Hello! I am currently placing an order with one of the coolest store owners I've
come across, and he let me pay layaway for about 2 weeks when it hit me:
Why isn't there a layaway option? Obviously, this can benefit the seller,
and the lower-income buyers together, but before I continue, Let me explain
the concept of layaway:

Layaway is an option where you pay weekly, biweekly or monthly a set amount (agreed
on by both parties: buyer and seller) until the item is paid off.

For the seller, this means once the price is agreed on/the first payment is made,
they have to put the item aside (regardless on other buyers' offers after
an agreement is made between the first two parties)

For the buyer: This means the once the price is agreed on, you stick to the price
and stay faithful to the deal 'till the end. This also means communicating
with the seller for anything that should be noted such as change of payment account,
or change of address, etc. Missing your payment by one day could void the whole
transaction leaving the buyer at the mercy of the seller.

Both parties should remain as transparent as possible for the smoothest possible
transaction.

Due to people filing chargebacks on other people, it would be fair to give refund
permissions ONLY to the seller. This way, if the buyer breeches the contract,
or simply wants their money back, the seller could then decide if a refund is
warranted.

It's like a regular BL order, except its just broken up over time.

What do you guys think?

Please show sellers whether or not they are currently eligible and showing up
as a highlighted store. Also, please be more specific in the description as to
how sellers are eligible or not, and maybe reduce the 6 month ban if they close
their store. Many reputable sellers close their stores from time to time, or
even daily, 6 months is a long time not to be eligible, just because they closed
their store for a day or two.

Thank you for considering this,

Darren

I often check both the set value and part out value of a set before parting it
out. Why can't "Part Out Value" also show the average sales value of the
set as a whole too?

For some time now we have had considerable difficulty in reconciling the fees
statement to our accounts system. The fees are always paid - there is no problem
there, but the fact that it is a summary rather than detail and the conversion
rates may or may not be different it makes it a job rather than just a quick
check.

We would like to see each store given the option to receive either the summary
or a detailed breakdown. The detailed breakdown should include each order the
store is being charged for the date and value of that order and the calculated
fee + currency conversion rate.

Those of us who do not deal in dollars would like that information available.
Those who don't require it can remain with the summary.

If the fees program is within the code for Bricklink, this should not be a complicated
change as it has all the info already. If it is in another system that would
have to be looked at but even today's most simple billing programs allow
for this type of information to be presented.

Hi, buyer saw an item in my store and is sending a list of what he needs. I have
20,000+ parts to work through and it would be useful to allow him to view my
stockroom via a bypass password like you can allow access if your store is closed,
worth considering as an enhancement

It would be nice if sellers could set a minimum order amount for domestic and
another for international.

Having to pay 4% to Paypal on money that goes to the USPS makes it a tough call
on accepting international orders.

I've been debating with myself on what to do with international and I think
having a separate minimum for domestic and international would help me figure
out a solution.

Maybe it would help others too.

I suggest that BrickLink remove all links to LUGNET from catalog pages.

http://www.bricklink.com/message.asp?ID=920504

I just tried to use the LUGNET website and it does not appear to be functional
anymore.

background: Buyers will, in many/most cases, shun used parts because there is
no formal method of sellers telling buyers what to expect. Buyers will always
turn to New parts, unless the supply of New parts is constrained, or the cost
of New parts is significantly above the cost of Used parts.

suggestion: Give sellers the ability to apply a simple 4-level rating system
to help buyers better distinguish what they will be receiving. The 4 levels are:

Like New - barely distinguishable, or indistinguishable, from New parts.

Average - Average playware, The usual scratches, and very minor nicks along sharp
edges.

Worn - Wear levels that include, but not limited to, ABC, heavily worn from years
(or generations) of playware.

Unrated - Parts which do not qualify as New, but the seller has not rated them
in one of the above 3 levels.

Thank You

Whenever I place an order, I print it out w/the checkboxes so I can confirm the
contents when it arrives. The old format didn't have a page background, so
printing them with "background images on" would include the headers I wanted
but includes the toner-killing DBG now...

Before the upgrade, 'Seller Refuses Service' was displayed very clearly
when you entered a store. Now you can fill your cart only to find out when looking
at your cart that you cannot actually shop in a store.

Please make the "Seller Refuses Service" status more clear and as soon as possible!

This one has been around a long time and unfortunately nothing seems to be happening
with it.

