Make a search with a list of bricks possible.
If you have a list of brick codes, it would be very helpful to find the store
that owns the entire list or has the largest number of them.
Thanks for your attention.

You mean something like a Wanted List that already exists?

Just in case it wasn't clear-I have no problem with the taxes. I have a
problem that Bricklink won't allow me to complete a transaction with many
stores at the moment. I do a fair amount of bricklink buying to put it mildly.

It is not Bricklink it is the SELLERS you are choosing. Bricklink is following
the law.

If you don't want to pay your sales taxes to the great state of Massachusetts
then I suggest you use your democratic rights to elect legislators who will change
the law.
Or, you could move to a different jurisdiction that doesn't charge sales
tax.

I heard the Bahamas are pleasant this time of year.

Sand + LEGO equals scratches.

So you want them to break the law just for you? It is required for Bricklink
to collect sales tax. The sellers are the ones who haven't updated their
policies not Bricklink. Why don't you message the sellers telling them what
they need to do. Be part of the solution not part of the problem.

Since it was only a couple days before April 1st, we decided to start organizing
the pieces by the new changes that were going to be done April 1st. https://www.bricklink.com/help.asp?helpID=2487

Now today, I notice that a ton of them say not approved, including many that
made sense. So is there a reason?

When Russell posted that very confusing message (to me as well as to the catmins
themselves) saying things may or may not get approved by April 1st, I realised
it'd be a mess... :/ The idea was that the 6 things directly listed in the
newsletter would certainly be approved, and the rest was going to be decided
sometime later on and may or may not make it in the April update.

If I recall right, for some reason Bricklink believes it is better to do little
bits at a time, so the other things will be approved later. Don't really
understand this logic, it just sounds like a recipe for confusion to me. IMO
it's way better to do major updates in one go...

Actually I wish the entire catalog revamp (this project started last year, will
last maybe another year) was just released in one update once it is properly
finished (and announced properly in advance). After so many years of working
with the catalog as it is, what is a few more months working with it? Just my
2 cents.

Maybe they are worried about the spaghetti code becoming so corrupted it would
bring down the site if they changed too much at once? Even when Daniel was alive
and made some changes it would break things and he wrote the original code.
Smaller changes means less to check and figure out if something goes wrong.
Yes it would be nice to have everything changed at once, but if it brought the
whole site down, well that might upset 1 or 2 people. Maybe 3 if it was the
right day.

Does that mean I have to submit a separate request for each and every Sloped
Legs?

Yes, it does mean that.

or can I just submit one part as an example of how they all need to be changed?

Start with one request to show us what you have in mind. We'll contact you
if it can't be approved. If it is approved, you're cleared to request
updates to the rest of the items you'd like to change.

Yes that was my issue as I don't mind going to the trouble of finding them
all and submitting the requests but I'd rather not spend a lot of time only
to find they all get rejected!

Therefore starting with this as an example:-

Part No: 3678bpb027 Name: Slope 65 2 x 2 x 2 with Bottom Tube with Minifigure Dress / Skirt / Robe, White Panel with Black and Gold Trim Pattern
*
3678bpb027 Slope 65 2 x 2 x 2 with Bottom Tube with Minifigure Dress / Skirt / Robe, White Panel with Black and Gold Trim Pattern
Parts: Slope, Decorated

My request would simply be to put the word 'Minifigure' in front of the
word Slope and that is how I will request it unless you feel the word 'Minifigure'
would be better placed further along in the description?

How about "Slope 65 2 x 2 x 2 with Bottom Tube with White Inset with Black and
Gold Trim Minifigure Dress Pattern"? The ordering would remain the same, but
"Minifigure" would be a searchable keyword.

Also, per title-optimisation, a better name would be: "Slope 65 2 x 2 x 2 with
Bottom Tube, White Inset with Black and Gold Trim Minifigure Dress Pattern".

Is it just me or does "with white inset" bring to mind a dual molded part instead
of a printed part? I

When building a Wanted List if you use the part number we shouldn't have
to pick a part category.

I have also asked for this in discussions with the other admins. I believe it
will happen.

Okay cool what about also splitting beards/moustaches from the rest of the bodywear
in the same way hair was removed from headgear as it always feels a bit weird
when your looking for wearable items like armour and capes only to find beards
popping up amongst them?

Are you sure you're not just splitting hairs?

  Hi

I have just accidentally ordered a set from a seller, because it wasn't clear
that I was about to place the order.

On Amazon, there is a final page which lists the total order amount including
shipping fees. I was trying to get to the Bricklink equivalent of this page so
that I could see how much delivery would cost, but before I knew it I had an
order confirmation number and so-on.

The fact that the order was about to be placed should be made a *lot* clearer,
especially for new users such as myself.

I managed to send a cancellation request about one minute after placing the order
- let's hope the seller is ok with it

Thanks in advance

Richiethom

If you are paying attention to what you are doing and reading what is going on
it is clear. Don't expect everything to be like Amazon.

I'm sorry, but that's laughable in practice on this platform.
Images from the Lego website are used all the time to add new catalog items (especially
items that aren't officially released yet - see catalog for pending items).
I don not believe for a second that the contributor asked permission to Lego
to use their images.
It should not matter where someone is getting the images from, it is an IPR violation
in any case.

So I agree with you in theory, but in reality if you should oblige any catalog
addition to show pictures taken by the contributor himself you'd have to
wait weeks if not months before someone parts out a set and feel like doing the
effort of taking pictures of all the new items and adding them to the catalog.
If I take a look at the main catalog contributors I don't see a lot of big
sellers among them (as they probably don't have the time for this).

I mean to say that I understand the practice of using a random image of a Lego
item as they are usually readily available in bulk on the Internet, most of them
without clear mention of the copyright holder.
Side discussion: in how far can someone be a copyright holder of a picture of
an item on which he has no copyright, like a Lego item? You might laugh at this,
but such has cases have already been tried at court.

Anyhoo, such poorly rendered and basically ugly pictures should never be a part
of our catalog. I dare say that by today's standards our catmins wouldn't
allow such an image to be used in the first place.

There are plenty of fan sites who get advanced copies of sets for reviews and
promotions. Maybe someone from Bricklink should reach out to them and see if
they would be accomidating to submit pictures for catalog use.

Yep, that is a good one if not a really good one!

I agree with you.
I see a lot of chewed on legs, plain and decorated, it should be nice if you
can replace them for a lower price than a complete assembly.

In fact, there is no reason at all why arms and hands can be sold apart while
decorated legs cannot be sold separately.
And if someone makes up a reason it would be valid for the legs too.

Maybe they are next, but I really hope not.

