I've seen a number of post-WWII US Aircraft Carrier MOCs on some of the popular
MOC sites. You might have more luck searching for a MOC for one of its sister
ships (Forrestal class) since the USS Independence has recently been reborn as
a Littoral Combat Ship CVL-22.

| Over the past few days I've stumbled across late in the day Forum posts with
a bunch of links off site to CBD products and other inappropriate content. Obviously
timed late enough in the day to try and get them ignored until the next morning.
When I see them, I file a Problem Forum Message Report in the Problem Center.

Within minutes the messages are taken down.
I'm sure others are also finding and filing similar reports.
Thank you Admins for working hard and reacting quickly to keep the Forums from

Have you tried using BrickStore?
1. Open a New File
2. Import the Set
3. Right Click on the Set and 'Part out Item...'
4. Use the Marker, Comment, & Remarks fields to track QtyOnHand, QtyNeeded, SpareParts
(I like having the text instead of relying on the Blue + in the Status)
Note: you can sort multiple columns by holding down the Shift key and selecting
the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, etc. column.
Below is a picture of how it looks for Set 75256 that I was auditing this morning.
I've thought about digging into the code for BrickStore to see if I can add
Audit Fields.
- QtyOnHand and QtyNeeded where QtyNeeded is Quantity - QtyOnHand.
|
Forgot to indicate, there is a lot you can do with the BSX file, as examples:
- Can be opened in Excel, you don't get the pictures and have extra fields.
- Strip out all the 'completed' parts and move the QtyNeeded value to
Quantity and you have a file that can be uploaded into a wanted list.

it seems like some sellers wait until the buyer leaves feedback before leaving
feedback. As a seller, what is your timeline for posting feedback?
|
This is like opening a can of worms . . . different perspectives from buyers
and sellers.
Many sellers waiting to post feedback until after the buyer's posts feedback
are almost expecting negative feedback and want to opportunity to have the last
word.
I recently had an interaction with a seller that is crying for a negative review.
I know he is waiting for me to post my feedback so he can use his to say how
bad a buyer I am.
You can't read his terms of service and blames the poor tools on Bricklink
for his inability to format them properly. Gosh, 99% of the sellers don't
have problems formatting their terms of service. If someone calls him out for
a mistake, it is never his fault and flames the buyer for being aggressive, unreasonable,
etc.
Life is too short to play his game.
I appreciate sellers who don't focus on their feedback. They do the best
they can to keep their customers happy and recognize not everyone will be 100%
satisfied nor will everyone provide feedback. As a seller did their best.
My dad built a multi-million dollar business from scratch. I learned from him:
- Treat your customers right and they will return the favor.
- Some customers will never be happy. Don't dwell on them, it takes your
focus off your other customers.
- Life is not always fair and there's nothing you can do to fix it.

| | Is TLG cashing-in on the AFOL and collectors marketshare, quicker than their
manufacturing QC can keep pace? Arguably, it's LEGO itself creating the space
or new marketplace, so maybe the behemoth in their push to expand in that direction,
just hasn't factored it yet?
Just some thoughts
|
Flip the equation around . . .
How much are people willing to pay for higher quality? Are AFOL's/Collectors
quality expectations in line with their cost expectations?
AFOLs/Collectors want every part to be perfect; printing, color consistency,
stickers, etc. My 5-year-old granddaughter cares about how easy it is to put
together and can she use her imagination to play with all her Leo sets together.
Lego is trying to produce an affordable quality product for a wide age range
and varied expectations on a common set of equipment.
If Lego ups the quality bar to meet the expectations of AFOLs prices will have
to increase. Higher prices will cut them out of a large portion of their youth
market.
The youth market is key to Lego's long-term success. Hook them as kids and
they will be customers for life.
I would question whether a portion of the secondary market is the real problem.
Seller's hiding behind the facade of an AFOL/Collector looking for the perfect
rare or ultra rare Lego so they can flip it for an unrealistic price. They get
a part/set with a minor factory blemish or misprint then make sure everyone knows
they've been wronged. To them the issue is the belief it will impact their
pocketbook.
A true AFOL/Collector knows there are variations in the parts, printing etc.
Adding the set to their collection then sharing the intricacies of the set with
their fellow AFOLs/Collectors, family and friends is where they get their pleasure.
As I write this, I realize there is another segment that could be contributing
to a perceived quality problem. Collectors of a specific theme (Star Wars, Harry
Potter, Disney, Super Heroes, etc.) with a secondary interest in Lego but a desire
to have all the toys associated with their theme of interest. They'll spend
whatever it takes to complete their collection and don't understand the realities
of the Lego production process.
My random after midnight thoughts . . .

