inventory requests to remove them are indeed incorrect and no evidence
(in any shape of form) were given to be removed. However the superpower given
to admins can lead to these mistakes. Here are more examples I have in my mind

https://www.bricklink.com/messageThread.asp?ID=280125

https://www.bricklink.com/message.asp?ID=1207368

By removing correct parts from inventory for vintage sets, you make them absolutely
impossible to be corrected one day, specially if those parts appeared in the
first-year-production or even first few months of production of the set.

Since I was the one that added these to the inventory, I'm also the only
one who knows were this change request was based on. With the experience I have
now (12 years later), I know this was not based on hard evidence.

But this does not mean the inventory was wrong.

3) The evidence to include

Part No: 3660 Name: Slope, Inverted 45 2 x 2 with Flat Bottom Pin
*
3660 Slope, Inverted 45 2 x 2 with Flat Bottom Pin
Parts: Slope, Inverted {Black}
is one single used set. The box of this used set misses inner cardboard and lid.
It was not bought new but you got it second hand and who knows, maybe you are
the third, forth,... owner.
There are multiple reasons I find this request insufficiently good to be accepted
as evidence.

Like I said, all parts were in a perfect condition and all was still assembled.
No reason to believe slopes were switched. I have reason to believe I disassembled
the loco for the very first time, because of the state the parts were in. But
I'm repeating myself.

I am not sure here but based on checking many 4.5v trains from 70s, I don't
trust the motor is original. I have just checked the parts of another copy with
original parts, a production of 1976 like yours, but it came with slopes 3660old
and 3404ac01.
It is possible some 4.5v motors were mixed so you motor ended up coming with
a set whose parts were produced 10 months later than this motor.
If yours come with all its original parts, then we will find another copy with
similar parts with a motor produced about the same time than yours. That makes
is reliable.
For this set, this is not necessary. The set comes with slopes 3660old and 3404ac01
and if some used copies with these parts can be accepted, it is not hard to find
this.

  I disassembled the whole loco, just to look at the date for the motor, because
you asked me. I also asked you before to check the inverted slopes in your set,
but I got no reply.

i) if we accept the motor and parts are original, this is NOT a very early release
of the set. The following is an early release which comes with wires with blue
connectors:

https://www.bricklink.com/messageThread.asp?ID=267050

ii) Based on checking over 30 used copies of this set, I seriously doubt the
motor is original to this set.
I expect all copies from 1976 of this set come with
[3660old,11]
and

Part No: 3404ac01 Name: Turntable 4 x 4 Complete, Faceted
*
3404ac01 Turntable 4 x 4 Complete, Faceted
Parts: Turntable

Indeed,I first thought the turntable 3403c01 could have come in late productions
of this set based on the timeline of this part vs. the other but I even had a
hard time to find photos of a used copy coming with

Part No: 3403c01  Name: Turntable 4 x 4 Square Base with (Same Color) Top (3403 / 3404)
*
3403c01 (Inv) Turntable 4 x 4 Square Base with (Same Color) Top (3403 / 3404)
Parts: Turntable
and found out about 80-90% of copies come with 3403c01 and only 10-20% come with
3403c01. (I bought my mint copy later)
By removing 3403c01 from this set, you make 80-90% of copies of this set to be
coming with an incorrect part, based on an un-wise statement of this so-called
wise person!

The part

Part No: 3660old Name: Slope, Inverted 45 2 x 2 with Solid Round Bottom Tube
*
3660old Slope, Inverted 45 2 x 2 with Solid Round Bottom Tube
Parts: Slope, Inverted

was released in 1976 and no, no, no, the part

Part No: 3660 Name: Slope, Inverted 45 2 x 2 with Flat Bottom Pin
*
3660 Slope, Inverted 45 2 x 2 with Flat Bottom Pin
Parts: Slope, Inverted
was produced in 1977 for first time. There has been NO proof that 3660 in any
color was found in a set produced in 1976. (produced in 1976 and not released
in 1976)

It is possible that the motor is original but was mixed with a barrel of motors
in a warehouse and appeared in this copy that was indeed produced and packed
for sale in 1977. For example, I found out that about half used copies produced
in 1976 come with

Part No: 27c01  Name: Window 1 x 2 x 1 with Trans-Clear Glass (27 / 27glass)
*
27c01 (Inv) Window 1 x 2 x 1 with Trans-Clear Glass (27 / 27glass)
Parts: Window {White}
and the other half come with

