Chose "European Union" as seller - and Great Britain sellers still came up. Shouldn't
that be changed now after Brexit?

Bricklink time is currently somewhere in about 2004.

I think they already had websites with timezones in 2004..

TLG had big plans with BrickLink but is choking now..

BrickLink is busy with USA sales taxes, we really should not expect multitasking
in their attempts to break things. They did say they will address the Brexit
issues before 5 February (they did not say which aeon though).

You can see this when you zoom into the image (the purple round 2x2 with axle hole is on top of it). If you are trying to match the image, I would add the bottom blue piece to the inventory to make it 17 pieces, otherwise delete the image.

The inventory is actually correct, so this request will not be accepted.

I have submitted a new image to the catalog to correct the problem.

Cheers,
Randy

I have a bunch of wanted lists, and I like to prioritize my lists in order to
keep track of the ones for which I am actively purchasing parts. Can you please
make it so that the organization selection of choice (in my case by "Name") stays?
Currently, when I leave wanted list and come back, the organization reverts
back to the default to arrange by "Newest". TIA!

Now that I look at the higher "set" ID entry of char01-9, it has the 18674 entry
included. I would suggest just deleting the image for mar0032 so it does not
show that 18674 blue tile on the bottom.

Hi!
From Brand New Bag From Set 7477 Just Parted Out the Set And It Included The String In A Box Marked
"4276320
0.75 M"
I Also Measured The String And It Was 78 cm (approx) Not Sure If that Is the reason why it is marked as undetermined length and whether or not it should remain that way as it is technically not 75cm exact
The Box Was In A Sealed Bag From The Set.
Thank you for your time!

I was parting out the set today and noticed that mine came with 4 61190d, not 2 as stated in the inventory for the set. The part lists states 2. This needs to be changed. I looked at my other 6 battle packs and all 4 of my sets come with 4 61190d pieces, not 2. In order for the forum to go through I had to put to delete the item then add it again. Thanks, - SB

I reprocessed the pics. I'm waiting to hear from the photographer and admins
about submitting them and letting the credit stay in the original name.

I actually reprocessed them as well. I will go through your submissions and see
if they offer improvement over mine. I notice in some of yours, the Dark Blue
has turned to Black.

Image credit of course will be given to the original submitter.

I thought it WAS black. If all of those sticker prints are dark blue, I don't
have the skills to take the orange out and leave the blue. I masked off some
obvious colors and then took the color out entirely.

I believe the Lufthansa logo is always Dark Blue:

https://brickset.com/sets/40146-1

The windows are black though.

I used Irfanview, and in half the cases, Auto-Adjust Colors did the trick. In
the other ones I used the Color Corrections feature. If you click on an area
in the left image that is supposed to be white, it makes the adjustment for you.

I said the same thing when they revealed the Indominus Rex in Jurassic world.

It's like the CGI team didn't read the script.

When you are in a store and filter by items on your wanted list the auto-fill
[min | max] option appears. However, it seems as both of these options are useless
in their current state and a different option would be useful.

auto-fill max automatically adds all pieces a seller has available to your cart.
If you want 1 and the seller has 14,000 you get 14,000 added. I'm not sure
how that is useful. You have to manually adjust every lot to the correct qty.

The max is good when you have a wanted list of items you want to get in high
qtys, so whenever you find a store with good prices, you can open that WL and
click max.

auto-fill min automatically selects the number you have set in your wanted list
but ignores price, so if a seller has a $.01 piece listed for $400 you get that
in your cart. You again have to manually adjust every lot.

Yeah, it would be great if the max price would do something when auto-filling
min

A much more useful feature would be an autofill like the autofill min that fills
in the correct qty, but one that also accounts for the max price that you have
set in your wanted list and does not add pieces to your cart that are more than
you want to pay.

Maybe an extra filter option would do the trick
"Hide Items if Price is ≥ Max price"
That way you you could see only the items you want from the store and use the
min/max options as they are.

I love this suggestion as an extra filter option.

Maybe the contributing member, LegoMego, is just an optimist looking at their
world through rose colored glasses and doesn't see things as clearcut or
black & white as others

Okay, I'll stop with the idioms

Two file adjustments below: two and three click adjustments, respectively, to
the original file using my old iMac. Just tonal.

