  Hi all,
is the brick on the right the smooth version or it is only a variant with less
rough surface?

Thanks in advance

See https://www.bricklink.com/messageThread.asp?ID=277196&nID=1229382

If you want to separate them, I would suggest to list them as different lots
under the 3046a entry with appropriate notes.

Part No: 55007  Name: Duplo Drum Reel Holder 2 x 2 x 3
*
55007 Duplo Drum Reel Holder 2 x 2 x 3
Parts: DUPLO
is definitely the earlier version (introduced in 2007) so it should
be in the regular items section. It is apparent that later copies came with

Part No: 13358  Name: Duplo Drum Reel Holder 2 x 2 x 2
*
13358 Duplo Drum Reel Holder 2 x 2 x 2
Parts: DUPLO
(see https://www.bricklink.com/messageThread.asp?ID=259312 )

Therefore

Part No: 41169c05 Name: Duplo Winch Drum Narrow with Black String and Light Bluish Gray Nozzle
*
41169c05 Duplo Winch Drum Narrow with Black String and Light Bluish Gray Nozzle
Parts: DUPLO
should indeed be in the regular items section.

Comments from Submitter:
Feel free to reject the changes to extra pins, but I find it highly unlikely that there was ever four extra included in this set. There was 5 in total (no extra) in the sealed set I just parted out.

I think it's okay to accept this. The change log shows there was some confusion
about this part and

Part No: 2780 Name: Technic, Pin with Short Friction Ridges
*
2780 Technic, Pin with Short Friction Ridges

As for the other request, there should be 35

in this set according to the instructions and the official inventory data. I
have adjusted the quantities after accepting your request.

  They both seem the same to me. For better understanding, I will include some
pictures. Also, how the box is organized inside seems slightly different. First
3 pictures are from the 7-12 set, the other ones from 8-12.

The different interior is because the set was released in 2000 and produced through
2003 (at least). In 2000 they still used those transparent part trays (inlays)
to present some interesting parts. Sets from later production runs did not have
that tray anymore and the parts from the tray just came in an additional bag.

Of course this does not explain why they changed the age recommendation. Maybe
it was just a marketing decision to make the set more interesting for younger
children (or their parents).

  The Minecraft Brick Built Ghast (animal/mob) from set 21122 (from 2015) is still
missing in the inventory. The only other Ghast that has appeared in a set was

Part No: mineghast01 Name: Minecraft Ghast, Internal Parts #1 - Brick Built
*
mineghast01 (Inv) Minecraft Ghast, Internal Parts #1 - Brick Built
Parts: Animal, Air
in set 21143 (from 2018)

I can understand why: the Ghast from 21122 came with an extra printed plate so
that you could change the face from hostile to harmless mob. This also required
the removal of 2 1x2 tiles and a 1x1 round plate.

I would like to get advice from the inventory admins how I could add this to
the catalog.
My own suggestion is to add a mineghast02a to the cat. For the printed 2x4 tile

Part No: 87079pb0225 Name: Tile 2 x 4 with Black, Dark Bluish Gray, and Red Rectangles Pattern (Minecraft Ghast Open Eyes)
*
87079pb0225 Tile 2 x 4 with Black, Dark Bluish Gray, and Red Rectangles Pattern (Minecraft Ghast Open Eyes)
Parts: Tile, Decorated
I would suggest this part as counterpart

Part No: 87079pb0226 Name: Tile 2 x 4 with Black and Dark Bluish Gray Rectangles Pattern (Minecraft Ghast Closed Eyes)
*
87079pb0226 Tile 2 x 4 with Black and Dark Bluish Gray Rectangles Pattern (Minecraft Ghast Closed Eyes)
Parts: Tile, Decorated

The difference between the two versions of mineghast02 is the exchange of 4 parts
from the a-version and replacing it by one part to get the b-version as shown
in the instructions.

Please let me know how to proceed, you guys know how to reach me.

Parts are like minifigures - they cannot have counterparts or alternates in the
inventory. So if you want to add that Ghast to the catalog, you should choose
the version which is shown first in the instructions (i.e. with part 87079pb0225).
This is also how we add minifigures which have alternate parts (helmet or hair
piece for example).