Part No: 27  Name: Window 1 x 2 x 1
*
27 Window 1 x 2 x 1
Parts: Window {White}

but as I checked many used copies, this is very unlikely. It is very likely the
motor is not original, it could be from 182 or 107. We have even seen an MISB
copy of a 12v set whose motor was not original. See

https://www.bricklink.com/message.asp?ID=1076865

* I see some double standards here. One single used copy is considered
as a proof to remove this part

Part No: 3660old Name: Slope, Inverted 45 2 x 2 with Solid Round Bottom Tube
*
3660old Slope, Inverted 45 2 x 2 with Solid Round Bottom Tube
Parts: Slope, Inverted {Black}

The part that was produced only in 1976, that was the earliest variation of this
slope, and that it appears on the instructions (and that it is nearly impossible
to be ever checked because it was built under the front car and not visible in
any sealed copy)

Based on my mint copy, I could have submitted the request to add 3660 as alternate.
But guess why I didn't?

Because most of the time you are just checking 1 type of parts. This time it
were the windows.
https://www.bricklink.com/messageThread.asp?ID=278353
Before that the wires, etc
I never saw requests from you were you checked the whole inventory of a set.

I confirmed accuracy of few vintage sets. But I don't have enough sources
and desire to buy vintage sets in sealed condition, just to check the whole inventory.
I only check parts that came in variations and these parts cannot be added by
buying one sealed copy because there is no guarantee that new copy would come
with the alternate parts that I want to be added to inventory.

  And even when I asked you about the slopes, you didn't give me an answer.

For now, I am paid zero dollars per month for what I am doing for bricklink.
Based on that, I may prefer to do other things sometime, that are more important.
My copy is from 1977 and it came with 3660.
I sold another sued copy few weeks ago and I think it came with 3660old. Not
sure if the buyer will take the time to check that and the production date of
motor.

Well, because it would be considered not a reliable copy and my request would
have been rejected.

It would not have been rejected.

So, my changes were based on a mint assembled loco of which I was the second
owner. With the remaining sticker 183 still on the original sheet. State of the
box doesn't say anything. I bought sealed boxes in a far more terrible state.

Your request below was based on road signs that were not in a sealed bag, while
other parts were. Different Road signs were shown on the box, etc.

https://www.bricklink.com/messageThread.asp?ID=317529&nID=1329199

  I recall that my request to add

Part No: 649p01b Name: Road Sign Triangle with Level Crossing Small, Thick Pattern
*
649p01b Road Sign Triangle with Level Crossing Small, Thick Pattern
Parts: Road Sign, Decorated
to 7834 was removed even if
i) there are two used copies coming with two of these parts both having bottom-tube.
ii) there is evidence that the surface print was restarted in 1981 and not in
1980.
iii) the instructions and box art shows this earlier variant.

The only different between the two change request submitted for 183 and 7834,
one accepted and the other not, is that one is submitted by an admin but the
other not. This is double standard, isn't it?

The only difference is explained above.

***
I do have more change requests to submit but my goal is to improve the inventory
and not create other mistake indirectly. If I submit something to be added as
alternate, now I see this may make a part from regular section to be removed
even if that was not my request.
So I won't submit those change requests for now.

In this case I checked my own set and admin or not. I also have the right to
add change requests. And it turned out that your mint set had exactly the same
parts as in my changes.

Again, my set is produced in 1977 (technically it might been produced late 1976,
but that does not change anything)
so we just expect to find the later variations of parts in my copy.
I get an impression that you entirely ignore the production time of a set as
a big piece of evidence for catalog requests.

All Admins are working very hard to check requests. And believe me, it's
not my hobby to reject requests.

Never thought this.

  I want the same as you: improve inventories.

That is not the issue. Indeed, you technically did not reject any of my requests.
But I checked for 4 years (actually 5 years), checked many copies, submitted
many requests for this set
https://www.bricklink.com/catalogInvChangeItem.asp?itemType=S&itemNo=183-1&viewDate=Y&viewStatus=1

and now, I am 100% sure it came with 3660old and 3404ac01. Having seen them
being removed from this set by one single click, without any discussion, I am
naturally disappointed.
I may find photos of a new copy of 183 in my older laptop, coming 3404ac01 but
photos of new sets are so hard-to-find specially if we need to find one single
part in those few photos we have.

