Usually how many Lego sets does an original Lego brown box contain?
Does it depend on the size of the set?

Yes. Very large sets can be 1 per shipping box, and smaller sets can have many
sets per shipping box.

Yes the "masterbox" or however some folks refer to it as can have
a variety of # of sets. Usually CMF ones are 1:1 but there are examples where
there is a "retail" version which is 72 loose bags. Often it's 1:1
for large sets. Some small-mid ones have 4 per. I think for a while even modulars
like the Downtown Diner came in 2s.

Basically - it depends

It could be 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8. Those are the ones I've seen but no doubt
there are others too.

Does anyone know if I can order the original Lego box (that includes the Lego
sets of course)
directly from Lego or other retailers? Of if Lego only sells the brown box to
retailers?

Lego does not sell these but you may get one if you happen to order the amount
of sets they pack in one.

Yes, I know. But how to know how many copies that a particular set will be kept
in one box?
I do not want to order more than that, but I do not want to order less than that
because chances are I won't get the original box if I order less than that.

Go to your local Walmart as they often have the boxes just sitting on carts filling
up isles and see how many sets per box

Seid nur neidisch.

It's been awhile, but I vividly recall people tossing cardboard boxes away
by the entrance of the local grocery in Germany (and taking home cereal in the
clear bags, for example). Times have changed.

Two 10175 fit in one box.
There must be infinite sized boxes?

Infinite sized boxes? What do you mean?

I have been thinking of different ways to keep my Lego sets, either opened or
unopened and finally realized that keeping them in original Lego cardboard that
comes with shipment is probably the best way.

At the moment, I am keeping my Lego sets in the wardrobe but the problem then
I have no where
to keep my clothes. I have also got some Lego sets just put around (not in the
wardrobe) but in less than a year or two they are covered with a good layer of
dust. Keeping in other non-Lego cardboard is fine but I find that Lego's
cardboard is usually thicker.

I know not every house is he same but if you have a small room somewhere that
has only a couple windows or something you could put up several blackout curtains
and then store your sets their and as long as it’s temperature controlled you
should be fine. It’s what I do and I haven’t had any issues

We keep all our sealed sets stored in large plastic containers. This protects
the sets from sunlight, liquid, and dust. We have each container marked with
a number that corresponds to our data sheet, so we know which tub each set is
in. Most of the tubs we have, stack easily and will fit inside a closet.

Put your clothes back on! There is no need to keep sealed boxed sets in your
wardrobe. The box will protect the parts inside from sunlight and dust.

The sturdy, outer brown boxes are good for protecting the more delicate, inner
decorated boxes. If you plan to sell the sets sealed, the condition of the box
matters.

The Lego Box itself was covered with dust and some prints on the boxes even faded
because of exposure to the sun! It all happened in two years of time!

You can wipe dust off with a dry cloth. And it is best not to store boxes in
bright sunlight.

not in direct bright sunlight, not even near the windows, however, without curtains,

If you’re talking about shipping stickers, those are generally thermic-printed
and fade even when stored in a Swiss bank safe.

I'm very surprised. I have boxes from just about every decade going back
to 1970s on some shelving and there is barely any fading to the box art. We get
bright enough sun in the UK that they will fade if left on a windowsill in indirect
light, but not if they are only in indirect light.

But if you do, then cover them with a blanket of tarp or box.

You can give a test. Of course they didn't fade completely. The one under
indirect sunlight was blenched a little bit but could be obviously seen with
naked eyes. Another identical set kept in the wardrobe was still with sharp color.

My bad, it was three years.

So if it is an issue, buy curtains or use UV film on your windows where you are
displaying the boxes.
