Why does bricklink list parts 61053 and 89650 under the same page, when there
are clear differences between the two? 61053 is the older one with closed axle
holes, released in Bionicle sets from 2008, whereas 89650 is a newer one with
open axle holes only released in a couple of Ninjago sets. I have received a
few open holed versions in orders when I was really after closed hole versions.
The distinction is made in a larger, but similar part; see 61054 vs 89651. Why
is this not the case for the other pair?

Because it was not caught at the time, and it was never split into two distinct
entries.

It is on the enormous list of parts that have variants and have not been split:

I will move this over to a Catalog Request to see if we can get this one worked
out.

Cheers,
Randy
