My apologies if this has already been suggested.

It would be great if, in addition to showing favorited stores and those with
coupons first, you could also show stores in which you have open carts first.

My suggestion is, that when a user favorites a store, he or she should also have
the option to receive coupons from that store. This should get around any concerns
about privacy.

I like it! Voted yes

We could make a feature where one item could be casually sold without becoming
a store, offered on the forum or some other way, and the sale could be official
and register for fees and everything. Buyer would know it was different from
buying from an established store, but it would make it easier for someone who
just wanted to sell 3 sets from their childhood or just wanted to get rid of
a box of their children's used Lego. Right now someone just has to tell
someone in the forum that they'll have to make a store and I expect 98 times
out of 100, they shrug their shoulders and go to eBay or Craigslist.

They shelved auctions about ten years ago.

It would be a good idea for job lots but I guess the problem is that people might
use it to scam. If there is no seller verification (the barrier to open a store)
then it wouldn't surprise me if we saw lots of listings for UCS MFs and the
like. Similarly, people might try to use it to sell license based MOCs that are
not allowed on the site any more. So presumably someone would have to police
it to ensure that LEGO is not allowing the sale of anything not allowed on the
main site.

I imagine people might also list ones with missing pages as incomplete. Although
if there is a description of what is missing, it should not be too bad.

Of course the alternative is individual entries for each instruction book.

I have always made all my changes on the the order edit page along with completing
the drive through, seems to speed things up. So, I wish there was a leave feedback
link on the order edit page.

Requiring administrative assistance in restoring one's inventory is inconvenient
on both the seller and the BL team.

Remedy Option 1
To prevent strain on the infrastructure of constant periodic backups of everyone's
inventory, the backup would only initiate when a user enters their store's
inventory page, and limited to certain time intervals (once a day, once per hour,
or whatever the system can handle). The seller would have the option of self
initiate backup as needed.

Remedy Option 2
If the infrastructure cannot handle backups on their own system, perhaps Bricklink
can prompt user with an option to download inventory prior to deletion or major
changes being done to it, and self administer restore function.

Remedy Option 3
At the least, the system should require a re-login to the account when inventory
deletion function is selected to prevent accidental deletion of the store's
inventory.

The above options are no mutually exclusive and can be implemented in tandem
depending on what Bricklink system/team can implement.

Some very good ideas and thoughts!

Or maybe LEGO can see money in it. $5 a month for insurance against accidental
deletion.

If the customer still sees a red "paid" box with the check box open _after_ the
seller changed the order to "paid" - that sounds like a bug to me.

The issue is that offsite payments require the buyers to check the 'red'
paid box.
some buyers (specially new ones) mistakenly take this to mean that their offsite
payment didn't go through and re-submit payment for the second time (sometimes
even after the order was shipped) which creates more work to refund and with
the new paypal policy might also cost sellers extra fees.

It would be great if seller can manually check this paid box and switch it to
green in order to avoid this misunderstanding. i know we can mark the order paid
and shipped but a buyer yesterday in one of many examples wanted to make sure
they paid because they saw the box was red and ended up paying for the second
time.
Thanks for considering.

If you click on the edit order icon you get to change the payment status to paid/not
paid independently of the order status dropdown menu on you orders received page.

Does that help you in the meantime?

Sometimes buyers mark as paid (by ticking the paid box) when they havent - you
can change the status back to not paid on the edit order page in the same way.

I don't think i understand your answer, perhaps if you walk me step by step
then i might be able to understand better.
we change the 'order status'; drop menu to 'paid' or 'shipped'
but the buyer still sees a red checkbox next to the 'paid' checkboxes.
those checkboxed are not showing for me as a seller.
i do understand that buyers can check the 'paid' box even if they didn't
which is a different issue that doesn't really concern me however it would
be nice if the buyer checked the box accidentally if i was able to uncheck it-
but i don't want to sidestep the underline issue i raised initially:
Buyers that paid via link or sent a payment manually are not always aware that
it is up to them to check the 'paid' box to turn it green and mistakenly
think that their offsite payment did not go through and end up paying a second
time.
If i was able to check the box for or before they do and they would see it green
instead of red- it would reduce the occurrences of duplicate payments which has
been happening 1-3 time per month for us.

