I was searching through the catalogue and found that the dimensions of the bucket
wheel excavator are different than what it says on the box. On the inside flap
of the box it says that the excavator is 72cm long, however on the bricklink
database it says that the model is 58.2 x 48 x 17 cm. I'm sure that the box
wouldn't be incorrect, but I'm also stumped at how someone can measure
over 10cm off the correct measurement. Is this just a mistake in the database
or an incorrect measurement?

The dimensions in the catalog are the dimensions of the set box, not the dimensions
of the built model.

Hi,

Thanks for the clarification, however I don't understand why it is on the
model page. It has the weight of the finished model and then the dimensions
of the box underneath that. Wouldn't it be logical to have the dimensions
of the real model there (Or none at all) and move the dimensions of the box to
the box entry?

Not quite, because sellers shipping the set new aren't shipping the model
completely built; they're shipping it still sealed inside the box. Therefore,
Instant Checkout needs the box dimensions so it can charge the buyers the correct
shipping.

What you’re calling “the model page” is actuall “the set page.”
And it’s the weight of the Sealed box, with box and instructions included, that
is on the set’s page, not the weight of the built model.

BrickLink’s catalogue is (primarily) to buy/sell sets and parts.  When you buy
the set New and Complete, you get it in the box with the instructions.  So the
dimensions of the box are logically on the set’s page.
Sets are very very rarely sold built here.

If you want the dimensions of built models, look on Brickset: they have the data
that’s on the boxes / in press releases.

A quick (not precise) measure of my built model with the bucket in a lowered
position:

29" x 11" x 15.5"

or

73.66 x 27.94 x 39.37 cm
