Thank you guys!

I should have run a search on the Internet. I found this now: http://www.brickpile.com/articles/grey-bluish-gray-stone-grey-or-blay/

In Colors, LeGoLem writes:
I am looking for gray bricks and part, but anywhere I look people only sell dark
or light bluish gray instead of regular gray parts. Why is that? Where are the
good old light gray parts? Why did regular gray become so rare?

You are correct. The changeover from older grays and brown to the newer shades
occurred in 2004.

That's correct. In 2006 LEGO changed Light Gray to Light Bluish Gray, Dark
Gray to Dark Bluish Gray and Brown to Reddish Brown. So all sets from after 2006/2007
have these 3 new colors and all before have the old colors. So the old colors
become more and more rare - especially in new conditions.

Yes it was in 2004

Is Neon Green the answer to this color? The droid torso I sold is on wanted
lists in this color. The only weird thing about this color and Neon Orange,
is that their is no information as to where these colors originated, what sets
they are in, or the time they were released.
Rainey

Neon Green and Neon Orange were ONLY ever used in watch parts. Watch links, round
watch faces... very neon and glowy looking

Ryan,

According to your color chart (http://ryanhowerter.net/colors.html) it looks
like it could just be a production difference, as there were 3 shades of lime
14 years ago.

Medium Lime (1998-2005), Color ID : 115 (Lego), 76 (BL)
Light Lime (1998-2007), Color ID : 120 (Lego), 35 (BL)
Lime (1998-present), Color ID : 119 (Lego) , 34 (BL)

Just to be clear: you opened 4 brand new sets which were the same 14-year-old
set. Three of these sets had the parts in one shade of green, presumably lime,
and the 4th set had all those same parts in a different (lighter) shade of green?

If the shade can be definitely identified, then feel free to add those parts
as alternates to the lime parts.

But I don't know if it has a name. I had noticed neon green, but have nothing
to compare to it.

Also, these parts are what we considered 'Lime' back in 2004.

I'm going to make a wild guess that the assembly facility (likely Enfield
in those days) ran out of a part in a certain color, asked Billund what do we
do now, and were told (based on what was readily available) to use a similar
color.

Having said that, you should look at this …
http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=1096474

Those parts were from the Walgreen's 2003 bonus boxes, and were (at the time)
presumed to be out of tolerance factory rejects. It may shed a little light on
what you are seeing.

There are a LOT of color variations in this set. The others are more stark.

I just saw that - the Lime pieces should definitely be added as Alternates.

Per the inventory for set (5941), these parts are Medium Lime - not Lime,
so there is an official colour for the lighter pieces. I am not sure why
three of this set included these parts in Lime, rather than in Medium Lime, but
they should probably be added to the inventory as Alternates.

The only question I have is what crummy set from 14 years ago, didn't appreciate,
in enough value that it is being parted out vs sold as a complete set?

The problem could stem from this set:

Set No: 8385 Name: Exo Stealth
*
8385-1 (Inv) Exo Stealth
81 Parts, 2003
Sets: Racers: Power Racers

The set was released in 2003, so it should have included this part in dark gray
instead of dark bluish gray. However, all the other parts in the set are bluish
grays, so the year of release for this set may be incorrect since the changeover
occurred in 2004.

I have 37 plates w/stud notches in dark gray,

Part No: 48183 Name: Wedge, Plate 3 x 4 with Stud Notches
*
48183 Wedge, Plate 3 x 4 with Stud Notches
Parts: Wedge, Plate
but never parted out any #8385s.

I wonder if the notched part was an alternate, but never noted?

I can't say for certain, but those crazy bonus box sets might have played
a role as well.
The sets like this one:

Set No: 4679b Name: Super Value 500 LEGO Elements (Bonus box and its contents only)
*
4679b-1 Super Value 500 LEGO Elements (Bonus box and its contents only)
2004
Sets: Creator: Supplemental

Fabrik store Pick-a-Brick, most likely. I would never assume German bulk is fake.

Yes, mane people have listed it: https://www.bricklink.com/catalogPG.asp?P=48183&colorID=10

The newer version with the notches was introduced shortly after Dark Gray was
replaced with Dark Bluish Gray, so it's possible that some sets contained
the new part in the older color.

