  Hello Bricklink Community !

I have a technical question regarding certain building techniques that I am unfamiliar
with, and I was wondering if someone could please help me out.

The instructions to a SW Tie Defender MOC tell me to insert a 1 x 1 plate with
thin O clip into the back of a 1 x 1 modified headlight brick (parts 4085a and
4070, respectively). I have a screenshot of the steps attached below.

I personally have never thought to use this technique, but the idea is amazing.
It lowers the top of the clip half a plate thickness relative to the top of the
headlight brick, which can yield greater detail and greater precision in elevation.

However, when I found the pieces in my own collection and replicated the build,
the clip did not initially fit into the back of the headlight. I had to flex
the clips uncomfortably far to fit them into the headlight and once inside, they
remained flexed. The possible internal stresses on the part worry me greatly
!

Does anyone have any experience with this technique? If so, what are your thoughts
on it? Is there a better alternative I can experiment with?

All your help is greatly appreciated, thank you !

Not in my opinion (whatever that is worth).
Personally, I might leave a neutral depending on the degree of rudeness (which
is very subject to opinion).
I reserve negative for cases of where I am certain I was cheated even after effort
was made to get the seller to make things right.

I have more often avoided buying from a seller due to their responses to feedback
than I have due to actual feedback.

Let me answer your subject line “Is rudeness grounds for negative feedback" by
posing another question: Is politeness grounds for positive feedback?

Let’s say after receiving two orders, you find one to be substandard albeit
with placating and very polite comms - The other, superb in respect to shipping-packaging-pricing
and product quality, but accompanied by what you consider to be “rude” comms.

What then would be the considered respective feedbacks? An even more trenchant
question to ask oneself: which of the two would you continue buying from?

Personally in looking back, I've spent the largest amount of money over the
years on BL with perhaps one of the rudest I've come across here. Just added
thoughts when pondering all things feedback…

I still think that the “feedback system” will be the last thing that e-commerce
sites end-up conquering with sound solution.

This is a particular moment I do not want to receive any feedback for a while!

I think I was kind of aware how things would turn out once I receive more feedbacks.

It is unfair and disappointing this buyer, who had ordered from me three times,
have read the store's terms but do not comply with store's terms, buy
cheap instructions, complains (politely) about their condition, and still prefers
to keep the item instead of return and receiving full refund.

As a buyer, I am either happy with item, so I leave positive feedback, or I am
not satisfied, in which case I accept to return and get a full refund.

No one needs to deal with a truly rude seller. A polite and professional manner
is a required part of customer service. So, yes, I would consider leaving negative
feedback if I was mistreated as a buyer.

Feedback given is not only a message to the seller, it is a message to the community.
I feel this is just like shopping at the local hardware store, etc. If I was
treated in a rude, unreasonable manner by a store owner, you better believe I
would tell my friends about it and suggest they avoid that store.

Very true, but given the seller does'nt care much for their own customer
service they probably don't care enough about whether their feedback remains
in good standing either so whats the point in the buyer jeopardising their own
feedback just as a means of warning others?

Until Bricklink implements a feedback system that protects buyer opinion without
the fear of retaliation then the feedback system will always remain flawed and
unfit for purpose!

My advice to the OP would be to block the store, tell the seller what you think
of their poor service and don't leave any feedback so as not to give them
the satisfaction of jeopardising your own repuation!

I would leave negative feedback and stoplist them (is that what it's called?),
just as I have with a few people on here as a result of their behaviour.

At the very least, least favourite the store and also stop list them so they
cannot buy from you.

Anything that particularly shaped your feeling about a transaction is grounds
for your feedback, but negative feedback should come with a specific comment
so other people can judge for themselves whether your experience is likely to
relate to them.

It depends ...

One viewpoint is that feedback represents the whole essence of the transaction.

More recently, I'm seeing a trend to where feedback is simply was the buyer
(or seller) happy or unhappy. That type of feedback has external influences,
above and beyond the transaction, but it creeps in.

BL is being a bit less responsive in removing undesired feedback, so take that
into consideration.

I may well receive another negative, and all because a customer is arguing about
the definition of INCOMPLETE. The feedback system here needs serious revision,
and mostly to sort out when non-positive is justified or not.

P.S Fun fact:
i) 111=3*37

ii) 111 + 777 = 1*111 + 7*111= (1+7) * 111 = 8 * 111 (so not entirely a coincidence
that 888 is also combined of one single digit "8")

I really enjoy these "snapshots in time" type parallels. Very cool!

I don't know, I think you might be onto something. By offering the bees

It's sad when people feel the need to do stuff like that with the excuse
of "doing it on someone's behalf", especially without making sure it's

Yesterday I posted a question about making a reply to a feedback. I posted a
picture of the page I was asking about and thought that I had blanked out all
of the buyer's information. I screwed up and missed 1 spot. As soon as I
realized that, I cancelled my message. The post was a question. It was NEVER,
EVER meant as a name and shame. I was having trouble finding the correct link
and just needed a bit of help.