BricksThatStick is right, with this method you can check that box (separating
payment and order status in the settings and then change the payment status to
submitted or something like that).

But do you really need this? The box means "payment submitted" (not "paid") so
it is by definition a status update that only the buyer can make. The only thing
you can do from your side is verify the payment and update it to "paid". I don't
see why you'd want to update the status to "payment submitted", the buyer
can do this by themselves. The box can't be red if the order status is "paid".

Thank you, i'm going to try adjusting the setting to see if that works.
I agree that the buyer needs to change the box BUT in reality 1-3 times per month
i get a buyer (usually new) that doesn't know that it is their task and probably
believes that the system should have automatically change this to 'green'
paid status. when they see 'red' they believe that the payment they submitted
didn't go through and they pay a second time.

When a seller changes the drop menu to 'paid' or 'shipped' the
buyer still sees the paid box as red indicating unpaid (only when payment was

Thanks for taking the time to help, i'll let you know after i go through
the settings section.
Best wishes.

Ah I see, well, in that case it probably won't help much even if you change
it, because in such cases it seems like they are expecting realtime feedback
from the site. I include a standard instruction in my invoice asking buyers to
mark the order as paid after sending payment, might help too.
Probably good if Bricklink would improve the interface a little so that it is
clear for new users they need to do this. Best if it shows up in their to-do
items in the top right corner - that way they'd be more likely to understand
the system and more likely to do it.

Separating payment and order status can be done here by the way:

https://www.bricklink.com/orderSettings.asp?viewFrom=P

I am not 100% sure it corresponds to the checkbox, but I know that the grand
total showing up in a bold font on the seller's side corresponds to a checked
box at the buyer's side.

That does help!! Thank you!
I wonder if when i change the payment status to 'completed' would the
buyers box turn green?

https://www.bricklink.com/help.asp?helpID=121

Thank you, but the page doesn't address my question: if i (seller) change
payment status to 'completed' would the buyer still see a red box next
to his payment status or will that turn to green for the buyer?

https://www.bricklink.com/orderSettings.asp?viewFrom=P

I am not 100% sure it corresponds to the checkbox, but I know that the grand
total showing up in a bold font on the seller's side corresponds to a checked
box at the buyer's side.

That does help!! Thank you!
I wonder if when i change the payment status to 'completed' would the
buyers box turn green?

Not sure, but if it makes the grand show in a bold font on your side, then yes
(maybe you need to change it back to not separating order and payment status
to see bold grand totals? not sure)

We allow payment both onsite and offsite.

When a seller changes the drop menu to 'paid' or 'shipped' the
buyer still sees the paid box as red indicating unpaid (only when payment was
off Bricklink)

I would think, however, that the option actually should be reversed - the box
should only be changed by the seller? Which would indicate to me, the buyer,
that the seller received payment?

If the box was only handled by the seller, it could be removed, as there already
is another thing for payment status for sellers. The sole purpose of that particular
fields is exactly to allow the buyer to give a little bit of extra info to the
seller about payment process, when the payment method does not do it automatically.

The biggest problem, imho, at the moment is that BL help page content for the
"Paid" field behind the (?) icon does not match what is actually going on in
the Orders Placed -page.
https://www.bricklink.com/help.asp?helpID=121
Naming of fields and/or states, etc. Talking about quite a number of payment
statuses, yet we can only see red/green box with possibly a checkbox. That page
is useless and only confuses buyers.

The number of issues might be reduced if the (?) info actually described things
correctly and clearly.

There is another help page which was a little bit more helpful:
https://www.bricklink.com/help.asp?helpID=134
The last point seems to match what is actually working on the Orders page. However,
the whole page should probably change "You" to "Buyer" for clarity, and the last
point telling about "payment has been sent" might add some extra info on that,
as I think it does not explain all the possible situations correctly (or clearly).

Thanks! I do also think that it would be a good addition to the new view

Thanks, Bill for putting this up. I know we have had some great conversations
off-forum about this.

