| Good Morning:
I have a Buyer that wants to pay with a MO and I have my store set for auto
checkout. But I also have it set that you can pay with a MO or check.
He tells me that he can not check out unless he pays with PayPal and can not
find away around that option.
Can anyone give me the directions to send him to check out so that he can place
his order.
Thank you in advance.

If your buyer is from a USA state that BL collects TAX or from EU or UK, then
he can only pay with PayPal Onsite or Stripe

While true, I thought there was some proviso for sellers with older accounts,
and this seller certainly meets those cutoffs.
The subject has come up in the past vis-a-vis US sellers who may want to accept
IBAN from EU buyers.

That’s not exactly how it works.
There’s indeed cutoffs to allow a seller to use other payment methods than PayPal
Online, which is the default and unique method for (very) new sellers: https://www.bricklink.com/help.asp?helpID=18
But for buyers (and transactions) on which BL needs to collect taxes, BL only
presents the buyers with shipping methods that use on-site methods.
Thus the confusing “seller does not ship to you” message when there’s no shipping
method left for the buyer to use while the seller has put the buyer’s country
in their ship-to list.
So, the seller can be allowed to set-up (or grandfatheredly keep) off-line payment
methods… but the buyers can’t use them.
It’s like when a parent authorizes their kid to have a basket ball… but the kid
is not to play with it the house, or in the basement, or in the drive, or….

Where’s your buyer?
If they are in:
— UK,
— EU,
— most of the US states,
then BL may¹ need to collect taxes (Sales tax or VAT) on them and can only do
that with on-site payments (PP Onsite or Stripe).
The system automatically removes all your shipping methods that don’t use an
on-site payment for these buyers.
And, no, there’s no way to bypass that, the taxes are due and BL has to collect
them….
(¹ UK: only if below £135, EU: only if below €150, that is, for both, below $180.)

| Thank you one and all. I never thought of that.
He is very insistent that we can do it without PayPal and skipping BlickLink
he is having a hard time excepting that I will not sell to him without placing
an actual order. I'm not jeopardizing loosing my store for a $30.00 order.
Or any order as far as that goes.

Good morning, Barbara
You might find BL's (Admin) reply to another of interest: https://www.bricklink.com/message.asp?ID=1213165
In particular:
There is no rule that says you can't sell what you have listed on BrickLink
some other way. Just don't be trying to convert BrickLink orders into non-BrickLink
orders. That would be fee circumvention.
And regarding cash or any other offsite payment method, we haven't decided
completely against it, but it's more work for us to set up tax collection
with such methods, and we'll probably only open up such methods for sales
tax orders if we feel a lot of people would like to use them.
That said and were it me, I'd just pass on the sale. Just my personal take
though, not necessarily how things otherwise could or even should be done, is
my point.

I have accepted a sale from a repeat customer who couldn't get Paypal Onsite
to work for whatever reason and just sent the payment directly. I just believe
that it's bad service and bad business from BrickLink to not offer people
options just because it's not easy. The only penalty I got was that I cannot
mark the order Shipped because of BL's infantile new payment status rules.
So, the order will be in my notifications for 6 months or so I guess! I am happy
to forward BrickLink the tax money from this sale as soon as they are organized
and professional enough to receive it.

I’m not a lawyer, I’m not an accountant, but I believe you just committed tax
fraud: you collected money that you say is taxes but it can’t be taxes because
you don’t have the right to collect taxes.
At the minimum, the money should be consigned with an indenpendant entity, it
should not stay on your own accounts.

Probably.
I forgot one other problem: the sale is not realized/finished for BL, so BL won’t
take its fees on it. It could then be considered a circumvention of BL (start
the sale on BL but finish it outside BL) or fee avoidance. Unless the sale is
not automatically cancelled at some point?

Just theatrically, would sending the TAX amount to Bricklink's PayPal suffice
and close the circle?
It would be a hassle for BL accounting and probably the seller will be punished
for that.

That opens up a can of worms, a huge can of worms. The problem here is when is
the seller liable for a account payable to BL ? Is it when the order is
created, or is it when the buyer sends payment, and the seller acknowledges receipt
? It intertwines the potential tax liability with the possibility of a NBP. There
be dragons, proud and arrogant dragons.

Yes, I am definitely guilty of something, but I doubt it is fraud. BrickLink
was told this would be a problem, chose to ignore it, and then refused to adjust
to all the reported issues regarding it, leaving us with their bad solution.
So, I have like $2 of their money or who-evers's money and am happy to pay
it wherever it needs to go.
Not everyone wants to (or can) use an onsite third-party payment method. I think
we should be able to accept money orders if we choose. I am sticking with my
principles here and not hiding my actions in any way. I want to pay this money
where it needs to go. They are not accepting it.

If you (the general you) buy something from out of state to be sent to you in
state for your own use (i.e. not for resale) then you owe sales tax on it. Of
course many people don't pay this sales tax, but whatever: my point is that
your buyer is responsible for it, so whatever sales tax he or she sent you should
be refunded.