Yep! I have shipped, or almost shipped, the wrong color on more than one occasion.
Tan and Dark Tan renders are also terrible and nigh indistinguishable at times.

As similar things happened to me as well in the past, i started to dig into the
settings here.

You can choose to show a color box and the color name directly, in your order
settings.
Then the small Image is shown, next to it the color box, and then the real color
name.

Learn or adjust to pack only by the colorname and box, this way you eradicate
most picking errors. Never pack from the shown pictures, as they are wrong some
times.
Unlearn what you have learned. * *

Is there a way to see all available Lego parts in a specific colour - either
here on BL or other sites?

Rather than searching for individual pieces that might not exist in a certain
colour, I'd like to see the parts that are available/do exist to help with
MOCs.

If you go to the catalog tab there is a color guide part which lists all the
colors and you can then select from there to see all the parts that are made
in that colour

https://www.bricklink.com/catalogColors.asp?utm_content=subnav

Note that there are different ways of defining 'color exists':

(1) Is it for sale? If there are only a few available worldwide, check those
listings: if they say 'HTF' (hard to find) they are probably legit; if
they are cheap with no specification and generally no image: they are likely
non-existent results of typos.

(2) On wanted lists: This is just wishful thinking of Bricklink users, hoping
that the part will someday appear in that color.

(3) Appearing in sets: Did LEGO bring out a set (and does Bricklink have the
inventory of this set) in which this part appears in that color. Some parts are
available in colors even though they never came out in a set. Beware, as those
ghost parts may be rather expensive.

These 3 different ways all appear on the above Color Guide page. And then there
is:

(4) Proof of existence: is there an actual photo of the part in the Bricklink
catalog? This can be seen in store listings and on the catalog page.

That link was exactly what I was looking for. I just wanted to know if parts
I want exist and are for sale and if not, find something similar that might do
(or actually be better than the ones I considered). Cheers

If you go to the catalog tab there is a color guide part which lists all the

Bingo! That's exactly what I wanted. Cheers

https://www.bricklink.com/catalogColors.asp?utm_content=subnav

And then there
is:

(4) Proof of existence: is there an actual photo of the part in the Bricklink
catalog? This can be seen in store listings and on the catalog page.

for the categories in BL XP come from? They are crisp and the colors seem decent.

The edge lines on the representative renders on XP came as a result of tens of
thousands of Studio renders being set aside during the 2017 image project. Here's
one of the ones that made it through:

Part No: 3020 Name: Plate 2 x 4
*
3020 Plate 2 x 4
Parts: Plate {Dark Gray}
With no edge lines and only a minimal amount of shading, a majority of those
images lacked enough definition at a small size to be an improvement over the
classic "black line" render. So in most cases, official LEGO renders were used
instead:

Part No: 3020 Name: Plate 2 x 4
*
3020 Plate 2 x 4
Parts: Plate {Light Bluish Gray}
The standard rendering engine on Studio is configured more for entire models
than single parts, so for those XP images, we used a special processing system
that is not part of the regular Studio package. They were not batch produced
- each one was hand crafted.

The trouble with renders is that line-drawn renders like those representative
images are "tuned" to an optimal size. Troy's renders were given edge lines
just thick enough to look great at 80 x 60. If they would be shown smaller or
bigger than that you would need to adjust the line thickness. Those of you who
have used LDraw and some of the popular rendering tools associated with it, you
may be familiar with that setting.

In modern web design, images are often expected to be used at a variety of sizes.
The old BrickLink did not have that challenge. All part images on the site were
small and exactly the same standard size, except for the large "see it closer"
images which would open in another setting and were often a different image entirely
from the "thumbnail". I hesitate to even call those images thumbnails because
they actually were the standard for the site. All the catalog list pages, inventories,
order detail pages, etc (and even the Forum macro tags) were only shown at that
standard. Yes, there are/were ways to see the large images in some different
views, but most of the time people were looking at the small ones.

If you do more renders in the future, please, enable the setting to show the
word LEGO on the studs... the XP images may be confused as knock-offs brands...

Hi again,

If you visit a store and go to feedback people can’t instantly see the flag.