* Delete 2 Part 4073 Trans-Red Plate, Round 1 x 1

The instructions shows the sold stud containers and this set was released in
1985, about 6-7 years before the hollow stud version of container was released.

I agree.

  Is it time to add sprues without any evidence? Hard to find any evidence for
certain small sets like this one.

We discussed about the 4073s in the admin forum last month and we agreed that
sets from the 80s always had them on sprues. But please don't start now to
change them all at once as we have too many other things to process at the moment
(especially new inventories). I will let you know when I have time again to have
a look at some older sets.

Please see the LEGO official pdf instructions. The correct part is the 92280.
The 44681 are the additional ones...

Thanks for your answer.
BrickLink inventories are based on the actual set contents whenever possible.
This is one of the most important aspects of BrickLink (especially when it comes
to parts variants). Since there is no evidence that the set came with 92280,
these requests will not be accepted.

In the above video is a brand new set being opened, you can see the string a few times and I estimate its length to be about 17-20cm, which would make the 20cm string the correct part for this set.

  Since some months or a year ago I have been noticing that some parts feel the
same, newer ones have a matte finish (or not shiny?) and weight less.

For example:

Part No: 32184 Name: Technic, Axle and Pin Connector Perpendicular 3L with Center Pin Hole
*
32184 Technic, Axle and Pin Connector Perpendicular 3L with Center Pin Hole
Parts: Technic, Connector {Black}

Left matte weights 0.57g
Right shiny weights 0.64g

So be careful if you weight them to count... the difference could be big.

PD: Someone posted in the forum some time ago a huge difference in weight between
two 100u bags of the same part, but couldn't find it to reply now.

https://www.bricklink.com/messageThread.asp?ID=284690&nID=1255060

But isn't this something that has been happening for years? Or has it become
a bigger issue in the last few months?

No problem! For now I have adjusted the inventory to have 34337 in the regular

makes it easier to add the extra part).

  Did some sets come with 4624 instead of 34337?

That's the question here.

pretty sure we won't split parts because of such a small and non-functional
difference. It would be a nightmare for everyone who wants to sort and list them
properly.

  Is there a sort of limit on how these should be listed? The medium and thick
string is easy enough to untie from my experience, but when it comes to the thin
string

Part No: x77a Name: String, Cord Thin (Undetermined Length)
*
x77a String, Cord Thin (Undetermined Length)
Parts: String & Net

I have found it nearly impossible to untie this string from parts without damaging
the string.

So the question is what parts would be considered an acceptable counterpart?
There are some assemblies I imagine may not be counted as so, such as the drawbridge
string in Black Monarch's Castle (The string is tied to two pieces with various
pieces caught up in the middle) and the hook string in a few of the vintage pirate
ships (this is often strung through one of the mast segments)

I have noticed a few parts that have counterparts listed already, such as these
pieces:

Part No: 2584 Name: String Reel 2 x 2 Holder
*
2584 String Reel 2 x 2 Holder
Parts: String Reel / Winch

Part No: 73037 Name: String Reel Winch 2 x 4 x 2 (Light Gray Drum)
*
73037 String Reel Winch 2 x 4 x 2 (Light Gray Drum)
Parts: String Reel / Winch

One part that I think should be listed as a stringed counterpart would be this
one:

Part No: 2614 Name: Minifigure, Utensil Fishing Rod / Pole, 12L
*
2614 Minifigure, Utensil Fishing Rod / Pole, 12L
Parts: Minifigure, Utensil

Interesting question. I don't think there are any guidelines or limits at
the moment but maybe we could discuss that as part of the catalog project #10
(Define Part Assemblies).

We would need to adress some of the assemblies with strings anyway because they
sometimes include parts or colors which are not part of the regular items section
(because the assemblies often have multiple parts with N/A colors or undetermined
string lengths - see example below). Unfortunately we don't have much these
days to move on with anything as we are completely overwhelmed with new parts
and set inventories.

Part No: 2584c07  Name: String Reel 2 x 2 Complete with Black String Thin and Dark Bluish Gray Grappling Hook (2585 / 2584 / x77a / 30192)
*
2584c07 (Inv) String Reel 2 x 2 Complete with Black String Thin and Dark Bluish Gray Grappling Hook (2585 / 2584 / x77a / 30192)
Parts: String Reel / Winch
