2 sets of black technic pins, blue technic axle pins, etc.

Once there is another "lot" listing, I don't think that you can combine them
(I couldn't find anything). I know when you part a set out you can use that
if it finds an existing lot to combine them together, but you'll have to
track the parts at that time which for me was just as annoying.

What I've done is part the set out to the stock room and then when I'm
ready to move everything to my inventory, promote it all at once. This creates
duplicates, but if you use your inventory menu, search for "non-unique" items
and you will see only the duplicates. You can then manually add the lots together
and delete the dups. It's still kind of annoying, but at least you can clean
up your lots.

  Hi everyone,
This is my first post on here, so apologies if I get the format wrong.

I recently won a large lot of loose Lego at auction, (for too much money), and
have been working my way sorting through it all.

What hooked me was that it came with 30+ instruction sheets, all from the late
80's and early 90's, plus the box for 6542 Launch and Load and 6286 Pirate
Schooner.

Having now spent a couple of surprisingly enjoyable weeks cleaning and picking
out bits, I have 21 near complete sets (minus any Minifigures), but also normally
missing a couple of special pieces.

My question is - What should I do with it now?!

should I (A) looking to buy all of the missing parts (currently 215, inc. minifigs
across 21 sets) to complete the set and sell as 100% complete.

Overall it seems that I need to spend 25-35% of the set selling price to complete.

Or (B) part out and save myself the time of buying the parts to sell them on?

Part of me feels that it would be nice to complete them, but it will also take
a lot longer to get things up and running.

Note - given their age there are also a fair few discoloured parts which I would
want to de-yellow before selling.

All lot of the left over basic part will just join my son's collection.

Any advice would be great.

Thanks,

P.S. Not sure what happened to the photos flipping!

I'm currently putting together some sets which need a few parts to complete.
Going by the instructions, you have a few nice ones.

You've obviously already checked the prices and weighed up your profit margin
but are those percentages of your intial cost or the selling price?

It's also worth checking how often the sets sell. In my case, that's
just in the UK for now.

Consider whether you want to sell them quickly or if you're happy to sit
on them for longer to get a better price. If you check your sets that other sellers
have in their stores, you can see when they listed them. Ebay, Gumtree, Facebook,
etc. is better for a quick sale but normally at a lower price.

I know some sellers use Ebay for complete sets and their BL store for parts.
I do when the selling fees are £1.

For example, one of my sets has only sold once on here in the UK in the last
6 months but I've seen it go several times on Ebay for what I consider good
prices.

I've freshened-up some yellowed parts, but as many people will tell you,
they discolour again and sometimes quickly, so I won't sell them. Also, even
though older sets/parts would be expected to show signs of wear, everyone has
a different idea of what's acceptable.

That's just my way of thinking but I hope it's of some help.

25-35% seems a bit high to me. I don't have a good rule of thumb because
I hardly sell any sets, but it just seems high. Are there any sets where the
cost needed to complete is a bit lower than that? Maybe focus on completing those
together with the sets for which you have boxes.

This should be added to the counterparts section. It is a piece that has a sticker on it. Sources 1) I'm an owner of this set 2) The sticker sheet clearly shows 5 stickers, but there are only 4 counterpart pieces.

Sorry. I didn't know how to upload a picture of the part with the sticker
applied.

Official name should be:

Black Tile, Modified 2 x 3 with 2 Open O Clips with Red Octopus (Marvel HYDRA

The proper procedure to add a stickered Counterpart to BrickLink and a set inventory
is as follows:

(1) Add the stickered part to the BrickLink catalog:

https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogImageAdd.page?itemType=P

Help on adding an image to the BrickLink catalog:

Hmmmm, not necessarily -- light grey and light bluish grey are considerably
more difficult to tell apart than dark grey and dark bluish grey

I noticed that several parts were old dark grey while the majority were dark

I checked the inventory and found that all parts should have been dark bluish
grey. There was no mention of old dark grey parts.

These parts (2* 1x4 plate and 6* Hinge Plate 1 x 2 Locking with 1 Finger On Top)
are definitely old dark grey. They are not sun damaged or faded; they are full
and evenly coloured top, bottom and sides. Also no other colour parts are affected.

So

1) Is this unusual?
2) Can the Inventory reflect that this set may have old dark grey alternative
parts.

