If my choice of investment was between a set at retail price or one that had
already seen a 200% increase in value it wouldn't be a choice at all.

I think the gunship but both are still good investments.

Great questions!

Though the idiom “apples and oranges” leaps to mind. In other words, they are
incompatible for any sort of honest comparison, imho.

-One is a newer set, the other older with 10 years of price settling.
-One was designed for display (UCS), the other for play.
-One's value is held in minifigures, the other's is not and never will.

“will be worth more in the future?”

How far into the future? Worth more as an asset? In which case: new-sealed, parted,
used, etc?

The only definitively answer I can offer, is to your “which one looks
better on display” question... which is in this case, is perhaps the apropos
question to ask yourself. Without a doubt it's the gorgeous Republic Gunship.
A stunning beauty! (like my ex-wife, though far less costly)

If sets, then use brickset. If parts, probably rebrickable. Although cataloguing
a parts collection can take a long time.

What are you buying for. Investment or building? If investment, buy a current
set.

If you are building, are you more prequel or original trilogy? Which set do
you like and which goes best in your display area with your current collection?
Go for that one. They are both good display sets, but with so many personal variables,
the better one depends in you.

Yes, but you will need the matching battery pack, receiver, and transmitter.

Generally lots of overpriced, over-weighed, off-brand (or counterfeit), and dirty/smokey
stuff. I saw 1 listing supposedly for the modular Bookshop that had just the
box and a few bags of solid colors (obviously not from that set) that went for
over $100. I've also seen listings with a couple of hundred figures in very
blurry pictures, but very obviously counterfeit (as in the pic in this thread
with sealed, disassembled figures) go for over $1,000. Crazy what people will
pay and how little they know about Lego.

Local marketplaces where you can see what you get before you pay are probably
still the best way to find cheap used Lego.

Never before no. Check the catalouge under key chains though. Or post a post

I’d warn them that it is counterfeit and they might be in legal trouble if they
knowingly try to sell it again.

After a week I finally got a refund . Was a huge pain

The box looks real - it's the first time I've seen a fake set with the
LEGO logo reproduced. But those figures definitely look fake. I wonder if it
is a fake in a genuine box

It is the complete set copied almost 4k pieces . None of the bricks say lego
on them. even the stickers look real minus the china stamp on back. I'm afraid
once this is returned it will just be put back into circulation .

Not like that, mine came in individual card wallets/pockets. That was vip redemption
rather than sale.

Not me. I like it, though!

Maybe add it to the catalog? The question is where? Under Gear - Super Mario
(Co-Branding: Nintendo) but beyond that: Keychain or Retail Display Case?

something like goo gone work?

No, unless it's Elmer's glue or craft Glue (glue gun). Most glue chemically
reacts with the plastic to melt it together.

Depending on the set, it may have value as is. Sold these to a LUGNET member
who wanted to display them at shows but didn't want to risk putting out his
"real" ones:

At least for the last couple years LEO would never glue sets for their stores,
they display them built normally then either let employees have them or send
the bricks back to be recycled into other sets. Sometimes the big display pieces
that aren't official sets are assembled and glued, then sent to the stores
in larger chunks. Was there a time when they glued them together, or was this
just done by second party stores that wanted to make LEGO displays?

Yes, all the old sets for store display were glued, there are collectors for
that

You could order glued models from a LEGO catalog for your store.

I think there are still sets officially glued by LEGO, mostly the store display
cases.

I have one like the first picture, but there are many more.

Lego Stores do build the sets by their employees, but for other stores like Toysrus
etc they sent glued models, but those are usually in a cubic box with backdrop
decoration too.

I wouldn't bother. You will end up with a pile of worthless, damaged bricks.
You might as well have a glued set that can be displayed.

It really depends on the glue used.

Are you sure it is not an original LEGO glued set?

What are original LEGO glued sets? I have never heard of that. I would think
it isn't since only some of the parts are glued, including some technic parts
that are supposed to be able to rotate.

Maybe it has happened to you before to pay VAT twice: first when BL order is
placed and the second time when it gets to the Customs.

It already exists: legally, and on BL, you need to be a VAT-registered entity
(so a seller with the VAT option on).

I mean for all non-VAT registered buyers.

It’s illegal.

I know there were some EU countries that had (still have?) problems with this
when shipments arrive to their country.

Opinions? EU buyers: what is your experience regarding this?

Thanks.
Saso

* BL might be obligated to charge VAT but then I would expect BL to make sure
the shipments are correctly posted (and all the neccessary inormation entered
into the IOSS computer system) - if BL can't do this then I would like not
to pay VAT when I place an order to avoid more work for me and for BL team (now
I have one order when VAT was paid twice. I am still waiting for the official
receipt before contacting BL team for a refund (our Tax Administration says I
must request a refund from the marketplace)).

Anyway, in those years I’ve developed what could be termed: category likes. Certain

enjoy or appreciate the items. I would call it collecting, but it’s not really
that. I have collections, none Lego related.

No, I spend money on these Lego, rationalizing the expenditure with “I’ll sell
it someday in our normal course of doing business here." I guess the perceived
difference for me, is that simple fact; the intention to sell at some point

Well this morning, after several cups of jo, I started pondering those categories
I’ve come to enjoy, and asked myself why? That is, why do I appreciate them,
say over others?

Are there items of particular categories within the BL catalog, you tend to
enjoy more than others? If so, what are they and why the affinity?

I’d enjoy reading your thoughts on this, and have mischievously omitted a personally
salient bit for now: my categories. I will post them, but I would kinda like

I love printed tiles. (not stickers, but printed) I saw a mosiac made of them
at my first Brickworld Chicago and it just kinda stuck with me. I am happy whenever
I get to add a new one to the catalog so the artists out there have more to work
with.

Some are very nice, indeed.

Second place would be all the minifigs that are dressed up in costumes.

Minifig No: col258 Name: Banana Guy, Series 16 (Minifigure Only without Stand and Accessories)
*
col258 (Inv) Banana Guy, Series 16 (Minifigure Only without Stand and Accessories)
Minifigures: Collectible Minifigures: Series 16 Minifigures

What cool idea! I like it.

I also love sorting and selling anything from the Technic or Bionicle categories.

Always had a small fascination for Bionicle sets and their parts, just never
acted on it.

Hair and Headgear as they're the one component that really helps define a
minifigure. Assembling them onto a head is also very satisfying

Hair, Headgear and Heads are one of the main things my store specializes in.
Small and easy to store with a good demand for them. They certainly work for
me

Makes sense. My son opened his own store when he became of age. When he did,
he briefly toyed with the idea of specializing in minifig heads, headgear and
hairs. His thinking was much the same as yours and I also thought it a good idea,
still do.

Anyway, when going over possible store names back then, I hit on the store name
"A good place to get ahead" His career and interests quickly sidelined his BL
store development, though.