While I knew about the setting to show flags on the regular feedback page, I'd
love to see them in a store's feedback page (when you click on "Orders" or
feedback rating in the top right corner) as well!

I think you'll find he means when you go to a store's feedback page rather
than a personal feedback page. So that way although they may have shipping to
your country selected as an option you can see if anyone from your country has
bought from them recently and what the transaction was like.

Thank you all for your input, good to see I am not alone.

The brick is LBG and the slope white.

Having the old renders would be an improvement. The images that RecycledBrick
showed seem great.

Again, Thanks for participating.

Yep. Nice catch!

It is used in Step 10 on Page 87 of the instructions. The other one in the inventory
is most likely an extra that was not removed from the Regular Items section when
it was added to the Extra Items section.

some color images. I know others complained about it also. Because of this,
I make mistakes when pulling the right color parts.

I have no trouble telling the difference between any colors of real bricks or
any of the photo images. It is only the part renderings. Maybe if enough people
can't tell either, we can get it changed to something that is easier to see.

So, who can tell the difference between these two images? One is white and one
is LBG. They are screen shots of rendered parts without any editing. What say
you?

Donna

Yep! I have shipped, or almost shipped, the wrong color on more than one occasion.
Tan and Dark Tan renders are also terrible and nigh indistinguishable at times.

However, this does bring up a larger point about which types of images serve
our users the best. To be honest, the old renders with black lines were terrific
at the 80 x 60 size, and I've long considered the idea of bringing them back
as an option, specifically for sellers picking orders.

...

If enough people think they are an improvement over what we have now, we could
maybe give an option to select one or the other depending on preference.

I agree that the older renders with the black edges were terrific. One reason
was their simplicity, but another was consistency. I've browsed stores
where I'm looking at one color category of parts, and the small images are
not all the same color. (This is most noticeable with light bluish gray and
dark tan.)

I would love an option for viewing the original style thumbnail images. Maybe
it could be some checkbox or dropdown menu option?

All attached images are just for nostalgia.

What say
you?

Donna

You may be able to solve the problem partially by adjusting the brightness of
your screen. I have mine set at 50% and it's perfect.

However, this does bring up a larger point about which types of images serve
our users the best. To be honest, the old renders with black lines were terrific
at the 80 x 60 size, and I've long considered the idea of bringing them back
as an option, specifically for sellers picking orders.

The trouble we have with White images now is that the definition of the brick
is created not by hard lines but by shading. The old renders had no shading,
so the color was perfectly clear and consistent throughout the image. Although
some of the larger parts had interference from the heavy black stud lines.

With the new LEGO renders, they are bigger of course, and are superior from a
marketing standpoint because of the elegant shading, which sort of puts them
halfway between a render and a photo. But I'm thinking they are not so great
when it comes to hardcore order pulling where you want to keep the images small
so you get more inventory lines per screen.

For newer users, take a look here to see what the old renders looked like:

https://www.bricklink.com/catalogColors.asp?itemType=P&itemNo=3001special&v=2

If enough people think they are an improvement over what we have now, we could
maybe give an option to select one or the other depending on preference.

My current inventory bugaboo is black vs dark blue, but I've mostly "solved"
it by storing them in separate drawers.

I know that feeling too. If you hav'nt got good natural daylight they can
all look black

The way my inventory is stored makes it unlikely that I would pull the wrong
piece, but I do frequently waste my time looking for the wrong color because
of the LBG/white renders.

The images from LEGO are very poorly rendered with way too much light and shadow
which leads to color confusion. Our old thumbnail images had much more color
clarity but couldn't be enlarged, so what we have now is just a decent compromise.
Since the site changed to using renders, members like randyf have spent countless
hours manually adjusting each image to visually match a color.

https://www.bricklink.com/catalogMembers.asp?viewAll=I

The White items are particularly bad. I am happy to help fix any items that still
have bad part renders that are bothering you. Just send me a message with the
number and color and I will upload a color-corrected image to replace the one
we have. I really don't mind helping so don't be shy!

I will fix the White slope from your example.

I sort by colour when picking so it isn't an issue.

