Thanks!!

The inventory does show that the set was redesigned during production. Please
upload a scan of the correction sheet to the instruction entry for the set and
we'll add it as an alternate image.

Could you also add a note to say that there are two versions of the instruction
booklet too, please? The booklet was updated to incorporate the changes from
the supplemental sheet.

With respect to you personally Marek, for myself and let’s say a group
of Lego Star Wars Collectors that collaborate, we’ve stopped attempts to correct
or add to the BL catalog some years back, when our continued efforts were rejected
or dismissed out of hand, by those placed into those positions at the time, that
could do just that without consideration.
There’s more than a few corrections needed to the Stars Wars portion of the BL
catalog. It’s too bad, such poor judgement in personnel had been used in the
past. Now, some in the know (through painstaking research) that had once cared,
don’t.
That’s all that I would like to say, but should not! While simultaneously
disavowing that which I would like to say, and shouldn't - How’s that
for equivocating
On a serious note, good job, Marek! Now to the next, there’s plenty You are
invaluable to the current catalog team, IMHO of course.
|
If you know that the current catalog admins are open to investigating and adding
these minifigs and you have knowledge of other minifigs that need to be corrected,
would you be willing to re-share that information with the current admins so
that the catalog can be more accurate?
|
Sure, Josh, I could and would for the current admin. In my book they are the
best we've seen here. Truly gifted and dedicated people, with strong guidance
from Russell.
But let me ask you, why is it needed? Given that TLG are in possession of the
site and it's catalog's information. They can spin whatever yarn they'd
like. In other words, get it straight from the horse's mouth. It's a
gift for you purest, if played right.

The group of color names 'flesh' were purely constructs that BL came
up with. THe 'nougat' family of names has been available in the LEGO
community, since at least 2011, when TLG gave to Peeron a reasonably accurate
list (as of that point in time). Now, having said that, before anyone knew the
names should have been 'nougat', BL began to coin color names, and this
likely began about 2003, when certain NBA minifigures came out with what appeared
to be flesh like shade of ABS. Having not seen much of this before, BL created
their own name(s). Soon thereafter, some of the HP minifigs transitioned from
basic yellow to flesh like shades.
What is happening here, is to steer the BL color inventory to align with other
sites, and (in the case of Earth Orange) to untangle errors that were being perpetuated
by a lack of clear information at BL.
IMHO, it's for the greater good, and people need to recognize that.

Interesting choices to start with, Marek!
Nonetheless, as to your first example: the full triangle is the anomaly. It was
initially intended as full triangle but as production produced a flawed triangle,
it was quickly corrected (wrongly in some minds) to the commonly seen trapezoid
shape. So, what’s the norm? I couldn’t say, it’s a matter of perspective. However,
the quantity of fully 'faulty' triangle produced, is far less than that
of the corrected trapezoid version.

(OK I understand we can see them only from the front as they never retreat when
they attack so you can't see their back )
Interesting in our catalog torso is showed without long line.
According to the information which I found here
http://minifigs.nl/swminifigs/mfnl-shadow-ms.html
one with long line could be from magnet set from 2009.
* | | 852715 (Inv) Magnet Set, Minifigures SW (3) - Darth Vader, Snowtrooper, Shadow Trooper - with 2 x 4 Brick Bases blister pack Gear: Magnet: Star Wars |
so from sets which were issued earlier 2007 and 2008 could be one with short
line
My with short line is from set
I have also two in my collection with long line but bought them years ago loose
without sets.
I submitted both as new as in this case sw0166 should be marked for deletion
as we don't know which one is currently sell under this entry.

| Sorry if my PC post, among others was toxic to anyone. [cough cough StormChaser]
It's actually a pretty good thing now that the Earth Orange color has been
split.
For the spreadsheet I use to upload parts, it was as simple as a single CTRL+F,
and replace for four affected colors.
Not sure why I let myself be so bothered by it.
Funny thing is that the number codes are still the same, so I could have left
everything as flesh and parts would have uploaded as nougats so it literally
didn't affect me at all.
I guess I was too caught up in wanting to retain familiar nomenclature.
However, I'm guessing, after a few months, the nougats will all be familiar
as well.

Good point! But NOT a mixture, John.
White without a specific wavelength is the sum of all conceivable colors.

| It's already listed at the bottom under alternate items.
Redesigned during production.
There are at least 2 different versions of instructions for this set. The differences
for the second version are indicated in this inventory in the Alternate Items
section with Match ID 99.
Quick overview of redesign: The yellow 1 x 1 cone at the end of the fire hose
is inverted so the large end is pointing out. A yellow 1 x 1 round plate with
hole is added to the large end of the cone to hold the water plume.

