Hi, I'm trying to insert a link image in the splash, but I still have a blue
border around the image.

here is my source code:

a href="https://1url.cz/jKCFK" target="_top"
src="https://www.imgup.cz/images/2021/11/14/MINIFIGURE7bad8529e7e35e7d.png"
style="width: 151.0px;height: 208.0px;" /

I tried to put BORDER = 0 there but it doesn't work for me.

In the "style" attribute for the "img" object, add "border-style: none;" to the
list.

The blue border is the style of the anchor element (a), not of the image (img).

So you need to change the style of the a element (add a style parameter to it).

It’s what Randyf posted at the same time I posted… and you say it doesn’t work.

You may try to add “important!”: “a style="border: none important!" ”.

Seriously? There's a keyword called "important" in html? My respect for
html has just sunk even lower

I see how it would look a little nicer without borders, but the main thing that
would bother me esthetically is that right now the top row has more buttons than
the bottom one.

First, it’s “important!”, don’t forget the exclamation mark!

Then, it’s not in HTML, it’s in CSS.  Totally different beasts

Good point: there’s borders and there’s outlines.

I didn't know about the CSS outline property. That must have been added after
my days as a web developer.

According to https://www.w3schools.com/cssref/pr_outline.asp , it’s CSS2, so
rather old.

The problem is remembering all that stuff when you write a web page once every
blue moon….

So it was around when I was coding. I can't believe I never knew of it. I
used the border property all the time. (shrug)

At this point, I think we would need to see what styles are being applied to
the image element, the anchor element around that, and the paragraph element
around that. You would need to use the developer tools in the browser to access
this stuff. That is the only way to see what styles are being cascaded down to
those specific elements.

I went into your store and looked at the code. The style for the border is being
cascaded down from a BrickLink stylesheet. This will work:

I do not understand it at all. : D blue borders will stay in my store

I went into your store and looked at the code. The style for the border is being
cascaded down from a BrickLink stylesheet. This will work:

perfect! thank you randyf

  Did you already try this?

style="border:0; text-decoration:none; outline:none"

yes i tried

Even with “important!”?

Maybe BL cleans the HTML to prevent tricks?

here BL writes this: (image)

but when I copy their code, there is still a blue border. Their picture + link
to BL but with a blue border

At this point, I think we would need to see what styles are being applied to
the image element, the anchor element around that, and the paragraph element
around that. You would need to use the developer tools in the browser to access
this stuff. That is the only way to see what styles are being cascaded down to
those specific elements.

I do not understand it at all. : D blue borders will stay in my store

AFAIK this is something the browser does. I think it's just the way html
links are rendered by default. Is it really a problem? At least users will see
that it's a link, and it gives UI feedback when hovered and being clicked
on this way.

I tried to put BORDER = 0 there but it doesn't work for me.

In the "style" attribute for the "img" object, add "border-style: none;" to the
list.

can you take a picture of me where to write it?

In this part: style="border-style: none; width: 151px; height: 208px;"

The border is probably being placed on the anchor tag then. Try this:

Conversations like this one are one of the things I love about this Forum.

I was just checking around for more information about this and noticed that my
store's splash page has two images. One of them has been given the infamous
blue border and one has not. However, I don't see any differences in the
text or code on the Splash page editor. Very strange indeed.

By the way, could someone direct me to where the My Images page is hiding?

Thanks!
Jen

Thank you! I never would have looked under that tab for it.

One is inside an anchor (tag “a”), while the other isn’t, that’s the difference
between the two images in your splash page.

When you’re assigning styles to an element through the “style” parameter or
with special/older parameters like “border”, it’s obviously only affecting that
element, but in a CSS (Cascading Style Sheet), you can define how elements are
style depending on their context.
E.g., you can write something like:
  img { outline-color: red; }
  a img { outline-color: blue; }
and all the “img” tags will have a red border (first line) except the ones that
are inside a “a” tag will have a blue one.

And it’s something like that that is written in BL’s stylesheet.

CSS can be defined in a “style tag” in the header of your HTML file (in the “head”
tag) or in separate files that are used/linked to your HTML page with “link”
tags in the header.

Perhaps the OP could use this information to get rid of his blue box?

Jen

They did evenvually get rid of it: https://www.bricklink.com/message.asp?ID=1313753
and https://store.bricklink.com/Roxyncz?p=Roxyncz#/splash

The problem was identifying which attribute was to be used (border or outline)
and to which element it had to be applied.

As Randyf said, as the “cascading” can be non-obvious and can be even more complicated
with the (over)use of i-frames, the only way to be really sure of what styles
are applied on which elements is to use the browser’s “developper tools”: they
show you exactly what the browser really applied (not what one thinks or guesses).

The answer is there’s a blue outline applied to the “img” element and it can
be suppressed with adding “style="outline: none;"” in said tag.

The previous attempts were educated guesses about what and where and they failed
to be applied and/or explained correctly.