So, to my buyer: I apologize profusely for the mistake. I honestly cannot apologize
enough. That was my mistake and it is completely on me.

Now, to the member who emailed my buyer:
***** THAT IS NOT OKAY. ******

My buyer is new to BL; which I mentioned in my message. Normally, I send a message
to the buyer explaining the feedback system and why their feedback is unwarranted
and so damaging. I have found that communication and education about BL goes
a long way. Never in my wildest imaginings would I have thought that another
seller would take it upon themselves to send such a message to my buyer. The
chastising tone of the email and the "mention" of being stop-listed by sellers
made my buyer feel threatened.

What should have been a conversation between myself and my buyer became public
in a way that I never wanted. Again, that is my mistake and I apologize.

Buyer gave negative feedback without contacting me first.

Order was under control of the postal service when this happened.
Didn't allow me to resolve issue!

Has since been :
1.repaid for total order costs!
2. Order was returned to me and I have since posted it back to Buyer!

I feel that I have been extorted due to the negative feedback!

I had at that point NO Negative feedback for being a Seller!

Not Happy!

I have put in request for negative feedback to be removed!
Apparently Rejected but not reason why!
AND No asking me why either!!

On removal of Feedback list says - the following applies:

Seller is attempting feedback extortion AND Not relevant to the order (once
with postal service, we can't do anything about it!)

Who can I message for assistance to solve this PROBLEM!

Thanks Cate

Normally there is a link to allow you to reply if you are the person the negative
was left for. What am I missing?

Looks like you are on the other member's feedback page which shows the feedback
they posted. In order to reply to feedback you must be on your own feedback page
(the one showing all the feedbacks you received).

Oh my apologies, I was thinking you're missing the link on each feedback.

I've copied the direct link and added your username in, see if this works...

What if you scroll down to the bottom and click the "reply" link I circled in

sure about negative ones though.

Fully capitalize every instance of "Lego" used on your pages to "LEGO". That

Do I Have To Pay For Insurance?

No, If you pay with Paypal you have buyer's insurance for any orders in this
store and most other stores. It is the seller's responsibility to get the
goods to you once you have paid.

A seller who understands how it works. Refreshing.

I am slightly biased as I have been the lucky recipient of multiple orders from
Jason.

Great product, smooth transactions, quick and well packed shipping. A+++

Thank you for pointing that out! I have updated it now. Earlier I had to lower
the font size on all of the text on the Q&A page to get it to fit on my PC screen
since one drawback on the site I used is it can only have x amount of lines.
I don't use firefox so thank you for the heads up on that I've removed
another line so hopefully, it should work now. It's actually quite simple
to use Weebly to make the site. I didn't have to use any coding (except the
flag counter but that was just copied and pasted) feel free to use any part you
would like. If you need any help on yours I might be able to help a bit.

On the Q&A page, "website's" should not have an apostrophe either. Apostrophes
are only used with 1. possessives (like USPS's website, USPS owns it)
or 2. contractions (isn't = is not, the ' replaces the o).
Also, and more critical, on my computer (Win 10, Firefox) the last entry on that
page (about returns) is covered by the "powered by weebly" ad. You might add
some space below the returns entry, to give a gap for the other.

Otherwise, quite good! Probably took some time figuring out all that html and
stuff. I might even ask if I can steal the code, change the text and pictures,
use it on my own page at some point, but I doubt you'd share that.

Couple misspellings: "Amazing Lego Product's And Deals!" there should not
be an apostrophe and you misspelled "Separate" as "Seperate" (later on you spell
it correctly). Otherwise very good

I'm just struggling to get people to mark their shipments as received/completed.
I've got 6 of 7 orders that delivered before Nov 9th that are still in shipped
status.

Everyone is different, but I like learning about things I don't know (and
am interested in). If I didn't already know about things like colors, Fabuland,
Modulex, etc; I'd be interested in videos on those. I don't really do
much investing with Lego, but I watch a lot of videos on that. Also I watch
set reviews on things I'm interested in, like Modulars or UCS sets.

One thing that's not necessarily informative that would really draw me in
is criticizing Lego or Bricklink transactions; there's an art to talking
about these things without being whiny. For example, Jaabo does a really good
job of talking about problems he encounters without being annoying about it.

Healer

I also started a little late.

I’m in the UK which I think makes it more expensive to buy the complete sets.
If you want to part it out with every single piece I think it would work out
more expensive. I have compromised by not buying many of the set specific pieces
and using a more widely available (thus cheaper) alternative e.g from Santa’s
Workshop (10245) I don’t have the specially printed pieces for the larger reindeer
(Tan brick with eyes and Tan slope with fur).

So far I have ‘completed’ Santa’s workshop, Winter Village Bakery, and, Winter
Village Post Office. I am close to finishing Winter Holiday Train.

It takes a bit of time, if you’re happy to invest time it is quite nice. If you’re
interested I could give you a few tips I have picked up along the way but don’t
want to bore you if of no interest

What's the added value to the usual Lego brick purchasing?

