Some strange changes were made to this set.
Set originally inventoried with "a" type then in 2010 "a" type changed to "b"
type in regular section. In 2012 "a" type return but as an alternate. Finally
in 2013 in regular section "b" type changed to "a" but "a" left in alternate
So now we have "a" in both regular and alternate section.
Unfortunately, any discussion about these changes remain.
And here we go again, this mess have to be straighten
Can somebody shed some light on this matter?
Marek

It seems the change was already made but here is further evidence, if it helps.
I've attached a photo of the 1995 instructions I came across that shows the
valid part. Let me know if you need anything else. Thanks.

Valid point, however I am a real person who just started inventorying classic
80s and 90s sets and came across this issue. I have the original instructions
booklet from a 1995 set that shows the valid part.

| When adding an item to my wanted list, I typically want it in 5 colors. As it
is, I have to add the item in each color or select 'no-applicable' which
means when I check a store I get a rainbow of the item which slows my search.
When I add an item it should just let me select boxes for the desired colors.

Based on the way Storm-chaser treats this type of cases, you should ONLY accept
any of these variations if there is an evidence: sealed set or an owner who has
kept the set with original parts.
All my inventories supported with any other type of evidence (including instructions)
have been rejected.
I don't think it is correct to have various procedures depending on which
admin check the request.
|
Our system on BrickLink is based on the reliability of the username.
|
Could we please rephrase that to:
"The system on BrickLink is evidence based. When in doubt the judgement can be
based on the reliability of the username."
I think that is what you mean to say. The way it was written could be interpreted
with a completely different meaning.
|
Before there is evidence, there must be a reliable deliverer of that evidence.
In any court of law, testimonies are given about the nature of the evidence as
to where and when it was found. If the testimonies can't be believed, than
neither can the evidence.
That having been said, it is very helpful and important that contributors document
their presentations as thoroughly as possible. So I'm not saying evidence
is not necessary. But the BrickLink catalog relies principally on a large group
of contributors who have built up their reputation on the site to the point where
their submissions can be trusted.
|
Any new user can submit new information to the catalog. If there is enough evidence,
the submission is accepted. At that time, the contributor does not have a reputation
yet. The submission is a first step in building that.
Our large group of contributors have gained their reputation of being reliable
because they have shown consistent and careful evidence-based work. That reputation
has to be based on something more than just a large number of catalog change
requests.
|
Of course, new users have to start somewhere, and we extend to each one a certain
token amount of goodwill. And their work gets checked extra carefully.

|
Yes you did (but you were reluctant to do so). But I am not following everything
here:
You wrote many times that inconsistency of catalog cannot be a reason to add
a variant of a part and this would not be considered as evidence. Should we distinguish
the regular and alternate (later variant)? For what reason?
I can give many instances in which you didn't accept to add a variant because
a similar set released on the same years came also with that variant (and I do
agree that this is not enough at all. But I will continue the other "probabilistic
discussion soon...")

The user signed up 6 months ago.
The proposed change is a simple part version change.
The change request only became complicated because of the change history which

A seller is allowed to change their prices whenever they like before an order
is placed. You contacting them probably alerted them to see that their price
was rather low. Is what they did ethical? No. Is it allowed? Yes.
Their new price is still quite cheap anyway - they are still cheapest in Europe
for new by about 5 Euro. You can now decide to buy from them or buy from someone
else.

Perhaps someone who has some insight into this matter will be willing to share
their knowledge?
This part only comes in one set (with part 57878 Train Wheel RC Train listed
as a counterpart):
This part comes in 70 sets and two parts:
Are they the same part with duplicate catalog entries? This is what I suspect.
|
Part 2879 is only in the inventory for set 9764-1. Brickset has that set listed
with part 57878 in the inventory.

| Dear Admins,
I want to share one of my first experiences as a new bricklink member I had to
suffer. There is no response on my complaint (there is no even proper category
for this) so I'm desperate to seek justice.
I was searching for set 60051 and I found a great deal as you can see in the
first image.
I wanted to buy one, but seeing the price I decided to go for both. Unfortunately
shop size policy stopped me from ordering so I contacted the seller (I've
seen replicas on eBay, and that time I was not sure if they can be sold here):

Hello,
I am interested in your High Speed trains. They are real LEGO, aren't they?
If
so, I am thinking to buy both of them, but the shipping cost can be an issue.
I wonder how much it is to 4400 Nyiregyhaza Hungary? I also wonder if it would
be better to take the sealed small packages our ofthe paper box and re-package
them? I don't need the box nor the instructions, if you find it reasonable
I'm
more than happy to leave them with you in exchange for this favor.
What do you say?
Cheers:
Tamas"
The response was that he raised the price but no reply. I am sad to see he managed
to sell one in the meantime...
I submitted a complaint but no response there. I am both upset and angry there
is no way this is allowed on any selling site...
Many thanks:
Tamas

| this is again another way to help:
See
https://worldbricks.com/en/catalog-year/1990/catalogs-1995.html
The reviewer doesn't say if he opened a new one but this copy is so neat
coming with everything, like the clear inner tray and catalog of 1995. The catalog
shows that this copy was from 1995 and we can see in the images 4265a.
My guess is that in the early releases, 4265a was used but it is likely that
in the following year, it got replaced by 4265b.

| Hygrotus, this is also one way to help, isn't it?
From my personal collection. The last set I got as a kid. My brother promised
to buy a Lego for me at some point and bought this after few years! It was bought
sometime about 1993 but there is no way we can know at what year my copy was
released.
I remember I got 5 of 4265a from this set and these were all 4265a I had. Unfortunately
one of 4265a were already smashed (broken) in the sealed box! That was disappointing
but I had forgiven TLG since this set was supposed to come with 3 of them and
by the way, I had still 4 (one extra).

Yes if the name or number of part is changed there is also log with that changes.
Those two parts don't have any.

I would still like to see some evidence and have that evidence preserved for
those who examine this change in the future. I've looked at several scans

photos.
Just to be clear: I don't have any doubt that you know what you're talking
about. I'd just like to see changes to these older sets thoroughly documented.
