You need to collect them. Collect them all.

Yes, integrating the Price Guide would be fantastic, but for some reason I doubt
that it's their intention to do that.

I can't understand why the value of the collection is not a key feature.
After all, all the other platforms like Brickeconomy get the prices from Bricklink.
Bricklink is the number 1 source for the price. Why the collection doesn't
show the price or why no other data is available like on other platforms I
don't understand. Looks to me like a rush for a new feature that doesn't
offer much.

Yeah, I agree, it doesn't make sense. Perhaps it would use too many server
resources? Because I think it would only be good for Bricklink if sellers could
sort their collection by item value, since they'd be more likely to sell
valuable items if they could easily see which items would fetch the best price.

Too many resources for BL to use itself but not too many to give to other websites?

Doesn’t compute.

Right you are! I'm just guessing - I know next to nothing about how the internetz
work

As others have said today, it'd be wonderful to get an official announcement
from Bricklink that mentions what functionality they plan to add in the future
and/or why these important features weren't available at launch. It seems
self-evident to me that any user who uploads their collection would want to see
the total value and be able to sort by value, so why launch without those features?

I have no need to sort anything in my collection by value or see the total value,
so don't be so sure that everything you can think of is "self-evident". I
just need a list, and this is a good start. Kudos to BrickLink for trying to
do something new for its users knowing full well that anything they try to do
gets panned in the forums immediately. Once again though, a little more communication
through other channels (email, forums, etc.) would have been nice instead of
just receiving a "SURPRISE!"

Okay, sure. Not everyone wants to see Price Guide integration, but I'd still
guess that the vast majority of users do.

Yeah, I'm a big fan of the addition! And in general, I feel positive about
Bricklink management and the site, which is why I don't often speak up in
discussions. But better communication would be great, and I do wish this My Collection
feature had more functionality at launch so I could go ahead and start using
it. But without Price Guide integration and more sorting options, I don't
feel it's worth my time.

I think some are complaining that the "My Collection" feature is redundant with
the existing inventory feature. But the My Collection feature is available to
all members, whereas the inventory feature is only available to sellers, so it
is not totally redundant.

Software developers tend to start out simple and gradually add more features
as time goes on and they get feedback from users. I've no doubt more features
will be added as time goes on, particularly price data.

That, and for my own collection I'd like them to add more types of figures.
You can add Belville figs and some other non-minifigure figs but not the 4 HO
Scale figs, the 3 Modulex figs, any microfigs (game tokens) or nanofigs (trophies)...
I haven't checked Scala or Technic yet. Other than the missing figures, which
to be fair aren't even minifigs, I like this so far. I'm about halfway
through adding 1100 minifigs from my collection and the process is simple.

I couldn't see an edit button so I'm replying to my own comment. I was
wrong about nanofigs. Scala works. Technic, you can only access the first 10.
Modulex and HO Scale are out. Galidor isn't available, and I'm okay with
that. Everything else from microdolls to unikitties to the Primo figs is in there.
Even Salacious B Crumb and Miek are in there.

So now that I can speak as someone who has cataloged a rather large collection
on bricklink's latest feature... what are we supposed to do with this? Maybe
it's handy for insurance purposes but other than that, there's no pricing
integration, I didn't see any kind of "share this with XXXX" buttons. It's
just a list. Oh, and another thing!

I don't like how you have to either list CMFs as Sets which don't get
included in the Minifigure section or as minifigs that don't have their accessories.
Neither is accurate for most collectors.

To organize my collection on Bricklink, using Bricklink pictures. I never went
to the trouble on some other website. Future interface abilities are in future
plans but as it is now, it is pretty easy to move something from "my inventory"
to "my collection".

It seems you have a store... couldn't you do that in a stockroom... my point
is, why was this prioritized? Was it even on the roadmap?

Stockroom A is things I believe I will be keeping and don't want to accidentally

I am done with pricing. Stockroom C is where things are that I don't have
yet or don't have sorted or have something needing to be taken care of before
releasing for sale. I don't have an extra stockroom. I wish I had 8 more
of them.

I wouldn't want to use a stockroom for this. As it is, things that are supposed
to be in stockroom A and C often get accidentally sold. I don't want to
accidentally sell El Dorado Fortress, you know?

I don't know how that stuff is decided. But it seems reasonable that the
feature could increase the customer base, which increases sales for all of us.
People have been complaining all day that they can't add stuff up for sale.
Is it because thousands of people are using the feature that you didn't
want?