And it’s clear I’m saying “official colour description” is not far from “official
part description” so why stop at the colours?  Part names are as visible as the
colours on S@H or Brickset.

First, Design IDs are visible, and searchable if they are not used as the primary
BL ID.  Element IDs are searcheable.
Then, “colours, Design IDs, Element IDs, but not part names,” why?

SylvainLS you may be very knowledgeable on the subject of Lego and you may be
a forum moderator because of that good knowledge (among other things) but you
don’t sell Lego, you don’t have to sort, organise and inventory that Lego for
selling purposes, you don’t have to locate parts and pick orders, you don’t have
to use Bricklink as a reference source to buy parts for stock, You don’t have
to worry about customers being able to correctly identify and locate what your
trying to sell in your store, you don’t have to accommodate returns or refunds
when a customer expects one thing but receives something else and you don’t have
to worry about receiving negative feedback because of these kinds of misunderstandings
and catalog mis-matches?

Therefore as a seller that does have to worry about these things I can just tell
you that whilst the official Part descriptions you mention are not necessary
on Bricklink a clear understanding between a newbie customer and a seller about
the exact colour they think they’re ordering is in my opinion essential likewise
clearly displayed element I.D’s and Design I.D’s I think are also essential and
yes fortunately it seems that much of the good work on this front is already
being added by the catmins for which I am grateful however it would be helpful
if all these references were displayed in the primary spot for instance in this
minifig part breakdown:-

https://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemInv.asp?M=sw0246

The Black Epaulette looks good with Design I.D 2526 clearly displayed but the
Bandana and Legs should also be displayed with the correct Design I.D and yes
you can click into each of the parts to find these other references but additional
clicks are not ideal for buyers and sellers who I expect more commonly use Lego
I.D’s

Most buyers now have 0 clue as to the LEGO ID or official color names. If you
took a poll on LEGO brick colors from non LEGO fans they would identify most
bricks by Bricklink colors rather than official LEGO colors. This site was setup
originally by a fan before official LEGO colors were known, changing that now
would be a major hassle, you have seen all the attempts to change things that
cause something unrelated to become "broken" and require long time and labor
intensive fixes with people yelling and screaming about it, demanding things
be fixed right now. It's better to not change anything that's not broken.
It would be nice to be able to add more information, but this program was set
up with restraints from 20 years ago and again change is not always easy or popular.
People will always want better(in their mind) descriptions, but there is a limit
to what can be put there. Again what we have works for the majority most of the
time.

And what happens when these don't match? Some parts have different official
LEGO colours yet have the same BL colour, and vice versa.

It does'nt stop bricklink from correcting all those colours that can be corrected
which is the vast majority! Why for instance is Brick Yellow not even mentioned
anywhere alongside all those parts that are Tan? Brick Yellow is an official
description and so its imperative that those official descriptions are highlighted
and searchable within the BL catalog, surely?

Where else in the world is there a Brick Yellow color? It is Tan. TLG should
have called it Tan, but for whatever reason called it Brick Yellow. That doesn't
change the fact that to most people looking for it will call it Tan.

Sorry to resurrect this dead thread, but as a buyer I find this to be more than
an annoyance. For instance I am in the middle of buying many different color
tiles for a large mosaic. If I am purchasing some from pick-a-brick (thank you
VIP points) and some via rebrickable, it gets very complicated to track and account
for the different color names, almost impossible for some colors. There isn't
currently a good list that cross references the different names and color id
numbers (not one that is kept up to date at least).
Ideally each piece should be identified in the bricklink catalog with all 3 pieces

If you submitted one they might consider using it. But I think they have enough
going on to not add it to thir list right now.

to go up more. All new removed from sealed set and put away as there isn't
much use for them. Wish the other figures were worth as much.

Thanks to the members who reported the threads.

This has been suggested before.

Bricklink is a 18+ site. Kids are supposedly supervised by the accountholder.

It was a rare incident with nothing to see.
Text was clearly spam encouraging to not click on links.

Approving first posts doesn't help much.
Then it's the second or third post violating the rules.

Please keep reporting rule breaking posts.
A forum moderator wil cancel them asap.

It is insulting how you have minimized what happened.

This forum is open to anyone in the world, you don't have to be a registered
user to see the forum. Ban all the kids until 18 in the world and they can still
see the site without a login.

I was being humorous earlier. But kids today have seen a lot worse then that
before they find this site. And while I didn't study the picture in detail,
I don't remember it being any worse than prime time tv. IMHO they do a pretty
good job of kicking the spammers out quickly.

I agree with you about protecting the kids. But what about the adults that don't
want to be protected? Don't they have rights too?

  Hi!

Earlier this week I tried to contribute to the catalog by adding the stickered
parts for set 42076-1.

I watched the video that had been suggested a while back by some people here
(https://www.bricklink.com/message.asp?ID=1191009) and followed the instructions
in there.

I added the pictures in the right size, described the parts as best I could and
submitted them all.

I just checked and the parts are no longer pending so I looked for them to try
to add them as counterparts to the set and I can't find them. I imagine that
they have been rejected for some reason but I have no clue why.

Perhaps someone here is more experienced than I am (easy) and can explain common
pitfalls, or a catalog admin will see this and reply and explain what I did wrong.

I have stickered parts from a bunch of other sets we parted out so I want to
add them too but I'd like to be sure that they'll be accepted since it's
a lot of work especially if it ends up being discarded.

I don't know if this are all but these are approved and credited to you:

When sales and promotions posts are made on the forum, please have sellers disclose
all of the fees and additional charges as part of the forum post.

It is presumably also an unfair business practice in other economies to not include
important information in a promotion. Negating a discount through fees is sort
of important information.

I'm not sure I understand... if all fees are disclosed on the store terms
page, why does a quick 5% off post need to have the fees included in it?

Are you included shipping charges in that statement?

@Jean: Good relevant request even though personally I structurally ignore all
those sales posts.

@Firestar:

Because in at least one of the world's countries it is illegal not to explicitly
disclose this essential information in the advertisement itself. https://www.reclamecode.nl/nrc_taxonomy/algemeen/
#8.4 Disclosure of full address and all costs are deemed essential for distant
selling advertisements.

And indeed, if you advertise 5% off on everything, that must include the same
discount on shipping unless specified otherwise. If the discount is on the products
only, the sale post is in fact misleading,

which is illegal as well. That means that the majority of sales posts here on Bricklink are in fact breaking the ToS to comply with the applicable laws.

No offense, but...

The global stage of commerce is not mandated by the EU nor by any other specific
region in the world!

How can any rational thought expect all of the world's economic laws and
regs concatenated, be adhered to in a single transaction? If such a thing were
actually attempted, it would cripple commerce with conflation and disaccord

Who wouldn't want to hand their personal business decisions over to unelected
bureaucrats of other nations Let's not go down that rabbit hole of which
nation's law/regs are to be adopted and to what extent, not yet anyway!