Bricklink needs to change the way the login/accounts function works. As a medium
sized store with an owner and 3 employees we need to allow the employees to log
into Bricklink and update store inventory, prices etc almost every day and as
things currently stand they have to use the owners login details (Poor security).
SQL, which is used for the database has quite a good security system built in
so even if we went native with that, it would be better than the current situation.

The same thing applies for stores with multiple locations - we have two processing
centres - one where all of our Lego inventory is stored, picked etc and one where
orders are packed and shipped from. Hence we want to set up a shipping from address
and a shipping to address. The fact that not all stores support the alternate
address system on Bricklink, as it currently stands means the only real way to
do this is using alternates on Paypal (for those that use Paypal).

So in summary - multiple logins to the stores with security/control permissions
and a minimum of 2 address for each store - one for ship from and 1 for ship
to.

As an afterthought it might not be a bad idea to allow store owners to have two
accounts - one for buying and one for selling, with the appropriate feedback
associated with each function. This might make a difference as to how people
look at a situation - In our case we have over 800 buying feedback and over 2000
selling feedbacks.

I would like the file option to be available on all my 'orders placed'
regardless of the current order status.

I have had a couple of orders that I have placed where the seller has shipped
me the items, but for reasons unknown has left the status as either 'paid'
or 'packed'.

The seller is either not responding to my messages to update the status or doesnt
want to change the status and thus I am unable to file my order, until the status
is changed completed. I am unable to change the status while it is Paid or packed
the seller has complete control.

Many thanks

Sales are typically slower in the spring/summer months(May, June, July ).

I found a statistics link which gives data through 2014. Are there plans to
update the numbers? Additionally, is it possible to show trending sets (what's
hot and what's not )?

Thx. Jill

On the feedback page we now have a part which says how many cancelled orders
a seller has

The problem is, I look at that as a buyer and assume the seller cancelled it
and that makes me wobble a bit about buying.

Of course different people will see this number in different ways and alot of
folks wont even consider it at all.

So, I received an order and a couple of days later receive this email

"Thank you but I have sourced the parts from another seller with a different
order but he had stated at first he had none but it was I that was putting in
the wrong colour sorry to of wasted your time"

Fair enough, new user, small order, more than happy to cancel, its good customer
service

But, now, because of my willingness to be helpful I have this statistic on my
profile that suggests I cancel more than 5% of my orders and that makes me look
bad as a seller, my suggestion is simple:

Please consider either:
changing the cancellations counter so that it does not include circumstances
where the order has been cancelled by and OCR initiated by the buyer
OR (almost as good)
Seperate buyer and seller initiated cancellations so that buyers can make a more
educated choice as to whether a seller with lots of cancellations is providing
good customer service or is unreliable at fulfilling orders

Would like to see the Bricklink messaging system offer options for plain Text,

required or needed.

I am not even certain I think this is a good idea, but I had this thought.

Suppose Bricklink required that one pass a simple test, before being able to
sell on Bricklink.

The test would require that one be able to use the catalog, to verify the part
and color that they are offering for sale.

Such things as the length in dots (or diameter in case of something like a rubber
band) could be done with pictures (like showing something that is 5 lego dots
long, next to a Lego plate, aligned so one can see how many dots long it is,
and having them select the correct length from multiple choices).
Or maybe include some pictures of pieces in some colors that are close, but different
enough to easily identify.

Or maybe a better idea is to present sellers with a verification popup, when
listing certain part/color combinations.
- Anytime a color is listed, that is no longer in production, a popup asking
the seller to verify the color, and telling them the color has not been produced
since (year), would avoid some errors.

- Anytime it is a part/color combination, that is not one that is known to have
been in any set, a verification popup would be useful.

Suggestion: Ask the community for feedback before implementing any new features
or creating new partnerships. It seems obvious that the BL admins are out of
touch with what direction the community would like to see BL go, so this would
be a great way to prevent asinine decisions.

One thing that I think would be helpful on Bricklink is if there was a pop-up
warning whenever you try to leave a page that has been modified. I have seen
this on other sites, and it is easy for me to enter quantities for items I want
and then forget to add them to the cart before going to the next page. I'm
not sure if this is possible or practical with the current infrastucture, but
I think it would be useful.

Hello,

It would sure help out a LOT if in the "download orders" list, you could separate
out the "Item Description" to be 3 separate columns: Type (brick, plate, tile,
slope, etc), Description (1x3, round, etc.), and Color, rather than it all combined.
This would make it MUCH easier to pivot by item number, type, color, etc.

Thanks!