Still a bit too pricey for me. I'll wait until more German stores get them
and pick them up for 5-6 cents a piece.

Ooh... If those are legitimate, and not mislisted under the wrong color, I may
have to pick up a few hundred of those before they dry up again.

Some German shops seem to have access to large quantities of parts. Obviously
not from parting out, but from some other channel. 1x1 plates in particular seem
in good supply for them. I have no doubt these are listed correctly.

Niek.

I'm not sure, but they look a lot like loom bands...My daughters also use
them as replacement bands to automate the Lego Friends fairground.

I think these bands are x88 but don't come up in known sets. Does anyone
have any of these and could tell me what colour they are or where they could
even come from. They came in a batch of all used Lego parts and no non-Lego
so if they are not genuine they are the only items from the whole batch. They
look Magenta or Dark Pink and also slightly trans. Thanks.

Ooh... If those are legitimate, and not mislisted under the wrong color, I may
have to pick up a few hundred of those before they dry up again. Back around
2004, a small spread of sets resulted in a fairly complete mix of small to medium
bricks and plates, with very few gaps. I assumed that existing meant I could
hold off and order them whenever I first needed them. A few years ago when I
designed Holley Shiftwell in minifig scale, my design called for 20 2x2 corner
plates. They were listing for $3 each. I was able to reduce that number to
four per model, which allowed me to justify building both a flying and grounded
version. There are some other parts that I never picked up in any quantity that
I've had to basically figure out how to omit from a few MOCs. I got lucky
with the 1x1 plates that I needed a fair chunk of them when I did (would have
been a lot luckier to have needed them when they were down at a couple pennies
each), so the price didn't go up even higher, as I've been able to incorporate
them into a few other MOCs because I dug deep and stocked up while I could.

But I'm suspicious of these. Unless there's another regular set that
slipped through that includes them (none are listed by inventory as of yet),
CMFs have all been 100% made in China, so it should be impossible for European
sources to yield piles of CMF-exclusive parts so soon after release, and unlikely
to happen even at a later date unless the parts show up in something else like
Build-A-Minifig.

As already stated, they've existed for over a decade, but they are stupid
rare right now. I once sucked up about 90% of all Bricklink stock in a single
order for 60 of them at $1 each, and I'm running low again. Sleep Kitty
does indeed appear to come with one, but CMFs haven't shipped with extras
of the small parts since S2, I think. So, every copy of Sleepy Kitty will probably
come with exactly one dark-purple 1x1 plate, as a CMF-ish release the components
will not be available loose on S@H, and even palping the packets to identify
the contents will still result in at best a 50% chance of correctly identifying
a Sleepy Kitty without opening the packet first. Time and effort not even being
factored into the equation, that still leaves an average cost of $8 to guarantee
a yield of one of these plates, which means this won't make a significant
dent in the demand or cause the prices to drop. What it might do is hold them
steady where they are, since jacking the price up too much higher will just push
people to go buying up sitting Uni-Kitty packets to get the parts they need.

I just noticed that my Ninja - Samurai, Red Young has a white headband instead
of the usual gray one. Is this a catalog error or a misprint?

They actually came out a long time ago in only one set:

Set No: 4755 Name: Knight Bus
*
4755-1 (Inv) Knight Bus
236 Parts, 2 Minifigures, 2004
Sets: Harry Potter: Prisoner of Azkaban

However, it is making a very small recurrence in the new Unikitty! Collectible
Minifigure series:

Set No: coluni1 Name: Sleepy Unikitty, Unikitty!, Series 1 (Complete Set with Stand)
*
coluni1-10 (Inv) Sleepy Unikitty, Unikitty!, Series 1 (Complete Set with Stand)
1 Part, 1 Minifigure, 2018
Sets: Unikitty!: Unikitty! Series 1

Cheers,
Randy

Hey all!

I have three tiles of 3069bpb005, but all the colours of the gold pieces are
different.

Is this the yellow coming off? The middle tile still shines. The one on the right
looked like the black ink smudged a little in the print.

Hope someone can help.
