Part 40938, the hair to Rex is always dark brown, but in set 70849-1 it's
listed as reddish brown.

Couldn't get my submission working probably because I just couldn't figure
out the catalog entry.

it looks like it's just a standard "brick" in the inventory and not
attached to any specific figure. probably just an alternate hair for emmet or
something

The Rex figure in set 40938 does contain the dark brown hair:

Minifig No: tlm209 Name: Rex Dangervest - Angry / Confused with Jet Pack
*
tlm209 (Inv) Rex Dangervest - Angry / Confused with Jet Pack
Minifigures: The LEGO Movie 2

The reddish brown hair is listed in the official parts list of the instructions
and in the official LEGO inventory for the set. Even though it is not shown to
be used anywhere in the instructions during the build, it is shown in one play
scenario on the back of the box. (see image)

I will add this information as an inventory note for the set to make sure no
one removes the reddish brown hair in the future.

Cheers,
Randy
