Is it preferable to sell items individually on this site or in bulk eg, I have
a bag of hundreds of blue bricks all the same size.

I also have tonnes of LEGO to sell (for my grandson) and it would take years
to list each item separately.

Your Advice appreciated.

It won't take years to list each item if you use the part out sets feature
as you can break and list whole sets in one go rather than individual pieces.
Are the parts in sets, or is it just a random pile? If it is just random, Bricklink
is not really the best place to sell (as here we use the catalogue to buy known
parts) and you may be better off selling by the kilo to people that want bulk
parts. Although prices for unsorted parts are much lower than for sorted.

Yeah, and any decent seller will tell you before and also hopefully what they
can offer to rectify it, including cancelling the whole order if that is what
the buyer wants.

Yes, all parts need to be real lego.

Would be nice to see something in the seller responsibilities about notifying
buyers of missing parts BEFORE shipping.

It's not just one seller. I've had this happen at least a few times.

10 lots... one expensive rare item. Seller messages me with "oops, couldn't
find it" along with tracking number 😒

I don't really see the point. If it is policy then a seller that wants to
keep the order when they have a missing part will "accidentally" miss the missing
part when packing and leave it to the buyer to inform them. Whereas decent sellers
will already inform the buyer before shipping if they know a part is missing.

Yes.

Yep.  That kind of protection has always been more a pain to honest users than
to crakers: the user needs to enter a password each and every time, but the crakers
can easily crack them because the password is in the very file!

DRMs and passwords are a cat and mouse game where the only losers are the ones
who don’t play, the honest buyers.

It is a single minifig, it is hardly any work to pick and quote the postage.
I'd just tell them what the postage is, along with a note saying to let you
know if they want to cancel if international postage costs more than they thought.

the catalog was looking a biiit different from what I was used to for the past

part of my store on Bricklink for now, focus on other stuff and address the issue
later on. Give it some time for the dust of moving stuff in the catalog to settle.

I recall there was some Dome category, amongst a few other things (didn't
wedge plates also got moved to plate? Or that was about to happen?)....

But the other day I was browsing my inventory and I noticed everything is...
preeetty much the way it used to be? Tried to search the forum but didn't
exactly find an explanation.. whatever happened? I mean, I'm fine with it,
but just wondering.. was it cancelled or just postponed?

Weren't cones and domes going to be grouped together?

Maybe everyone receiving the email should email them on that email address, so
they know the extent of the problem they have caused today.

If everyone would do that, they will overlook more serious messages.
I didn't receive a reply so far on the UK order problem I mailed to the above
address.
probably because after my message, they received thousands about the EU VAT mail
yesterday.

Hopefully they will notice quicky and then send an apology email to all affected
saying that this message was sent by mistake. If they leave it for a few days
without acknowledging it, then more people will ask them why.

I reported it .. and got this reply. They are saying it is fake/phishing. So
it looks another security breach as it appears to have come from a bricklink
server.

Thank you for bringing the email to our attention.

Unfortunately, that email was a fake/phishing email and not something released
officially by Lego/BrickLink. We're currently investigating the cause of
the email and would appreciate any additional information you might have about
it; including a screenshot of it and the address the email was sent from.

Sure... it only originated from the same network, passes spam checks, has no
spoofed links, contains my personal settings, has BL IP addresses in it, and
used the exact same mail server (same version).

This is very well faked and completely pointless or it came from BL because
someone made a mistake. The only other option is that someone has local network
access and likes sending emails to show of, I guess?

I'd be less worried if they said it was sent in error.

Just received:

Hello,

We are reaching out regarding an email that you received earlier from noreply@bricklink.com.
There has been an internal error that resulted in you receiving an erroneous
message regarding your store.
Please ignore this email and let us know if you have any questions or concerns.
We apologize for the inconvenience. .

Sincerely,
Anastasia
BrickLink Administration

Go BL, nice follow up.

It would have helped to say that it was about the store closing email, or that
"earlier" means six days ago!

The email also said to ignore "this email" .... presumably they mean that one
and not to ignore the email saying it was an error.

Sets: Harry Potter: Sorcerer's Stone

I have two to fill the order with. One has a missing vinyl seal, while the other
is in a glue sealed box.

