Cool find!
Hi, welcome to BrickLink!
You can trade with the sellers on BrickLink, but the forum barely gets a trickle
of the total daily traffic. All the big dogs and truffle hunters browse the catalog
and/or use Wanted Lists to find stores. Opening a store lets you notify all the
collectors looking for that minifig.
(sw0472 is currently on 4937 Wanted Lists)
If you have other stuff available, you could list everything below average prices
(less value = reduce less). Then break into a smile, laugh evilly, and raise
your minimum buy to whatever you were hoping to get from the big ticket item.

For his part in helping stave-off the evil/darkness that grew in Middle Earth?
And for perhaps after being asked to voluntarily give up the corrupting ring
of power which he possessed for decades, he did?
Elrond and Gandalf would both have known somewhat of that cost for Bilbo. That
although he’d find peace of mind, his body would suffer the effects accelerated
aging. Rivendell with Elrond’s unparalleled Elvish gift of healing, was probably
the one place he could find some amount of bodily comfort before joining the
Elves on their passage. That was the real gift for both Bilbo and Frodo, passage
into the undying lands.
For those that enjoy the works and worlds of Tolkien, read The Silmarillion.
Little more difficult a read, but a beautifully rich story! It was published
posthumously by his son much later than The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings books.
I read it twice just after it was made available in book stores, in Stockholm
at the time.
|
+1
And re-read the Lord of the Rings! 50 year-old Frodo is the best hobbit and there's
entire chapters the films had to leave out, and The Return of the King has Saruman's
alternate ending (and half-filled with side stories).

I think a certain kinship existed between all Ring-bearers. Even when friendship
and hospitality were not especially earned; Galadriel to Frodo; Frodo to Smeagol.
Elrond allowed the One Ring to be claimed by Men, and may have felt responsible
for how things turned out. And Bilbo, for his part, gave all of Middle-Earth
a second chance.
| Will Elrond put up anyone who will follow the rules?

If you speak in Orcish, he replaces the continental breakfast with a crumb of

I might be missing the mark here, but I love the principle of internal affairs.
Protecting a rising consciousness from our own predatory instincts. Including,

I don’t really agree with that, or that depends on whom you label “scientists.”
Open source is the fundament of science: you share what you do, how you do it,
with what you do it.
Grafted on that is the people who pay the scientists and want something in return
or want to know how/to whom to distribute the money. And those people are therefore
interested in technology and applications, not science, and there you get patents
and secrets.
As for artists, well all the artists train by looking at and reproducing others’
arts (works for paintings or books). Then they find & do their own things and
add their creativity… or not, when they found the “cash recipe” and rehash the
same work / story over and over.
Those AIs do exactly as the latter: they are trained on what exists, find the
recipe (in a totally obscure way for us) and produce similar things over and
over.
|
*open sourcing profitable discoveries
**not scientists
By foreign, I meant tourists to the concept. Glued-to-grant researchers aren't
known for sharing or enabling each others' breakthroughs (including medical
advances), except when an exasperated billionaire intervenes. Not to disparage
converting creativity to a paycheck, but to generalize - altruism is concurrently
a luxury expense.
The irony of the recent reproducing of *stolen* artwork is how much of our literature
and music is silently ghost-written by people whose jobs are to copy more successful
people. Adding robots to the ink grinder is just kills them faster than fame.

Thank you for wording it this way
Those AIs are indeed not answering questions, they are generating
text (or images) as a continuation of what precedes, mimicking answers, mimicking
a dialogue.
|
Imagine someday calling up a company and saying "speak to representative"
and it forwards you a smarter AI instead. That loops you in a conversation, while
it checks its database, shoots an e-mail to the technician, and comes up with
a satisfactory answer.
| They are like your phone’s keyboard app’s (or Google’s search bar’s) completion
on steroids. They don’t know anything and they even less understand
anything.
As such, they are reproducing what’s more probable to happen, that is, the average.
(And therefore they need to be “curated” because 80% of everything is crap.)
|
Curators. That's a good comparison. I think it's cool what it can and
could do ( https://www.bbc.com/news/technology-57588270 ), but understandably
alarming to living artists. Open source culture is foreign to artists and scientists.
(Modern day "Patrons" are unanimously uninterested in higher pursuits.
Unless you consider e-girl entrepreneurs as post-human/transhuman.)
| | […]
I'm flabbergasted by Chat GPT. What seemed unlikely 30 years ago (for example
in science fiction films) is now just everyday reality.
|
Well, in movies / books, the AIs know things and think. There’s
no thinking or even knowledge here.
(One could argue there’s knowledge in the sense that the AI “knows” how to make
sentences… but it’s not organized knowledge, it’s fine-tuned reflexes.)
| I am personally convinced that it will not be long before we can no longer differentiate
between real people and robots.

