Nothing personal here, but I just don't get why someone who joined BL in
June 2019 and has a very small shop (732 items in 428 lots and an average of
8 sales per months) is so dominant on this forum.
It's great that this member shows his commitment, but can it please be a

I'm aware that my post may be a bit uncomfortable for some people and probably
mainly for the person I mentioned. Sorry about that.

There *is* an ignore feature if it really annoys you that much:

I know ignoring is a feature for experienced BL members. But a newbie buyer doesn't
know this and maybe thinks that this user's opinions are very important because
they are so ubiquitous...

It really sounds like you are insinuating with your post and this comment that
his opinions aren't important because of a small store and only 2 years on
BL.

That's quite insulting.

These threads are fascinating in a kind of shopping-cart-rolling-down-a-hill-towards-a-brand-new-car-door
kinda way. I am too far away to stop it, and the results will invariably be bad,
but I can't keep my eyes off it.

No, don't cancel, it has some useful information in it. I didn't know
about the "ignore" function. I can now use "ignore" for sellers who post sales
ads, either with very little inventory, or regular prices such that the sale
is moot.
So far I have learned 2 useful things today, BL form has an ignore function,
and my ROKU has a sound balancing feature (I had quit watching the "News On"
app, my best source of local news, due to the advertisements screaming at me.)

The is good news to learn. The roku commercials are at least 4x louder than the
tv show you are watching. I actually stopped watching roku because of it.

I know I'm not helping by replying, but I wanted to say I'm sorry about
the noise. It so happens that I currently have 17 open orders I'm eager to
see their status update, so I'm checking BL frequently, and while I'm
checking BL I might as well check the forum, and when I have something to reply
to people I do.

However, I resent a little bit the comparison between my forum verbosity with
the size of my store. I know seniority plays an important part in legitimacy
on Internet forums, but how big someone's store is, really?

Also, this definitely should have been a private message. I guess I'll refrain
from checking this thread from which absolutely no good can come out from.

Size of your store, absolutely shouldn't matter. By your feedback it looks
like you are more of a buyer anyways, and that's just as important to BrickLink
imo.

I understand you both, IMO it's just the forum that's to blame. It takes
some creativity from users to reduce their posts (by combining multiple replies
into one post, by waiting until more replies are in) and not all users are doing
it. Can't really blame them for it. For example, sometimes the forum is full
of 'spam' because someone decides to thank everyone who replied to their
post individually. It's not a bad quality to thank people, but the result
is that all topics for everyone disappear off the screen. To me that's a
UI flaw. I say time for a modern forum.

IMO, threads like these scare away new users from even trying to participate
in the forum for fear of ticking someone off. I agree with RandyF, nuke this
thread.

☝🏼☝🏼☝🏼

It's a tremendous PITA trying to navigate and search the forum after getting
so accustomed to more modern ones. I originally thought this topic was going
to be directed at me because of all my questions which may seem noobish, but
I had to ask them because of how information gets buried.

Forums like this one: https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/delta-air-lines-skymiles-665/
work well because I can skip around to topics I care about and see if there is
any new content. Meanwhile if one thread is blowing up because people are railroading
another user over his store policies, other threads don't get missed in the
wall of text.

Ummm...wow. If this wasn't from an established seller, I would have thought
this as a troll post.

If you want a break from him, just don't read his comments or ignore his
profile. I find absolutely nothing wrong with his frequency on the forums. His
comments are usually very sensible and thought out.

And as to nothing personal, something's gotta be personal here. You don't
have a problem with Sylvian or Popsicle and their frequency, but you do with
MrPetovan?

The forum has cooled down in the last few years. It used to me hot and heavy
with all sorts of great debates, arguments, and just plain nastiness. I see
very few of those from the early years left here on the forum. I tend to like
conflict and learn from arguments. In the early 2010s there were posters that
would argue that it was day when it was night, that the moon was made of cheese
and that aliens from Roswell owned bricklink. Ah, the good old days. My personal
opinion is that the forum is rather boring, but much more useful as a resource
about problems with the site, with inventories, with bad sellers or bad buyers
and what the Admins are not doing. The excitement is gone. It also seems like
there is a lot less posts now. Where is Troy and Foster when you need them?