Comparing the weight on the two ... the vinyl sealed one weighs ~640.2 gms, while
the glue sealed one weighs ~600.6 gms. Catalog says 624 gms. OK, who submitted
the weight, and what continent are they from ? Why the weight was submitted by
cosmicray ! Oy ve, combined with bahahaha !

The two seal types also relate to two different weights of cardboard for the
outer box. And I have no clue which one was used for the catalog weight (oh so
many years ago).

And don't forget with all lego sets now,, any one of them can be re-released.
Sending the value of the original plummeting and removing any potential profit
to be made. A very clever and strategical move by TLG which ensures people don't
bulk buy sets for later profit.

It's happend with a few sets now, the nasa rocket, ship in a bottle.. 🤔

I wouldn't worry too much about re-release for this set just yet, it is only
just out. I doubt anyone is buying as a long term investment at this stage.

then perhaps re-sell it (used or new/sealed). I usually don't see sets as
an investment, but I live near a LEGOLAND and their store sells 31203 for $250,
whereas on eBay and Bricklink it is available for $300-$350. However, at least
on eBay the supply is huge, and it is not clear to me if there is much demand.
Feel free to roast this novice now ...

I wouldn't, not at those margins. If you sell for $300, then after losing
10% in fees (eBay / paypal) you are down to $270. Is the risk worth $20? Plus
it will be discounted at some stage, there will be more competition for sales,
prices will be at the low end, it looks like it could be a pain to ship. Look
at what has happened to the prices of the art sets, which this is comparable
to.

You can only submit one image per item at one time. If you want to replace the
main image, submit and wait for it to be approved. Then, submit any further images
(one at a time) with a note to the admins that you want it to be considered for
an additional image.

In this case, I think that they are wanting to show the condition of their item
rather than submitting more images to be used by everyone.

  Hello everyone

First of all I want to say I am quite new to bricklink and this is my first post
in the discussion forum. This is why I am asking for help. I recently bought
from someone who I will not name, that sold some *new* bricks that has quite
a lot of scratches. On the image below you can see a sample of some of the bricks.
I bought some more, and I would say 10-30% of them had these kind of scratches.
Since I am quite new, I do not have a lot of experience buying new bricks, which
means I might be completely wrong, but in my opinion the bricks has so many scratches
it can not be called new. Am I just nitpicking? Any help is appreciated, thank
you for reading.

It might also be a good idea to take a photo of new bricks from a set you have
opened under the same conditions to compare, especially if the light is harsh
and picks up tiny scratches not visible to the eye. These definitely look more
scratched than normal, but that doesn't necessarily mean they are used. Some
PAB parts can have scratches like that if someone has continually ran their hand
through the bin, but they are defined as new at the point of sale.

Why is one classified a headgear and the other a hair? I was looking for the
goggles version and couldn't find it until I looked at the Apocalypseburg
Abe minifig inventory. I think they should be under the same category. Whether
it's hair or headgear I guess is up for debate, although there are a lot
of these hair/hat combos under "hair":
https://www.bricklink.com/catalogList.asp?pg=1&q=hat&catLike=W&catString=847&sortBy=N&sortAsc=A&catType=P&v=2
So maybe the plain black one belongs under the hair category?

And there are a few more of these headgear that could go under "hair":
https://www.bricklink.com/catalogList.asp?pg=1&q=hair&catLike=W&catString=16&sortBy=N&sortAsc=A&catType=P&v=2

I don't think it really matters where all these hair/hat combos go, as long
as they're in one place. I'm curious how some ended up in different categories,
whether it was differing interpretations of the parts or an actual rule that
I can't determine. Either disclose the definition of hair with hats vs hats
with hair (if there is one), or move into one category please!

When buying from a Wanted List, it is extremely time consuming and frustrating
to go through the entire process and then discover you cant buy these items because
they only accept Paypal.

I dont feel it should be necessary to 'dislike' a store based on my payment
preference. Would that even affect the store's rating? To dislike every store
individually would be incredibly time consuming.

Whilst i have a number of 'favourite' stores that all accept Stripe,
it is becoming more and more difficult to find new stores.

Would it be possible to have a setting/filter to exclude stores based on payment
method on the 'Buy Wanted Lists' page?