for 16 years.
And OF COURSE, I'm talking about a minor miss; if a Seller's missing
1/3 or 1/2 of the order he SHOULD contact the Buyer first.
Those were my 2 missing parts cents.
|
Well said . . .
I've faced this issue recently with a couple orders. Both times the seller
contacted me and wanted to know what to do. In both cases I told them just to
refund the list cost of the parts even though they offer 2x or more.
As a buyer, I should be respectful of the sellers' time and recognize mistakes
happen.
A year ago, I did have a seller cancel the order when they realized they listed
a part in a semi-rare color in error. It was the one part I needed to complete
my 3451 Sopwith Camel. They understood and I've order from them since then.
If I go into the local hardware store to buy a dozen bolts and they only have
10, I don't expect them to pay me for the 2 they don't have. If I need
a specific bolt and the bin for the bolt has everything except the one I need,
then I go to another hardware store.
If we expect more in return than the value of the parts, then the seller is going
to have to make up the loss . . . most likely by raising prices.

The electronics and light bluish-gray top portion needs to be intact.
I didn't like how my Seahawks Holiday train looked last year. The height
of the battery box made the Coal Tender too tall.
I had a corroded battery box and did some modifications. It's now 1 brick
shorter and uses an external 9v Li-on rechargeable battery.
A friend has a 3-D printer and has offered to help make a replacement case so
the battery can sit inside. If it works as expected, it could help others building
Lego trains.
PM me if you have some damaged battery boxes so we can work out a price and handle
the sale properly via Bricklink.

It is for data mining. Anything that has been done here recently is only for
data mining, you are being used to gather data and then that data will be sold
to "partners."

The only Data Mining they can do with the info on this sight would be for Lego
internal use. The GDPR rules are pretty explicit in this area.

| | And that’s especially true if you work in JPEG (which loses info every time you
save).
(Better work in PNG from the start.)
|
Many people have a misconception about .JPG files. A .JPG file can be Lossy
or Loss-less.
The original JPEG format was Lossy in 2000 JPEG 2000 came out, which can be Lossy
or Loss-less.
Some applications have implemented JPEG 2000. The preferred file extension is
JP2 but some implementations use the JPG file extension.
Nubs video is offline so I couldn't see which application he is using to
know whether it is JPEG or JPEG2000 under the hood.
For large files you can usually tell which format is used. If the image initially
renders fuzzy then start gaining more detail, it is JPEG 2000.
In general, .PNG, .RAW, and .TIFF are Loss-less. .JPG can be Loss-less or Lossy.
But then you can start talking about color space . . . 8-bit, 16-bit, 24-bit,

I'm not sure how it is in the states, but here in the UK customer feedback
is hugely important in bricks and mortar retail.
As a retail manager in my main job, my store target is 80% of our feedback being
9 or 10 out of 10. If I don't hit this, my bonus is crippled, irrespective
of how high my sales are.

|
In the US it seems like Customer Service is 4th in line behind; 1. Profit, 2.
Profit, 3. Profit.
But you hit on another angle to feedback: Country and Cultural norms.
My comments are written from the perspective of American culture and business
which has evolved in a negative direction during my lifetime.
It is important to hear the perspective of others to find the right middle road.