If you want a break from him, just don't read his comments or ignore his
profile. I find absolutely nothing wrong with his frequency on the forums. His
comments are usually very sensible and thought out.

And as to nothing personal, something's gotta be personal here. You don't
have a problem with Sylvian or Popsicle and their frequency, but you do with
MrPetovan?

It is a troll post. Seems this member never wants to hear anyone say anything
that he disagrees with, so we get insulting comments, either veiled, or blatant.

OP always cancels their posts too. What's up with that? Why post and then
cancel it after a bunch of responses?

Although MrPetovan messages are more or less on topic, the sheer number of them
-- 827 in the last six months, 4-5 per day -- I feel it's just too
much.

Nothing personal here, but I just don't get why someone who joined BL in
June 2019 and has a very small shop (732 items in 428 lots and an average of
8 sales per months) is so dominant on this forum.
It's great that this member shows his commitment, but can it please be a
little less?

I'm aware that my post may be a bit uncomfortable for some people and probably
mainly for the person I mentioned. Sorry about that.

I am not sure what you are trying to accomplish with this request? I did a search
for his posts and I see nothing bad, wiered, anti Lego, boastful, or in any way
obnoxious. I find him to be a person who is just trying to be helpful to the
BL community so I encourage him to keep up the good work.

I noticed you seem to post quite a bit here yourself so I hope no one comes to
the forums and asks you to tone it done a bit. I know you have a lot more inventory,
a lot more sales and have been around longer but I dont think that is a qualification
for you to post more often than someone newer and with less sales then you.

He's very often one of the only replies to questions (because there aren't
that many unique users posting in the forums) and he's been extremely helpful

guess it's all in the eye of the beholder.

Hi!

MrPetovan posting in the forums makes him even more credible as he is an active
member of the community representing his love and passion for the hobby.

Unlike yourself, I've interacted with MrPetovan several times in the past
year in which I enjoyed. This is the first time I've heard from you, and
I hope it will be the last.

Hi!

It was just a reference back to the creator, because the creator of the original
post said "Nothing person" so I just referenced it back.

"Nothing person" means: I am not specifically targeting you. This is funny
because they specifically targeted MrPetovan. Irony.

Take care, - SB

Never heard that before. Is a cell phone message phrase? Or was it meant to
be nothing personal? I get confused with the language changes since texting
has started to ruin the English language and people have no patience to write
in proper English. My wife (retired solider and retired high school and college
English teacher), children, grandchildren, close friends, massacre English when
texting. No one knows when this "?" should be used, because they have to take
time to go to another screen.

you. A whole bunch of people disagreed and said so publicly. One person agreed

a few others in the heyday of the forums, and when Dan was still alive.

Why are you making this some sort of competition...?
(I thought making everything a competition was strictly an American thing!)

Seriously though, although I'm all for additional contributions to the Bricklink
catalog; and even a little competition in doing so can be fun; unfortunately,
it seems you are challenging someone seemingly solely out of agitation, and that's
not all that healthy IMO...

I won't tell you what to do here, I will only suggest you take a moment to
reflect on the look you are currently illustrating in the forum; and let you
decide if it is the appearance you want to maintain...

No, winning and sex is what American life is all about. France is good at one
of these two things also.

Here's what I contributed to the BL catalogue.

No one likes a braggart.

  I dare MrPetovan.

Dare him to what? I come to the forum to learn, and I've learned quite a
bit from him and threads he's participated in.

What I am learning from this thread is that this community is no different from
the world at large. There are trolls and a$$holes everywhere.

I like that you cut off your "My community activity" so that we can't see
how many people are blocking you.

Get over yourself, Mr. Petrovan has as much right to post as you do. Honestly,
I would prefer he did, since his contribute to the site and yours just seem to
be an plea for attention.

I received a private response from someone I greatly appreciate. This person
advised me not to pay attention to the people who mainly use the forum to make
their own point and have fun with it.

Is that not basically what you did with your original post?