There were a few sets from those crossover years that were reported to contain
a mixture of both grays. Most notably for me, is the beautiful

10030-1 (Inv) Imperial Star Destroyer - UCS

I don't know about the inventory, but certainly the listing notes can and

I'll add: assuming the logic holds true for both dark and light grays. Which

  Hi!

We sold some used trans-neon bricks 1x1 and the buyer is saying that they are
not trans-neon orange because they do not glow under black light.

Unless we're mistaken, the new trans-neon orange does not glow under black
light, are we wrong here? I remember the bricks as I listed them not too long
ago and I had compared the color to trans-neon orange we had from brand new sets
parted out and to some trans-orange again from parted out brand new lego sets
and the color was not trans-orange, it had the reddish tinge that the trans-neon
orange has but it's not 'milky' like the old trans-neon orange.

Are we mistaken? If we are we will correct our assumptions but we seem to recall
seeing a discussion about trans-neon orange but can't find it at the moment.

I think it's probably your mistake, for two reasons. First, 3005 1x1 bricks
have only been produced once in Trans-Neon Orange, in 2005 for set 7258, which
only had ONE copy. So the piece is very rare, whereas 3005 in Trans-Orange has
been in over 60 sets and is currently in production. Additionally, since 3005
in Trans-Neon Orange is only from 2005, which was before the transition to the
newer, redder Trans-Neon Orange color, it's very likely that the part only
exists in the older, milkier version of Trans-Neon Orange. If you think you found
redder ones, they're probably actually Trans-Orange, which also has an older/newer
shade difference with some looking more red than others.

Second, I've been cataloging 500,000 used parts over the last 6 months, and
I've been separating the newer and older shades of Trans-Neon Orange. I've
looked at them all under a blacklight, and they ALL fluoresce. The older shade
fluoresces more brightly, but the newer redder ones definitely fluoresce as well.
Every. Single. One. Whereas Trans-Orange never fluoresces, ever.

I posted recently that I found out some of my Trans-Orange candle flame parts
fluoresce under black light.

Part No: 37775 Name: Wave Rounded Straight Single with Small Pin End (Candle Flame)
*
37775 Wave Rounded Straight Single with Small Pin End (Candle Flame)
Parts: Energy Effect
. This part is not supposed to exist
in Trans-Neon Orange.

With how much detail-work I've been doing with colors recently, I could probably
definitely identify which color they are from a high-quality non-blacklight picture
if you can obtain one.

Weird! I'd be very interested in seeing a comparison picture of that part
next to Trans-Neon Orange parts under a blacklight. I've personally never
found a non-neon part that fluoresces, but I know they definitely exist, and
I've seen pictures of Old Dark Red fluorescing as well as comments from other
users on other colors.

On the flip side, though, I've never seen evidence of actual Neon parts NOT
fluorescing, and I'll remain skeptical without photo evidence of it.

  Okay, I have another development.

I also have a trans-purple 3L bar that should be more definite since there are
no "trans-light purple" for that color in the catalog.

Part No: 87994 Name: Bar 3L (Bar Arrow)
*
87994 Bar 3L (Bar Arrow)

So, it appears that for the 4L bar...

Part No: 30374 Name: Bar 4L (Lightsaber Blade / Wand)
*
30374 Bar 4L (Lightsaber Blade / Wand)
Parts: Bar

The 3 that I have that are "lighter" perfectly match the color of the 3L bar.

Meaning I have 2 that are darker.

I tried to take a picture, but the camera and lighting make them look "trans-dark
blue", but they are not as I have one of those in the pic as well. (trust me,
the pic makes them look much closer than in person, the two in question are def
purple)

Picture Key:
Blue Mark: "Trans-Dark Blue"
Red Mark: "Trans-Purple" - match the 3L trans-purple
Green Mark: "Trans-Purple" - but darker than the other ones.

I might see if I can get a better pic.
My current fringe theory is that the two that are different came from a newer
set possibly.

Thanks Randy! Seems like you're often chiming in in my color questions. I
appreciate you sharing all you knowledge with me!

Those are just variations of Trans-Purple like there are slight variations for
almost all colors. Trans-Light Purple is very obvious:

https://www.flickr.com/photos/126975831@N07/15018302947/

The lightsaber blade was the only System part ever made in that color. Besides
that, it was a Clikits exclusive.

