| Hello,
I am trying to submit a wanted list to buy and when I start trying to build a
list of sellers I keep being assigned more bricks then I need. When trying to
build the list manually from the least number of sellers I get a completion of
456% and far more bricks then I need. Even using the Auto Select option I'm
getting about 110% bricks adding additional cost. Can anyone help with what
I am doing wrong, I just want to buy what I need not extra bricks.
Many thanks

Hi,
Generally, it’s because the algorithm buys ‘in bulk’.
A seller can set a lot to be sold only in a quantity multiple of N. Those lots
are shown with a ‘xN’ (so, ‘x10’ or ‘x100’). They are generally cheaper than
buying pieces one by one (e.g. if you need 6 parts, it’s cheaper to buy 10 parts
in a x10 lot than 6x1 parts)… but that also mean you buy more pieces than what
you really need.
There’s not much solution to that but to check all the ‘pre-carts’ to see what
parts are bought in bulk / too many.
Then, if that bothers you, the only solution is to least-favorite the store(s),
at least temporarilly, and restart.
Another solution is to ‘help’ Auto-select by selecting a few stores by hand.
Also, beware, because even with 456%, there can still be missing parts!
For that, on the Buy page (the one with auto-select), use the Wanted Items tab
((2) on the first pic here: https://www.bricklink.com/help.asp?helpID=2445 ).
Your parts will be shown on the left and you’ll easily see which parts a store
has by clicking on the store’s line (but not on its name!).
There’s also options to hide the parts that are bought and those that aren’t
bought will remain.
