Sadly the second one, I am guessing it will only add roughly $5 to the figure,
so if anyoen wants will take $20 for it.

Thanks, NG

Hello,

I recently have found a Boba Fett with no helmet printing, I was wondering if
anyone knew how rare this is, or had any appraisals, I am also open to any and
all offers. Anyone have any advice? The helmet is just a plain mandatorily helmet
with absolutely no printing, similar to the one in the new mandatorily forge.

Thanks, NG

Yes. I have several sealed DACTA sets listed for sale and they sell very slowly.
Dacta sets aren't really "sets" but a selection of parts for a classroom
setting.

I hesitated on parting these out because they are old and rare but it looks like
I will have to do so eventually.

In Price Guide, yorbrick writes:

Although the part out value is high, the collectable value is much harder to
decide / get for this type of Dacta set as they are much less sought after than
sealed "regular" sets of the same period and size. Having a high value in terms
of parts will only get that value if someone happens to want all the parts in
the set (as parts) or wants to have that set as a set and is willing to pay a
premium.

A lot of the value depends on which colours of specific parts you have in your
version. If you get red ones of these:

Part No: 3456 Name: Plate 6 x 14
*
3456 Plate 6 x 14
Parts: Plate
you are in luck when it comes to the parts value. But you are out of luck if
you get the DBG ones. You can repeat that with quite a few parts in this set.

Although the part out value is high, the collectable value is much harder to

Thank you for all the very useful information . Since the set is sealed I don't
know if I should open it to check the parts. It is though just a cardboard box
so do you think it will devalue it if I open it?

Yes, it will devalue it if opened (as it will limit the audience even further,
as sealed box collectors won't want it, even if the box is a bit boring).
This is the real issue with this type of set where there are many variants inside
that vary massively in price. They are "Schrodinger sets", where you don't
know what you've got until you open them and by opening them you no longer
have a sealed example.

It might be best to aim high for the sealed set, then if it doesn't sell
after six months or a year, you can always open it and sell the parts as new,
hoping you get the rarer parts.

I wouldn't surprise me if you do end up selling it as parts. It is always
a shame to do that with an old sealed set but sometimes the only viable route
if the set does not sell. I cannot say I have ever met a sealed box Dacta collector.
But know plenty of people (myself included) that have sealed boxes of more normal
themes from early 2000s or before. I guess there must be collectors out there,
it is just a case of finding them.

At least you know the value of the parts you might get if you want to gamble
with the contents.

Given, that the partout value is around EUR 800. I'd say maybe EUR 1000 ?

Dunno if this is an appealing set for collectors

My question is, am I truly paying what I see in my order / invoice? Why would

Any help is appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Presumably VAT. It is showing what the price would have been if local (Norway)
VAT had been paid.

I’m trying to find out an average price for assorted Bionicle parts. They don’t
belong to any particular sets, they’re just extras we bought our son over the
years and he’s ready to move them on. He’s bagged them up and they weigh about
750g per bag (rough estimate). The parts include some masks, joints and general
bits and pieces.

All of the bags are this size and contain roughly the same amount of pieces.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Like others have said it varies wildly. Masks do well and parts that get lost
easily, projectile discs etc.
One thing I would suggest is you double check ball joint sockets as these crack
very easily and it can be quite hard to spot.

Going through and photographing some sets to sell I noticed this shield has a
printing mistake, the yellow outline was misaligned.

Was or is this a common variation during that time, or a super rare one off mistake?

Is do not think I see valuable parts in this bag.
Most of the time Bionicle parts are not valuable but, for instance, special colored
mask can be worth quite some money.

If I would get $12 for a bag like I yours I would be jumping up and down in joy.
(Reading the other answer).
I think it is less valuable unless there is something nice in it (that I do not
see or recognize).

Bionicle part values can vary, wildly.
Just like "normal" Lego, it's all about the part and color version.
While this might not answer your question, it's difficult to say "$12 a bag"
etc.
Good luck!

Its still this same

I trye to log out and stay log on, its all time same (USD price)

The price guide currency is the same as your store currency, and for buyer accounts
it is always USD. So you have to upgrade your account to be able to change it.

No, I - as a buyer only - see prices in EUR.
Both being logged in and not being logged in.

