I stopped contributing to the site (at the level that I was), due to some frustration
with the new management/ownership, so you have my sympathy.

I'll occasionally submit a weight, but that's about it.

If BrickLink keeps going at the rate it is going by forcing out its top contributors,
BrickLink won't have much of a community of volunteers left to do anything
for it. The extremely slow rate of new inventories being submitted for approval
to the catalog over the last two years as well as the loss of many major catalog
contributors to other sites is already indicative of this trend.

Please "downgrade" from the recent update to the wanted list and give us back
the number of "needed" lots (eg: those where the have field is not fulfilled).

Ideally we should be able to not only see the number of needed lots, but also
the quantity of parts still required for each wanted list.

P.S. If someone were to analyse what functions each feature offers before designing
an upgrade, I'm reasonably confident that there will be less complaints about
missing features.

Measure twice, cut once vs. measure once, cut it too short and have to start
all over.

P.P.S. Tutorials on how to use new features would also help. Maybe info/features
in each upgrade are available that aren't obvious to all of us.

Sometimes I wish we had an edit feature.

The site map on the old My BL page was quite handy and must more condensed than
the full site map.

I would like to suggest that it be added to the new page in some form. Maybe
a button that when clicked opens/expands the old map without changing pages,
if possible.

Also, the new page is nice to look at, but it has too much empty space leading
to unnecessary scrolling. Only half of the page is displayed on a 22" monitor
w/o scrolling, whereas before 3/4 of the page was displayed with 100% of the
major info on one.

Please consider adding the option to add another column to the orders placed
page. I suspect that many of us using desktops have room to see the tracking
numbers next to our other selected options.

There's something about the "Required" feature on wanted lists that doesn't
make sense to me. When I select "required" for a particular item, the system
doesn't factor in the quantity.

On my current list I need 2 piece of a rare(ish) part, so I select "required,"
but it still shows results of only 1 piece.

Is this working as intended? I would certainly like to be able to have some
control over quantity.

I deleted my vote, however, I believe that bank transfers among individuals are
a path to unfair play. This is especially so when sellers charge extra for a
buyer to use a payment method that has some form of recourse against fraud.

This can even happen with honest people that don't intend to cause issues.
A seller gets extremely ill, coma, death, and is unable to ship the goods.
Unfortunately, it happens. I've read of at least 3 deaths, 1 coma, and various
other issues to BL members, since joining.

I will continue to use PayPal for this extra piece of mind that my buyers have
protection should something happen.

I just feel very uncomfortable with the thought that I got this far with my business,
and the road towards it has collapsed behind me.. the more open this place is
to everyone, the better.. a few percent more scams but a manyfold multiplication
of the market potential.

You took what I wrote and applied it to a completely different type of commerce.
My post clearly referred to e-commerce between individuals.

You're saying bank transfers are not in the spirit of fair e-commerce, but
here e-commerce is absolutely huge to the point that entire brick-and-mortar
shopping centers go empty, and almost all of that goes through bank transfers.

Voted no.

In fairness for security of buyers, I would only vote yes if sellers were required
to offer a payment option that allowed recourse at no penalty (fees, etc).

Over the years I have read many forum messages about buyers losing money due
to using IBAN (often in the hundreds of $, euro). Bank transfers don't seem
to be in the spirit of fair e-commerce between individuals. Registered businesses
may be a different story.

No, that is a hose nozzle that is already in the inventory:

In Inventories Requests, ajisan writes:
See part # 4697b Light Bluish Gray Pneumatic T Piece (T Bar).

It appears in the 60021 instructions (Book 1 of 3, page 4, step 4) but does not
appear in the Lego parts list and of course not in the Bricklink parts list.

I happened to see this part in the Droideka minifigure in set #75092 Naboo Starfighter.

Part # 4697b needs to be added to the parts list for 60021. And perhaps the
nominal part for chainsaw handle could be added to the alternative parts for
60021.

Incomplete listings that have sold can be excluded from the results. There's
a checkbox at the top of the price guide data.

In Suggestions, Roxxer writes:
I've noticed an issue with the price guide. Often times, the price guide
is inaccurate with sets because it doesn't differentiate between complete
and incomplete items sold. Often times sets without figures or just a small piece
of a set is sold that throws the values off.

I think that it would be a good idea to mark sets that are sold as incomplete
on the price guide and for these sales not to reflect the 6 month averages.

Good afternoon

I think the minifg cas102 (Black Falcon - Light Gray Legs with Black Hips, Dark Gray Chin-Guard) should include quiver, as other similar figures do (eg cas005).
This figure only appears in a set (6057-1) and in the instructions appears with the quiver. Thank you. Regards. Daniel

FYI: All of your changes can be done at once. Just alter the 'number of
entries' field to about how many you expect to do. Think you have about
10, then put 15 in the field to be safe.