Laws, regulations and taxes on this side of the pond, are created by those we
elect or have chosen to represent our interest. Hopefully it's the
same for you and others.

My point is simple, be more reserved with such terms as "illegal" when applying
it to the actions other members, as some are wont to do here.

It's moot anyway, as the global path that BL/TLG takes and expresses in their
ToS contract, is what we've agreed to. It's the site that is threading
the needle, in other words.

-popsicle

I'd much rather the limit on "sales" post be enforced. You can't dictate
pricing but you can limit access to the forums for repeated, redundant sales
posts. But that doesn't cure the phony sales posts. One thing that might
help is having the country of the store shown on the subject line or by the
user name. Right now I am not ordering internationally and would like to be
able to ignore all notices that I am not interested in.

Maybe you could call him "The superhero formally known as Captain Marvel."

Yeah, you might want to see someone about that.

You could be right in my case. At least Sylvain now has a reason, beyond what
I could claim or tell myself

I don’t know about the others on that top users’ list, but I have spent
a lot more time here in the forum since my retirement. I need purpose, and helping
out where I can while socializing, gives me a sense of that.

My time here is still mostly reading, though. So I'm surprised to hear/see
that I'm #8 currently.

Since the lockdowns I can’t do my usual hikes/walks, not without dealing with
the occasional fellow hiker acting as mask police, bummer. I've also enjoyed
in my retirement, helping friends and neighbors with their projects, which has
been hard to do during the lockdowns. I do find myself getting involved more
often here, lately.

I'm not, and have never been on any other forum or social media platform
of any type, so this has been it for me, my therapy or at least therapeutic in
a way.

I nonetheless could "see someone" I guess...

What people think and $2 can get you a Coke, their opinion shouldn't matter.
Do what makes you happy and helps keep you sane, as long as it doesn't hurt
anyone else. I backed off and went into a mini grey age(not a totally dark age)
for my own reasons. Just be you.

Opportunity to offer a discount on order or delivery

What is useful

+ If there were discounts in the store and the seller canceled them, then by
providing a discount to customers who formed an order before canceling discounts,
they will not be upset.

I doubt that would be a good thing.

If a seller could see the contents of their buyers' carts, then they could
also increase the prices of those items in their store, especially the items
that were popular but not yet purchased.

What if they could see lot and qty amounts and $ amounts but not the individual
items? If someone loaded up a high dollar cart and sat on it for a week or more
you might be inclined to offer a discount to get the sale.

LucasFilm was one reason for the change (especially from LG-LBG - the oldest
Star Wars sets use Light Gray and Dark Gray and have minifigs with yellow heads).

By that time the only color Lucas was interested in was money green.

a problem with removing minifigs from the inventorie.

For example:

SW0105: Lando Calrissian, Cloud City Outfit (Smooth Hair)

We do have this minifig in stock, it is new, but the cape is missing

We do not have an option to list the minifig as NEW and INcomplete, but the minifig
IS completly new!!

Either change the way we can add this to our inventorie (like sets) or let us
list them as new! It would be incorrect if we would list them as USED, as clearly
they are NOT.

just my 2 cents,

be cool and have fun!

Incomplete minifigs are parts. It skews the price guide if they are incomplete.

Remember HouseOfLogo (and what a real mess it was).

Whatever happened with them was in my dark time. Before their meltdown I had

yes that is why it should be an option to let the admin decide, take this recent

feedback he left the seller who failed to deliver items the buyer bought and

the buyer did not and it is obviously retaliatory in nature:

The retaliation came for the NSS charge. They shipped, missing item was refunded,
even PayPal wouldn't side with the buyer on this.

As it goes a rule not allowing retaliatory feedback should also be added for
removal of said feedback since as the rules stand retaliatory feedback is allowed:

Feedback you Received:
The following are currently the only valid reasons for which you can request
feedback you received to be removed:
Feedback you received contains vulgar language.
Feedback you received contains personally identifying information including your
name, address, e-mail address or telephone number.
You are the seller and the buyer has not paid. Non-Paying Buyer Alert has been
completed or the buyer has accepted the NPB penalty via NPX.
You are the buyer and the seller has not responded or shipped. Non-Responding
Seller Alert or Non-Shipping Seller Alert has been completed.
Feedback you received was posted by a duplicate account of a user who had their
membership terminated.
Feedback you received was posted by a duplicate account of a user who was on
your Stop List before the order was placed.
If you're requesting feedback to be removed for the last 2 reasons above,
you should contact the Help Desk before you submit the request and let us know
the original username of the duplicate account.
Requests can be submitted until the order is purged from the system - up to 6
months from the order date. Requests are submitted to the BrickLink Administration
for approval. If the feedback is removed, it cannot be reposted. Each request
has a status:

The definition of retaliatory is in the eye of the beholder. If I think I did
everything right and did not deserve the feedback left for me then it is not
deserved. But the other party thinks they are right and it should stand. This
would make Bricklink the final judge and jury of feedback. I look at seller's
feedback and the buyer's feedback if I am evaluating a seller. Some buyers
are unhappy at every little thing. Some sellers overreact to even the smallest
criticism.

All of the parts of the minifig appear to have bright green print, not lime

Which leads me to believe that there are two versions of Buzz and all his parts:
Lime and Bright Green. Which sets each came in I have no idea.

The bright green print may have come from the magnet gear set

Gear No: 852949 Name: Magnet Set, Minifigures Toy Story (3) - Woody, Alien, Buzz Lightyear - with 2 x 4 Brick Bases blister pack

852949 (Inv) Magnet Set, Minifigures Toy Story (3) - Woody, Alien, Buzz Lightyear - with 2 x 4 Brick Bases blister pack
Gear: Magnet: Toy Story

Those were made in China, I believe, and could possibly have had poor quality
control.

I have not seen a Buzz with anything but lime print, but all of the ones I have
came from the real Toy Story sets.

Weren't the magnet sets all glued when these came out?

I'm suggesting that until the covid crisis is over that BL puts an extra
disclaimer on the feedback area explaining that postal delays are not our fault.

It doesn't even need to be permanent. Just something official. They aren't
reading our terms disclaimers.

Open to any input on this.

Having the same issue - all my tracking is not being scanned anywhere in the
last week- the post office insists all packages are being scanned at multiple
points - all i see is priority mail is getting scanned and First class is ending
up in the Black Hole of the postal system. So today, I have started getting acceptance
scans - means standing in line with a mask in a post office. Am waiting for the
negative feedback and impatient buyers who cannot wait 10+ days for the package
to be moving from "pre-shipment" into a post office. I'd like to just offer
Priority Mail but the costs are still much higher than First Class , even for
Flat Rate. Not sure what the solution is but I have heard that the postal system
is like Christmas with much more volume and scans they would normally do are
not happening at all.