Jeff

I would like to see a permanent Topic like CL's Best of Craig's list
Topic

They've got a couple running right now that would surely be nominated for
the Best of list.

or failing that, the ability to do a mash-up so we could end up with combinedthreads
like:

Hello everybody, I'm an italian seller and I think that should be useful
for me and for other italian seller to make an automatic shipping suggestion
for Poste Italiane, the italian postal service. I would be happy to help Bricklink
staff if they want to add this feature!
What do you think about this suggestion?

Best regards,
Filippo.

@Bricklink:

Change the address fields so the BL-subscriber can/must fill in his/her address
in the right format AND in the right order.
(the BL-subscriber is the onliest person in the world who knows his/her address
the best.)

Nico

as a seller i have too make too much changes in buyers addresses
(a waste of time)
if an address is wrong/not in the right format there are more chances for delivery
mistakes

Please remove Latvian Lats (LVL) from list of currencies. Latvian official currency
is EUR as of 2014.01.01. Using LVL as default currency for IPs from Latvia is
annoying.

In the previous version, when I visited my own it didn't count as a visitor.
In the new version my own visit does count as a visitor. I hope this change was
not done intentionally and can be changed back.

Under the new design, there are no set numbers visible when in the shopping cart.
That's a huge problem.

You can't even mouse-over something and get a pop-up that includes the set
number. So once something's in my cart, I've no way of checking it against
my database to make sure I want it.

I know, nitpicking and it won't get implemented anyway...

Still here comes my suggestion: Please change this link: "Pay Your Fees Now!"
into something more friendly like: "please pay your fees now"

I feel like a non paying user every start of the month

Hello,

I hope someone from the Bricklink team reads me.
Here is my suggestion: why not expand Bricklink towards Playmobil products?
While the AFOP community isn't quite as vibrant as the AFOL community, there
are many adult fans of Playmobil out there (including me) who have been sharing
and buying/selling for years now on different internet forums. We even have our
own sets/parts database at playmodb.org
But this community lacks a global and well-organized marketplace like Bricklink.
So why not expand? It would be a bit of work from the Bricklink team's part,
but adapting Bricklink's framework to Playmobil products should be doable,
especially if you use the playmodb database which would spare you quite some
trouble. And it ultimately would mean more money for you.
I'd very much like you to consider this project. If playmolink or klicklink
or whatever its name was ever created, I'd certainly be the first to set
up shop and do publicity on your behalf to the AFOP community.
Thank you for your attention and have a nice day

Improvements to the invoicing capabilities from within Bricklink. When the development
team are evaluating the things they wish to include in their next release e.g.
tools for the stores, inventory management etc, please do not ignore the invoice.
We need the ability to include graphics (e.g. store logo) and provide the ability
to use attachments as well as design our own. Almost all modern systems allow
for this.

It is a marketing tool and needs to be used as such - not what we currently have.

It looks like the payment method is set default to PayPal.
There's no option for the seller to change this.
This will cause at least more domestic orders with PayPal as payment method.
I'm sure most sellers (and even buyers) are not happy with this.

I would prefer to be able to choose the default payment method myself(as a seller).
Just like the shipping methods, default for
- all buyers
- domestic buyers
- international buyers

Or even better, for both shipping method ánd payment method:
- all
- domestic
- EU
- International outside EU

But this is asked for many times already during the past years.
Since Bricklink does make the difference between EU and non-EU with VAT, it
also
should be possible for these methods.

As long as it is not possible for a seller to choose the default payment method
for at least domestic and international buyers, I would prefer Bricklink to
remove
this default for all buyers.

Please provide the ability to exclude orders which are not indicating payment
(including those in NPB or NSS) from the Price Guide. These orders allow a relatively
simple way to manipulate the PG numbers, and do not reflect real sales.

thanks

I am aware that this has been suggested many times before by various people and
unfortunately nothing has ever been done about it but perhaps now is the time
to bring it back up.

When a new used comes to Bricklink they are faced with lots of hurdles - they
will not recognise the Bricklink part numbering system; and in lots of cases
the colours as many of them have totally different names.

The Lego stores also call colours differently e.g. Dark Blue to them is their
standard blue brick and if you ask for Earth Blue - they often look at you with
a puzzled look, even though that is an official Lego Colour name. The same with
Green etc.

So, with that in mind could the Bricklink developers not come up with a better
idea than the current colour chart for the catalogue. Perhaps similar to the
very old and outdated Peeron one.