Best Regards
Phil

If you can use stripe to purchase why can't you also use PayPal?

Some sales are genuine but many are not. If someone posts a fake sale multiple

BrickLink is not the seller, it is not their inventory. They have no business
peeking and poking into my stock. I will never provide them access nor photos,
it's ridiculus.

And I would hope that as long as you or I or anyone else doesn't continually
let customers down by not being able to supply the items that the customer ordered,
BL won't ask for any such proof. They should trust established sellers by
default. Whereas if a seller is continually listing items they do not have such
that they can supply any item (albeit at an extortionate price) so that they
top carts created via wants lists, then drop shipping the parts, they intervene
either by asking for proof of items and/or banning.

Anyhow, there is no proof of the buyer drop shipping through bricklink in this
case. If they sell via drop shipping elsewhere it is not against BL rules, although
may be against the other site's rules.

If a seller makes a one off inventory error and sells something they don't

drop shipping. But a one error is likely to go both unnoticed and unpunished,
which I am sure most people would agree with. Whereas when it happens frequently,
the story changes.

They can't check. BrickLink personnal can't go to your place and physically
determine if you have the items at hand. They are not the police or law.

So, by definition they can't prove without a doubt. So, any measure they
take is by definition on suspition only. Not proof.

They can ask for photos of stock, for example. I believe some people are asked
to provide such information. Beyond doubt? No, but a pretty good indication.

Are Buyers allowed to use Drop-Shipping to receive purchases?

I could not find any mention of drop-shipping for buyers in either the Help files
or the Terms of Service. In the event that buyers are [no longer] allowed to
use drop-shipping, perhaps the Terms of Service should be written to expressly
prohibit this.

Reference: https://www.bricklink.com/feedback.asp?u=bricks4life

This particular buyer account has recently had their buying privileges revoked
and I am unsure why.

This particular buyer account has purchased from me multiple times and always
with a different name and address to send the order. The user of the account
has communicated with me directly (and was very nice). In the case of this user,
each address was a valid Paypal address, so I had no issues nor did I give up
my Paypal seller protection.

I have no problem with (overseas) buyers using drop-shipping or various addresses,
especially when the address is a valid Paypal address. When I prepare outgoing
orders, I only pay attention to the Paypal address -- the BL address is irrelevant
to me.

____

Drop Shipping is more of a decision on the part of the individual seller, than
a site wide prohibition. Some sellers are OK with it, some are not. I do not
wish to (knowingly) be involved in any drop shipped order, as the middle-man
is running a virtual store with no actual inventory. Representing that they have
inventory is inflating the apparent inventory available on the net, and distorting
pricing (usually in an upward direction).

Nita Rae

You are assuming there is re-selling going on. That could be -- I have no
way to know. This buyer has only purchased PARTS from me, so I assume the parts
are intended to be used to build and play with -- but again, I have no way
to know this for sure.

A buyers Feedback Rating of 9500 may tend to indicate reselling, but I highly
doubt that it could be done with virtual inventory without introducing a host
of potential problems and time delays caused by the third-party shipping.

To me, the use of multiple addresses could indicate the use of multiple re-shippers
to attempt to avoid massive import duties and taxes for the end user.

Whatever the case may be, this user appears to have completed more than 9500
Successful Bricklink purchases from very happy sellers. So, I still question
why their account was disabled because it seems Unwarranted. I suppose we may
never know the answer to that.

Here are the reasons for removing buyer privileges...
https://www.bricklink.com/help.asp?helpID=2460

3x Completed or 3x current NPB.

If there was some sort of selling scam going on, I'd imagine BL would remove
selling privileges too.

BL doesn't forbid it, so it is OK as long as the addresses are correct and
the buyer is not selling via drop shipping on BL. It may be an issue on the site
where the drop shipper is selling but that is an issue for them and not BL.

Last time I checked, you need to have the items that are for sale 'in hand'.
Meaning, you have to have the actual items.
Drop-shipping is buying the items from another seller, and having it shipped
to your buyer. That doesn't comply with the 'in hand'-rule.
But when Lego bought BL, this rule might have gone down the .....

So I reckon, it is NOT ALLOWED. Any second thoughts are welcome.

How do you know which site the drop seller is selling on?

