As there are two plates on each sprue, the numbers should be halved.

My guess is that about 95% of all sets have these plates in it. Are you going
to add change requests for all sets.

New sealed set.
The 2 extra glasses were in the first batch (20 instead of 18).
In compensation, I only got 2 extra trans-green plate 1x1 instead of 4.

So, if something was done, it was obligatory done by an admin. And admins usually
don’t do anything stupid.
The catalogue has some inconsistencies but they are worked upon. And, without
discrediting the other admins, StormChaser is cleaning tornado.
As you can see with these minifigs, a lot have been marked for deletion without
anyone doing anything about them (like sellers keeping selling them while they

Maybe. Depends on the results you want to get. It might work in a flat sense
if you limit a part to having only one of those attributes. As an ENUM field,
it would not allow for a printed + stickered + molded part. As a SET field it
would allow for a plain, printed, stickered, molded part (which wouldn't
make sense).
It's a big complicated proposition which would require a big complicated
solution to be highly effective.
|
I prefer one nullable field to twin-fields (boolean field + non-nullable field)
but I’m no DB expert, so efficiency rules (speed-wise and size-wise, but also
readability, extensibility, “error-prone-ness”…) that apply to programs may not
apply to DBs.
Anyway that’s an argument which is only valid if you really insist on doing everything
(or a maximum) on the DB side, and it’s feeble because there’s always something
to be done outside the DB, like verifying what comes in and out of the DB, like
checking for non-sensical values, which should be done even if the DB already
does it.
Well, all that is moot: we’re not in a position to do anything or to propose
anything

| It would be wonderful if there could be two check boxes for Decorated and Sticker.
|
Now, from a database perspective, this is where it starts to get complicated.
You need to first distinguish between Decorated and Not Decorated. That would
be one field. Then distinguish the type of decoration: sticker, printed, molded...that
would be a second field.
|
Well, it could be done with only one field: plain, printed, stickered, moulded…
(I.e. allowing “plain” (nil/null/none/empty…) as a type of decoration.)
| | However, that actually would require data and some real coding.
|
Yes. That's why I say a new database is needed. The current structure is
pretty long in the tooth.
At the moment problems that would be more elegantly solved by revising the database
are being kludged by attempting to incorporate all the various descriptive attributes
into the item Description/Name. While that may be successful to a degree, it
limits or eliminates the possibilities of providing checkboxes and whatnot to
refine a search.
|
Like alternate numbers which, unless it has changed or I misremember, are poorly
handled with a string field (thus limiting their number and complicating searches).
Anyway, all that could have been rendered painless if not at the design stage,
at least in a redesign, by abstracting and factoring the database access.

A precision: As Jennifer said, the years for the sets are the years the sets

Yes, you are right, the ' cone ' shape is a cartoonesque representation
of a bee nest, naturally made by bees. [Do an image search on ' Bee

jugs or something like that made by beekeepers? I tried to google but I don't
find any "real" version (man made or otherwise) of this type of beehive, that's
why I'm still not sure... :o
|
Look at Wikipedia, they have pictures (esp. on English and French versions, a
little less on the “Nederlands” one).
Some wasps and hornets make roundish nests (cardboard-looking material which
is actually saliva and dirt or wood), but they don’t show rings. And they aren’t
bees.
Only some man-made rope hives show rings.
And man has kept bees for milleniums, so the shape is in our cultural memories.
| So my comparison with spiderweb could be off, though it doesn't exactly matter
for the Animal,Accessory argument in and of itself because they are usually man
made anyway.
|
Without the rapid official use as a cotton-candy, I’d actually have agreed with
the Animal, Accessory possibility.
| But you're right if this part will be used for other stuff in the future.
It would be much like the fez situation then. I don't actually expect it,

Yes, because it goes around a head but on the other hand, when you have the piece
in hand and don’t know what it is, do you readily realize it goes around a head
and think “Hat!” or do you first look at its conical shape?
Tough case

(except as headgear), nor utensils...