While I know that some may be opposed to the CAP I am glad that you posted it
to the community. I feel it may be one of the best ways for sellers to have a
better voice with BL. Currently, it seems that people send their request out
into the ether of the forum, some never to be heard except by other forum members.
Others scream and yell and get a response. The goal would be to have a group
who could gather concerns, ideas, and support from the community, and deliver
it in a cohesive manner to BL and TLG. The hope is that everyone's voices
will be heard, not just the loudest. Secondly, the hope would be that (in time)
BL and TLG may ask for feedback before things go public, so that a representative
group may help in identifying concerns before things go to a boiling point.

Have your tried with the payment status Returned or Bounced?

Sergio

Yes, I have tried both of those. If we had a status of rejected then the system
would need to be programmed to then allow a NPB. I've also reset the status
to pending.

Check the order received page settings to Separate the payment status from the
order status.
Change the Order status from Paid, then you can change the payment status as
none and start the NPB process.

instant check-out, but his payment was flagged to hold because it hadn't
cleared. Then PayPal rejected his payment. Because he went through instant check-out

the order.

I would like to see a status of REJECTED added to payments. I'm sure I'm
not the first one to have this problem.

You need to contact the help desk with this to get it set to NPB. Quote as much
of the transaction detsil as possible and add the notices from paypal as well.
Ideally BL should have picked up the mismatcb witb the unpaid BL_LIVE invoice.

However, you will not be able to change the payment method from paypal to stripe
or transfer. As far as I know, you need to cancel the order and the buyer has
to resubmit a different order for another payment method. You also cannot prevent
that specific buyer from using IC with paypal again. In the absence of those
controls, another status setting might not be of too much help.

Have your tried with the payment status Returned or Bounced?

Sergio

Yes, I have tried both of those. If we had a status of rejected then the system
would need to be programmed to then allow a NPB. I've also reset the status
to pending.

Will a status of rejected help?

If you cannot set to NPB, you cannot get your fees refunded as a non transaction

Surely you want to be able to access the NPB if there is a problem, not add another
option

  Hi

On the orders page, the grand total is Black, and when the order is marked as
paid by either buyer or seller it is Black, but Bold.

Is it possible to have these as 2 different colours for clarity.

Also it changes to bold when marked as paid, but when marked as Packed (which
happens after paid) if the buyer hasn't marked as paid, it goes back to original
type. Please can it remain at Bold.

Thanks

tpr

I have the payment status separated from the order status, that way when payment
is paid or complete it stays bold whatever you change the order status.

Greetings,

And what about the cases where you only have 1 of the booklets?
If there is still the number of total booklets then that could be very confusing
for buyer and seller.

It would be very useful to have this information (even if only 1 booklet is in
the set).

(I can't find in the Setting if this is possible at the moment).

Currently I see:

(Instructions) for Set 10229 Winter Village Cottage
Instruction No: 10229-1
(my remarks (item location etc.))

What I want is:
(Instructions) for Set 10229 Winter Village Cottage
Instruction No: 10229-1
(my remarks (item location etc.))
Booklets: 2

Thanks.

We are all aware of the new Community Expert program that has been introduced
aimed at the technical side of the site e.g. catalogue, inventories etc.

How about adding to that group with a community advisory panel, whose members
could help with the usability testing of new features as well as offering advice
on both direction and functionality for the site.

These would also be volunteers and a method for rotation could be put in place
to ensure no one individual dominated that side.

You could even have regional representation say USA, UK, Europe (or Germany,
France Netherlands, etc). This would help enormously on the variations that are
both desirable and needed for the site, as well as the legal requirements, postal
systems, etc.

It would, of course also help communications and community spirit.

I second this, and would love to be involved.

Can we get a "By State" drop down search box please ??
All the data's already there, we just need the filter added to sort it. It
should be an easy query to add to the search form

I buy and sell, and really like buying from local sellers, as the shipping is
usually 1-2 days at the most. Or some are even willing to meet you the same day
to come pick up parts. I met another local seller in my town searching for local
sellers, and she was totally cool with meeting u pto get parts. As would I if
someone was close enough.
If we could filter a single state, and sort by best price, BAM !! Instant parts
just about.

The current option kind of sucks... Go to the main sellers list, open every
store in your state in a new tab, and search every store for the parts you want.
WAY to slow !!

When you add an item to your wanted list, you can choose to have the system email
you when a match is added (it's Off by default). It's an opt-in system,
so only people who want those emails will get them.

