Set No: 40512 Name: Fun and Funky VIP Add On Pack polybag

40512-1 (Inv) Fun and Funky VIP Add On Pack polybag
148 Parts, 2021
Sets: LEGO Brand

Could anyone confirm whether this catalog addition means this will become a "regular"
set to buy? Or perhaps something one could buy with VIP points?

I seem to remember these were "tested" in the UK not long ago but since then
I haven't heard any news on these, hence my surprise seeing it pop up in
our BL catalog.

From what I know nothing has changed in regards to the availability of this set
(and the following VIP "Add On" sets). So it is still a test product only available
to selected VIP members in the UK. But it does exist and many are for sale on
Ebay, so there is no reason why it should not have an entry on BL.

Erikk

They have been doing the trials in the UK but no word yet whether this one or
others will be more widespread.

Even if it remains as a UK only trial, it is a valid LEGO product (like any regional
item such as bricktober or comic con) so not surprising it is in the catalogue.

That's like asking for a City wave without a helicopter or a Harry Potter
set without Harry, Ron or Hermione! Madness!

Tip: you don't have to buy all sets. If you don't like them, don't
buy them.

There will never be a downloadable version in the Gallery: official sets are
not downloadable for copyright reasons.

I want to build it myself
but the pieces are not available to import, studio doesn't even recognize
the set as a valid number yet. How soon will it likely be available? I understand
it was just released today but having a palette would be extremely useful.

The inventory will be downloadable when a member submits it, because the catalogue
is made by member

For those interested in this item, it sold recently on the usual auction site
in Australia for $4017 AUD. 185064296213

That is far more than I was willing to pay !

If you’re asking if all four were sold under a different set number I do not
know. This helps explain why I have so many extra minifigs from this era.

I know I had 6803, 6823 and 6842, but that last one doesn’t look familiar at
all. I distinctly remember 6823 because it was the first time I’d gotten that
“box”, the swivel and those “lunar tires”. For 8-year-old me this was a huge
advancement over the older sets I had which were mostly red, blue, yellow and
white 2x4 bricks.

it's an extra torso piece that seems like it would have made a great extra
in "9". Any worth to this even for salvage torso parts?

Presumably the Friends Apartment? If so, it is not an extra.

Nope! It's from the Cheers set.

Kidding, yes, you have it correct. I scanned through the manual and did not
see this but I see it in other photos. This explains the extra heads too.

If you know this set; what the heck are Ross and Rachel holding? I looked at
the manuals but I can't tell what white parts they are using.

Coffee cup and I guess some sort of jar.

If you use the part out function it will tell you what parts in the set are regular
parts, what belong in minifigs and anything that is down as an extra.

Mega has had the license for some time, so I'd guess that the workshop has
been content with it for the most part.

But have a little patience. LEGO's business model often seems to be "wait

TMNT

Disney Cars

Interesting. Thanks.

However, your argument for "a little patience" is moot, as Sesame Workshop has
already started to dip their toe into deeper waters, namely Lego. Incidentally,
the gist of my statement too "might've taken the wrong route"

It'll be interesting to see how it unfolds. Mega has only ever released
Sesame Street stuff for the youngest target audience, so I'd guess that they
never held the license for minifig-scale stuff. They used to sell a number of
Disney Princess sets in that larger scale, too, even when LEGO had its own license.

And of course Mega still carried the license for Sony's Spider-Man films,
even after losing the MCU license.

It's a weird and cyclical and overlapping and redundant world sometimes!

Is Sesame Street popular with adults and older children?

The one Sesame Street set is not intended for little kids. It is intended for
grownup who loved Sesame Street when they were little.

It doesn't look like a set a small child can build, even those who are ready
for regular LEGO. Really I just want the characters in DUPLO scale, as I would
build the street myself.

As others have said, LEGO has never had the license. It could be that they do
now and are making plans. Or it could be that they only got limited license
for an adult collectible.

Dora the Explorer is another one where MEGA first had the license and then LEGO
got it. I have sets from both.
The MEGA set came with some really cool track pieces, that line up really well
with the LEGO DUPLO brick runner track pieces, which align well with regular
DUPLO bricks.

You have these Duplo-like Mega Bloks sets so there's likely a licensing issue:

Thanks. Makes a little more sense now.

Me thinks though, that SW (Sesame Workshop) might've taken the wrong route
to the Building Toy market

Mega has had the license for some time, so I'd guess that the workshop has
been content with it for the most part.

But have a little patience. LEGO's business model often seems to be "wait
until another construction toy secures the license, then swoop once the deal
expires but after it's proven in the marketplace."

LotR
Minions
Disney Cars
PotC