I believe you are right in that when you do have a shop, you can only see the
currency configured for your shop.

thank you all for help me with this case.
now i have to wait for my first order and positive comment for upgrade acc to

The price guide currency is the same as your store currency, and for buyer accounts
it is always USD. So you have to upgrade your account to be able to change it.

My Price guide is in EURO and I'm no seller.

Sorry I should have been more clear about this.

Yes, as a buyer you can change the currency for the normal price guide, but not
for the part out feature (and I think the question here was about that option
- see attached images).

No, I - as a buyer only - see prices in EUR.
Both being logged in and not being logged in.

I believe you are right in that when you do have a shop, you can only see the
currency configured for your shop.

Do any UK sellers know if you can bulk adjust stock in Brickstore to reflect
the UK 6th month ave. I've got it close but think it is still pulling in
the global 6th month average.
Thanks

The other useful thing after doing that is to use the "group by currency" on
the price guide page. That allows you to split GBP transactions from USD, EUR,
and all other currencies. This gives you a good idea of what items sold for in
the UK, as most GBP transactions will be from UK sellers. It's not perfect,
but at least gives some idea about regional prices.

Thanks for the info. Do you have any idea where would be a good place to try
and sell it? I’m not in a massive rush so happy to wait for the right buyer to
come along.

I think you'd have to sell it as used, as there is not really proof that
it is new if it has been opened, even though the stickers have not been applied.
There is another one in the UK for sale here at £270 with stickers applied. I
reckon you could stick it on ebay as an auction starting at probably £350 and
see where it goes from there, mentioning it is opened but parts look immaculate
and the sticker sheet is unused. I'd list it as used but say it looks like
new in the description. You'll have an issue that if you list as new as the
condition and someone gets it and complains that it has been opened. You might
get away with starting at £500 but a lower start price is likely to get people
interested.

Alternatively you could put a higher price as a buy it now and allow offers and
see if you get any.

But demand might not be there at a high price, given the part out value is quite
low (someone wanting the parts (without stickers) to build the set could buy
them for about £50). The only one that has sold here in six months was (likely)
from a Hungarian seller. You need to find a collector that will appreciate and
more importantly pay for the unused sticker sheet, box and instructions. There
are people that will, if you can find them!

The price guide suck in my opinion. How do you use it to value a set with defects
or was the AVG price had all defected sets and yours was not? Look at the current
listings.

Price guide is like the Argus for automobile.

It doesn't mean ANYTHING but it's very helpful.

Hoping it helps - even if I doubt it does

The prices are insanely high and it will break the purpose of the avg prices.

Lot ID: 288191095 Item No: 4195-1
Price:
US $64,990.00

Please investigate.

Thanks.

I never used the average price function. I pulled up what was listed and priced
accordingly. Price depended on whether I wanted to be the lowest price and sell
quickly or somewhere in the middle if I wanted to reply on my reputionation and
feedback and no rush to sell.

100 items are sold for $1.00
1 item is sold for $100.00
Mean or Average = $1.98, which is 200% of the expected and actual meaningful
average.
Let's say I use this for setting my selling price. I will be the most expensive
one on BrickLink (except for the $100.00 one of course), but I will believe I'm
offering at the average price, thinking I offer at a competitive price.

It is obviously fake data, such wide variations in sold data are highly unlikely.
Especially as these are sold prices, they are meaningful. That someone paid $100
presumably means it was a genuine sale. Of course we don't know what was
correct, was it a seller pricing high and getting a buyer willing to pay 100x
too much (unlikely), or was it a seller error, listing 100 at $1 instead of 1
at $100. The latter would likely be snapped up instantly.

This made up data shows one thing though - know what you sell. If you had a $100
item and someone else messed up and listed it as 100 at $1, would you blindly
follow their error price because that is what the biased average is, or would
you check sales data? Either way the $1 or $2 average should seem way off if
you understood the value of the item.

You won't be the only one selling at that price. Why would you be the only
person on bricklink that uses the average sold price? If you are, they should
remove the ability to populate with price guide data, as it is not being used
by any other seller. More likely, many other people will be listing at the same
average.

As I mentioned before, the correct way for it's intended purpose would
be to exclude the lowest and highest 10% of the prices. This would filter out
the extremes (both downwards and upwards). A new calculated variable "Avg. Price
Percentile (10th-90th)" could be introduced.

Why exclude the extreme 10%, what is correct about that? Why not 2%, 5%, 16.67%
or 49%?
The intended purpose is to report the mean, which is what it does.