Same as the regular feedback; zero value

Those FB percentages above 70 percent are pretty amazing. […]

It is said that, in the olden times (“Good Old Days”), people gave feedback more
often (fewer “Amazon”/fire & forget buyers, fewer buyers at all).  So older stores
have a “stock” of feedbacks that makes their percentages higher but they generally
now have the same rate as recent stores (so their percentages are slowly going
down).

IOW, it’s not really fair to compare new small stores with big old stores.  BL
buyers have changed a lot.

I'm jealous - the last few buyers at my store haven't given me feedback
😬

It's a depressing state of affairs, really. I mark all my orders complete
once they are, and leave feedback on 95%+ of them (the exceptions being ones
where I'd feel more like giving a neutral, if neutral weren't effectively
negative here). As a buyer I just assumed that would be a default level of courtesy😢

Cob

I've been curious about this. I have a seller with +12,000 FB and they've
never reciprocated FB to my positive, then I have a buyer who did the same.
I was perplexed over both of these since the transactiona and communication seemed
second to none to me - but maybe that's the problem; overcommnication. (?)

But then I did a deeper dive in to several other stores and noticed that getting
feedback 66% should be considered good. That's nuts. Here are the ones
I looked at (I won't mention any stores by name and I'll round to the
nearest 100) Orders are on the left, FB is in the middle, Percentage is on the
right. (These are store feedbacks only.)

#1: 60,800 - 40,600 - 66.8%
#2: 19,500 - 14,500 - 74.4%
#3: 8,400 - 5,400 - 64.3%
#4: 10,000 - 7,500 - 75.0%
#5: 74,500 - 52,800 - 70.9%
#6: 90,700 - 60,100 - 66.3%

Between #1 and #6 alone, that would be ~50,000 missing feedback and I can't
believe that all of those were "neutral" transactions where the buyer felt it
would be best not to say anything.

Those FB percentages above 70 percent are pretty amazing.

Just try to comfort yourself in the thought that all missing feedbacks are happy
Positives. In the event that a buyer is unhappy, their missing feedback is a
good thing (as far as your own score as a seller).

There are many buyers with several hundred feedbacks over many years for which
they have provided ZERO feedbacks to their sellers. But, they must be happy
buyers or they wouldn't keep on buying -- either from the same sellers
over and over or from BrickLink altogether.

At the end of the day, it is the successful orders and payments that matter.
Feedback is fluff and purely voluntary.

Fair points from both of you.

Yes, feedback on 2/3 or 67% of your orders is very good. Some buyers just don't
leave feedback, even if the transaction goes well. Honestly if a buyer spends
money on my product, doesn't leave a negative or neutral, and comes back
again, isn't that another kind of positive feedback, even more valuable than
writing "great seller"?

I'm jealous - the last few buyers at my store haven't given me feedback
😬

It's a depressing state of affairs, really. I mark all my orders complete
once they are, and leave feedback on 95%+ of them (the exceptions being ones
where I'd feel more like giving a neutral, if neutral weren't effectively
negative here). As a buyer I just assumed that would be a default level of courtesy😢

I've only got 1 feedback out of my last 8 orders and only 2 have even marked
them complete. Either way, they are filed, but it got me to look and my longest
streak was 7.

Mine was 12, the first 12 orders I received as a store. Then I lost the streak
when my 13th (woah, unlucky) buyer didn't post feedback.
I know it's not that big of a deal, but recently I've started mailing
orders (sending them off via a postbox or post office) literally within an hour
of them being ordered, so it does grind my gears a bit.

It's probably a lie, but to be fair, there used to be a big fuss about an
underage buyer ordering one of the largest seller's entire store, and when
the order was rightfully canceled, it broke the script to return the items to
the inventory (with the custom description), the BrickLink developers had to
assist for several days to restore the shop, and it prompted Admin_Russell to
recommend sellers to set a max lot limit of 1,000 for this case never to happen
again.

This sellers has some weird thing about lots (look at their fees for "big" lots)
going on and on about how valuable their time is etc.

the whole thing is strange. I value my time as well, but I don't present
it in that fashion.

You can't change a message, so it must be a second message he sent. But don't
worry, he's all talk and no bite. Hopefully Bricklink will shut them down
FAST.

On a slightly separate note, I find it funny how so many non-native english speakers
apologize for their english then proceed to write in better english and grammar
than many native english speakers do.

Agreed here, reading the negative feedback is paramount, the number is absolutely
meaningless and should be removed as it is misleading.

To all new buyers on BL I would advice to check the the 'praise' section
on the top right of your screen, see picture.
If it reads lower than 99% you should start to worry. If it's lower than
98% than contact the seller before placing an order. If it's lower than 97%:
avoid the seller!

In your case I'm sure all will eventually work out right for you because
you will get support from the admins here.

While I agree with this - I wouldn't necessarily advise anything under 99%
to be worried. I've got a neutral and a negative from two customers that
I couldn't please with my customer service, but the rest of my feedback is
positive. I'd say it varies on the feedback % and the number of orders. Feedback
is definitely something every buyer should read before they buy though.