As WoutR already pointed out, Beehives aren’t made by bees but by minifigs… er
humans.
Bees live in hollow trunks or such cavities, they don’t build such nests.
| The beehive discussion really has me tearing
my hair, to me it feels like there's some wheel and people go "hmmm... 'door'
maybe? or 'aircraft'?"
Just promise me when LEGO releases a bird nest, then SPIDER-WEB, BEE-HIVE, and
BIRD-NEST will all be Animal,Accessory
|
This part already is:
1. a (man-made) beehive,
2. a cotton-candy,
And it can be:
3. a wasp or hornet nest,
4. a Chinese lantern,
5. a Bibendum head,
and undoubtedly many many other things, especially when other colours will appear.
It already has too many very different usages.
Therefore, we can’t categorize it according to its usages.
Therefore, we only can use its shape and connectivity for categorization purposes.
(Moreover and anyway, shape and connectivity should always be the main features
used for categorization as usage generally isn’t known when you stumble upon
the part and are using the catalogue to find it.)
And this part is cone-based, sort of, and can go on a minifig head.
So it’s a Cone or a Minifig Hat.

The problem would be titling that category. You may notice that there aren't
many (if any) part categories which have titles like Stairs, Conveyors, Bridges,

The consensus here was a new category titled Effect. Not a bad idea, but it
seems like it would be hard to understand. Even Power Effect seems questionable,
though better. It would be great if we could come up with a title to describe
all forms of effects (waves, flames, power bolts, etc.) and group them all together
as suggested.
I thought Plasma Effect would be perfect, but Wikipedia tells me that flame is
not a plasma. So what about Plasma / Gas Effect?
|
(BURP is already in use….)
And aren’t some of them neither plasma nor gas (nor liquid) but energy? Qi/chi?
Phlogiston?
| Still no mention of flame
in the title, though, which some wanted to see.

(Wow, dangerous to mix Flame with Gas Effects….)

Try a close-up of both studs from an angle so we can see how deep they are?
If the parts are side by side or the same relative size and if you manage to

Or maybe insert a common LEGO part and show how far it goes?
This way, anyone could easily do the same.

When I look at the catalog page for I see 'Size: 2 x 2 x 1 in studs'

ITEMDIMX 2 /ITEMDIMX
ITEMDIMY 2 /ITEMDIMY
ITEMDIMZ 1 /ITEMDIMZ
When I look at the values beneath an actual listed lot (3003) I see: 16mm 11.2mm

Remember that LEGO bricks are measured in lego studs, whereas Duplo bricks are

The metric measurements make sense, as the duplo piece is 2x bigger in all dimensions

|
People move. Either for years or only months or even weeks. And the Internet
has no frontier.
Will you force buyers to open a new e-mail account in the country they are while
they had had one for years that works pretty well anywhere in the world?
| Do IBAN transfers use a particular service? I guess I need to conduct such a
transaction to see how they work. If they can decrease fraud with greater payee
control over funds, that sounds nice.
|
So-called “IBAN transfers” are just bank transfers.
When you do a bank transfer, you need to identify the accounts (more precisely,
the banks and the accounts within the banks), so that the banks can talk to each
other. IBAN (International Bank Account Number), is just a scheme to identify
accounts, it’s an international standard, ISO 13616.
One other identifier that’s often used is BIC (Business Identifier Code), which
identifies the bank in the Swift network (an agreement network between banks).
In the olden times (and in remote locations), transfers were (still are) a PITA,
involving letters and faxes to correctly identify and verify who’s who. When
it’s at all possible.
In the modern times (and enlightened countries ), you just need an IBAN.
There are services that proxies for the banks, like iDEAL (NL-based), making
bank transfers a bit easier than from the bank’s own website, and “instant” (meaning
they can immediately tell the receiver the transfer has been entered).
What’s great in EU is that we created an(other) agreement: SEPA, which states,
among other things, that any payment in Euro in the SEP-Area has to be treated
the same way as a local payment. And as local bank transfers have mostly become
free in the past decades (especially online), that means they are mostly free
for the whole SEP-Area
So, see if you have an IBAN somewhere in your bank papers, or ask your bank if
you can easily (and cheaply) receive or send international bank transfers with
just an IBAN.
And if your bank can’t or won’t, you can still see if another one does. Opening
an account shouldn’t be expensive, even in the USA. (Don’t you get a free toaster
when you do? That’s what I learned watching US shows )

