I'm sure there are other reasons that we don't know about. This is a
difficult time, with difficult decisions to make. No solution will satisfy all.
Our current events are a prime example that actions have consequences that affect

To my knowledge there is currently no payment platform that will transfer funds
between Russia and the US. I will ask about UnionPay, though, and see what options
they provide.

If the truth be told Bricklink/Lego are already being somewhat diplomatic about
their decision making for obvious reasons as they are an inclusive non political
organization.
However a lot of other organizations are being a lot more blunt as to why they
are imposing restrictions and so if you read between the lines it’s pretty clear
that many of these worldwide restrictions are intended so as to restrict funding
to your governments war effort rather than to intentionally hurt the Russian
people. Nobody wants to see the Russian people suffer yet only the Russian people
can decide whether they are willing to accept the path your government is taking
you down. No Mcdonalds might be easy to live without, No Bricklink less so, However
No livelihood/poverty well that might be intolerable for anyone and so isn’t
that the whole point?
i.e The realization that you deserve better from your own Government? A government
that truly thinks about its people rather than one mans dream!

Ukrainians have already lost everything and so are already having to fight for
what they want and at some point the Russian people may start to feel the same
way?

We have paused shipments of products to Russia given the extensive disruption
to the operating environment.

We care deeply about the lasting impact on children and together with the LEGO
Foundation and Ole Kirk’s Fond, we will donate DKK 110 million (approx. USD 16.5
million) to emergency relief efforts, with a focus on providing support for children
and families. The donation will be made to existing partners, including the United
Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), Save the Children, and the Danish Red Cross.

This is a volatile and constantly evolving situation which we are monitoring
closely.
What does this mean for BrickLink?

The global payment platforms we use on BrickLink are currently not available
in Russia and deliveries to and from the country are severely disrupted. Given
this, buying and selling activities in Russia will be temporarily deactivated.
Members impacted by this will be informed individually.

We are grateful for everyone in our community and never imagined we would face
a situation such as this or witness the heartbreak and devastation we’re seeing
in Ukraine.

Please continue to adhere to our community guidelines and show each other respect
and support.

Thank you for your understanding.
The BrickLink team

Will items from Russian stores continue to remain visible when looking at the
catalog? That would seem a tad strange, as there is currently no way for buyers
to purchase those items. It's almost like those items don't exist at
all for now.

Well, what do you expect them to do considering current events? It's not
exactly easy (or possible in some cases) to exchange money and items with Russia.
And it seems like Russian sellers have no way to pay their fees currently, so
that adds a problem too.

Russians could sell to other Russians without postage or payment problems, and
they have continued to be allowed to do so all this time. It seems it is the
not being able to pay the fees issue that caused the action here.

Exactly, which is why I understand BL restricting Russian to Russian sales also;
because the sellers wouldn't be able to pay their fees.

I have always been for Bricklink and believed that it was
an independent platform!

It is not independent. It is an American company owned by a large multinational
company based in Denmark. There have been policy changes to align it with LEGO
since LEGO bought it. Unlike McD and similar companies that run as franchises
in Russia, there is no Russian subsidiary that you can deal with that will keep
operating. You cannot use the service because you cannot pay to use the service
due to financial sanctions imposed by most international companies and banks.

Isn't that a dangerous thing to do? So far, as I see it you risk 15 years

it must be like to live like this... it must be frustrating and frightening..

I didn't think I'd get this kind of

In general, this is not a reason to turn off Bricklink in Russia due to payment
systems. It's not the Lego fans' fault!

If you close Bricklink, Favorite Cubes will find a way out and we will continue
to trade on or off Bricklink. But a huge number of Lego fans will not do this,
you will simply lose them! Silly! This is Bricklink's stupidest decision

You will change the attitude of good people who are fans of Bricklink and Lego!

Ok, Russell. Thx.

We work hard last month and open Limited Liability Partnership in Kazakhstan.
This gave us a chance to continue working with our foreign customers. Now we
will move the Bricklink Store to this country. There are all the necessary documents
and an address to confirm the existence in this country.
Admin_Russell, I and all guys from Favorite Cubes kindly ask you to make the
address change confirmation fast, as we cannot wait 1-2 weeks.

.
This seems like a major change for your shop, are you moving all stock to the
new place in Kazakhstan? Are you also moving yourself to Kazakhstan and live
there?

1. Will buyers from Russia be able to buy domestically?
2. Will buyers from Russia be able to buy outside the country?
3. Will buyers outside the country be able to buy in Russia if the payment system

If you read the statement, the answers are no, no and no.

The issue here is can you pay your fees? Yes, you can keep selling to other Russian
buyers (at least while you have stock, as LEGO have halted shipments to your
country) and they can pay using a domestic payment method. But can you pay for
using the service? With all regulated international financial systems blocking
money moving in and out of Ryssia, you cannot. It may seem stupid, but is it
fair on other sellers if they have to pay fees whereas Russians can build up
large debts without paying.

