| Hi Bricklink,
I know people buy them for bigger/vintage/high priced/specialty sets but is there
any sense in me keeping a bunch of newer "normal" instructions for sets in the
$20-$80 price range? Do they appreciate in value enough to warrant me keeping
them long term? They are starting to add up and I have limited space. Maybe there's
only certain themes I should keep? Sorry if this has already been asked.
Thanks for the feedback,

I don't buy or sell instructions so I am by no means an expert in this regard
but I would only consider keeping instructions for the most rare and/or valuable
sets (i.e., Star Wars Ultimate Collector Series sets, modular buildings, old
vintage retired stuff, etc). Most people are not willing to pay for normal, run-of-the-mill
instruction booklets when they can download a PDF instruction manual from LEGO.com
for free.

I totally forgot about the PDF instructions! Selling them for a few cents doesn't
seem worth it. Looks like my recycling will be extra full this week

I tried at the very beginning when I started my store. I sold only one or two
a year, and then only from either older/retired sets or the very large sets.
To me it did not make sense to continue, the amount of space, organization, inventory
and weight/shipping costs - did not outweigh the benefit and margin.
Right now I discard them into recycled mixed paper when parting out sets.

'Normal' instructions do sell, however not all themes. I've noticed
that themes like
- Friends
- Ideas
- Architecture
- City
sell well.
Other themes not so much and Classic + Creator don't sell at all (at least
in in my store).
The so called "seller's tools" (that could give an answer to your question)
were promised to sellers four years ago. but we are still waiting for some form
of implementation of these tools. I'm afraid it won't happen in my lifetime.

I would add Christmas/holiday sets to that list as well, even small ones. Families
I know build lego as off screen time especially during holidays. So paper instructions
are definitely are nice.
As a buyer for a store, I would and have buy bundles of instructions on a theme
such as City, Holiday or Vintage

Personally, I can't stand the PDF instructions. They just aren't a printable
option in my opinion. They take a ton of ink to print and a lot of paper and
the parts lists are so pixelated sometimes that I can't make out what part
I'm looking at. I also think the colors don't come out right. I'm
always trying to buy manuals for all the sets I put together.