The discussion is right here in your own post:
https://www.bricklink.com/messageThread.asp?ID=278353

At that time you didn't have proof either of these parts came in this set.

You just confirmed that if I submit to add a variant to a set as alternate with
a reliable source, you will remove the first variant from the inventory, unless
if I find a reliable source for the variant that is already in the regular section.

  Your 'mint' set had the same variants as mine (these variants are in
the inventory now).

Strange comment.
Again, and again, and again: my set is from 1977. It is NOT produced in 1976.
In whatever parts it comes with, it proves nothing about what parts the set came
with in its first year of production.

Let's not forget that the blue connectors
[p=x466c11]
appeared only in the first few weeks/months of production of this set.
https://www.bricklink.com/messageThread.asp?ID=267050

  As soon as there is proof for other variants, the parts will be added.

We want to be sure, that - IF another turntable came in early releases of this
set - that it actually was 3404c01 ór 3404c02.

If I don't submit more inventory requests for other sets to add certain parts
as alternate, you would not need to be sure for the parts that are already in
the regular section.
No question asked, therefore no answer needed.

  The only way finding out, was
to remove the turntable that was added based on instructions only.

!!??
Many parts are in the regular section that were added only based on instructions.
The only way finding out if they actually come with the set is to remove them
from the inventory. Why don't you do this?

https://www.bricklink.com/catalogInvChangeItem.asp?itemType=S&itemNo=183-1&viewDate=Y&viewStatus=1

and now, I am 100% sure it came with 3660old and 3404ac01. Having seen them
being removed from this set by one single click, without any discussion, I am
naturally disappointed.
I may find photos of a new copy of 183 in my older laptop, coming 3404ac01 but
photos of new sets are so hard-to-find specially if we need to find one single
part in those few photos we have.

  and none of these 5 boxes show the roadsigns you wanted to add:

Part No: 649p01b Name: Road Sign Triangle with Level Crossing Small, Thick Pattern
*
649p01b Road Sign Triangle with Level Crossing Small, Thick Pattern
Parts: Road Sign, Decorated {White}

I have explained the whole situation with these roadsigns multiple times. Here
they are again:

1)
I mean the set 7834 in 1980 came with
- 649p01b embossed print / tube-bottom
This set in 1981 came with
- 649p01 surface print / tube-bottom

The time-line of this road signs is something like thsi:
649p01b, embossed print, bar-bottom (1972-197X)
649p01b, embossed print, tube-bottom (197X-1980)
649p01, surface print, tube-bottom (1981-"end of production of 4539")

https://www.bricklink.com/message.asp?ID=1332036

2)
We checked photos of few NIB copies. See attached photos 1-3 of a NIB
from a
seller in France. Based on the catalog inside the box, it is a production of
1981 and it comes with

Part No: 649p01 Name: Road Sign Triangle with Level Crossing Pattern
*
649p01 Road Sign Triangle with Level Crossing Pattern
Parts: Road Sign, Decorated
This means that the earlies version probably came only in productions of 1980.
This makes it more rare for the following reason:
The set 7834-1 was released in 1980 but it was first released one year later
in UK, Italy and France. So we may only find an early released of 7834-1 in Germany,
Belgium, Netherlands, Switzerland's and Scandinavian countries.

https://www.bricklink.com/message.asp?ID=1331744

3)
The issue here is that we are not likely to see many copies of 7834 that were
produced in 1980 because these were produced only since summer or mid-summer
of 1980 until the end of 1980 and only in few countries, so we expect maybe 5-10%
copies of 7834 that are out there come with 649p01b.

https://www.bricklink.com/message.asp?ID=1332094

so the road signs came with embossed print in 1980 too.

4)
I have photos of few NIB 7834s in all of which the road signs are loose in
the
box, not in any bag. I upload them all.

Note that they are all productions of 1981 or later, based on the catalog inside
the box and/or sleepers with cable groove (produced since 1983).

You had read and understood them for sure, however you still try to make my comments
look like they are not reliable and they contradicts each other.