I am still getting scans on First Class mail. I am thinking is a transport delay.
And with the protests it may be adding another delay on top of the COVID delays.
Amazon has spoiled everyone with their own delivery fleet.

recommend to my clients that they advertise their scheme, and allow aggregation
of orders or backorders, IF they intend to replenish their stock in a timely
manner, though I discourage aggregation of future orders. Elsewise, remove the
advert;

Backorders are forbidden by BL ToS.

Agreed, it would require a change to the rules, was just citing my recommendation...

  […]
4. Lastly, regarding the buns analogy, I generally recommend that the client
"market" their products accordingly, and concurrently advertise, on the signage,
"X for $Y or $Z each".

Isn’t it a legal obligation to show all prices in the USA?

Not at the national level, it may be the case in certain states, but not that
I've ever seen... In fact, almost every place I've traveled, there are
businesses you can walk in to and there are no prices posted at all...

This tells the customer they can get fewer, how much they
will be, and discloses any "inflated" price scheme, which I strongly discourage,
though a small savings is certainly appropriate, similar to the tiered system.

The problem in the bun example is not that the clients don’t know they can buy
only one, it’s that they don’t want to buy at the higher price because there’s
a lower price, so the last bun stays on the shelf.

That certainly holds some truth, but what I have observed, more often than not,
is that stores sell a product for $X, then advertise it in multiples and simply
multiply the selling price, giving the illusion of a savings - it's
a psychological marketing strategy. In fact, if you go to most bulk discount
stores, it is likely that buying singles is actually cheaper because we have
conditioned the majority of the buying public to believe, without question, that
more is cheaper - extremely deceptive, but not illegal; caveat emptor.

I'm more altruistic and prefer transparency, hence why I recommend showing
both prices. I didn't mention it before, but it is unlikely that a business
will get even quantities, or maintain even quantities, and so when management
sees that an item has declined below the advertised lot quantity, they should
either strike the advertisement, or if there is an actual quantity discount,
offer the product at that cost savings.

James

When I open my store it will be buy 2 get 2 more for the price of 5. And if
I don't have the quantities for that it will be buy 1 at full price get the
second for full price. I guarantee I will sell more multiples than singles.

Even if not in the current bricklink setup this would be an easy addition for

Three strikes and out.

It's most probably illegal in all cases to add undisclosed fees to a "binding
contract" worldwide, so why is it tolerated here?

-R

A friend of mine shared some ideas about this with me. Seems logical and reasonable
to me and the main points of the discussion were not liking undisclosed fees
and this suggestion is not the answer to this problem. In fact, implementation
of this suggestion would lead to abuse and many bogus claims, increased work
for Admin, tying up inventory leaving it in limbo, and further similar suggestions
to address a variety of other seller misconduct.

What would preferable is to see instead Admin forcing sellers to accept buyer
OCR's
in certain limited situations - such as undisclosed fees - coupled with the buyer's
right to remove non-positive feedback he may receive from the seller for such
order cancelations. Perhaps also compensate Admin for taking time out to deal
with such problems, the seller must still pay selling fees to BrickLink for orders
canceled by Admin under this scenario.
Just a thought on this subject
John P

Very interesting, but I don't forsee a lot of support from sellers.
I would interested in selling a box added to the feeback that would include:
OCR made: for buyers
OCR allowed: for sellers
and of course both for both and it should stay even if a seller reverts to just
a buyer.
Also add a NRB(no-responsive buyer), sometimes you need a buyer to respond to
a question, yes a NPB is used for theat, but a NRB could again be added to the
FB page.
Also NRS needs to be added to sellers FB page, just to keep them on their toes,
to prevent abuse a NRS or NRB should not be able to be filed until 7 days after
the order has been placed, remember life happens and 7 days should give people
a chance to resolve personal issues that are preventing them from fullfilling
their BL duties.

The NRB and NRS just lets people know that they are not the best at communicating.
So that if you are a chatty Cathy they might not be the best for you.

While communications are not required they help make things go better. Seller's
remember that new buyers are putting their trust in you and even if you do everything
else perfectly, some people are put off from a lack of communication, and may
not come back to BL at all. And chances are if you don't respond to them, they
won't be shopping at your store again.

With the exception of Personal or Other you might be able to change or improve

Most of my least Favs are because of the following:
PayPal fees charged.
High prices.
High handling fees.
Large number of Neutral or Negative FB about condition.
Flat out jerks.

The first 3 could be worked on by a seller.

in the past. One of the points raised was regarding the current inability to
receive some sort of comment from someone who has Favorited or Least Favorited
your store. As a Seller, I must always be looking for ways to improve, so how
can I do that when I don't know why someone has placed me as a Least Favorite.

I know the commenting was disabled due to abuse of the system, so what I would
like to propose is a predefined set of choices and checkboxes so a Buyer can
simply check the box on High Shipping Cost, Slow Shipment or any number of problems
encountered. This would be done anonymously, unless a checkbox for Contact Buyer
was checked, which would reveal your UserID to the Seller. The difficult part
would be to put together a short list of reasons to make checkboxes for. The
most common seem to be:

Store Terms: Confusing, Fees, Other
Customer Service: Communication, Resolution
Shipping: High, Slow, Packaging
Quality: Condition, Correct, Packaging
Other: Other

These are all things that would point the Seller in the right direction to effect
changes. Store Terms, are they confusing, do they outline excessive fees, or
is there something else about them that needs to be examined. Customer Service,
is the Seller communicationg with their customer, do they satisfactorily resolve
issues. Shipping, is the cost too high, are they slow to get orders out and is
the packaging sufficient to protect orders. Quality, are the items in the stated
condition, is the order correct and was there sufficient packaging or were items
all thrown into one bag. Other would be just that, anything other than those
reasons. It may not tell you much by itself, but at least all the other items
not selected can probably be ruled out.

I'm sure there are others, so feel free to discuss.

Sure but we need to add:
Disagreed with a forum post.

Let's see:

I don't support customs fraud.
I don't support hidden fees.
I don't support fraudulent or misleading listings.
I do support the rights of a seller to make their own terms, and support my right
to not buy from them if they are not to my liking.
I do support buyers rights.
I am not a fan of lot limits, thou I understand them, and will follow them.
As a buyer I don't ask for discounts after I order, and I understand that mistakes

I can take a joke, and dish them out.
I don't support permanent forum bans. That got me stoplisted by a seller.
And I have never really released my snide side out here, I have seen what happened

I can see where I am such a bad person people don't like me.

