Exactly. But note that it’s only “as far as I know.”
The only info we, members, received about it all works has been summarized here:
https://www.bricklink.com/help.asp?helpID=2457
The algorithm only gives an ‘optimal’ solution for its definition of ‘optimal’:
juggling with weighted values (costs, evaluated shipping, ‘good store’) and cutting
corners.
I’d first try Auto-select to see the stores it proposes, then I’d clear the selection
and check the stores where I have a coupon (clicking on their Select button).
If they look like good selections, you can select them (even remove a few parts
from the selection), and then use Auto-select to get the rest of the parts and
see if the new solution is better (once the coupons are applied).
You need to ‘play’ with Auto-select. Sometimes it finds better results if it
has fewer lots to search, sometimes it’s when it has more.
(You can (de)select items by using the Wanted Items tab on the left.)

|
Coupons are applied (buyer has to choose to apply them) during checkout.
The “Coupons” filter on the Buy page is only to sort the list of stores so that
stores where you have a coupon (or stores that you favorited) bypass the global
sort option and are always shown on top of the list.
That’s for _your_ convenience. AFAIK, Auto-select has nothing to do with it:
it chooses stores for their parts and prices… but it doesn’t give a preference
to stores with a coupon.
IOW, Auto-select obeys the filters but this is not a filter, it’s a sort option.

At the check out, 3rd phase, when selecting Payment mode, go down especially
if many payment modes are available, there is a dropdown select box to pick up
and use the Coupon.
Coupons aren't selected by default, this is a MAJOR pain on BrickLink.
I did lost tens of euros or maybe more in coupons not use because I always forget

Thanks!

| Read those, but it seems that you can only restrict what items the coupon can
be used for rather than make one coupon that offers X% for parts, Y% for Minifigs
and Z% for sets.
It's entirely possible I'm confusing someones "sale" post for
a coupon I received.

| Wishing you all the best for 2023, I too am glad to see the end of 2022.
The future awaits us all, let’s make it what we want for us and others.
Spending time here on the forum has been and is still a great distraction, it’s
much much more too, makes me smile most days
Happy New Year.

I look forward to leaving the year behind to start on a more constructive and
perhaps happier new year. Gotta feeling 2023 is going to be a good year, folks!
Had some deeply felt loss and hardship this year and it seemed every time I looked
outward on the world for distraction or respite from my own heartache, all that
I saw was the hardship for others. Believe it or not, for much of 2022, this
forum has been a small space of saneness and a sanctuary for me. Thank you all.
If anyone would like a $5 coupon as a gift, just let me know. It’s not much of
a gesture, but it’s my way of saying thanks. If there’s any other consideration
I can offer from our store, please let me know what that might be as well.
Gonna celebrate with those I care about most tonight. Who knows really in their
hearts, what they’ll be celebrating. But for me, it’s closing the book on 2022
to continue more fully the writing of my new chapter in life. Which I got a jump
on, months ago. Okay, I cheated

| Indeed. I guess I was hoping for (b) for the times when different parts are

Doesn't seem too tough to work around though. Thanks!

There isn't a way to do (b) as far as I know, so you would have to do (a),
with the caveat that a 10% reduction from 10% off is only 19% overall. You could
give the customer an 11% off coupon to get closer to 20% off.

I think the problem is not so much the math as it is understanding how discounts

Problem is: many people of your same exact age hardly read or write, can't
calculate and are gratuated of zilch. They still have the right to order LEGO

But sure Sellers must have many roles... sometimes it's really exhausting.

I think the problem is not so much the math as it is understanding how discounts
work.
In this case, the discounts are applied one at a time, so it is 10% off the 85%,
which would be 76.5% of $80 which is $61.20.
However, in other situations, discounts are stacked, so it would be 10% off plus
15% off which is 25% off. So $60.

It doesn't matter if the feedback is positive, nuetral, or negative, so I
don't run afoul of rules about purchasing positive feedback (not that I've
had anything but positive feedback). It says on the coupon that it's good
for all items and is in addition to any current sale.
So this weekend I have a sale going that's 15% off all parts. I get an email
from a user complaining that he's not getting the 25% off. After some back-and-forth
trying to understand the issue, he said he did the math, and his $80 order (before
sale prices) should be $60 when it's coming up as $61.20. I spent half a
dozen emails explaining that the coupon is working off the sale price, it's
not cumulative. I'm still not sure he understands, he hasn't completed
the order and his last email said "I'll have to think about it, but I think
it's dishonest." Sigh.
I'm really surprised the buyer took note of the original prices before the
sale, I don't know that I've ever had a buyer mention it. Not sure if
the coupon is worth it. I'm new to BL but have used the same strategy on
various other platforms, such as ebay, etc., to encourage buyers leaving feedback.
Not a big deal overall, and certainly a one off (I hope) but it cost me about
3 hours of doing other things for the store. And thre's someone out there
that thinks I'm "dishonest."

A lot of people do not know how multiple discounts work. Find a google article
of some sort that explains it. I have always seen multiple percentage discounts
working done just as you did the sale.

Ask them to put the code in the comments and submit the order manually (that
is, w/o Instant Checkout). Then you can apply the credit and send the invoice.

You're welcome
Almost didn't pick-up on your italicized ass in assumption
For those that might've missed the English wordplay, it's drawn from
an adage that goes something like: To assume, can often make an ass (out
of) u (and) me
Good rule to consider, nonetheless. Always advisable being careful of coming
to conclusions from assumptions.

Coupons apply to what’s termed within the Order Summary, as Order Total
Keep in mind…
“If you specified a coupon limit to specific item type then the order total
used to calculate the percentage off will be the total of all items in the order
which are the specified item type and not the order total of all items in the
order”
|
Thank you for your answer. That is what I was thinking, but as I mentioned I
never like to make an assumption.

| Question for the experts out there: what total is the coupon applied to? Is it
to just the parts total, parts & shipping, or parts, shipping, and tax?
Common sense says it should only be applied to the parts, since as sellers that
is really all we control the price of, but I never like to assume.
Thanks!

How do you do so if able.
Thank you

What you can do is tell them to put FAN in the order comments for 10% off and
checkout using manual invoice. That way you can target followers only and get
to find out some of who follow you (if they order).
Alternatively if you want to keep instant checkout payments then announce you
will give them a free widget if they use code FAN in the order comments.

As each coupon issued, requires an assigned code, it’s not possible to bulk issue.
Those you call "followers" are unknown to us sellers, targeting them individually
with coupon or offers, is undoable too.
What we’ve done in the past, is use our Notify Members feature, to offer
coupons to members who opted-in to receive announcements from us:
https://www.bricklink.com/contactList.asp
As well as strategic targeting of previous buyers with coupons.

I don't think you can.
Alternatively, simply decrease your prices instead of being in perpetual Sale
and sending Coupons ;D
My 1.8 cents (10% exceptional rebate!)
