Hi,
I tried to figure out how to straighten up some confusing entries in the 8880
set inventory. It lists now 18 3L friction pins as standard and 20 as alternate.
To my best knowledge there is no version of this set that would do with 18 pins
only. My manual lists as follows:
step 14: 2pcs
step 21: 2pcs
step 24: 2pcs
substep 5 between 29 and 30: 4pcs
substep 6 between 29 and 30: 2pcs
step 30: 2pcs
step 31: 2pcs
substep 7 between step 32 and 33: 2pcs
substep 8 between step 32 and 33: 2pcs
total 20 pcs.

Listing 20 pieces as alternate is misleading.

I tried to fill change request form, but when I put in the inventory ID of the
standard entry, and 20 as number it tells me that I can't file the change
as the type and color are same as old. When I try to file a change for inventory
ID of the alternate part to change it from Alternate to Standard, it again claims
that there's no change to make and the entry is invalid. I'm a bit lost
here... How do I file the change right?

Did you see the Inventory note?

"Redesigned during production.
There are at least 2 different versions of instructions for this set.

Quick overview of redesign: A supplemental correction sheet for the first version
of instructions on pages 16-17 shows the original white steering arms (with axle
socket) being replaced by ones in light gray and the light gray axle pins which
fit into them are changed to black. When the whole instruction book is reprinted,
however, the steering arms return to white, but they now have pin sockets and
a special towball with pin (in black) has been developed to connect with them.
The 1 x 6 links have also changed from black to dark gray, presumably to make
the different colors of towball connectors more clear."

The alternates are to describe the two version.

Sorry, but no.
The alternates of this set refer to the steering arms, it boils down to:
Version A has steering arms with cross-axle sockets 6540b + fitting ball joints
2736
Version B has steering arms with pin holes 6540a + fitting ball joints 6628.
There are no other differences beyond the steering arms (leaving the color changes
of parts alone, they don't matter here, whatever the color you have, you
can still build it).

My issue with the inventory is about part 6558 black pin 3L with fricion ridges.
Both versions of the set need 20 of them, I listed steps in which they are mounted.
I am not aware of a THIRD version of the set that would be built differently
thus needing fewer 3L pins altogether.

best regards
M.