If you would like to change the country your store is associated with, you will
need to change the main address on your account first:

https://www.bricklink.com/pref_address.asp

Then, you would need to change your store address, which is found on your store
management page:

https://www.bricklink.com/v2/mystore/management.page

After changing countries, you would need to go through the New Seller Verification
process again. This would require proof of address in the new country.

(typos corrected)

Lesson learned, it’s totally pointless to ask about laws and regulations on this
forum, nobody would take the responsibility for false information.

It's not the real problem.
I'm not even sure of this info at this point; but this to YOU to search and
be sure.

The other point is WHY?

I mean, OK say you've 5% or 10% fees and shipping, it's not going to
make a big difference (apart if you're really close to this threshold of
10K€).

If you really wish to stay under the threshold, and if you're not rarely
selling International, it's going to be VERY complicated.

Suppose on October you're at 7950€ and you get a 2000€ order.
You're now at 9950€!

So, you will have to close your shop for the 2 remaining months in order
to stay above.

Is this really how you want to manage it?

We explored a range of options, including whether it was possible to keep stores
open, but decided the best approach for now, given that global payment platforms
are unavailable, was to temporarily deactivate stores.

We have paused shipments of products to Russia given the extensive disruption

We care deeply about the lasting impact on children and together with the LEGO

This is a volatile and constantly evolving situation which we are monitoring

That was the proper move that peoples in EU expected (I guess) from the LEGO
Group!

The Donation is an extra; but it'll be appreciated where this stupid destruction
needs to be rebuilt.

Those News are much appreciated here.
Thank you personnaly for your time, Tanja!

Excellent news. And good on LEGO for thinking about all the children and families
involved in this nightmare. The refugees need a lot of help and global support
right now. For anyone reading this, if you have the means, please consider donating
to help house and feed all of the displaced Ukrainian families that have had
to flee their homes.

Barando is an experienced seller and buyer on the site and has had an account

https://www.bricklink.com/feedback.asp?u=barando

We are thankful member Barando has taken this position and look forward to what
he can contribute to our Help Pages. Please join me in welcoming him!

Congratz barando!

Now that you are a translator, you may be help me out as I am sometimes in trouble.

When trying to translate from English to German and vice versa to communicate
with German sellers on Ebay, sometimes things do not go as expected. For example,
we have this part:

Part No: 4166 Name: Train, Track Sleeper Plate 2 x 8 with Cable Grooves
*
4166 Train, Track Sleeper Plate 2 x 8 with Cable Grooves
Parts: Train, Track
that is called "sleeper".

But sometimes, when I use translation from its German word, via google translation
page, it gets translated to something like "lovers"! Worst is when I put an English
text and sleepers gets translated to something I don't mean. I am not sure
to what word it gets translated and what word should be used in German, but can
you also help me out?

When you use Google Translate for translating a word that may have multiple meanings,
try to be more specific in what you are asking Google to translate. Having a
context is required for understanding and thus for properly translating.

Like "sleeper" - "Schläfer" - "sleeper (someone who sleeps)"
But "railway sleeper" - "Eisenbahnschwelle"
with "railway" - "Eisenbahn"
suggest it could be "Schwelle" which translates back to "threshold", so "Eisenbahnschwelle"
is the more appropriate translation.

Interesting you actually wrote a very serious comment but for what times do you
apply your sense of humor?

Expert Program, member Barando, as our new Translated Help Editor for
the German language:

https://www.bricklink.com/v3/member/community_experts.page

With 159 translated topics, the German Help Center is the largest of the translated
help centers, followed up closely by Czech, which has 156 topics.

Barando is an experienced seller and buyer on the site and has had an account
since 2014:

https://www.bricklink.com/feedback.asp?u=barando

To translate concepts or specialized equipement or even proverbs, I use wikipedia.

For example I searched in Dutch for the word: "dwarsligger" (literally translated
in English thwart)
https://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dwarsligger_(spoor)
found the English version by clicking for the language English
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Railroad_tie
Or clicking German
https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bahnschwelle

When you use Google Translate for translating a word that may have multiple meanings,
try to be more specific in what you are asking Google to translate. Having a
context is required for understanding and thus for properly translating.

Like "sleeper" - "Schläfer" - "sleeper (someone who sleeps)"
But "railway sleeper" - "Eisenbahnschwelle"
with "railway" - "Eisenbahn"
suggest it could be "Schwelle" which translates back to "threshold", so "Eisenbahnschwelle"
is the more appropriate translation.

Does the answer above stand for all EU member states?

AFAIK, yes.

costs and any additional fees are not the part of the 10K?

AFAIK, yes.

And BrickLink tells you so

Thanks Tanja, great reading (though it seems to me that a few answers are only
understandable if you already know the answer… ).

For the last question “What does it mean to be a ‘Global Marketplace Owner’,”
I think it actually was a very litteral question on the “owner” term / position.
Few non-native speakers or people not involved with international corporations
know “owner” does not only mean “proprietor” but also “skipper” or “leader”

Hi Yo_Yo_Flamingo,

There is now you can find it here: https://www.bricklink.com/help.asp?helpID=2526

  Dear all,

Today we have launched the ability for registered EU businesses to place business-to-business
(B2B) transactions on the Marketplace. This new feature will remove any VAT charges
for orders shipping to the EU.