|
| | I sent two messages to buyer, both on Bricklink and to his email address but
got no response after 8 days.
Any solution/idea?
|
There are other perspectives to feedback.
I've been doing a lot of thinking about online feedback systems lately.
Most of them seem to be inherently unfair to both parties in the transaction.
The seller is dependent on near perfect feedback to avoid negative consequences.
Buyers are expected to give feedback and it better be positive or you risk becoming
the subject of a discussion thread.
On Bricklink the nature of the feedback system doesn't allow a true neutral
feedback. When you click on Positive, they are prompted to enter "Praise".
For some, Praise implies you went above and beyond the expected level of service.
The other options are Neutral or Negative both perceived as negative. How do
I tell a seller, "Thank You, you met my expectations?" (You didn't go above
and beyond to earn praise.)
When you go to the grocery store or other retail merchant . . . Do you take time
to give them Praise for efficiently handling your check out and bagging the items,
so nothing gets damaged? Or are you mentally on to the next task that you need
to complete before you have to get home to fix dinner, clean, watch your favorite
sports team, etc.?
Based on my experience purchasing here on Bricklink, I would like to give neutral
feedback more often. Between 20-25% of my orders have been missing a part, one
or more parts are the wrong color, etc. It has always been $1 or less in value.
Every one of the sellers has been great when I contact them and I would use
all of them again.
Based on the general belief that neutral = bad seller and the harm to them it
would cause neutral feedback is not an option. Additionally, unless a seller
is trying to rip me off, the transaction is between the seller and myself, not
everyone that reads the forums.
I have purchased from a number of sellers with Neutral and Negative feedback
but I look at both sets of comments. When I review a sellers' responses,
I am asking myself, "Are they going to be easy to work with if a mistake happens?"
Some basic thought I try to keep in mind:
1. Mistakes happen, any response should be proportionate to the mistake.
2. People will have a different definition of proportionate.
3. A kick in the butt on occasion is not a bad thing.
4. Not every action requires an explanation.
5. Life is too short to sweat the small stuff.

Sorting:
1. Pull out all of the large plates, bricks, lift arms, etc.
2. Use two different 'sifters' to sort the parts by similar size.
3. Wash the Lego and dry on home built drying racks.
4. Sort the similar sized bricks into the different parts.
5. Inventory and put the Lego into storage.
Storage:
- Akro Mils type bins
- Akro Mils type part cabinets
- Sterilite 3 drawer cabinets
Pre-sorting/sifting gets part down to similar sizes and reduces the variety when
doing the final sort and inventory steps.
The Eisco sifter has smaller holes than the Box4Blocks so I can get all the 1x1
parts separated from the other parts. The Box4Blox aren't currently being
made. I got my both of mine @ Value Village for
My home-made drying rack is 3/4" plumbing pipe and fine mesh mosquito netting
similar to a sweater drying rack only much larger; will hold about 25-30 lbs
of Lego. The netting along with a fan provides good circulation when drying.
A lot of my sorting and inventory work is done while watching the Sounders, Mariners,
Seahawks, Kraken, etc. I just put a sheet blanket down on a plastic folding table,
so the Lego don't echo on the table and annoy my wife.

Another option would be to mark the TLD (Top Level Domain) .CO as Junk
Then mark your Junk mail to 'Permanently delete suspected junk mail'
In the Outlook, the Junk Mail options allow blocking not only TLDs but also Character
Set Encoding used for other languages (Cyrillic, Chinese, etc).
Currently I have 50 email rules and 100+ TLDs/Character Sets blocked. There
is a limit to the amount of space email rules can take up. I used to hit the

I checked with a friend who is doing the drywall for our remodel . . .
A 2,500 square foot home has approx 11,500 sq ft of drywall.
So as long as your house is under 10,000 sq ft, it should be enough 4x4 yellow

The $6 shipping is in the text above the shipping table.

I would figure out how to make your shipping info clearer.

me for a time of day (I'll let you convert into UTC) it would be at 3pm MST

I hope the seller who has the order with the ID number of 20,000,000 will chime

| | Wow, that is the best color chartI have ever seen. How did you print the names
with
The color as a background ?
|
I used the Blue Dot method. (for Nubs_Select & 1001Bricks)
Actually . . .
There are several references to the RGB or HEX values for the Lego colors. When
I used values from the reference charts, I wasn't getting the expected colors
when printed.
I have a Colormunki spectrophotometer for doing color matching, along with monitor
and printer calibration for my embroidery work.
Used the Colormunki Photo to capture the HEX values for Lego parts I thought
best represented each color. (Compared to the color reference charts, my HEX
values are a bit different)
After creating a grid in excel, I colored the background of each cell, then printed
and put together my board.