Good point! But NOT a mixture, John.
White without a specific wavelength is the sum of all conceivable colors.
Or any wavelength, and therefore all or any color, theoretically.

Is that why I get sunburned so easily?

Lobster Red? Sounds like a term the color terminology reformers here on BL might

The problem is with cognition:
Is this a Container or a Container Lid?
Container 1 x 2 x 3 Lid
...is it a 1 x 2 x 3 container or is it a 1 x 2 x 3 lid?
The tile example also would argue for a qualifier
Tile Ungrooved
Tile Grooved
Is Grooved the right qualifier? The 2412 Tile is grooved. The title doesn't
reflect that, but I'd suspect that "groove" would be an likely search term
for the uninitiated. So...back up and work on the glossary first?
Attempting this standardization...developing a schema to follow...should probably
take days if not weeks to sort out. If you download the catalog and look just
at the Container section...try to dissect that with a spreadsheet...put like
attributes into columns...you run into the weeds pretty quickly. And that's
an easy category.
And I'll once again emphasize that without substantive changes to the underlying
database structure, this is just rearranging the deck chairs.
If this work being done now is in anticipation of actually getting a better underlying
database sometime down the road, then start planning now and have the StormBluser
Schema anticipate the "to come" schema.

Today I am very pleased to announce we have a new Catalog Associate! As you may
see from the Hall of Fame, StormChaser has previously held two catalog-type admin
positions - Inventories Admin and the legacy Catalog Admin - and has recently
returned to the site.
We're delighted he has decided to come back, and I know many of you missed
him as well. He has many ambitious plans for the catalog, and now that we have
more staff on board, it's looking as though we can start making some serious
headway.
So please join me in welcoming him. You can see his familiar profile in line
with the others here:

StormChaser is also the first member to officially join our new Community Expert
Program. We hope to see the other catalog admins joining in the next day or two,
and the rest of our admins within the week.

Even better would be to have shorter titles (as long as there is no danger of
"collision" with another item). The current titles are often closer to "description"
than title. Title does not need to describe the item exactly, only enough to
differentiate it from anything else. (In some webshops even title/name collisions
can be ok, but I don't think it would be useful here in BL.)

You have exposed an ongoing problem with using a title-based system: widespread
inconsistencies in the use of search terms. Skin is the catalog standard term
for this type of pattern:
|
Hmm.. not knowing what that "abilisk" means, or even fully understand that
title, but I do recognize there is a difference between "skin" and "flesh". (As
in "scratches on skin" vs. "flesh wound"). The head definitely has torn more
than just skin (as it shows bone). Since it does not refer to color in this case,
I'd think using word "flesh" is the most correct one. In the latter, if the
texture showing from the rip is the surface of skin (and not flesh through the
skin), then "skin" is the correct word for that case.
| Here is the problem restated. What is essentially the same thing (a telephone)
is described in the catalog as:
[P=3069bpb545]
[P=3069bpb698]
You might use one of the search terms (phone, telephone, smartphone) and think
you've found all the items. Wrong. That is why title standardization is
incredibly important for a title-based system like BrickLink has now.
I'm working on improving search terms used in titles as we speak.

Black is the absorption of light and color spectrum without the reflection of

I just added 2 photos of a new part that i added to the catalogue, one a rendered

photo i added and the other has disappeared.

Wait, so is Earth Orange or Dark Nougat now?
Also, early Ron's hair?
|
The short answer is that BL's color list has always been slightly bonkers,
and went it's own way (both in names and trying to decide what was a unique
color and what was not).
It appears that Earth Orange has been home to two official TLG colors (12 {Light
Orange Brown} and 128 {Dark Nougat}). This an attempt to pull those two apart,
and to (somewhat) correct the naming (although I do not expect our beloved Earth
Orange to go away anytime soon).
The other changes are (it would appear) to remove 'flesh', since true
epidermal flesh comes in a huge variety of shades, that TLG's ABS does not
represent (and to change over to the TLG naming at the same time).
On my color list (which I have not updated since 2015), I see four 'nougat'
variants:
Nougat (TLG 18)
Dark Nougat (TLG 128)
Light Nougat (TLG 283)
Medium Nougat (TLG 312)