It would help the new buyers - and after all we give them the option to key in
the number at the back of the Lego instructions to find a part (and little do
they know by using that number they get the part in the correct colour).

Bricklink want to encourage new buyers and as a store we want that as well -
but let us give them the tools do make it easier for them not more complicated.

Please implement standard deviation.

By eliminating the (small number)% cheapest and (small number) % most expensively
priced lots, the average price index would be "more statistically significant"
in scientific terms ( less error margin ).
This is only necessary for items that have at least e.g. 10 distinct lots for
sale.

Why this suggestion ?

Yesterday i noticed one particular seller set all his prices at ( BL avg x 10000
). This caused average price index "lots for sale" to be inflated at least
tenfold
.
Someone else suggested he made a mistake in currency.
If this one shopkeeper persists, unwanted "extreme" inflation may occur on several
very common items, and those lots - for sellers not paying attention when adding
to their inventory - might become impossible to sell.

Hello,

Can someone explain me why are feedback allowed for cancelled orders?

Example: I have a buyer, who bought hundreds of euro of stuff from me. After
7 days you can start a NPB. After 14 days you can cancel the order if you are
lucky that they do not reply. If they reply, it needs 21 days to cancel the order.

If you cancel the order BEFORE 21 days, they can leave a negative feedback.
If you cancel the order after those 21 days, they cannot leave a negative feedback.

So I usually wait 21 days (or 14 if I am lucky).

Thus, people can block hundreds of euro worth of lego from your store for 21
days. Yes, they will have a penalty, but it's however a big loss for a seller.

I believe that it would be more useful if no feedback for cancelled order was
allowed.

Please if I am not correct help me to be corrected.

When a part is listed with color (not applicable), the sample image is white.
When listing white parts, this can cause confusion because they wouldn't
come up in a search for white and the error is hard to detect. When the parts
are actually some other color, the confusion is more obvious.
Perhaps the Not Applicable image could be a line drawing or otherwise altered.

The catalog is littered with parts that have very likely been uploaded under
the wrong color. Look at 4495 for example, I would guess that 6 of those colors
with lots under them are just listed incorrectly (bright pink, dark blue-violet,
dark purple, Maersk blue, pink, rust).

Part No: 4495 Name: Flag 4 x 1 Wave Undetermined (Undetermined Type)
*
4495 Flag 4 x 1 Wave Undetermined (Undetermined Type)
Parts: Flag
Marked for Deletion

This shouldn't happen when parting out new sets, but when listing used parts,
it seems some sellers don't check against current listings or against the
"known colors" data for the part they are listing, and they end up picking whatever
they want.

I would like to suggest that a control mechanism be put in place to help address
this. Maybe if a seller is adding a part to their store that is not a known color,
there can be a popup saying "this is not a known color for this part - are you
sure?". Maybe the pop-up can contain a list of the known colors to choose from.
If the seller is confident they have a "new" color, they can click "this part
is not a known color" to proceed with the listing.

Ideally, this would flag the entry with a tag that can be used in searches and
wanted list notifications. I would love to pick a part and ask to be notified
when one is listed in a "new color", or to be able to search within categories
for parts in new colors.

As it is now the built in message system is near useless to keep customer contacts
with.

And messages I send to customers through my regular mail client wont show up
on the order, witch is a downside.

So what if all users got a pop3 enabled mail-box with "username@bricklink.com"?

Me as a seller could simply add the bricklink messaging to my mail-client, and
any communication with the buyer through that channel would show on the order.

What do the rest of you think?

This is just a random suggestion that I think would be cool. It would be nice
if we could costumize the minifigs on the predefined images like to be holding
mugs or being able to change the torsos.

Hello everbody,

not sure if this is a bug or not, but for me it looks like it is not possible
to upload a store logo with transparency. That seems strange, because BL even
requests it to be a png-file. The standard logo has a transparent background,
but whatever I do, my store logo won't show with transparency.

Thanks!

Hi,
It would be nice and useful to see a small flag matching the
country between "date" and "buyer" in the "feedback" tab.
Is this something possible?
Thanks

I've been thinking, I really think Bricklink should come up with an app (for
android and apple, obviously).
Personally, I find it very difficult to use any website on a browser on my tablet,
and a smaller screened smartphone would be no better. As such, I rarely ever
use bricklink on my tablet, just because it is so difficult. I know there is
the "mobile site", but I'm figuring that's just the same desktop site,
enhanced for mobile devices (am I wrong? Please correct if I am). I Don't
find it's better at all. It still has the upper "tabs" (Shop, community,
my BL, etc, etc) which on desktop requires a hover to use, most of the time.
On my tablet, I'm constantly using the "normal" version and using "use desktop
version", which really isn't any different or any better.