If I had as many stockrooms as I have wanted lists, I would keep a set in its
own stockroom from part out until I was ready to release. Then I would put the
whole set up for sale with a couple clicks instead of sometimes hundreds.

I might even part out sets that I hoped to find and just leave it there until
I did.

I don't understand why I can't have more stockrooms.

But my understanding is that some coders are working on the whole revamp of the
whole system and have continued to do so while other coders made this new feature.
You can't necessarily get the revamp done faster by putting more cooks in
the kitchen. I'm not a coder. I took a class 20 years ago and learned the
basics, but the biggest thing I learned was that I couldn't imagine the jump
from "making a program that could receive a date and output the day of the week"
to "making a program that has 100 soldiers marching around on the screen fighting
with swords while 100 more dig up gold and run some farms". I just don't
know.

If I were them I would lay out a series of goals to achieve and let my community
know what those goals are and then work to achieve them - aka. roadmap

I just noticed that they have changed the roadmap page to no longer show the
"roadmap", just past updates.

https://www.bricklink.com/help.asp?helpID=2547&q=roadmap

That is not any way to run an online community in my opinion.

And on special days it’s 0 steps forward and half a marathon back! (At least
for several hours before storm troopers take over the site a couple times and
move the finish line back half a marathon)

I just don't
know.

So, as far as stockrooms are concerned it depends on how it was set up. Like
let's say each stockroom has a unique identifier. Then if there are fields
stockroomA, stockroomB, and stockroomC associated with a user record, those unique
identifiers can go there. On the other hand, if you set it up in such a way that
you can store an enumerated list of stockroom IDs for each user, or (relationally)
a separate table linking user identifiers to stockroom IDs, then there's
not necessarily a limit.

No, because no one has explained it from BL.

Surprise! Another feature that nobody asked for!

What will the next surprise feature be?

I'm guessing... Diamond 2x2 brick category.

Lots of people have asked for it, definitely including me. I'm surprised
no announcement though.

Maybe they're waiting to announce it until we've worked out the bugs
for them

Since I am relatively uhhh experienced here, I'm happy to discover a new
feature while there are tons of bugs to fix - just as an example, the Refund
which doesn't actually refund but writes "Refunded" on the order page, argh.

And of course nothing announced.
https://www.bricklink.com/help.asp?helpID=2547&q=roadmap

And I don't receive any BrickLink announcements, for another reason: a bug
to fix?

Some days, it can be early or late - but I'm tired.

I normaly don't mind that they add new items but why do they have to change
the layout to? Why put this button on the place where the button was to add an
item to the inventory? I automaticly click on that spot to addd an new item.
Now I click constantly on the wrong button!!!

Changing the layout without any warning is really annoying. I am showing my
age in that I am apparently unable or unwilling to learn to hit in the MIDDLE
add inventory so keep hitting add to my collection.

Very annoying - please change the location of the add inventory back to where
it was and put the add to my collection somewhere else please.

On the other hand, it’s good to change your habits.  It’s good for your brain
to learn new things.  It keeps it malleable.

Try to see the silver lining

Quick check: more bugs than a badger.

No scrollbar, everything imported is listed as "new, sealed" (which can't
be changed) and doesn't trigger that "my inventory" counter in the set page.
Manually added sets do however.

If I were writing a article for the My Collection feature.

The My Collection button is going to be for the casual collector and not necessarily
for hard core sellers. This will help bring new users and traffic to the site
so that collections can be tracked over time.

That's it, that's all I have at the moment.

It'll be useful with additional features that allow you to track the value
of a collection or to know how many parts you are missing to complete a set.
Pairing that up with a want list or buy list would be interesting. Some more
useful reporting to group sets by genre or create your own groupings.

What i most miss in this is the ability to leave a comment where it is located
in my collection... (or indeed remarks about what is incomplete about it...)

Simply use BrickStore, free, open-source, files saved locally so you don't
have to depend of anyone, etc.

Yes, it was implemented to avoid fixing reported misspellings, reported bugs,
or adding requested features. If the programmers can be kept busy they do not
have to do any real or needed work.

It was also added to ensure the help desk has more work to do supporting this
feature, now that the time from request to resolution of tickets has fallen to
a mere 3 months.

To all who read this as sarcasm, sadly it is not.

Where has the view price guide button gone to for sets? I still see them for
bricks, but not anymore for sets and Minifigs! This was a very usefull option
(better than the my own collection button)!

Just my 2 thoughts.
