A long time ago, when you clicked on "view cart", the estimated weight of the
items chosen by you was available, which helped buyers to know how expensive
the shipping could be.
Will that functionality be enabled again?
Thanks.

Some of us sellers disable that feature since it's misleading and inaccurate.
I mostly deal in sets and they will never ship by weight only by volume. So
no sense misleading things at all. And I am pretty sure even parts seller will
say that it's not 100% accurate in that parts have changed weights as LEGO
thins things out - so if anyone uses a new part to set weights vs older parts
- a batch of older stuff in the 1000s of quantity will be weighing a bit more
than expected.
Heck I used to have people wanting to ship a 2Kg set for 2Kg rating. Ah you
need a shipping box - at least .2-.4 Kg added on - and since by volume - probably
closer to 7-8Kg shipping weight. NOW you can see the problems and it's why
I don't even put in a sheet of rates - too confusing unless you know about
cubing of sets/shipping boxes I have etc.

I like this idea but what about those buyers that contribute but are not sellers
- how would this system work for those individuals ?
Just a thought.

Probably the best solution would be to treat these something like VIP points
at lego shop at home site. The points can be then redeemed for either purchases
at any participating store, MOC shop or for BL monthly fee dues.
The way it would be handled from buyer to seller for purchases, would be by a
direct point transfer from buyer to the seller. The seller than would use these
for BL monthly fee reduction, MOC shop or other BL store purchases.
The reason I state that the buyer could use them with "participating" stores
is because some people want only cash and not point transfers, however, those
sellers that would accept them would in return gain the customer. The seller
could always set a limit that only an X % or X $ amount of points can be used
for any single purchase, to give the seller some flexibility.
I think this system would work for all the parties, buyer, seller and BL.
What do you think?

I'm not voting, just pointing something out.
Who will do all the bookwork for these points? Will BrickLink end up paying
someone to do it, or will it become another chore for the volunteer admins?

And what about those who already contributed massive amounts of work on the catalog??
Kinda unfair since at this point there is more in the catalog from prior people,
than being added.

| Heck these days a decent sites search engine will even handle spelling mistakes
sometimes! This is a pretty well exact match only and having been on the site
for 10 years or so now, it's always been the hardest to work with the searches.

I think "min 10" would be clearer. The x definitely looks like the quantity is
being multiplied and each 1 ordered is a package of that amount.
Of course the number is more than just a minimum but if they tried to order 15
they get a detailed message asking to order in multiples of 10. And it would
clear up the confusion where things like wheels are ordered in 2s or 4s
But what do we know, we use this site every day. What Bricklink really needs
to do is ask the customers (especially new customers) what they think
|
Exactly, those of us who have feedback above 5, can't really answer this
properly. Newbies have to tell us if it's confusing, and so far my problems
with it, are always newbies. And this time I didn't double/triple check
with them, which I usually do.
Hopefully something can be done to make it more obvious without pissing everyone
off.

Please remove the reference and link to the MSRP price. This is a new feature
that many have questioned. Although I don't think anyone has made a formal
suggestion to remove it.
I do not think this helps sales on BrickLink. On the contrary, as Tracy and others
noted, listing an MSRP that is lower than what the item sells for on BrickLink
could very well be sending buyers elsewhere, turning them off to BrickLink or
discouraging them from ordering such items here on BrickLink.
When I shop for LEGO online or in the real world at Target, TRU, WalMart and
other places, I have never seen any of these retailers list a lower MSRP alongside
their own higher price. Why in the world would they? It might make sense when
their prices are far below the MSRP, but never when prices are higher than the
MSRP.
My apologies, but I just don't see the purpose of listing the MSRP as far
as sales are concerned. It might have some minor passing appeal as a mere historical
reference for long discontinued sets, but how exactly does it help sales when
currently available sets are often priced higher here on BrickLink? Unless the
purpose is to bring down those prices? IMO, any usefulness in listing the MSRP
as a mere reference is greatly outweighed by the potential negative affect on
sales, turning off of buyers, and creating disputes between buyers and sellers
as to why a seller is charging more than the MSRP.
Profit is not a sin. It makes commerce possible. And it makes buyers able to
easily get what they want.

Voted to remove it. I don't know why they put it on. Of all the things they
could or should implement to improve the site. Why they wasted effort adding
MSRP is beyond me.

The silliest thing is this is comparing/showing apples and oranges. Some MSRP
prices include taxes, others don't which just makes it even that less usefull
and more a confusion!!

| And as per any site in the world - that ships - it's always called shipping
& handling. We add 3-6$ to any raw shipping cost to cover boxes/tapes/worms
etc, and it's pretty darn close since we DO NOT TRUST recycled boxes, they
fall apart way too much, evidenced by the amount of shipments I receive, retaped
by the post office!! Then we also do a currency and paypal conversion on that
amount, to make sure we cover all our fees. So you can't just say shipping
has to be RAW COST of shipping. Shipping & Handling is the standard/norm.

| But how the heck do you handle 'volume' based shipping. Most countries
for airmail have gone to volume based shipping for 'LEGO sets' since
they are light/bulky items. It totally depends on the outer box size - not the
weight!!
Totally destroys any automatic shippig I know of unless I just charge them as
though they were individually shipping items.
At the point bricklink puts in place forced/automatic shipping, we'll probably
just drop off the site, I can't afford to lose money on shipping.

| That would really help, when doing things like 4 shipping invoices.
Tight box packing vs say Bubble padded
AND
GRound vs air rates.
TOO often people only read one email, assuming the other is a duplicate or something
and then end up doing multiple paypal payments etc. REALLY annoying.