So again, for anybody who may read this:

The roadsigns had embossed prints until the end of 1980. Based on everything
we know, the roadsigns were with surface print since 1981 so we expect all copies
of 7834 that were produced in 1981 or later came with roadsigns with surface
prints.
I attached photos of 5 NIB copies. They all come with

Part No: 649p01 Name: Road Sign Triangle with Level Crossing Pattern
*
649p01 Road Sign Triangle with Level Crossing Pattern
Parts: Road Sign, Decorated
Because they are from 1981 or 1982 (or later).
If we find 500 NIB copies that are all produced in 1981 or later, they all come
with

Part No: 649p01 Name: Road Sign Triangle with Level Crossing Pattern
*
649p01 Road Sign Triangle with Level Crossing Pattern
Parts: Road Sign, Decorated
too. (except the transition time that could have happened early 1981 or so, so
maybe few productions in 1981 come with 649p01a with embossed prints) That would
not contradicts or proves anything about those copies of 7834 produced in 1980
because 7834 came in its first year of release (1980) with

Part No: 649p01b Name: Road Sign Triangle with Level Crossing Small, Thick Pattern
*
649p01b Road Sign Triangle with Level Crossing Small, Thick Pattern
Parts: Road Sign, Decorated

This claims are backed-up by the fact that 7 roadsigns were FIRST produced in
1980. and I have already 4 of them in my collection with embossed print.
https://www.bricklink.com/message.asp?ID=1332859

It appears you are upset and very defensive to accept you might be incorrect
to refuse this request to add 649p01a in the regular section. You claimed (and
indeed created) that the roadsigns should come in sealed bags (that CANNOT happen
and you already know this, because they never came in sealed bags in any copy
of 7834, as far as we know) yet, when I asked you to upload one single photo
of 7834 in which the roadsigns are in a sealed bag, you ignore the message and
left this comment:
and none of these 5 boxes show the roadsigns you wanted to add:

to make it look like my comments contradicts each other. But they do not as explained
in my previous posts and also above.

If you desire to make my comments look unreliable and incomplete, you should
try harder and I think you will fail anyway in this case, because this set actually
came with

Part No: 649p01b Name: Road Sign Triangle with Level Crossing Small, Thick Pattern
*
649p01b Road Sign Triangle with Level Crossing Small, Thick Pattern
Parts: Road Sign, Decorated
. I have spent few years gathering photos, checking photos of tens of copies
for all train sets from 80s and 70s (and other sets) and I naturally reply to
any comment of yours such as this one.
I find your criteria that "you accept to add 649p01a to 7834 only if you see
them in a sealed bag" strange, because you know they never came in a sealed bag
so any new 7834 that is opened would not have these roadsigns in a sealed bag
and if you did not know this, why did you write this criteria at the very first
place?
Let's not forget that about 10-20% of all productions of this set are produced
in 1980 (the rest in 1981-84).

I have more inventory change requests concerning other parts such as black

Part No: 3404ac02 Name: Turntable 4 x 4 Complete, Faceted with Indented Base
*
3404ac02 Turntable 4 x 4 Complete, Faceted with Indented Base
Parts: Turntable
but my concern is that once I submit a request to add one of them as alternate,
then

Part No: 3404ac01 Name: Turntable 4 x 4 Complete, Faceted
*
3404ac01 Turntable 4 x 4 Complete, Faceted
Parts: Turntable
may get removed from regular section or since 3404ac02 came in maybe 10% of all
productions in one set and they did not come in a sealed bag, they may get rejected
(for which you will have ways more reasons to reject than this request for 7834
as these turntables are very rare, and there is certainly a huge lack of evidence).

Do you have a photo of a new 7834 in which road signs are included in a sealed

This is the fifth NIB copy (from 1982) in which the road signs are not visible
but they are not inside the two sealed bags.

  I should not have to guess how much sales tax is going to be added to the refund.
If I enter that I would like to refund a buyer $5 the system should automatically
work out the sales tax refunded. I know it's possible; it works with Stripe.

  So why do I have to play a guessing game about how much the total refund is when
I'm refunding through PayPal?

Instead of guessing game, you can do some math and for that, you only need to
try one amount.
On your first screen, you enterred $5 but the portion of refund for buyer was
$4.67
The question is how much you should refund so that the portion of refund for
buyer becomes $5.