What Lego sets are likely to be good investments

Any that people want.

Parting out vs selling an entire set.

Having people tell you not to open a sealed box as it will be worth billions
after 100 years.

If a sale is announced (that really isn't a sale) in a forest and no one is around
to hear it, does it make it a good deal?

Sorry I couldn't hear the question for all the sale postings.

  What is sealed

The past tense of seal.

  What is new

The past tense of know.

Can I object to store terms after I've accepted them.

Yes you can, just like you complain about the prices at the store in the car
on the way home, after you paid for it.

More to add:

Why aren't the forums as fun as they used to be?

Why do some people answer on the forums with shameless self promotion?

Mike, that would fix the problem of fee avoidance but it still kills the price
guide. People could still list items for 2 cents and charge 20cents for picking
them (some are doing this now!) which means they sell an item for 22 cents but
only 2 cents shows in the PG. Think if everyone did this....

I was thinking that Admin could charge 3% on Lego and 10% on other charges which

This will probably get me put on some stoplists but here it goes.

No Lot Limits allowed.
No Lot Charges allowed.
All fees must be broken down.
Any charges other than postage would have to be included in item pricing.
Order cancellation allowed without penalty if shipping is excessive, to prevent
these charges being added to shipping.

Or leave everything alone and let the smart buyers do their own price comparisons
and avoid stores with Lot Limits or Lot Charges or buy from them if they don't
have a problem with them.

I have bought from stores with Lot Limits and frm those without. Some stores
with Lot Limits have lost my business because I could meet their Lot Limits terms.
They lost the sale and someone else got it. That was their choice, and no I
don't contact them and ask them to allow me to bypass their terms.

Yes I know that they are skewing the price guide, unless everyone has to play
by the same rules it will happen.

In Terms and Policies, Rob_and_Shelagh writes:
This suggestion is a summary of my recommendations, plus input from others' many
private messages I received on this over the last few days that I would like
Admin to consider in the site upgrade.

BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION:-

The BrickLink site has always required its' members, both buyers and sellers,
to trade legally and fairly. This is an essential aspect of the site's reputation
which makes it an attractive venue for buyers and sellers to trade here with
confidence and safety. The continued success of the site and enjoyment of it
experienced by its' members both depend heavilly on this being maintained.

The site continues to grow rapidly and welcomes many mew members, both buyers
and sellers every day. The financial success of the site has indeed secured its'
future beyond the loss of its' inspired founder. In the early days, this site
was a small community and the founder members and early adopters clearly did
a great job in building the principles of the site and policing it in a self-regulatory
way. For the most part this still works today but, as is demonstrated in the
many threads recently, some (buyers and sellers) are falling short of those principles
and indeed the law! This may be driven by the vast increase in membership which
makes this place less "personal" for some and combined with this; the laws and
regulations covering internet trading become more and more complex as governments
focus on the explosion of such trading and their need to close tax loopholes
and try to protect their consumers from substandard trading and scams.

I believe the site and ALL its' members (except for any that come here to do
unfair or illegal trading) will benefit from a more developed policy on safe
and legal trading for both their own protection and for the reputation of the
site in general which should help promote its' continued growth and success.

The following suggestions are simply my thougths on "how" some of the issues
might be addressed taking into account the direct input I have had from several
other members as well as many forum threads over the years but some recent ones
in particular:-

SUGGESTION #1 - EXPAND ON THIS IN TOS:-

TOS #11 REQUIRES the following.

"General Compliance with Laws:
You shall comply with all applicable laws, statutes, ordinances and regulations
regarding your use of our service and your listing, purchase and sale of items."

Whilst this "covers" the site in demonstrating to authorities its' intent not
to encourage illegal behaviour, in practice it does little or nothing to:

1. Help inform its' members about what those laws might be and where to find
out about them. Many of the problems here (for buyers and sellers) are caused
by a complete lack of knowledge on the relevent laws.

2. Provides no penalty for breaking them which unfortunately is the reason why
some of the intentional law breakers are comming here.

I suggest changing the TOS #11 to spell out some of the specific laws that members
need to comply with, namely:

Customs - sellers are required to complete customs documents as required by law
honestly and accurately which, for the purpose of selling here, means declaring
the sales value of the goods as stated on the invoice and NOT misprepresenting
commercial sales as gifts.

Compliance with local advertising, selling and consumer protection laws - sellers
are required to comply with all relevent laws applicable to their selling activities.

Taxation - prior to listing any items for sale, sellers are advised to check
the rules in their country relating to any taxation they may need to charge their
customers (e.g. sales tax, VAT as applicable) and any requirements to declare
to their tax authorities any sales activity they conduct on this site.

SUGGESTION #2 - MAKE CUSTOMS FRAUD A REPORTABLE OFFENCE:-

Just as we can report listings that do not comply with the TOS, have a similar
funtion where:

1. Sellers can report (with evidence e.g. private message) to Admin that a buyer
requested a fraudulent customs declaration.

2. Buyers can report (with evidence e.g. private message or something in sellers'
terms) that a seller is offering a fraudulent customs declaration.

3. If a penalty is given, just like an NPB or NSS, a buyer or seller can have
feedback removed if it was given in relation to a transaction subject to the
penalty.

4. A buyer or seller has the right to cancel an order without penalty if subject
to a validated request for customs fraud.

Validated reports would result in a penalty ranging from 1st warning, through
temporary suspension of buying or selling rights, to membership termination for
repeat offenders.

SUGGESTION #3 - HAVE A HELP GUIDE ON SAFETY AND THE LAW

Which members have to declare they have read before they can buy or sell on the
site.

Unlike eBay which has legal resources in many of its' markets, BL has a central
Administration which cannot be expected to be expert on these matter in all geographies.

Perhaps we cound have voluntary "country Admins" for this purpose who would be
responsible for maintaining content with an opening statement relevent to their
market and a number of (official government only) links to any laws relating
to internet buying and selling in their country and the official taxation and
customs sites for their country. This must have a legal disclaimer saying these
Admins and the site are not giving legal advice and it is the ultimate responsibility
of the individual member to ensure he/she complies with all applicable laws.

SUGGESTION #4 - HAVE SOME FUNCTION TO PROMPT BUYERS WHEN BUYING INTERNATIONALLY
-

When you put something in a cart of a store not in your country, you are prompted
to look at a page that says something like:-

"You are about to purchase from a store located outside of your country, you
are advised to check if you may be liable for any customs charges relating to
importing this item into your country WHICH ARE YOUR RESPONSIBILITY before committing
to this purchase. Purchasing from overseas may also limit your rights as a buyer."

