| Hi everyone
I have been buying bulk mixed Lego for a while now and I like to think I'm
getting pretty good at spotting fake parts. However, this has me stumped. I found
this dark bluish gray part and the colour just looks off. Its a slightly browner
gray and its almost translucent, but the size, shape and printing on the top
seem fine. Has anyone else got any idea what is going on here? Is it just that
the quality has gone down?
The 'off' one is on the right in each picture. I'm not sure if the
difference comes across on the images very well though.
In the last image I have put a dark gray one on its on on the right for comparison.
Thanks!
Debbie

By your description, I’d say:
— “translucent” = milky = how ABS looks without pigment, so just a case of not
enough pigment,
— “browner gray” = maybe Dark Gray and not DBG?

Maybe open the blinds?
Turn on the light?
Go outside?

Thanks for the response. Yes by translucent I do mean 'milky'. The pigment
thing sounds like it. The pics were taken in a windowsill in full daylight, but
I'm afraid in the North of England at this time if year that's as bright
as it gets! This part is so pale in colour when you turn it over you can see
light through the stud.

Oh, then he full daylight on a white windowsill might have actually confused
the camera (especially phones): “hmm, it’s all white, let’s tone it down” and
you get a grey photo.
With all-automatic cameras, finding the right lighting while not triggering dumb
automatisms is sometimes as hard as a complicated full manual camera

Yep, definitely not enough pigment then.