I should think eBay had better be trusted; PayPal owns them (or did a couple
of years back). In any case, eBay has buyer protection.
|
Actually, eBay acquired PayPal in 2002 then spun it off into its own company
in 2014. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PayPal
Keep an eye on Craigslist for the Akro Mils drawers. I see them every couple
of weeks here in the Seattle area.
I have a mix of Acro Mils, Harbor Freight, and other brands. Even some of the
older metal Akro Mils units.
Since some of the parts drawers were used, they had scratches, discoloration,
etc. and were 5 or 6 different color combinations.
A coat of Rustoleum Universal Hammered Metal and they blend together nicely.

| Life is way too short to get your knickers in a bunch for $0.60 on a $50 order.
The seller did right by refunding your money.
I can't expect a seller to walk on water when I haven't mastered that
feat yet.
If the mistake is under $1, many times I'll say, "Don't bother with the
refund." and give them a positive review. If the seller is making $18 an hour,
it costs them $0.30 a minute to handle emails, refunds, etc. I have too much
respect for their time.
On the other hand, if it was a few dollars and a blatantly obvious error, there
would be a serious email conversation.
Try to think of it from the seller's perspective. He made a mistake and
refunded your money. What more could/should he have done? Begged you for mercy?
Sent you a free Lego set? Chopped off a finger?
They are a businessperson trying to make money and know even in a perfect world
not every customer is going to be happy. Your email has given them another concern
to deal with.
Ugh, I have non-Lego items in my inventory.
How much is this going to slow me down on each order?
Should I go through my stock and make sure there aren't any others?
Which of my employee's do I need to talk to about this?

| I agree with everyone's points.
I'd bet it is a fraction of a percentage of sellers being creative
in how and what they list for sale. It isn't too difficult to spot them
and like Yorbrick pointed out it's easy to Least Favorite them
and move on.
The intent is to let sellers know, you can be doing everything right but still
get caught off-guard if you don't know the e-commerce and marketplace rules
that apply to your place of business. A simple mistake can wipe-out months of
profits.
In my friend's case, what started out as a few small items became a legitimate
side business making over $10,000 a year. He never thought about the taxes imlications
or business requirements.
Government entities are realizing people can make a significant income via ebay,
etsy, and other marketplaces. They are trying to figure out how to regulate it
while shady characters are taking advantage of people. The impacting to their
tax base and citizens they represent has them scrambling to put rules in place.
I read a report by the US Chamber of Commerce. They estimate 12.4% of all sales
occurred with online retailers. Imagine if you lost 12.4% of your income. It
makes sense why governments around the world have put rules in place to tax sales
on the marketplaces.
Enough rambling . . .

| In the past few weeks, I have run into some fun things people do when they are
having a sale.
Last week the price was $10.
Over the weekend a 27.85% off sale and the price is $10.32.
Today there is no sale going on and the price is $10.
In more than one state in the US it is a violation of consumer laws. You cannot
raise prices, then advertise a sale that results in the price being the same
or higher than the pre or after sale prices. Fines can be in the thousands of
dollars.
Personally, I don't care if you do this type of pricing. I price track Lego
items over $5-7 that I am going to buy and have a list of stores that won't
get my business no matter how big a sale they are having because I know they
game their pricing.
I point it out as a warning that it not just sales tax laws that we have to follow
if we are selling on a marketplace platform. The consumer laws in your State/County/City
have to be followed or your business could become quite costly.
I have a friend who was selling craft items on an online platform. One of their
customers was not happy with an order and didn't like PayPal's resolution
so they filed a complaint with the county they did business in. It cost them
over $5,000 when the county/state was done. Multiple years in business without
a business license, B&O taxes for 3 years + fines for not having paid the B&O
taxes.
It wasn't just the federal government that pushed for the $600 IRS reporting
rules.