| how are technic pins measured? or how do i know I am looking at right size?
|
Ah, yes, BL’s catalogue measure them in “pins.”
That is, “full” pins are:
They are 2 studs-long (= 2L). (1L = 1 stud = the width of a brick = LEGO’s “Module”
or “M”.)
So, the “half pin”,
is actually a 1 stud-long “thing that goes in technic holes” with a stud on top.
And the “¾ pin” is a 1½ stud-long part = a 1-stud-long thing that goes in technic
holes and a half-stud-long one that goes in thin/half beams
Then, when “L” is used, it’s in studs.
So, if the catalogue were coherent, the following parts would be called “1½ pins”
Axles are in studs.

outside the capabilities of average people. It doesn’t imply that the person

The same argument is often rendered as “it’s not brain surgery.”
If you think a task needs someone with rare abilities, then it is “rocket science.”
Otherwise, that means you think anyone could do the task, and then “it’s not

But then it will complicate situation for sellers and buyers. Some listings would
be for part and some for fig. Now they are all under one entry. It would be unnecessary
doubling of the entry.

Ah yes, I hadn’t thought about that. It would be annoying indeed.

So what happen. It turns out that when you have minifig which can't be inventoried
in the inventory. This one have:
[m=sw408]
and you choose option in the inventory page "Break Minifigs" to have only list
of separate parts to better count them (it is very useful when there are more
complex with more parts minifigs) this one disappears form the inventory and
then one part is missing and inventory have 716 parts
I also try it in easiests examples I tried to use this function on Duplo sets,
figs always disappear
So many years here and there is still something new to learn about this system

Anyway, that doesn’t invalidate the second part of the difference Woutr wanted

Well, it does say:
“Examples include […] assembled parts which came unassembled and would be damaged
or destroyed if disassembly were attempted.”
3937c01 came already assembled, which makes it a Regular part in my book.
And it now comes unassembled and it could be damaged or destroyed during disassembly,
which makes it a possible Counterpart according to the current definition.
3830c01 comes unassembled and would not be damaged or destroyed with dissassembly.
It’s not a candidate for Regular. And it would not be a candidate for Counterpart
without the proviso:
“At the present time, however, the Counterparts section is used for anything
which does not fit the definition of a regular, extra, or alternate part.”
“At the present time” means it will change when the new “Assembly” section exists.
And when that happens, 3830c01 won’t be a Counterpart.
This explains why the difference is relevant.
Now, this does not explain why the part is marked for deletion, au contraire.

Well, I didn’t break either but, when a kid and when brick separators didn’t

| Next question:
How much sense does it make to mark this part for deletion after stating to be

decided to add these parts to inventories for now.

No sense at all, but the two hinges are still different.

You have two ways of seeing this suggestion:
— as a new restriction upon the buyer (like done on S@H),
— or as a stockroom feature for sellers, an automation of what can already be
done manually (i.e. move stock from stockroom to store once an order has emptied
the (s)lot).
What I understand from Teup’s explanations is that the latter is more how he
sees/wants this feature.
In this case, first, there are already stores who do that, manually or with
their own inventory management tools. And, second, the buyer generally doesn’t
know about it unless they come back later, like with this suggestion.

BrickLink ID numbers are "smart" numbers - they aren't a series of digits
randomly assigned when an entry is formed. We have those types of numbers internally,

available on the main catalog page for every entry.
|
Please don’t.
People, especially newbies, have already enough trouble with BL ID, which are
the same but different from TLG’s DesignID, and Part Color Codes/PCC which are
TLG’s Element ID, and Inventory IDs (used when filing an Inventory Change Request).
I don’t see the need to add the DB ID to the mix.

PCC describes the code better. The first PCC's were literally a combination
of a 4-digit part code and a 2-digit color code. Some of those original PCC's
are still being used:
3024+02
3024+21
3024+23

The new 7-digit codes aren't "smart" like that, but they do represent the