Anyway, consider other major sites (facebook, ebay, amazon, amazon seller, paypal,
gmail, how many others am I not including?) that one can visit on a browser OR
an app. All those aren't just 5% different versions of the same desktop site,
they are designed ground up for tablets/phones. I think bricklink could do very
well to come up with one. I KNOW I'd use it all the time. Heck, I've
even be willing to pay the typical .99 for it.

Has there been talk of an app in the past that I've missed, or is my idea
totally, 100% new?

Respectfully recommend an auto-ban of any user that requests a seller lie on
customs forms based on a specific criteria (e.g., 5 unique seller complaints
for the same username). Note this in the buyer guide/help context (against the
rules, fraud, account will be auto-banned).

Worse, some buyers are punishing sellers by leaving negative feedback when they
are merely being good, fair-minded citizens that are following federal regulations
and complying with the LAW.

My understanding is that this is not the first time this has been requested.
Seems to me this could be a field appended to the existing database that is populated
by admins based on seller complaints as a regulatory-minded service to the seller
community.

Hi all,

New sellers are supposed to offer only “PayPal with Purchase Protection,”
or to be first vetted by BrickLink administration. ( http://www.bricklink.com/help.asp?helpID=2440
)

I’d suggest that the “not vetted” status of new sellers be made clearly visible,
so that buyers (especially unexperienced ones) would know to only use PayPal
with them (even if the seller has a “my Paypal is borken” excuse).

This idea first came as a “badge” showing vetted/non-vetted status but I don’t
think a tiny logo/link beside their username would do.
Maybe a more prominent information box (splash?) in their store would be more
useful.

That information would be shown until the store has “enough credit history” to
be able to use other payment methods (as the “vetted” sellers).

Thoughts?

I apologize if I missed a Stud.io-specific forum, but I thought this topic may
apply here. Stud.io is great, and while others who are more talented builders
than I may have other, more universally relevant concerns, here are two requests
I have:

1. Please segregate wheels and tires. I'd like to use bare wheels as engines,
for example.

2. Please allow bricks that would fit in the center of studs IRL to be able to
do so. For example, a tap in the middle of a 2x2 plate.

Thank you!

Hi,

I have been repeatedly resetting the exact same settings for more than half a
year now -- countless times.

And over the last couple of hours, I've had to reset my settings under the
same (expletive) tab, in the same shop, during the same uninterrupted session.

I fail to understand why this problem, among others, is a non-priority for BrickLink
administrators.

Enjoy endlessly resetting your settings ... as applicable, Matthew

Well known problem
http://www.bricklink.com/message.asp?ID=983078

solution
* If some item(s) get removed/sold/etc generate an automatic Item Removal Request
(IRR), stating what has happened. At the same time, give the buyer a singe click
solution to cancel the quote request all together, in case the missing item poses
an issue.

OR
* just create an action item for both buyer and seller, leave it for them to
solve it but DO NOT auto-cancel the whole thing. Make is so the invoicing is
impossible if the item(s) were not removed from the quote via IRR (I guess it
would require to create an item removal request process from a QUOTE)

OR
AUTO-CANCEL the quote, but give the buyer a single-click solution to place the
same quote request again, where the missing items are excluded.

OR
* whatever else.. just do it quick, please. Whatever it will be, please keep
in mind that new buyers often use the quote-request thing without having a slightest
clue what it's for. Whatever will happen after *items are now missing form
the quote request*, MAKE SURE that it is, first and foremost, new-user friendly.

How about some safe buying advice on the loging page warning buyers of common
scams? I.E, brand new store with a massive inventory, lots of orders with no
feedback, prices too good to be true on rare, valuable and sought after items.

I believe that if Bricklink will allow new sellers to set up a shop ONLY AFTER
THEY HAVE COMPLETED 10 successful transactions as buyers- the scams by 0 feedback
sellers (that pop everyday) will stop by a high margin.

The beauty of this is that they can't start multiple new seller accounts
to prop up their buying feedbacks too.

I think this will work...

Hi everybody,

Would it be possible to keep Bricklink 2.0 compatible or able to work with the
program Brickstore. I find it very useful to be able to download my orders. Sice
they get purged after 6 month, it is the only way to keep them forever.

Thank you for reading.

Best regards,

Olivier