In more rigorous mathematics:

5 --- 4.67
X --- 5

or in other words

5 / X = 4.67 / 5

So

X = (5 * 5) / 4.67 = 5.35331905782 which is about $5.35

Checked with my NIB copy and also one used copy with box. Note that the instructions had a mistake in early release of this set. In my case, my two copies come with early and corrected later copy. So I get two different copies which is good for this request.
P.S. The used copy came with three of them.
I don't recall if I combine this used copy with another incomplete copy but the three of them are embossed anyway.

Can you please provide proof from your NIB copy, together with 3010p04?

Already added photos many months ago for another inventory change request.

  Hi all,

Anyone who is using ShipStation may have noticed the new option to pre-pay duties
into Canada from the U.S. for $6.95.

Here is my question: At what price point does this make sense?

Many of the packages I ship to Canada tend to be under the $50 price range. What
are the import duties % and what are their price points?

Would you, as Canadian buyers, find this helpful?

Would love some feedback on this from you guys.

Ginny
Wild Bricks

As Emporiosa, don't!

Confirming what he said with some more details:
1) shipmets sent by USPS will be handled by CanadaPost. The handling fees of
CanadaPost is $9.95 CAD = about $8 USD.
Most parcels containing toys don't get charged import fees (duties), specially
mailers, small parcels, low-value parcels. I have had parcels of value 400-500
Euro with no charge.

2) Personally, if I know you precharge duties, I make sure I won't order
from you!
The same goes with Ebay global shipping program.

3) If a parcel is shipped with UPS, Fedex,... these couriers will charge import
fees for sure with some $10 ( or more outrageous charges like $40 or above
that) but in that case, Canadians have right to self-account the package and
pay directly to government without these handling/processing fees.

4) The charges in province BC and other provinces are 12%. Resellers like me
are exempt from paying 7% PST and only need to pay 5% GST. So if I get charged
in advance, I have to prepare documents and send them to government to get a
refund.
For example, I don't know how I can get proof of import payment from Ebay.
This is obviously extra work.

The source of this inventory is unknown.
Inventory date is March 4, 2006.
After the inventory was submitted the following parts were added to the catalog.

Part No: 3404ac02 Name: Turntable 4 x 4 Complete, Faceted with Indented Base

*
3009p01e Brick 1 x 6 with Black Car Grille Pattern (Embossed Print)
Parts: Brick, Decorated {Red}
added Jan 14, 2011

Part No: bb0072 Name: String Reel Winch 4 x 4 x 2 with Sloped Top, Metal Handle, Black Drum and Crane Arm
*
bb0072 String Reel Winch 4 x 4 x 2 with Sloped Top, Metal Handle, Black Drum and Crane Arm
Parts: String Reel / Winch {Red}
added Nov 7, 2008

Part No: bb0073 Name: String Reel Winch 4 x 4 x 2 with Sloped Top, Metal Handle, Red Drum and Crane Arm
*
bb0073 String Reel Winch 4 x 4 x 2 with Sloped Top, Metal Handle, Red Drum and Crane Arm
Parts: String Reel / Winch {Red}
added Nov 7, 2008

Part No: bb0072c01 Name: String Reel Winch 4 x 4 x 2 with Sloped Top, Metal Handle, Black Drum and Crane Arm Complete with String and Crane Hook Right
*
bb0072c01 (Inv) String Reel Winch 4 x 4 x 2 with Sloped Top, Metal Handle, Black Drum and Crane Arm Complete with String and Crane Hook Right
Parts: String Reel / Winch {Red}
was added to the catalog Apr 20, 2002 and was added to the inventory of all sets
that include bb0072 or bb0073. The black string probably caused that no one noticed
the color of the drum. So far there is no evidence at all, that these reel winches
came assembled in any other set then

Set No: 183 Name: Complete Train Set with Motor and Signal
*
183-1 (Inv) Complete Train Set with Motor and Signal
183 Parts, 1976
Sets: Train: 4.5V
Part assemblies should be included in the Regular Items section of set inventories
only when the assemblies in question come pre-assembled in the set box. One of
the exceptions is when an item is pre-assembled for the purpose of box display.
Which definately is the case here.