If you are getting wanted item emails you don't want, go check your Wanted
List settings.

Play well,
Joel

Had that once with an order that did not get shipped. Was marked as Paid. Then
I issued NSS, good communication with the seller, problem solved, positive feedback
and everything good. But order status was set back to Pending after I removed
the NSS. And with this it still sits in my list. Would be really good if buyers
could change the status.

The reason why I'm wondering:
I'm sure there are members who logs in daily to see if another
member has reacted to their order('s invoice)/message, and are nervously
waiting until he/she/they react(s).

Be patient.

It will also be handy to see if a member (who placed an order on your store)
is active on BL and isn't responding to your multiple messages (or just ignoring),
and easier to decide to cancel an order.

If the buyer doesn't respond you should start the NPB-process and complete
it before canceling the order.

For example (my example):
There is a member (USA) who has placed an order on my store (Belgium) a few days
ago. I instantly filled in and sent the invoice to serve him and be able to send
the parcel (after payment) as quickly as possible. But until now, two days later,
he hasn't read the message nor has paid for the order. Now I'm just wondering
if he was active or not lately... cause the hole situation is making me nervous.
I know I should be patient... but I find it kind of weird he responded very quickly
to my last call for buying, and afterwards not responding anymore.

So if you recognize yourself in such a situation, maybe vote 'YES' and
perhaps selling on BL will be more pleasant and more serious. I'm sure there
is a lot of members thinking this way, isn't it?

Kindly greetings,

Yapke

From 1/1-2020 it is no longer possible to ship goods internationally in a letter

Professional dealers can still ship at a special rate using the online system.

But this online system requires filling in fields ´very strictly´ so street,
number, extra number, region, city, postcode.

We used to copypaste BL adresses, annd expected the local post to make the right
interpretation. But this is no longer possible.

Especially Asian adresses (S.Korea,Taiwan,Japan, China, Hong Kong) now gives
some questions, because it is not allways clear ´what is what´. Japanese addresses
come in the opposite order, sometimes there is as name or number, appartment
names and numbers that can be mixed up with a streetname, and there is the problem
that numbers come before streetnames on the label- streetnumbers are printed
AFTER the streetname. In many adresses it looks that things are mentioned twice,
but possible name of city and region are the same.

More postal administrations will adopt this new system thatis required by UPU,
(countries like USA will no longer accept and may even destroy shipments without
'prior notice of content', that's what postNL tells us) so this problem
would grow in the future.

In fact this requires a new way to display adresses ( "WITH LABEL") on brickink
to avoid `wrong` or incomplete adresses to be used.

Even more important because the lines on this label is limited and unneccesary
information pushes out important information from the line.

+1

It's good for two reasons - first to avoid mistakes as you describe, and
secondly, sellers automate the process in their own software, either with the
API or with CSV/Excel uploads. I want to do that too, but my software will only
be able to generate the right data if it in fact is told what is what. It saves
a significant amount of time doing it automated, but without clear fields, the
only way to do it is manually as it requires human common sense..

I'm sure it would be useful for more sellers than just the Dutch ones.

Yes I fully agree with this. And the importance of this will grow with the further
worldwide introduction of this electronic 'exchange' of shipping details.
So I hope we will get some more support to make some changes in the way Bricklink
displays the addresses. Fixed fields for all addres components is the best way
to achieve this.

Someday in the distant future, when we're all dead, they'll eject us

As already been noted, people don’t read the FAQ before posting their questions.
Why do you believe they read all the previous questions? (Especially on a slooowwww
BL day, like this, er, month.)

But for some forum junkies, people just read the announcement and ask their question(s).

Well the high number of views against each post and the number of subsequent
comments would suggest they are being read and whilst some people are repeating
certain stuff from the FAQ including myself to a certain degree I think its just
because people are looking for a litttle more elaboration on what's previously
been anounced.

Yes a blank option would be great. While AfterPay or Zippay won’t integrate with
Market place platforms, a blank option will give us the availability to use an
alternative payment solution

Please don't. I've dealt with 2FA supporting medical and financial software
for years. It's a pain to set up, and the training curve with too many users
is a vertical wall. I've yet to see a 2FA provider who doesn't have outages
every few weeks, and your phone is NOT secure. For what is a retail operation,
over complicated processes and ticked off customers lead to less of a retail
operation. Add in the expense of doing this internationally, and you will see
a notable jump in what TLG has to skim off the top for fees. Not something that
any of us want.