Cheers,
Randy

Yes, we are aware, but none of the current admin team were admins when this problem
was created over 15 years ago. The hope is to move everything pre-2010 Flat Silver
to Pearl Light Gray at some point.

With how much detail-work I've been doing with colors recently, I could probably
definitely identify which color they are from a high-quality non-blacklight picture
if you can obtain one.

I'm sure someone here knows a lot more and can help more, but I'll offer
my two cents. LEGO has changed the plastic composition of transparent parts multiple
times, as well as changing the properties of trans neon orange in the process,
like you stated. I don't think I can post off site links here,

You can certainly post off site links on the forum, just not ones to concurrent
sites (sites that sell LEGO, including S@H).

   but absorption
of ultra violet light is dependent on plastic composition, not color.

But colour is part of the composition

   You can
research this yourself and send resources to the buyer.

I noticed that several parts were old dark grey while the majority were dark
bluish grey.

2) Can the Inventory reflect that this set may have old dark grey alternative
parts.

This set was produced after LEGO had adjusted their color palette, it is not
exactly uncommon for a mixture of new and old greys to be found in the same set
in this era. LEGO never threw anything away, so they used their remaining inventory.
The inventory will probably need to be adjusted, or at the very least a footnote.
There are other sets from the same time that are missing the same clarification.

It’s not “should have been DBG,” it’s “were not reported as having been found
in DG.”

It could now that you found an example.

Some sets have numbered bags. Some have clear bags. When clear bags are used,
LEGO can fiddle with how parts are bagged at the factory, so the ability to predict
that is not available.

Gray? The parts we have look like pearl, not flat silver?

https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?P=40378#T=P

According to the Lego site as far as silver colours go it only shows up as:-

Description Silver Met.
Category Bricks, Special
Element 6097639
Design Number 40378

and Silver Metalic tranlates to Flat Silver on Bricklink but as already mentioned
not all parts/colours belong to a set or are catalogued on the Lego site indefinitely

The situation is then made worse by Bricklink not using Offical Lego colour names/references
which means people can translate them to the Bricklink site and colour palette
incorrectly and so although the part also shows up on BL in Pearl Light Gray
it may be that it only exists in Flat Silver or as Lego call it Silver Metalic.
This is another important reason why using Legos offical colour names should
take precedence over using colour names just because we like the sound of them
better?

https://www.bricklink.com/message.asp?ID=1098690
https://www.bricklink.com/message.asp?ID=1031456

In the first link you essentially have 3 different colours and they are described
correctly by TLG?

The fact that some of these are slightly different shades I’m sure you are also
aware is common with many other colours too such as Pearl Gold and Yellow though
we don’t separate those or give them their own name either?

If people feel the need to separate those shades even though their tone can vary
to the point that its non conclusive then the comments can always be used saying
Darker/lighter than usual or if it’s a really old colour from a time before Lego
named their colours then I see no issue with Bricklink keeping its own colour
names for those but to purposely use different colour names for the bulk of colours
when TLG have already provided a name for them will always create ambiguity between
different users interpretation of how that matches to bricklinks description
of colours which is detrimental to the accuracy of the catalog? The name of a
colour is like a part number if it does'nt match exactly then you are always
going to run into problems with people guessing or making their own judgments
about what best fits the colour name given by BL?

in trans-purple.

3 of them appear lighter hue.

I see there is price guide info and a picture for the trans-light purple, but
it doesn't look like that color ever came in a set

Is there documentation that this part varies in this color?

Yes, this part comes in two different colors of transparent purple. One of them
is Trans-Purple and the other is Trans-Light Purple. The Trans-Light Purple one
was only used as the lightsaber blade for Mace Windu in

Set No: 7261 Name: Clone Turbo Tank (with Light-Up Mace Windu, Trans-Light Purple Lightsaber Blade)

You can read the Additional Notes for the set on that page to understand why
it is not connected to the set through the catalog. (I strongly believe that
the light-up figures should have inventories.)

Cheers,
Randy

Okay, I have another development.

I also have a trans-purple 3L bar that should be more definite since there are
no "trans-light purple" for that color in the catalog.

Part No: 87994 Name: Bar 3L (Bar Arrow)
*
87994 Bar 3L (Bar Arrow)
Parts: Bar {Trans-Purple}

Unless someone has already done it, then you will have to follow the manual part
by part but it takes some time for even a 1000 piece set. For the UCS MF, it
will take a long time!