Obviously, this needs some more thought! I would not want this message for EVERY
item I put in a store cart, maybe just the 1st one for example. Maybe give an
option "do not show this message again" after a couple of hits on it within a
certain time period.

SUMMING IT UP FOR ME:-

None of this changes anything that is not the intent of the current TOS.

It is not to differentiate between "private" or "business" sellers for any purpose
of promoting one above the other, although for UK at least and many EU countries,
Gareth's suggestion on that would help keep sellers on the right side of the
law so I still support that too. There does seem to be some differences of definition
on that between countries which would need to be addressed further.

This is intended to HELP buyers and sellers comply with their laws and avoid
some of the risks many are taking now through ignorance of them. Being reported
for falling foul of a law or being caught not complying with it in most cases
carries penalties that most people would be pleased to avoid if given a chance
and informing them better simply helps to avoid that possibility

I would be happy to do more work on this if required as I am passionate about
keeping this a safe, respected place with trading standards that we can ALL be
proud of and enjoy.

CONGRATUALTIONS YOU GOT TO THE END OF THIS POST -

Thank you very much for your time!

Robert

There may be an action for this that is similar and I don't know about it, but
here is my random suggestion anyway.

I operate out of two locations, one location has my personal collection (home),
and my apartment has my store. I commonly visit home and need items from my store
at my apartment. I believe it could be nice to have the ability to shop in your
own store and place an order with your self, that way you have a nice record
of everything you want to take from your own store and it would remove it from
your own store in one action. OF COURSE!! you would not be able to feedback
yourself, and this transaction would not effect the price guide, it would have
to be a separate system. For example, you build your cart in your own store,
and on the check out page select "personal order" so that your "order" is not
technically a Bricklink order. I hope this makes sense. And if something like
this exist, please let me know because I will use it like crazy!

Henry

As I buyer, I will vote yes, if I get a some of good coupons.

should also be barred from using paypal in your store just because they can
pay using IBAN?

Saudi Arabia, Tunisia and United Arab Emirates

Hi Gareth,
it seems that there is some confusion on your end about the issue.
The payment method defined in BrickLink as "IBAN" does not mean "Bank Transfer
from any countries which use the IBAN/BIC numbering system in their banking system".
It rather refers to the standard Bank Transfer method initially used within the
EU countries and for some time now expanded to the SEPA countries.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Single_Euro_Payments_Area
The name of this payment method - in BrickLink still and commonly named IBAN
- has also changed to "SEPA-Payments"

There is no confusion on my part, please do not presume there is. Perhaps we
should suggest changing the bricklink description to include a note about SEPA
only. Being as presently it only states "IBAN" which refers to international
bank account number and thus implies that anyone from a country using the IBAN
coding system can pay using bank transfer.

This payment type is the most common way to transfer money between SEPA countries.

Says who? Please provide actual hard evidence from a reliable source which relates
to actual ecommerce transactions between business and consumer; leaving out all
the mum to child, bank to bank and business to business transactions.

The fact that the UK government thinks **

Please do not make political statements in the forum!

The countries you mentioned above are NOT part of the SEPA, and only using the
same bank account numbering system does not come along with the same (mostly
feeless) fee structure as within SEPA countries, in fact accepting bank transfers
from these countries is in no way economic due to the very high inflated fees
as these are *NOT* SEPA-Payments.

All the more reason to split IBAN into 2 categories. IBAN (non-SEPA) and IBAN
(SEPA)?

The sense behind not accepting PayPal from SEPA countries for transactions in
BrickLink is not only to minimize the chargeback risk, but also to minimize fees
for sellers (which always cause higher prices and/or handling fees for buyers).

You could minimise the risk of chargeback by simply not accepting paypal at all.

There's really no logical reason to use PayPal instead of "IBAN" within SEPA
countries,

Yes, there is. A very simple one that you probably don't care about. It is the
preferred choice of buyers, for several reasons, which don't really matter here.

Bank transfers have been possible in the UK for many many years, most bricklink
users in the UK choose not to pay with it, preferring paypal for its security
and convenience.

99% of my UK buyers pay with paypal, 0.2% pay by bank transfer, 0.8% with other
methods such as cheque or postal order. 97% of my SEPA buyers pay with paypal,
just 3% with IBAN/SEPA.

I for one would not want to write off such a large proportion of my customers.
But I feel if you wish to, you should be allowed to, not by choosing who you
can accept paypal from, but by choosing simply to not accept paypal at all.

You either want the cake or you dont, there is little point in picking out the
jam and cream in the middle and just eating the sponge because the jam and cream
contain afew extra calories.

What I still cannot understand is why accepting paypal from outside the EU with
all its fees is good enough for you, but within the EU it isnt?

Are EU buyers more likely to raise a chargeback than non-EU buyers? If yes, are
those chargebacks because of fraudulent buyers or chargebacks because a given
seller has failed to ship what he said he would, sent dirty or broken parts,
sent used items that were described as new, MISB etc etc and wouldnt provide
the refund he/she may be legally obligated to provide voluntarily?

Some chargebacks are done through haste or misunderstanding yes, that is a major
frustration but the majority I suspect are placed by honest people where the
seller has been at fault. I do not think it is appropriate to suggest that any
one nation or group of nations is more likely to commit fraud, haste or misunderstanding
without something a bit more solid than because some sellers want to save some
fees.

Again, nobody wants to discriminate anyone, it's simply a suggestion to implement
an *option* to exclude people from paying by PayPal who always have another payment
option which is as convenient as PayPal in *many* SEPA countries but avoids the
chargeback risk for sellers.

Again, there is an option to exclude people from paying by paypal, that is dont
accept paypal. Those overseas can still pay with Western Union (and probably
some others that I have forgotten about)

Gareth

And for a buyer's protection they have to start a claim before the 45 day mark.
45 days from the date of the payment, I understand it's frustrating when a
buyer files a claim and you sent their item. But they have a time limit, even
if they know you shipped it on xday before the 45 day mark they would have to
file a claim to protect their rights. Maybe they were shipped a box of rocks
in the slowest manner possible? Not saying you would but a scammer might.

YES YES YES

It should be:

1. "Withing My Country I Accept Payment By:"
2. "Withing The EURO-zone I Accept Payment By:"

Hi,
why to exclude European countries which don't have the Euro?
I got IBAN payments from Denmark, Sweden, Hungary, Norway, Switzerland...
There would be no need to accept PayPal from these countries.