Use paypal, tie it to your credit card. That will give you security for your
money. If you're worried about some getting in and messing with your inventory....
Don't invent things to be scared of.

I support the idea of proper 2FA. Messages to a phone or mobile device (via SMS
or otherwise) is not proper 2FA. Supporting the U2F standard would be perfect
IMO, its designed to be a 2FA solution that avoids all the problems of using
phones as a 2FA solution. And its open and well documented (and AFAIK designed
to be easy for sites to implement)
It can (if implement correctly) even help stop phishing attacks (where someone
creates a fake web page designed to make you think its the real page and then
uses that fake page to steal login information or otherwise do nefarious things)

On your My Inventory page in the extra options Search My Inventory you can enter

for a set. I want to know what those parts are.

Check the option Show Items in My Inventory to see if you've got the items

Thank you. I'm lost. I do not see an option that works.

As I go through updating my postage for the USPS rate increase in effect on Monday,
I'm reminded that we still don't have the ability to use zone pricing
based on zip codes for shipping. We all use the same zone groupings, so we would
just need a chart set up like we do for international shipping, but with the
9 zone fields. I end up overcharging and giving refunds if the amount is excessive.
Thanks,
Romy

it’s only a 1k$ investment to intercept SMS remotely because the SMS protocole

And a malware that can intercept the SMS on the phone costs even less but you

So, again, yes, 2FA adds hurdles but the SMS hurdles are lower than you think
they are.

(I should know better than to argue with you - you always spin it around so you

What did I spin?

In the local attack case, adding something to the same device that already has/knows
everything doesn’t add security, just a warm and dangerous feeling of security.
In the remote attack case, the SMS protocole is not secure and intercepting an
SMS locally or remotely is possible.

Once again, I never claimed 2FA isn’t worthy of interest, I said “please, no
SMS-2FA” and “beware having everything on the same device.”

I would love to see you, being in France, with any "1k$ investment" intercepting
a cell TXT message sent from BrickLink to my Canadian cell phone.

I’m not a criminal but I know what they are capable of.
Search for SS7, SMS and 2FA and you’ll know too.
Or keep believing in rainbow-producing unicorns.

I’ve brought it up in the past, that a neutral should be just that, neutral,
and not effect your feedback percentage number displayed, up or down.

Beyond the obvious reasons, is the fact that there are many newish buyers that
mistakenly see BL’s neutral, as neutral. Silly people Meanwhile, it continues

Oh, it’s okay, they don’t have the HAVE!
But of course they do! Because your HAVE is only a phone number, which is actually
a KNOW.

No, you don't understand. In the case OP described, the HAVE is implemented
by a TXT message to a registered cell phone number.

- The site registers a login with username/password (the KNOW);
- It sends a TXT message to a registered cell number (the HAVE);
- User needs to type that TXT message in a separate box on the login page.

You (as a hacker) won't be able to see that TXT message because you don't
HAVE that cell phone, so you can't type that message in, and hence you can't
complete the authentication process.

Please let me know how "SylvainLS" in France can type in the secret code that
was sent to my cell phone in Canada.

The HAVE is not the phone, it’s the phone number, and that’s a KNOW. SMS can

As I said, it’s more difficult than just what script kiddies do nowadays, but

2FA is also referred to "something you know, and something you have". 2FA is
not meant to make sure it is you that is using your phone. Rather, it is meant
to do a second check after "someone" logged in (and used the "something you know")
by making sure that person also clears the "something you have" hurdle.

Saying 2FA implementations are generally flawed because they don't check
you are using the same device makes no sense. It is not meant to do that check.

It is meant to prevent "SylvainLS" in France to log into account "qwertyboy".
Good luck doing that if 2FA sends my Canadian phone a txt.

Let me be clearer. There are two types of attack: remote and local.

Local: someone steals or hacks your device, your HAVE.
Oh, it’s okay, they don’t have the KNOW!
But of course they do! Because everything is stored on your phone, including
the KNOW.

