| I've added store pickup to my store (currently disabled) as a new shipping
method. It has a group not used by another shipping method. But this method is
auto selected, as it has no cost. I want parcel shipping to be my default shipping
method, but there seems not to be any way to select the default shipping method.
How can I avoid, that "store pickup" will be selected as default? Customers are
cancelling, because they think, that shipping is not available in shopping card.

When methods are grouped the cheapest is selected.
Change the pickup shipping method into separate group with manual invoice only.
This way you have more control.

The shipping methods are already separated into differnt groups. The customer
can change it, but the default method seems to be the cheapest one (which is
pickup from store). So this is the only thing the customer will see in its cart,
before proceeding to checkout.
I think this help is outdated. The document ist last updated on 2015. The screenshots
are different from current look of the settings. I cannot see any checkbox for
"default" shipping method on this documentation or in the current settings.
I tried using Ctrl+F to find something like "default" on every page.

Shipping methods with instant checkout are sorted from cheapest to most expensive.
If you don't want pickup selected by default you'll have to change it
to manual invoice. It will then be shown at the bottom of the list.

The problem with manual invoice is, that the customer cannot pay instantly and
has to wait for our action. So a order has to be manually invoiced before the
customer can pay via PayPal. It's more like a warehouse pickup in our case.
We cannot accept payment here and we don't want pick unpaid orders in advance
and hope the customer will come and pay for it.