I don't agree. The mathematical value is indeed the mean (I think, English
is not my native language). However, I do think the intended purpose was not
to give the mean, but to give an indication to both buyer and seller what a realistic,
average price is for which an item has been sold and is on sale now. I can't
be sure, I wasn't there when it was discussed. As long as extremes are in
that equation, the meaning behind that value has lost its purpose.

Do note I didn't say to change the value of the "Average" variable. It should
remain the mathematical correct one. But instead introduce a new one ("X Percentile
Average", or what you want to call) that actually has a better meaning to it's
value. When you ask what's correct about that: it is an statistically correct
and commonly used way to filter out extreme values polluting the meaning or trend
value. It's also referred to as "removing outliers".
https://www.statology.org/remove-outliers/
https://statisticsbyjim.com/basics/remove-outliers/

On the exact percentage: could be 1%, 2%, 10%. Or it could be filter out the
bottom 3 and top 3 values. Whatever would be decided (I'm not statisticus),
it would give me a better meaning to some of the values.

None of that is better, just different. There is usually a very important thing
if you remove data from any analysis because you believe it doesn't fit -
you report what you remove and why, and still report the true mean before you
bias it by removing data.
Filtering out things like the bottom and top three results is not a good idea.
For items where many sales are made, it makes little to no difference.

I understand you will never even consider this, but for me the average value
has no purpose this way, as I can't use it for deciding if an offered price
is actually competitive or not. Without of course checking item per item, by
manual effort.

Where
only a few sales are made, it can have a huge effect. For example, if 10 sales
are made, you throw away 60% of your data. If just 7, you are taking the median.
For six or fewer sales, you throw away all the data.

Why 60% is thrown away? As I said, the exact formula should be well thought.
I could be top/bottom 10%, so for 10 sales only 20% is thrown away. And even
then, it shouldn't always be that case, but only for situation where there
is a very large deviation at the bottom and top prices.

Of course the algorithm needs to be a bit more intelligent/smart, as to decide
when to drop which outliers. Again, I'm not a statisticus, but I'm sure
there are intelligent formulas that cover these problems to deliver actual usable
data.

Let's say an item is sold 10 times for 1.00 dollar but once for 10 dollars.
The current (mathematical correct) average would be 9.90$ (9x 1.00$ + 1x 10.00$
= 99.00$ / 10 items).

Better would be to exclude the extremes, which would result in an average of
1.00$ as the sale for 10.00$ is omitted.

Your calculation is wrong. 9x1 + 10 = 19, not 99. The average would be $1.90.

Yes you could exclude the high value, but why is that better? You have excluded
useful data. Those 9 $1 sales could all be from the same seller that undervalued
the item, or purposely manipulated the price with fake sales.

There's two lists on the price guide, "sold" items and "for sale" items.
So while these listing don't mess up the "sold" average, they greatly change
the "for sale" average (though I don't ever look at that anyways).

For items that aren't sold that much (and have a larger number of items in
the "for sale" as in the "sold" category), you often need to rely on the "for
sale" average price.
And even for the "sold" values, they sometimes include extremely low or high
values. That's of course fine, but it makes the mathematical average useless
when it's being used to base your own price upon.

I agree with your position of excluding outliers from the calculation, but the
engineer in my is going to drive me mad until I correct that math.

in that example, 10$ for one item + $10 for another ten at a buck a piece = $20/11,
for an average of $1.81.

Where
only a few sales are made, it can have a huge effect. For example, if 10 sales
are made, you throw away 60% of your data. If just 7, you are taking the median.
For six or fewer sales, you throw away all the data.

Why not 2%, 5%, 16.67%
or 49%?

Correct.

The price guide only takes into account sold sets, and as nobody in their right

If you look at all of their sets the prices are crazy high.

I was the kid who quit ballet because it interfered with watching Scooby Doo,
but not even I would pay $12k U.S. for one of the sets.

Hi all

I have found this brick in a used bulk lot. It is in good condition, only a small
flaw in the L. It seems like it could be a pretty rare piece. Anyone have an
idea of what it could sell for?

Thank you

Currently the API is only available to sellers. Is there a way to get access
without being a seller?

Hoping it helps?

Problem solved now. But thanks anyway, Sylvain. I might look into it someday.

In the meantime, I'll move this post to a more appropriate topic.