In Suggestions, HPBrickhead writes:

I go to their store, and the message at the top is "Seller does not ship to me".

I can't help it, the second message hurts my feelings!

Is there any way we can make the messaging consistent with the actual reason
I can't buy in their store? (Country/Person?)

Wow, that really is a hard option to find. I won't vote on this idea, but
I can't imagine many people finding that tiny text link. The other routes
to it seem to result in a dead page (my bl settings) or broken link (help docs).

I believe this is the essence of why the feature was made optional years ago.
Voted no.

However, this does not mean it comes without consequence. There have been several
instances where I didn't order from a seller that chose not to display weight.

of course, you have right. But if a buyer see a weight in his shopping cart,
and that weight is not really correct, how you can explain problem to the person.
He see that weight, and it's correct for his mind.

There is, but they didn't make it super obvious. You have to go to the 'Problem
Center' link on the bottom of the page and click 'Forum.'

There is no REPORT button to bring it to the attention of admins quickly.

"You get what you pay for." Since I've been a BL member I've seen the
cost of living skyrocket, yet BL has kept the fee structure the same. Be careful
what you ask for.

BL needs a dose of professionalism. If what I've read from the forum over
the last few days is correct, BL is a technology company whose tech is failing
left and right. Clearly 2 employed people are not enough. Tickets to the help
desk are often ignored, forum posts regarding errors and problems are ignored,
issues between buyers and sellers are not always moderated according to BL's
rules, etc. I simply don't believe that BL doesn't earn enough to provide
a genuine and effective increase in the level of customer support being offered.

But not good for buyers due to all the sellers that misuse superlots. Voted
no.

Superlots is a broken concept that needs to be rebuilt. The last time I checked,
they cannot even be put into stockroom.

Are you sure? 4 are used per wing = 8 total.

Pg. 17: four are used for one wing. Then on pg. 35 it shows that you repeat
all the steps from pgs. 16-35 to build the second wing.

In Suggestions, TomVanhaelen writes:

I'm on the fence about instant checkout. On one hand it will eliminate questions
about shipping costs and NPBs. However, on the other hand our options to refuse
to pay for or disputing an incomplete order (parts not available) will also
be gone. With the number of stores that have inventory errors I feel like instant
checkout is going to lead to other issues. More non-positive fb and retaliatory
fb.

It's a nice feature on other websites and I don't recall it ever being
suggested here. Maybe it will come with the new selling features they've
mentioned some time ago.

In Suggestions, Nikilyn writes:
A lot of sites let you click on a tracking number and it takes you right to that
carriers tracking page and shows where your item is. Maybe bricklink could have
sellers "choose a carrier" and then put in the tracking number. Bricklink could
turn that tracking number into a link on the order page. Not sure how all the
fancy stuff works but I didn't see this suggested and it would be really
nice to not have to open a new window all the time.

That's not the same feature.

My Store/ Part out/ put in set #, hit submit for edit/ scroll down to minifigs,
click the "delete" button next to each minifig/ Click the "verify items" button.
The minifigs will not be in the part out value shown on the next screen.

That sounds like a different function.

You can currently click the "delete" box on the minifigs before you hit the first
verify button to remove them from the part out value.

It means you already have that exact part in that exact color on your list, so
it won't change or consolidate the lot. You need to manually change the
quantity of the part in yellow and delete the non-applicable one.

In Administrative, armock writes:
And another basic function that does not work.

I tried to change the color of a piece from Not Applicable to yellow. All I
get is a message saying something along the lines of "only one item combination
is allowed per wanted list..."

I can't even figure out what that means.

It would seem that all the bugs are not worked out.

Too bad. I have many big projects that I'd like to start, but this is really
a deal breaker. I guess I'll just continue to buy off of ebay for bigger
lots/sets instead.

For me this feature was all about choosing the best overall value when considering
the price over the number of lots on my wanted list I could fulfill. I also
found myself being able to place larger $ orders to maximize shipping costs.

The old way works, however, it takes substantially more time than I wish to give
up just for shopping and probably placing more orders than really needed. I'd
rather be building.

New sets cannot be listed as complete, if they are missing instructions or stickers
(I cannot remember what I just read about the original box and completeness).
That is already in the guidelines. Whether or not it is enforced is beyond
my knowledge.

One thing that would help with this is to disallow a set that is missing instructions
from being considered complete. I just looked at the 4 cheapest NEW 10179's
and they are missing instructions, stickers, box. One even has stated that a
reproduction instruction book is included and is listed as Complete.

