You have to buy something before you can get any feedback as a buyer.

| As it was already explained here, if you want to sell something, you have to
place at least 1 order and hope to have your positive feedback after that.
You need to completely understand the process before to be able to sell, it's
very important.

Feedback can only be left for transactions. Therefore you must have place at
least one order and hope the seller leaves you feedback (most do). It is probably
wise to place a couple purchases before selling anyway so you can get a feel
for the site.

If I had a dollar every time someone asked this...
I guess people are conflating feedback for transactions and feedback similar
to reviews on yelp or amazon that anyone can leave. Either way, it strikes me
as a bit dishonest that so many are willing to ask for something they didn't
earn: 'I don't want to follow the rules as written, so help me get around
the system please!' Of course, no harm meant! It's all just a big misunderstanding.
Sigh...

I depends. In most cases, I think aspiring sellers simply don't understand
how the feedback system works, hence the reason why the one positive feedback
requirement was implemented in the first place. But others try to deliberately
circumvent this requirement by asking in the forum:

As far as Help pages go, the New Seller Verification page is clearly written
and up to date. However, I think one word needs to be changed. 'You can
place an order...' It should read: 'You place an order...' The word
can might give them the impression that there is some other way.
Jen
Also, how would one place an order from an invalid BrickLink seller??

Positive Feedback
BrickLink is a community-driven marketplace. To join the seller community of
BrickLink, you must have at least one net positive feedback from a valid seller.
How can I get at least one positive feedback?
You can place an order from any valid BrickLink seller and pay for it. If everything
goes well, your seller may give you a positive feedback.
What happens if I have any negative feedback?
Your positive feedback score needs to at least equal “one.” Therefore, if you
have one negative feedback, you will need two positive feedback submissions to
meet our requirements.
I just want to sell my items. Why is this process necessary?
This process will help you understand BrickLink’s shopping experience and confirm
all your information for business transactions (including your email address,
mailing address and payment method) are valid and in accordance with BrickLink’s
Marketplace guidelines.

Something I wondered about here. I don’t think this confirms anything assuming
the seller leaves the feedback when the order is placed. Certainly not a valid
shipping address. It could be going anywhere if the buyer doesn’t actually care
about receiving it. The payment method also may not be valid depending on PayPal
internal workings. Some times they do that behind the scenes. It could be a
stolen credit card. Not sure about confirming email, as I assume that’s part
of registration. Of course disposable email is easy to set up and confirm.
I still think the system helps buyers understand the site as a whole, while not
causing significant delay. But wonder if that’s reason enough for this process.
It does keep coming up.

Back in the early days you could do it on ebay too. Some people used to leave
very random feedback for people they had never dealt with. andy46477 was the
most famous of them, leave joke feedback for many users, especially ones called
Becky.
I remember one guy who got 100s of negatives one evening when someone posted
about a user selling a home-run baseball for some obscene amount. The only problem
was that he left the letter s off the end of his username, and so the wrong guy
got hammered with loads of negatives.