In order to make use of this new feature, simply click on the 'Verify your
VAT ID' link under the Order Summary section to enter your valid VAT registration
number during checkout and VAT will be zeroed-out for applicable transactions.

If you are already an EU VAT-enabled business on BrickLink, your VAT ID will
be pre-populated and VAT zeroed-out when checking out, so you will not need to
enter it again.

Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns.

Okay, I like the sounds of this feature... Is there an information document anywhere
explaining what the feature is, how to use it, and who it is applicable to?

There's nothing to do from your side.

If a VAT seller in EU orders at your shop, he can use the B2B option, and then
won't pay VAT.

If he doesn't use it, he'll pay the VAT.

That's it, no difference for you; apart the payment you see, it will include
or not the VAT (vut in all cases the VAT isn't for you, PayPal takes it for
BrickLink).

Thank you for the succinct explanation!

But keep an eye on the users who use it, if they are not sellers that already
verified themselves it should ask for some kind of document verification, not
just the VAT number.

From what I read, as long as the VAT number is verified, it's fine for BrickLink
which takes the decision to "B2B" the transaction.

Transaction that the seller can refuse or even refund.

The actual Seller should ship to the buyers address that should correspond
to the VAT one in VIES.

It's his responsability and his own problem if he doesn't ship to the
VIES address...

IMHO

Yes, some sellers simply refuse, or ask an extra fee, or payment in their Currency
for example (which involves conversion fees)...

I just found something, from Teup's Country

https://www.belastingdienst.nl/wps/wcm/connect/bldcontenten/belastingdienst/business/vat/vat_in_the_netherlands/vat_relating_to_purchase_and_sale_of_goods/export_from_the_netherlands_to_other_eu_countries_intra-community_supply/

It says:

Do you export goods from the Netherlands to entrepreneurs in EU countries
other than the Netherlands? We call this as an intra-Community supply. These
supplies are taxed at 0% VAT. This represents an intra-Community acquisition
for the purchaser of the goods in the EU country to which the goods are sent.

So, it gives no choice: those supplies are taxed 0% VAT, dot.

That would be interesting to find an EU text, though.

Well, hard to know because I think they have a presence in every country, so
the intra-EU-import situation doesn't occur. But when I think about Dutch
webshops that ship to NL and Belgium, I can't really imagine they all have
a system to accommodate 0% VAT transactions.

But even if they have a right to refuse it, it would be nice if EU sellers could
at least choose to enable this feature in their store if they want to. That would
really save a bunch of hassle asking and answering "hey do you make 0% VAT invoices",
verifying the VAT ID on ec.europa.eu, removing VAT, and hoping the buyer didn't
already pay so you have to go and book a refund for the VAT amount, etc... it
could really boost B2B transactions within the EU if buyers can see immediately
that their B2B order will be accepted and even pay when checking out.

Yep, agree. This new feature is great news for American shops, but it would be
really nice if it applied to EU shops too. But for that, first we need to figure
out whether sellers are legally allowed to refuse doing 0% VAT intra-community
transactions. I don't think they are, and certainly not for a fee as some
are doing, but I'm really not sure about it... maybe someone knows?

I also think it may not be 100% legal to refuse (or overcharge), but I can be
wrong.
I couldn't find a precise text.

Here we always gladly accept B2B.

Ohh it's at the bottom, I didn't see it - got it.

But I confirm, it works for Import only (but it's already nice, thank you
!)

Ah oh - that's not very clear, as Teup wrote it only works for Imports (from
outside EU to EU)?

I was expecting B2B within countries inside Europe.

This last one feature I was expecting, and would greatly be welcomed!

Sylvain

It means extra administrative hassle and some sellers are not confident that
the tax agency is going to accept the 0% VAT transactions, so I do understand
the reasons why some sellers like to be able to refuse it.

Quick tests:

I tried in 3 different shops including Brick24, and couldn't see no "Verify

the check out (4th).

It's late, tired - please have a good evening!

Looks like it only works on stores outside the EU, I wonder why? I like how it
works, I think the same could be applied to EU stores, no? Or should stores be
able to refuse accepting them? According to the tax agency helpdesk here, it's
not something stores are allowed to refuse, but I've also seen on the forum
that intra-community transactions are problematic for sellers in certain member
states.

Dear popsicle,

We are aware of and understand the many requests for a similar solution for the
US. We are currently (and for a while) looking in to a possible solution for
the US, unfortunately it is not as straight forward as for EU and we are not
there yet.

We will be sharing updates related to this and other relevant topics in the quarterly
Marketplace newsletter.

I’m no longer one of them, but I do know what it’s like to deal with sales tax

Anyway - Suggestion Topic?

It has been a suggestion topic lots of times. I just wanted to put it where
a panel member might see it again if it isn't already being discussed.