Sbricks have no place in the catalog. It doesn't matter how neat they may
be.

I just requested adding Sbrick and SBrick Plus Bluetooth command devices, they
are not from Lego, but much better ! It all depands, so bricklink should propose
anything convenient, compatible with normal Lego pieces, toxic ones or not convenient
ones are illegal in EJFJ State, not only on bricklink, and no one should waste
anything while considering them! Only the best is legal, bricklink.com is a nice
solution (international reference norm)...

Each member could place their order in one unique batch and see if the seller
can fill and bag by batch (best to ask 1st). A bigger order might be worth a
little extra effort from a seller. I know that I would do it if asked.

I don't think there's enough demand for this feature to utilize resources
when much more important things are needed. Voted no.

I have a hard time with bank transfers especially with the addition of % based
fees. Sellers that do this are essentially punishing buyers that want some recourse
should something go wrong with the order or the order is never sent.

Yes, it happens even to sellers that have no intentions of defrauding their buyers.
$@*# happens.

Of course, my understanding of transfers is one sided. Different geography =
different ways of life.

In Suggestions, perrush writes:

I charge the actual paypal fee too. Not because I like an extra line on my invoice
but because I think it's fair to those buyers paying by bank transfer.

If yu don't charge a paypal fee, it means the fee is in your brick prices.
So if a buyer pays by bank tranfer, he's actually overpaying.

Just my 2 cts. But I know other have a different opinion about it.

Due to your obscure rants about the value of this feature, I've decided to
remove my yes vote. I'd like the feature back, but I as a long-term member
I refuse to allow your misguided attempts to be a leading factor to its return.

The site is just as functional as it was before the tool was implemented. I've
placed nearly 1500 orders and this feature won't be the cause of me not buying
more.

This is where I think you are a little confused.

If I as builder decide that I don't need a bag of parts, then I can list
them in my store for whatever price I want. I'm probably less inclined to
factor in costs.

However, if I invest money to obtain a great deal of product, then there's
a set amount I need just to break even. There's generally a substantially
greater cost in being able to offer a vast selection of parts for a buyer to
choose from and that investment must be recouped plus profit for the seller to
continue to operate.

What's happening is the amount of profit has shrunk by a very significant
amount over the past decade that operating a store in not as beneficial.

This will lead to problems buying individual Lego pieces at some point, if the
trend continues.

Example: 10-13 years ago I had no problem buying sets with a part out value of
3-5x what I paid, which allowed room to discount slow moving parts.

Now, I would be lucky to get 2x and that doesn't allow much room for adjustments
when you factor in all costs.

In Suggestions, TokerSays writes:
I guess that's where I get a little flustered. I wish I could remember where
but I saw that Bricklink started out because one Lego hobbyist had a bunch of
extra pieces that they decided to sell because they didn't need them. Those
hobbyist keep the average price per piece down. They get rid of their extra
pieces, they make a small profit. But its the big stores, whose hobby is to
sell Lego pieces, that are driving prices artificially high. Without the average
pricing tool we allow them to set their own profit margin. If they sold at the
same price as the hobbyist, their profits would be smaller. But it would be
a profit. And I would that if those big stores sold at an average price their
sales would increase. It may not increase enough to make up for the original
lost profit but they would still make a bigger profit than the hobbyist by virtue
of selling more product. I don't think I should pay $1.48 for piece because
the store has the quantity I need and the average price is $0.30. That markup
isn't for the Seller to make a profit, that markup is a blatant overprice.

Sellers pay the fees on BL which is a percentage of the order price (before shipping).
This is in addition to the fee that PayPal charges to accept payment (that fee
is on the full total).

I was just pondering how I've changed as a buyer over my years as an AFOL
and there was a time when I wouldn't think twice about paying MSRP for a
new set I wanted. Now I look at those prices and think, 'wow $__ is a bit
steep for a x-wing or millennium falcon, etc' or 'that's really cool,
but not that cool.'

With cost of living and such, I don't think what I take home is much different
than 14 years ago*, yet my whole perspective of the cost of Lego has changed.
I wonder if it is different for many others, as well.

*hopefully I'll finally make that change when I finish school

That's a really troubling idea, but we may just need a really bold move (or
moves) to turn the market around.

Now what _would_ be a total game changer, is the removal of _all_ price guide
info. Try and wrap your head around that one. There are precious few market places
where you get any access to this type of info. It would be interesting to see
what would happen to item prices in that case. No more "part-out" - "set prices
at L6MA-30%" - "go" - "hope-to-get-rich-now".

As you are most likely aware, this has been going on long before the feature
was offered. Back when we had sellers like ShackyShuffle and House of Logos
listing at what appeared to be near or below cost, which satisfied many people's
desire for cheap Lego and the constant price wars between HoL and a select few
stores. We have 10 or so years of damage and so many hands in the pot now that
I don't think removing this feature will help recover the market.