I looked up both parts in white and neither matches the shades you have shown
here, so I don't know if something strange is going on.

Probably happened to me a hundred times when picking orders. For me it is not
just the close proximity of the colour renders. When i pick orders i do so off
a laptop and if you don't have the screen at the right angle it makes the
colour proximity worse.

I am yet to pick the wrong coloured part but that is because i always double
check and go back and read what colour it is. So no mistakes, but costs me time
when picking.

For me the 1x1 brick with stud is the lbg and the 1x3 slope is the white one.

Cheers
Douglas

Thanks for the background information! I guess "light blue" was just being descriptive
rather than trying to name an exact color. I guess my confusion was due to the
fact that sometimes exact colors are named - e.g. minifig heads with "dark orange"
features

Thanks in advance.

The Bricklink Color "Light Blue" was out of service years before this part came
out. The person who wrote the description for the part was just using general
color description. It probably should have said sand blue, but a lot of people
don't bother to track down exact colors.

Thanks! I listed a minifig and it unsurprisingly got deleted as my description
implied that I had swapped out one torso for another: "sweater pattern appears
to be sand blue rather than light blue"

To satisfy my own curiosity, BL did spell them as 'GREY' up until somewhere
around late Summer or early Fall of 2002, then they flipped to 'GRAY'.
This was, IIRC, just before the new shades of gray came out, and was changed
because some felt that spelling it as GREY was a Euro spelling. Something like
that. This is based on old email archives (which I still have until the HD dies).

Then the bleys arrived, and much hair was pulled out.

I have bars with bevelled edges which are shorter than the flat edge bars and
also some bevelled edged bars which are the same length as flat edge bars. There
does not seem to be a consistent difference in variants to be sure if it is a
specific variant that differentiates the length.

If jokes allowed, and names stay the same in the end:

I propose we spell 'em backwards, as they have backward-compatibility

Yrag thgil (until 2003)
Yrag krad (ultil 2003)

Bonus points:
-they seems so nordic that vikings will love us form Valhalla

We have considered harmonization of colors in the past, and we continue to do
so. But one thing I will mention is that the word "OLD" is likely not a term
we will include in Item Names or Color Names.

On BrickLink, the color and item name are often concatenated, meaning they are
stuck together for use as a single term. The official color numbers of Modulex
were removed from the color name for this very reason, to keep people from getting
confused.

And speaking of numbers, I'm thinking the first step in harmonization would
be to replace the BrickLink color numbers with official LEGO numbers. What do
people think of THAT idea. When we speak to internal folks, they tend to use
the numbers instead of the names, so there is value in those numbers.

I think using the color numbers is a good idea, it would remove any ambiguity.
There could be an account option for each user to select which group of color
names is used to appear beside the number. So if someone wants to work with the
official lego names they could choose that option. Or the peeron names, bricklink
names - could even have options for other languages. It wouldn't be a large
table table to maintain.

Colour names are used in different ways. They are used as base part colours but
also used in descriptions as text. So any scheme would need to cover both uses.

Reusing names is a very bad idea especially if bricklink only announced it in
the forum, or only announced it once. People come and go over long timescales
and there would need to be constant reminders about changes such as reusing colour
names for different colours. We cannot have long time but infrequent users coming
back one day, buying a load of light gray parts and getting what they think is
LBG.

Uh oh.... If that ever happens, it better be announced weeks in advance and
reminded daily, because otherwise that'd cause a heck of a lot of problems
for everyone who is syncing inventory or downloading inventory for whatever purpose,
plus Brickstock needs to be updated the exact same second as Bricklink rolls
out the new numbers, etc etc... and then still it's gonna cause heaps of
conflicts and mis-listed inventory for many folks who managed to not check the
forum at any point...

Don't really see the benefit, because the numbers only appear in the links,
and people who use links and numbers are not simply browsing, they're using
some type of system. And when using systems, changes are trouble.

Comments from Submitter:
I don't have this to be absolutely certain, but 3 other minifigs in the set have updated torsos with ribs. I think the inventory was just built with minifigs already in the catalog, but this and Santa should have been new minifigs. The correct Blacktron was eventually added to the catalog for another set.

Actually that Santa originally came out in 1998, so he might be right.
