Source: MISB-based set that has never been mixed with other bricks.

Two questions have arised after re-counting my set before putting it up for sale:

1) Part

Part No: 32181c02 Name: Technic, Shock Absorber 10L Damped (Undetermined Type)
*
32181c02 Technic, Shock Absorber 10L Damped (Undetermined Type)
Parts: Technic, Shock Absorber
Marked for Deletion

says that the "spring type" is "undetermined", but there are no variants to choose
between. Shouldn't there be some? Attached is a picture of the part in my
set.

2) After counting this set, I have 4 left over bricks: 1x black 32054, 2x black
41677, 1x LBG 6538c, and one brick is missing: 1x 32278. These extra/missing
parts seems to make up for the differences between the BL inventory and Peeron's
(I've actually verified Peeron's inventory some years ago). It seems
that BL's inventory corresponds with the parts list in the building instructions
but apparently, there are inconsistencies between this and the actual contents
of the box. I've tried counting the number of bricks required in the building
instructions for those four parts, but there are six books, and I can't make
any of the counts in either of the two models match any of BL's or Peeron's
counts. But how should I handle these missing/extra parts? (I can see that the
part I'm missing was added to the BL inventory in 2012 but not find the reason
why).

Part No: 32054 Name: Technic, Pin 3L with Friction Ridges and Stop Bush
*

Parts: Technic, Pin

Part No: 41677 Name: Technic, Liftarm Thin 1 x 2 - Axle Holes
*
41677 Technic, Liftarm Thin 1 x 2 - Axle Holes
Parts: Technic, Liftarm

Part No: 6538c Name: Technic, Axle Connector 2L (Smooth with x Hole + Orientation)
*
6538c Technic, Axle Connector 2L (Smooth with x Hole + Orientation)
Parts: Technic, Connector

Part No: 32278 Name: Technic, Liftarm Thick 1 x 15
*

Parts: Technic, Liftarm

Thanks for finding that. The short connector is what the original submitter
was wanting to add to the set and this along with maggiec's sealed set definitely
confirm it.

  Therefore, I think all of the evidence found in this thread added to the image
is sufficient to prove that the alternate existed.

The alternate is where the concern lies. The question is whether the set ever
came with the long connector and that is what has yet to be convincingly demonstrated.

I'm glad some headway is being made on these palm trunks. When they first
appeared in the catalog, I couldn't make head or tail as to where they fit
into the inventory system.

140 Parts, 5 Minifigures, 1992
Sets: Town: Paradisa

* Change 6 Part Brown {2536 Plant, Tree Palm Trunk to 2536b Plant, Tree Palm Trunk - Short Connector, no Axle Hole}

Comments from Submitter:
I have bought the set 6411 on Ebay and the real palm trunk seems to be 2436b (empty hole, no slots inside).
All the parts are original because many of them were still clutched together and some of them are yellowed.

Unfortunately, I decided not to approve this request. I think you're probably
right and I'd like to get the undetermined entry out of the set inventory,
but there's no point in doing so if it's based on a source that I consider
unreliable.

If you find more reliable information in the future, then please resubmit the
request.

Robert -

I found a BrickShelf gallery that documents a sealed set being opened:
http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=268792

In a couple of the images in the upper-left corner you can definitely tell that
the palm trunks have the short connector:

Therefore, I think all of the evidence found in this thread added to the image
is sufficient to prove that the alternate existed.

Cheers,
Randy