It might slow the bleeding, but the wound is quite large and will likely continue
to grow and fester. (maybe a slightly gross analogy, but that's what I came
up with)

Whether removing this info will stop prices being driven down I cannot say. I
doubt even BL will be able to say. But your story clearly shows removing it _could_
slow down the drop of prices.

I've tried to get a handle on BrickOwl, but I find it to be extremely unpleasant
to navigate and make use of it's features. This could just be a cause of
my 14+ years on BL making it difficult to switch.

There is now no difference in the buying experience between here and BrickOwl
that I can see so far, except that BrickOwl has a nicer interface.

It looks like just an extra for the fig to wear:
http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=5568652

The x42 is already a part of the minifig.

I don’t know where the bandana is used but it’s also in Brickset’s inventory

I figured it had to do with where BL was hosted in Indiana (Northstar?), since
admin lived in HI.

I think it came from the fact the bricklink was brickBay and copied from ebay.
Ebay made bricklink change its name.
ebay did run on pacific coast time and I believe it still does, I have not checked
the time thing in a long while.
However most of bricklink is the offspring of ebay.

Please no. This is 'BrickLink: an unofficial Lego marketplace.' Start
a different marketplace for other brands.

In Suggestions, FauconRoyal writes:
  Hello,

I hope someone from the Bricklink team reads me.
Here is my suggestion: why not expand Bricklink towards Playmobil products?
While the AFOP community isn't quite as vibrant as the AFOL community, there
are many adult fans of Playmobil out there (including me) who have been sharing
and buying/selling for years now on different internet forums. We even have our
own sets/parts database at playmodb.org
But this community lacks a global and well-organized marketplace like Bricklink.
So why not expand? It would be a bit of work from the Bricklink team's part,
but adapting Bricklink's framework to Playmobil products should be doable,
especially if you use the playmodb database which would spare you quite some
trouble. And it ultimately would mean more money for you.
I'd very much like you to consider this project. If playmolink or klicklink
or whatever its name was ever created, I'd certainly be the first to set
up shop and do publicity on your behalf to the AFOP community.
Thank you for your attention and have a nice day

I don't trust BL's vetting process enough for this to make any difference.
They seemly haven't shown that they take the fraud going on seriously.

I'm thinking on the lines of selling limits and maybe escrow services in
addition to some other security in place.

I disagree. There are plenty of instances where someone sold a minifig that
was missing a cape (for example). I've probably bought several figs that
were missing something.

There's a market for these, so why not accommodate it by using complete/incomplete.

I prefer a rule that makes clear that any "incomplete" listing is incorrect and
will be reported and removed.

If we exclude the free shipping from your terms, then I would have no idea how
much shipping would have been for said order or any order over 13oz.

It's not about being fair or not, but about estimating the cost before the
order is placed.

Yes, but don't most sellers have a chart and terms that reflects what the
price will be? For mine it doesn't matter if you live in the same town,
I charge the same thing as I would charge any Domestic Customer, etc. Based on
my experience buying on BL, my rates are very fair.

Please consider showing each seller's postal code next to their state. It
is important information in helping to estimate shipping costs.

For example, I just made a purchase from a store in Missouri, so I Googled zip
codes for that state. The zip code that I selected told me that shipping would
be zone 4. However, had I known the exact zip code or city, I would have discovered
that it was zone 5.

The difference was only about $1.50, but that amount could add up fast when you've
placed as many orders as I have (1,472).

* Or the name of the city, if that is preferable.

Yea, but we'll be getting BL Studio soon. Nothing like it has ever been
done before and it was certainly the most requested feature from buyers and sellers
alike.

I agree that the setup is not ideal, and it holds out a lot of hope for being
ideal. Something in the interim could have been done, but they did not set it
up that way. I don't know what else to say than I feel your pain and I am
doing a lot of work to make it less painful. With all of the other things needing
to be fixed and developed on this site that are much more important (e.g. instant
checkout, seller inventory tools, settings that don't stick, the awful version
2.0 wanted list changes that are needed, etc.), I don't see them putting
resources into changing this small annoyance anytime soon.

Best regards,
Randy

Here is the criteria for sets:

I have always had a problem with vagueness when sellers say a set is complete.
When a seller says a set is complete I don't know if that means its just
all the pieces, or if its all pieces, instructions, and box. My suggestion is
that when selling a set there are three bubbles to fill. One to fill if it has
all pieces, one for instructions included, and one for original box included.
That way buyers can know for sure that they are getting a "complete" set. Thank
you.