Part No: bb0072 Name: String Reel Winch 4 x 4 x 2 with Sloped Top, Metal Handle, Black Drum and Crane Arm
*
bb0072 String Reel Winch 4 x 4 x 2 with Sloped Top, Metal Handle, Black Drum and Crane Arm
Parts: String Reel / Winch {Red}
There’s no evidence so far that this part ever came in this set with black drum.
The change to red drum was probably made before this set was produced in 1973/1974
(based on evidence of other sets)

Part No: 3404ac01 Name: Turntable 4 x 4 Complete, Faceted
*
3404ac01 Turntable 4 x 4 Complete, Faceted
Parts: Turntable {Black}
Although Instruction and box show a 3404xxxx turntable, so far there’s no evidence
one of these variants came in this set.
There’s no evidence either for

Part No: 3009p01 Name: Brick 1 x 6 with Black Car Grille Pattern
*
3009p01 Brick 1 x 6 with Black Car Grille Pattern
Parts: Brick, Decorated {Red}

Part No: 3660old Name: Slope, Inverted 45 2 x 2 with Solid Round Bottom Tube
*
3660old Slope, Inverted 45 2 x 2 with Solid Round Bottom Tube
Parts: Slope, Inverted {Black}
My set was not sealed, but complete and with excellent parts from the correct
period (combination of Pip Side, Pat Pend Obscured and Pip Stud, without Part-id).
I have no reason to believe that any of these parts were replaced. I disassembled
the loco just for checking the production date of the motor (01.07.76), when
I noticed all parts were in as new condition.

Part No: 3660 Name: Slope, Inverted 45 2 x 2 with Flat Bottom Pin
*
3660 Slope, Inverted 45 2 x 2 with Flat Bottom Pin
Parts: Slope, Inverted {Black}
is the older variant of 3660 with ‘thick wall tubes’.

Part No: 3403c01  Name: Turntable 4 x 4 Square Base with (Same Color) Top (3403 / 3404)
*
3403c01 (Inv) Turntable 4 x 4 Square Base with (Same Color) Top (3403 / 3404)
Parts: Turntable {Black}
also found in a sealed set.

what is your evidence that this set did never come with

Part No: 3404ac02 Name: Turntable 4 x 4 Complete, Faceted with Indented Base
*
3404ac02 Turntable 4 x 4 Complete, Faceted with Indented Base
Parts: Turntable {Black}
In particular, I did request to keep this as regular.

What is your evidence that this set did never come with

Part No: 3660old Name: Slope, Inverted 45 2 x 2 with Solid Round Bottom Tube
*
3660old Slope, Inverted 45 2 x 2 with Solid Round Bottom Tube
Parts: Slope, Inverted {Black}

A wise man once said:

"There is a tendency to accept the parts already in the inventory to be correct,
without any evidence.
I think we need some evidence to include this part.
Until then, it should not be included."

I think you were absolutely right about that in certain cases.
This is one of them.

Diana

1) Calling somebody wise does not make his statements correct.
In this case, I find his statement not wise.

3) The evidence to include

Part No: 3660 Name: Slope, Inverted 45 2 x 2 with Flat Bottom Pin
*
3660 Slope, Inverted 45 2 x 2 with Flat Bottom Pin
Parts: Slope, Inverted {Black}
is one single used set. The box of this used set misses inner cardboard and lid.
It was not bought new but you got it second hand and who knows, maybe you are
the third, forth,... owner.
There are multiple reasons I find this request insufficiently good to be accepted
as evidence.

i) if we accept the motor and parts are original, this is NOT a very early release

Parts: Window {White}
and the other half come with

Part No: 27  Name: Window 1 x 2 x 1
*
27 Window 1 x 2 x 1
Parts: Window {White}

but as I checked many used copies, this is very unlikely. It is very likely the
motor is not original, it could be from 182 or 107. We have even seen an MISB
copy of a 12v set whose motor was not original. See

https://www.bricklink.com/message.asp?ID=1076865

* I see some double standards here. One single used copy is considered
as a proof to remove this part

Part No: 3660old Name: Slope, Inverted 45 2 x 2 with Solid Round Bottom Tube
*
3660old Slope, Inverted 45 2 x 2 with Solid Round Bottom Tube
Parts: Slope, Inverted {Black}

Well, because it would be considered not a reliable copy and my request would
have been rejected.

***
I do have more change requests to submit but my goal is to improve the inventory
and not create other mistake indirectly. If I submit something to be added as
alternate, now I see this may make a part from regular section to be removed
even if that was not my request.
So I won't submit those change requests for now.

There should be three 3069bp01 inside each 4345a making the total 6.

Thannks Paul for checking that.
