The LEGO Group released the following statement regarding the war in Ukraine.
Our thoughts are with all the children and families suffering as a result of
the war in Ukraine.
Our priority is the safety of all our colleagues. We are in contact with our
Ukrainian team and are providing ongoing support to ensure their safety. We are
also working to support other colleagues around the world impacted by the escalating
crisis including our team in Russia.
We have paused shipments of products to Russia given the extensive disruption
to the operating environment.
We care deeply about the lasting impact on children and together with the LEGO
Foundation and Ole Kirk’s Fond, we will donate DKK 110 million (approx. USD 16.5
million) to emergency relief efforts, with a focus on providing support for children
and families. The donation will be made to existing partners, including the United
Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), Save the Children, and the Danish Red Cross.
This is a volatile and constantly evolving situation which we are monitoring
closely.
What does this mean for BrickLink?
The global payment platforms we use on BrickLink are currently not available
in Russia and deliveries to and from the country are severely disrupted. Given
this, buying and selling activities in Russia will be temporarily deactivated.
Members impacted by this will be informed individually.
We are grateful for everyone in our community and never imagined we would face
a situation such as this or witness the heartbreak and devastation we’re seeing
in Ukraine.
Please continue to adhere to our community guidelines and show each other respect
and support.
Thank you for your understanding.

Well said Tanja.
Some sellers will be hurt, however it was the only humane decision Lego and Bricklink
could make. And the donation, generous. I respect Lego and Bricklink and Tanja
even more for making the donation and taking the hard steps that are necessary.
The stores in Russia will suffer, but the bigger picture, including the financial
means to exchange funds from stores, is much more important. Perhaps there is
a way to let Russian stores sell to buyers within Russia.
Anyway Tanja, it is commendable and refreshing to see Lego and Bricklink take
a stand.

Well, what do you expect them to do considering current events? It's not
exactly easy (or possible in some cases) to exchange money and items with Russia.
And it seems like Russian sellers have no way to pay their fees currently, so
that adds a problem too.

The Donation is an extra; but it'll be appreciated where this stupid destruction

Those News are much appreciated here.

Excellent news. And good on LEGO for thinking about all the children and families
involved in this nightmare. The refugees need a lot of help and global support
right now. For anyone reading this, if you have the means, please consider donating
to help house and feed all of the displaced Ukrainian families that have had
to flee their homes.

Please don't trust an adviser, read it on EU or your Country WRITTEN Laws/Regulations?

I’m not an expert of law and don’t want to read loads of pages hoping I’ll find
the needed info so it’s better trust someone who has the knowledge and knows
what he’s doing.
Lesson learned, it’s totally pointless to ask about laws and regulations on this
forum, nobody would take the responsibility for false information.

Congratz barando!
Now that you are a translator, you may be help me out as I am sometimes in trouble.
When trying to translate from English to German and vice versa to communicate
with German sellers on Ebay, sometimes things do not go as expected. For example,
we have this part:
that is called "sleeper".
But sometimes, when I use translation from its German word, via google translation
page, it gets translated to something like "lovers"! Worst is when I put an English
text and sleepers gets translated to something I don't mean. I am not sure
to what word it gets translated and what word should be used in German, but can
you also help me out?
|
When you use Google Translate for translating a word that may have multiple meanings,
try to be more specific in what you are asking Google to translate. Having a
context is required for understanding and thus for properly translating.
Like "sleeper" - "Schläfer" - "sleeper (someone who sleeps)"
But "railway sleeper" - "Eisenbahnschwelle"
with "railway" - "Eisenbahn"
suggest it could be "Schwelle" which translates back to "threshold", so "Eisenbahnschwelle"
is the more appropriate translation.
|
Interesting you actually wrote a very serious comment but for what times do you
apply your sense of humor?

To translate concepts or specialized equipement or even proverbs, I use wikipedia.
For example I searched in Dutch for the word: "dwarsligger" (literally translated
in English thwart)
https://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dwarsligger_(spoor)
found the English version by clicking for the language English
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Railroad_tie
Or clicking German
https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bahnschwelle