-Something was likely off with their inventory and they went through you, because
of your selection and pricing, to try to keep their customer happy.
-What would the difference be if they had it shipped to themselves, then reshipped
it to their buyer? No difference for you, but they were maybe trying to avoid
paying postage twice.
Also, they are likely to leave retaliatory negative feedback which affects you
as a seller more because seller FB carries more weight than buyer FB does.
Ultimately, it's up to you. The market and product selection is robust enough,
imo to consider fellow sellers as friends, not evil competing enemies. I'd
have used that opportunity to be overly nice and helpful, maybe make a friend
that could help you out in the future.

Maybe raise your prices, slightly? Otherwise they would (pay shipping twice)
buy from you and re-sell.
On the other hand, inventory mistakes happen. Could be a seller trying to fulfill
their buyer's order and completely unrelated to dropshipping or profit.
But that's usually a favor between larger sellers, and it's not as straightforward
as shipping to a PayPal address. If there's no issues with their recent feedback
or wording, I would do it, personally.
Hypothetically, in the future, if you don't trust them, I would suggest they
give you credit from their store for the exact amount (plus shipping). Then have
the buyer place an order in your store. Business is business.

1. Can you kindly point me towards a related LEGO online resource?
2. To confirm, would this fall under seller ToS?
All parts listed in your store must be genuine LEGO parts in their original,

3. 90s chrome silver parts = ABS plastic & chromium coating?
4. Best method for minimal damage? Ferric chloride (chemical etching)?

Giraffes' North American cousins are the deer-sized Pronghorn, which outcompeted
the North American cheetah. Previously in Australia, their apex predator, before
people entered the server, was the marsupial lion, Thylacoleo, which fed on Aussie
herbivores (massive kangaroos). But apparently all the animals in Australia accelerate
by hopping, including Thylacoleo's lil bro, the Thylacine. So this big (marsupial)
cat chose to ambush its bounding bounty, from trees, like a jaguar. And possibly
formed a tribal memory in aborigines that created the legend of the DROP BEAR.
Now that there's no more killer koalas in Australia (we hope), giraffes are
only a swim (or a reported higher crime rate) away from decently nice real estate.

| Just a heads up. If you reserved yours on Nov 15 and were waiting to adjust it
before changing your BL username, you can try again tomorrow.

| Hi Thomas,
You can't go wrong with needlenose pliers to hold the crack open, a water
based glue (Selleys Kwik Grip), and a clothespin as a clamp. For larger cracks:
Fold a strip of sandpaper to file the sides beforehand.
I've also considered liquid pigment mixed with a "thin" plastic cement or
adding filler Lego to a strong solvent (MEK), then brushing that on the sides.
With older minifigs and brittle colors, I'll sometimes go ahead and break
the arms preemptively; to reduce total stress on the torso. I'm also one
of those people who think technique makes a difference. Some remove hands to
avoid cracking arms. I like the leverage. My preferred method is to pinch the
torso on both sides of the opening (left hand), rest the arm (behind and perpendicular)
in the socket (right thumb), slightly tilt outwards, then firmly and quickly
pop the arm into the torso. -Caleb

| This is where buyers need to be careful and check both listings. And sellers
do too. I often spot with Advent figures that it would be better for the seller
to sell a sealed "set" as a figure, even if it comes with an accessory. Or better
still, part it out into the figure and the gun or whatever it comes with. Sometimes
the price for the figure can be higher as there is more demand, because of "lazy"
buyers just wanting the figure and not checking the set. Or better still, if
you have enough of them list as both the set and the figure and shift stock depending
on what sells best.
By minifigure polybags, I mean polybags with exactly one minifigure and nothing
else, where the set is the minifigure (plus packaging) and vice versa. Not CMFs.

I guess, if nothing else, it's a reward for buyers who are willing to learn
more about the catalog. Thanks for your input.

Yes. Only for Advent calendar minifigs and their subsets. And especially for
identical items (no extra parts or accessories). I couldn't find a subset
that broke the pattern of being on less Wanted Lists (20-40%) compared the minifig
entries. Seems odd to me. Adding relationship links could improve their visibility?
Is that more work than it's worth?

I realize it sounds redundant, but minifigs usually come in at least one set.
It's not the same as pointing out the minifigure polybags that are close
to the same price point.
From a buyer's pov, if you search by "Catalog: Minifigures: Star Wars", it's
easy to overlook the near-to-identical Advent counterparts. There's a difference
in demand with CMFs. Certain sets sell better or worse than their minifigs, but
that's not the case with Advent sets (that are essentially licensed themes
ie. Star Wars CMFs).
|
If you start to have special rules for advent sets, there are also other sets
that need changing (single figure polybags, motors and electrical parts, etc).
|
That's fair. Not trying to turn a solution into a spill.

| Ho ho ho,
I noticed Advent Sub-Sets are always on far fewer Wanted Lists, listed less,
and sold in smaller quantities than their minifigure counterparts.
Sealed polybags or not, the prices are very comparable. I understand if buyers
are avoiding additional parts or accessories, but that doesn't explain the
equal vacancy for non-exclusive minifigures.
Are casual buyers missing out?
Suggestion: Update the festive figures with new relationship links.