Other than the fact that you want business from people who may wish to pay with

The name of this payment method - in BrickLink still and commonly named IBAN

This payment type is the most common way to transfer money between SEPA countries.
The fact that the UK government thinks on most issues that is is better for them
to cook their own soup within the EU (not only for money issues) obviously doesn't
really help to distribute more knowledge about this very simple money transfer
method and it's fee structure.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Single_Euro_Payments_Area#Misconceptions

The countries you mentioned above are NOT part of the SEPA, and only using the
same bank account numbering system does not come along with the same (mostly

There's really no logical reason to use PayPal instead of "IBAN" within SEPA
countries, except maybe for Brits whose banks haven't yet implemented the fee
structure suggested from the EU commission. Hence my comment (below) that implementing
a payment option which excludes certain countries/regions from paying by PayPal
would need to create a dedicated list as it's not possible to determine it by
geographic or economic region.

Anyway, implementing such an option would be complicated without having a dedicated
list of countries for each payment type.
Ronald

Where does it end, do we give North Americans the choice to exclude payment options
based on whether a buyer is in a NAFTA member nation?

Should US buyers also have the option to exclude/include payment methods based
on a buyer being in Panama, Ecuador or El Salvador just because those countries
use the US dollar?

Again, nobody wants to discriminate anyone, it's simply a suggestion to implement
an *option* to exclude people from paying by PayPal who always have another payment
option which is as convenient as PayPal in *many* SEPA countries but avoids the
chargeback risk for sellers.

Ronald

Gareth

This doesn't include me as I am in the US, but what buyer would want to give
up their protection of Paypal for SEPA payments? Just an example, a scammer
opens a shop in Europe, ships out a little bit to establish a FB or just hacks
an older account with perfect FB and loads in some great deals and then doesn't
ship after they have been paid. What recourse is there with the SEPA transfers
for the buyers to get their money back?

method, like with shipping methods. Please reply and vote if you agree.

Matthew

You may be forgetting this is a for-profit commerce site. Any transaction involves
the use of system resources that cost money. Even the original owner, generous
as he was, would not devote any code to providing a function whereby everyone
could bypass attaching a monetary value to the transaction, or negate having
at least one side responsible for paying fees to the site.

That's why it's a suggestion for a payment method - one of the traders has a
store and the other uses LEGO as payment. BL still gets it's fees from the seller's
transaction.

Personally, I wouldnt implement this, as I'd rather selectively trade rather
than accept trades from any 0 feedback buyer.

-Ruth

Yes, it shouldn't be a payment method that the buyer selects, but maybe like
an item being reserved in a store.

Yes, I really wouldn't work if the buyer could choose it. Someone could tie
up your stock trying to come up with a trade that works for the seller. Working
it out and having the seller make it a reserved lot seems to be working fine.

"First Name" "Last Name"

Except that varies by Country. In the US it would be "Town/City", "State" "Zip/Postal

Ideally the signup form should ask you your country first and then provide the
address fields need for your specific country.

196+ countries, and how many different ways of listing addresses? Sounds like
a nightmare to set-up.

So let's assume that a user is blocked for being under age. An unscrupulous seller
decides to take advantage of this and not ship the paid order from this now-banned
buyer. Why do you feel that it is fair to community for the buyer not to be able
post appropriate feedback?

I certainly wouldn't want to deal with such a seller and would appreciate the
feedback.

What stops the buyer from claiming that even if they received the order? An unscupulous
seller would reply that they sent the package and buyer is mad about the revokation.

then they could buy it and this would start a new transaction.

The seller may have to adjust the shipping if necessary and reissue an invoice.

The advantage would be saving time restocking and later pulling same items if
in a diffferent order.

The disadvantge would be....

Mix of parts not what someone else would want, would have to be discounted to
sale. You can always put it as a unsorted lot.

banned. But as long as we are polite, stick to the topics, and don't pollute
the boards you shouldn't get banned. I can't imagine why anyone on here would
get banned for anything other than being extremely rude. We love Legos, and
this should be a fun place so we should all remember to be kind to other members,
sellers, and buyers.

Forums generate disagreement at times. I see nothing wrong with that. It can
be fun at times. Some people just bring out the worse in others. Has always
been that way.
Here is one comment I got to day by e-mail:

"Hi John,

So sorry to see that you were banned from the forum. That's so strange, as your
posts are so supportive of Admin and BrickLink. And for being "snide"? Why you
of all people, and not the others who actually take their negativity to harmful
extremes? From what I see, your comments can be playfully sarcastic, but they've
never been venomously aggressive, as others have been.

Glad to see you back. I was wondering what happened to you."

Opinions vary quite a lot, even what constitutes bad behavior. Besides that
I was born snide. I told my mother on my birth "get on with it, it is time to
let me out, no more delays or complaining. Do you think it is fun in here without
any lights?"
John P

So when did you change your name from Snide to John?

Sarcasm is fine.

Sarcastic remarks targeted at a specific member are not. More so when obviously
trying to bait or get a rise out of said member. Especially if you have a long
history of arguing with said member.

This isn't rocket science. If you start, participate in or are otherwise involved
in a forum poop-storm then the chances are good that you are going to see a ban
in your future.

If you engage in good nature banter with your friends then a ban is unlikely.

Taking pot-shots or otherwise deriding another member that you have an adversarial
relationship with is not wise.

Jumping in to a heated conversation just to "stir the pot" is also not wise.

Troy

Not that I am being a kiss butt or brown noser, but I would have to agree with
Troy's reasoning or remarks. The biggest problem on the forum is people like
to take cheap shots on certain buyers/sellers in the forum on a regular basis.
You also have some members who love to throw some kindle soaked in petro to keep
the fires burning.

Some members who think they are wise and all knowing because of their high feedback
(I can only assume that in my head) can throw their weight and opinions around.
This tends to get the mob going in the forum and than it becomes my I.Q. is bigger
then yours so I am right and you are wrong. Like Troy said it does become a big
poop storm! And that is sad when someone is trying to ask a question or post
a concern in the forum and then it gets twisted and turned into a worthless post.
Do not get me wrong and times I love to sit back and read the drama but the last
several days have been great being able to read real problems and real answers
to problems posted in the forum.

It is funny people in chat say they hate to post in the forum because how people
respond to postings. It is like a mean girl mentality at times. We all are geeks,
nerds, and dorks for loving Lego. Maybe we should think about how it was when
we were in school, no one liked being picked on or bullied. Well guess we are
now adults and should act like adults. That is my .15 cents and I am sure someone
will pick my posting apart!

P.S. Underagers are fair game!

Hey now, I wasn't bullied in school, in fact give me your lunch money.

Ha!

It's not even done like that much anymore. Now you have a student/picture ID
with an account attached to it. When you go to pay for your meal, you swipe
your card and your picture etc appears on a screen for the cashier and the cost
is deducted from your account.

Man what a rip-off, I have a 12 yo daughter, starts junior high next year and
gets the id, our SS just uses a code, but they do take cash.