Remote: someone copies your credentials (login+password), your KNOW.
Oh, it’s okay, they don’t have the HAVE!
But of course they do! Because your HAVE is only a phone number, which is actually
a KNOW.

No, you don't understand. In the case OP described, the HAVE is implemented
by a TXT message to a registered cell phone number.

- The site registers a login with username/password (the KNOW);
- It sends a TXT message to a registered cell number (the HAVE);
- User needs to type that TXT message in a separate box on the login page.

You (as a hacker) won't be able to see that TXT message because you don't
HAVE that cell phone, so you can't type that message in, and hence you can't
complete the authentication process.

Please let me know how "SylvainLS" in France can type in the secret code that
was sent to my cell phone in Canada.

Niek.

maintaining 100% anymore But yeah feedback I believe has become more and
more dated across platforms. I only ever bother to look at feedback if it's
a significant amount I'm spending.

Fantastic input!

Thanks

Granted, a KNOW a bit more difficult to use than login+password, but still very
usable.

I’m not saying 2FA is bad. I’m saying 2FA isn’t a panacea, one-device 2FAs less
of one, and SMS-2FA even less of one.
I’m not advocating not to add 2FA, I’m just saying “careful with SMS-2FA.”

Anyway, all this is moot because BrickLink, and BrickLink and phones….

Obviously the idea behind 2FA is that you're NOT using the same device.

Yeah, that’s the idea but unfortunately, that’s not the common practice.

Apparently it is not YOUR practice. Don't generalize what you don't know.

Apparently nothing, because it’s not my practice.

I’m talking about what I see people do while you’re assuming your case is the
general one.

   I
personally never use the same device. Also, besides SMS there are authentication
apps which are secured by a pincode. In general, 2FA is regarded as the standard
safe login method today whereas 1FA is considered not safe enough anymore. Hence
the suggestion.

I understand the suggestion. I’m just pointing one pitfall.

“Regarded” is the problem here: people feel confident when in reality the implementation
is generally flawed.
How many websites check you’re not using the same device?
None, because it can’t be done.

2FA is not meant to be 100% safe,

Nothing is 100% safe, that’s not my point.
My point is things being presented as safer than they are.

just SAFER than 1FA. You do not have to use
it if you don't want to. But, if the passwords were stolen, they can login
with 1FA but not with 2FA.

Except that, if they have your phone number, — and they will get it when they
get your passwords —, they can intercept your SMS.
Granted, it demands a little bit more investment than what script kiddies are
used to _now_, but SMS-2FA is less safe than other 2FAs.

And what one-device 2FAs do is actually replace a KNOW, your login+password,
with a HAVE, your device, because the device already KNOWS everything.

Even if you have just one device only, as you have Sylvain

Assume, assume….

agulus’s input in this thread has reignited a persistent and nagging thought
of mine: https://www.bricklink.com/message.asp?ID=1176265

It’s a valid point made by member agulus, that has unfortunately been ongoing
as an issue, in the face of contrary input towards the feedback policy.

I’ve brought it up in the past, that a neutral should be just that, neutral,
and not effect your feedback percentage number displayed, up or down.

Beyond the obvious reasons, is the fact that there are many newish buyers that
mistakenly see BL’s neutral, as neutral. Silly people Meanwhile, it continues
to result in an amount of havoc in that arena of BrickLink.

I look forward to reading your honest thoughts

Same feeling exactly. As much as I love the 100% feedback score our store has,
I will admit that we have made mistakes that should have received neutral feedback
at some point. On the other hand, If you have 1000 positives and 10 neutrals.
Should you still have 100% feedback score? I'm not sure myself how to approach
the feedback system. To compound on that thought, When ordering I never bother
to check a sellers feedback rating so... Does it matter? Does everyone take the
time to check? I don't know.

For me as a seller the best meaning for neutral would be for example
that in worst scenario there were problems with order but
it was easy to work on the issue with seller but the buyer
is not 100% satisfied because he/she got only a refund not the part
he/she needed. I wouldn't mind to get a neutral in those
situations if this feedback wouldn't change the percentage.

Sometimes I buy parts on BL and I always look at feedback.
It gives you a lot of information about the seller.