When I say quick, I mean I just clicked on the "Price" link and a pop up window
opened instantly, showing the Price Guide for that part. Then I closed the window
and adjusted my price. This was a 2 seconds procedure. I used that procedure
for several colors of the same part without leaving the page. Then I submitted
all these changes in one go. Nice and fast!

Today, for an unknown reason, the same link leads to another page showing the
complete Price Guide with all items for sale. This takes a loooong time to load.
For the most common parts, it can take up to 20 seconds to load!!! Yes, I might
have an old computer. But still.
Then, I have to come back to the previous Inventory page, which can take time
to load and at the top of the said page. Then I have to scroll down to find and
adjust the right color entry. That's for one color. If I have five entries
of the same part in various colors to adjust, I must repeat that process accordingly.

This is really time consuming (x10 at least), annoying, frustrating and painful.
I know there are other ways to adjust prices, but that's the way I used to
work for years and it was so easy. I can't think of any quicker way.

Please, just bring back the small pop up window... Please?

Thaks for reading my rant.

Frédéric

Check your inventory settings (My Store Settings Management - scroll down):

Wow! I didn't know that was now an option!!
My bad I stopped reading BL forum years ago.

Thanks a lot!

from purchases in the last 5 years.

Appreciate any comments.

It makes somewhere between very little difference and significant difference
depending on the set. For common used sets, the price between a boxed used and
unboxed used can be virtually nil. Whereas for a set that is easily put together
from existing parts, the box might be very valuable if the set was limited in
numbers.

Thanks for the responses, based on your advice I might check the market to see
the relative values closer to selling.

Hello,

Personally I would say most to have a $5-$10 extra, but if it is an expensive,
rare, or vintage set, the box may include an extra $50. That is my experience
on bricklink. Also, look at the listings for sale and see if any of them have
boxes, and if you find one, list it around the same price. I am a collector who
has boxes for every single (OK, i'm missing 1 or 2) Lego set I own.

Hope this helps!

Without knowing the condition of the sold items I really dont see the point.
Why did one vintage set sell for 50 euro and another for 500?

I have two in-store shelf displays - small ones, known as Boosters, which are
a built model with the retail box behind, in a clear plastic case, not the 3ft

A friend of my partner wishes to buy them, so I'm just looking for a fair
price, passing them on to someone who will appreciate them.
One is City, the other Ninjago. Both are pristine, boxes only opened today to
take photos. They still have the protective film on, hence the slightly blurry
pictures.

The reason I have these is that I used to install them, by the hundred, to retailers.
The very last run I ever did, the retailer went bust, leaving me with these two
& nowhere to put them.

If anyone has any idea what I should ask for them, I'd be most grateful.
I'm in the UK, so appropriate pricing in £ would be helpful - otherwise any
ballpark figure & can translate for myself would be helpful.

I would say £35 for both as sets. No idea what one would charge for the display

Hi Randy,

Thanks for your input. I was thinking around that price as well, but was unsure
how others would react to that. It's good to see that I am not alone.

This set is already in the Bricklink catalog, item number 66138. There is no
price history and I haven't been able to find a single instance on the web
of this set being for sale, from there my question to the community.

Kind Regards,

Martin.

Hi Martin -

I would say you could start it at 500EUR and see if anyone bites. It is a very
lovely exclusive set, so I feel like it could be worth that. If it doesn't
sell at that price over a certain period of time that you decide upon, then lower
the price a little and wait a bit again to see if anyone buys it. Repeat this
process until it sells.

However, I am not a seller here, so some would say that I know nothing about
these subjects and should not post my opinions.

In any case, I hope my opinion can help you.

Cheers,
Randy

P.S. By the way, what is the set number on it? Is it in the BrickLink catalog?
If not, I would love to help you add it to the catalog.

Depends if you’re the end collector or trying to resell. If you want to resell,
probably $20 or less to be worth your time. If you are the end buyer and you
actually want all those specific figs, maybe $40.

You can look up each of the individual figures and use the 6-month average.

it no longer shows as pending so I guess it won't be updated anytime soon,
if ever. It's nearly a year out now.

I thought with Lego owning Brinklink these things would be done more efficiently.

is there a way to determine the part out price of a set without using the part
out section of the price guide? for example, set 71390 isn't in the part
out guide because some parts aren't in the reference catalog