I doubt limit numbers has much to do with being an exclusive product, and more
to do with production capacity, competition with their other ranges and payments

There is nothing premade, but there are a few that you can put together yourself:
Full disclosure, the first one is mine (shown in picture).

There are prepared ones, for example a search for lego periodic table will give
you one. However, BL users are better off buying parts from reliable BL sellers,
as this will be better value and they can just use colours they expect to find
and in whatever order they want.

In my opinion, following the logic for instructions entries were we have width
x height x thicknes
s the dimensions for flat boxes should also follow the
same logic and I would therefore suggest to make this: width x height x thickness
(of the flattened box).

Depth?

Well, if you consider the box flat on a table, ready to be packed, then the longest
side is length, the second longest side is width and the last side is thickness
because the box is not deep enough to have depth.

So you should ask for all the three names to be changed

Same here, I'd say length x width (well, breadth, but they won't change
that) x thickness as the 'depth' is so small compared to the other dimensions.

Hi everyone, I hope you’re having a nice start to the weekend.

Late last night I received a (small) order for some parts. I quickly sent an
invoice over and the buyer paid (via PayPal). This morning the buyer has messaged
me asking if it would be possible to add something to the order. I know it’s
possible to add items to an order, but I’ve never done it before, and I don’t
know how it would work with the order already being paid. What is the best course
of action?
I can think of two options, either the buyer sends a second order and I don’t
add shipping fees and send the two orders together. Or could I refund the buyer
and then they add the new items and pay again. If I do this second option will
either of us lose from PayPal/BrickLink fees?

Many thanks for reading, Stan.

You will lose PayPal fees if refunding and invoicing again. You will also pay
more fees for a second payment.

How much is the part worth? If pennies, I'd chuck it in free, without bothering
with invoicing.

Refund full payment through PayPal and ask buyer to pay though BrickLink. Besides
the VAT avoidance, When paid through “friends and family” you loose any seller
protections through PayPal.

The buyer loses buyer protection, the seller loses nothing. This is why some
sellers request it, as they cannot be reversed by the buyer if the parcel fails
to arrive or there are other problems.

Can you ship all 75 sets in one go. If not, it will be local collection only.

Yeah, not so. I've, in the past, sold and shipped hundreds of new set to
one buyer in Montana. Simply structure the deal to fit all aspects, money and
shipping arrangements. I believe that deal took a couple of days of work to ship
out UPS. My point being, it's doable.

For that many sets, it will also likely need to be another seller, so will need
a significant discount.

Again, not always the case. The buyer in Montana was some time of collector or
investor of collectables, not another seller. He did ask for considerations but
nothing I thought "significant" so he got them.

That might end up being a small pool of buyers.

Depending on how much effort you want to put in, you might do better just reducing
prices by 10%, then 20% and so on. Or sell groups of sets in themes to a local
buyer via a Craig's list / Facebook marketplace type site. By grouping in
themes you are more likely to sell to a person wanting them for themselves rather
than selling them on, hence better prices for you.

Sure, they might get lucky and find a buyer like that. As the store is closed
I cannot see what the sets are. If it is a mixture of themes, splitting by theme
may help sell the collection for not much additional work. Depending on the set
sizes (volume) it may also help avoid having to ship via pallet, expecially if
they are not used to dealing with large shipments. It all depends on circumstances,
so just giving alternatives.

Why does part number 3070B have an incorrect part number in the name ??

It looks like there was an un-approved attempt to change the name.

Normally, Bricklink likes to completely obliterate old part numbers when they
get changed, but in this case, the wrong part number appears in the name of another
piece. Completely Illogical, Captain.

Please fix this by removing the 3070 from the name of 3070B

____

[p=3070b]
This was an attempt several months ago to make the most common version of the
part searchable for those who did not know there were multiple versions of the
part and were simply searching for the official LEGO part number:

https://brickset.com/parts/design-3070

But since it appears to add further confusion, I have removed the reference.

I thought it was a good idea, as searches for 3070 brought up both 3070a and
3070b indicating the two parts.

Removing this from just 3070b is not a good idea. Shouldn't all occurrences
be removed as now a search for 3070 will return the old version 3070a but not
the common 3070b. That is more confusing.