Are'nt we living in a free world (well for most people then) with the liberty
of speech?
AFAIK we (and most people here) live in a democracy, WITH freedom of speech.
I can understand the reasons, when one is being 'grose', not when he/she expresses
their feelings or opinions on a certain matter or issue or even a another member
(regardless of the start of the thread). Is giving opinions really 'stiring the
pot'? IMHO NO! Yes one can respect another member more then another, but replying
to posts (regardless who they come from, or the reasons attached) is just a matter
of freedom of speech and no-one should be banned for that matter (in sake for
the US citizens --and other people in the world-- who died for 'liberty of speech')
as you state.

The reasons for being banned are well determined (I suppose), reminding a member
(or reminding the community) is a matter of respect towards the member (or the
community).
Otherwise, this is a dictatorship!

Just my 2 cents, Eric

Regards

PS with no disrespect to the community, neither the leaders of the community,
just giving my opinion

Eric,

Free speech is fine, but this is a privately owened website, their rules dictate
what can and can't be said. No one is forcing you to participate in the forums.
I can be sarcastic and irrelevant, but I do know when to stop. I am not saying
you don't, but sometimes people forget. Sometimes they are passionate about
the subject and sometimes it just gets under their skin. I would hope that there
would be a warning first, but the admins have the right and the duty to stop
things from getting out of hand. So far I think they have done a great job,
thou sometimes they have shown too much restraint in the past, I am sure that
anyone who has been banned might disagree with me.

Just my 2 cents,
Tracy

Would be nice to have the ability to make one or more wanted lists "public" so
that if a link was provided to the list other folks could see the list. This
would work similar to Amazon.com wish list in that others can see but not edit
the list.

In my mind, this would be a check box on the wanted list settings (and creation)
screen. Default would be unchecked (meaning private).

[X] Public List

It would be useful in facilitating purchases for gifts (like little Tommy wants
a bunch of batman minifigs so he adds it to his wish list so grandma can buy
one for him by viewing his list), and for facilitating trading because people
can see what the seller would like as payment for the trade items.

Everything else about the wanted list would work the same as it does now - except
that if viewing by someone other then the owner there would be no editing fields
available.

This could lead to offers to sell outside BL.

Talking about something you want/asking if someone has something you want in
the forums could lead to sell outside BL.

Take my recent instance. I asked for forum advice for a less than satisfactory
purchase. The general consensus was to contact the seller. Well, that didn't
turn out to be pleasant. The person freaked on me, here and in emails, about
posting an anonymous forum message. It became so f'ed-up that all I wanted to
do was forget I even transacted with them. This was by far the most uncomfortable
situation I've encounter here. Naturally, I'm afraid of retaliation, if I post
honest feedback. This could potentially be my first negative. I'd like to have
truly earned my first.

It may be lame, but sometimes I just want to be done with this site. It's just
too frustrating wondering when you're going to wake up to a negative.

Wow, and I thought I had pressure.

If you like, I will buy from you, leave a negative joke feedback for you then
you can get it out of the way!

I felt horrible when I got my 1st real negative (not on this store). I felt
I let people down!

After that, it got easier, and I found that some of the negatives are deserved
and others are just people who had a bad day or life and want to just lash out
at anyone they can.

Any time I order, I look at the negatives, and who left them. That can tip my
opinion, however if it is just one or two negatives compared to 1000x that in
postitive, then I know you are doing something right. Don't sweat the small
stuff, you can't always please everyone.

scratch, with 10 year 10,000 feedback members on the same equal footing as 0
year 0 feedback members?

Thor

I really just put this out there as an alternative to the 10-level of category
suggestion for feedback, given the main reason was that "neutral" apparently
wasn't very useful for most people and thus, really only two categories of feedback
are being used to cover a wide range of orders that make those ratings misleading.
Right now really there are only two practical categories of feedback, positive
and negative. My main reason for posting was to somehow make this middle, under-used
area of rating more useful and accurate and a real choice for buyers and sellers
as opposed to its current setup, which hardly anyone uses. In effect we really
only rate orders good or bad.

Perhaps we could make the "neutral" category more useful if it was renamed to
be something more useful in terms of ranking order satisfaction.

Maybe the way to go is to rate order satisfaction for buyer and seller like this:

- Poor (not acceptable)

- Mediocre (formerly the inaccurate "neutral" rating)

- Good (happy with the order experience)

With such a setup there would be no conversion needed, and it makes the middle
ranking category a lot omore useful as opposed to "neutral". There is no sense
to "neutral" and that's probably why we always see people asking for a better
feedback system, they just don't get what the "neutral" is about, and the fact
it's almost never used proves two things: 1) people don't understand it, and
2) orders are either bad, barely ok, or good. Not "neutral".

Maybe just the wording change from "neutral" to "Mediocre". I believe "mediocre"
would be a good word for the middle category, because it isn't either good or
unacceptable, it is in between, but it also isn't "neutral". Mediocre also isn't
inherently "average" either, which I think would be a problem to call it, because
most people's average order experiences here score a "good" rating. Mediocre
can be for those orders that do finally get filled but have problems, aren't
as smooth as the normal good orders most people experience, yet they aren't "poor"
orders that people get shafted on, or just can't resolve. Mediocre can mean
a barely passable order, a minimally tolerable order, an order that finishes
up ultimately okay, but had problems as it wasn't as good as a "good" order.
"Neutral" doesn't mean any of these kinds of orders. Not good and not bad,
there is no such order like that.

So really this might be the best thing, in order to make the middle, mis-named
category rating of "neutral" a category that is more accurately named and defined,
to be more useful to buyers and sellers who really want more than just "positive"
and "negative" and ignore the "neutral" because it doesn't make sense to them
as currently defined. Orders are not "Neutral". Renaming this to "mediocre"
might be the best way to go, as it doesn't even add one extra ranking level,
it requires no conversion, and changes "neutral" from a category most people
don't use and may not feel reflects an order, to "mediocre", which turns that
into a viable third choice for rating an order. All that is required is a definition
change and changing the word "neutral" to "mediocre" on a few screens.

If someone wants to have Admin cancel my former suggestion that added an additional
cateogry, that's fine, as this suggestion would be a lot easier to do, and serve
the same purpose, to make the middle ranking category actually mean something
tangible to buyers and sellers and more accurately describe an order that is
"better than poor, but less than good". This is an order that isn't "neutral".

Maybe OK or alright instead of mediocre. And excellant instead of good? Or
even:
Poor
Good
Excellent

That would not upset the current rankings. Thou you would start to see a lot
more good, until the people got upset and started ranting in the forums.
No order is just "neutral". And this might be where this is throwing off people
from using this category more often to more accurately rate some of their orders.
