| Is it possible to create 2 addresses that I can always choose from when completing
an order? I have one address in Slovakia for most orders and one in Czech Republic
for CZ orders. Now the only way around is to simply edit my address and after
order placed change it back. because some stores have automated payment for shipping
and if I don´t change the country i don´t get the right options. I know people
in US will probably not understand why I need something but specifically for
people in SK/CZ many people have address in both countries to optimize shipping
cost etc. It´s from the past but that country difference makes me save 7 EUR
on shipping when I instead of 9€ pay just 2€.

| Hello Admin,
I hope I am in the right place.
Is there any reason why Collectible Minifigure's instruction books are inventoried
as each specific minifigure when all instruction books are the same?
This causes confusion for buyers (and annoyance for sellers) who think they are
getting the specific minifigure's instruction booklet when it will just be
a generic book.
So when parting out a CMF, instead of:
(Instructions) for Set col19 Video Game Champ, Series 19
It should read:
(Instructions) for Series 19 Collectible Minifigure
Just my 2 cents... thanks!!

I think 80% of the parts are the same between the 2 versions. I'd like to

| Hi is it possible to sort stores not just by price or quantity but by country
or proximity to the home country you select ?
Because I felt on getting stores from all over the place even outside Holland
and then I figured out that the stores in Holland have the stuff I want but it
was not the cheapest way to get the parts .... So I now set it to highest quantity
but ideal I would only easy buy to select : 1 holand : 2 most items in 1 store
: 3 as least stores possible pref just 1 but not 6 like it does now ....
I want only Holland because I will have the bricks sooner as it only takes 1
or 2 days and its cheaper.
Hope you can do this as for now easy buy is far from that sorry.

I've done this before but I am now making a concerted effort to import this
into my own database primarily for tax purposes. I just realized that the process
imports every field except for Tax. Surely this was an oversight since the tax
field was added later. However it is frustrating because it means I still have
to manually search out every Minnesota order manually to calculate my total 2019
sales tax collected.
Surely this will be an easy fix and it can be corrected promptly!

| Via check-box option, It would be very handy to be able to restrict part searches
to just those sellers included in your favourite list, and separately to this,
those sellers you have open carts with.
This would be useful when adding to existing open orders (to save on shipping
or small batch orders) - If I know I'm already going to be placing orders
with Sellers A, B, C, & F, and I realise I need some more of a particular part,
being able to see which of those sellers have that part and what they're
chargning for it, is useful since I don't need to go back out to the wider
market (and shipping cost), AND I don't need to go to each open seller's
Store to search on them individually. One search does the trick.

| One of the things that BrickLink needs, is better brand identification in the
larger community of potential buyers. It occurs to me that one way to work towards
this goal is to have BL logo stickers (I.e. The same icon contains the smiling
yellow face 2x2 brick logo). This type of sticker has been used by Apple, in
that one is included with every Apple product. Over the past ~20 years it has
been a white Apple with a bite missing, white the original incarnation was a
6-color Apple.
Our new benevolent overlords have extensive experience in producing stickers,
and presumably they have access to the ability to produce large quantities, that
we (the sellers) could include one with each order. Eventually, you would start
seeing them stuck on laptops and the rear windows of vehicles. Free advertising
for BL !
Thank you for your support.

|
| With the takeover by TLG, it may be time that some fundamental changes to the
site get implemented. Hence the posting of this idea - that has been bothering
me for years.
— requires programming and website extension —
Currently in the Bricklink catalog are parts that signify ‘undetermined variant’,
commonly marked for deletion or already deleted, and corresponding parts that
represent the specific variants of these. The current system requires sellers
to determine the specific variant type – even if they would prefer not to distinguish.
The same system requires buyers to exactly specify which variant they are interested
in buying – even if they don’t actually care which is commonly true. My suggestion
would be to distinguish the two concepts as are the processes: the process of
specifying what is for sale (which may be undetermined) and the process of specifying
what you want to buy (which may be ‘don’t care’). Both processes are already
separate on Bricklink (store inventory and wanted lists), but the concept of
‘undetermined’ is not.
For the catalog policy
• Keep all undetermined variants in the catalog and even add undetermined
variants for those parts that are similar. This information may be extracted
from the relation type ‘part is similar to’.
• Drop the deletion marks for all the undetermined entries and solely use
this marking for wrong or outdated entries.
For sellers
For sellers to don’t want to distinguish between part variants: list these parts
under the undetermined entry only. The BL system should be modified to show these
entries amidst the specific variants for any non specific search as through wanted
lists.
For buyers
For buyers it should be possible to specify an undetermined variety or in
effect a search pattern instead of a single part number. If a buyer does not
care whether a p=4085 is of type a, b, c or d, the buyer should be able to add
p=4085* to his wanted list and the search engine should have no trouble in matching
4085a, 4085b or 4085d with this. Similarly to the 0 color (labeled N/A or Not
Appicable while in this context it actually means Irrelevant).
Buyers should be assisted by the website to specify a specific variant if applicable,
but default to the don’t care form.
For the Bricklink website
• Add a feature to the ‘Add to Wanted List’ and ‘Edit Wanted List’ forms
to allow adding of (a) this specific variant only or (b) include variants. Then
populate the wanted list with the appropriate search pattern instead of the single
part number. This would take the form of either a complete enumeration of all
varieties like ‘4085|4085a|4085b|4085c|4085d’ (plate 1x1 with clip) or the more
general entry of ‘4085*’ or ‘4085@’; I would think the enumeration is more robust,
as it would also allow ‘3794|3794a|3794b|15573’ (jumper 1x2) and would also
allow manual exclusion of one or more variants.
• Adjust the ‘Items for sale’ pages or page fragments that show all matching
parts to include all variants when searching for the don’t care variety.
For the Bricklink database
• Widen the field WantedListItems.ItemNumber to allow for longer patterns.
100 chars would be enough for most enumerations of varieties I can think of.
For the Bricklink search engine
• For matching wanted lists with store items: presume that wanted list entries
may contain a search pattern instead of a single entry. Change the SQL from ‘=’
to ‘LIKE’ wherever necessary or drop the quotes around the field. (But make sure
no malicious code may be entered through this field).
Extra
• A similar feature might be implemented to search for approximate colors
such as ‘any gray’ or ‘any green’, similar to how Studio groups the colors.
Any thoughts of whether this would be helpful for you as a seller or for you
as a buyer?

| After a user places an order, it gets the default status "Ready".*
This confuses buyers: they think the order was processed and is ready for shipping.
I would like to suggest setting the default order status always to "Pending".
*(Unless they pay at once using BL, it is set to "Paid" automatically. I can't
set it to that status manually. This is confusing since there is a payment status
as well. So that's double info and I would remove that possible value for
the status.)

|
| I realize as a non-admin I may be speaking out of turn and it will make little
difference to most people. I suggest that we add a step where an item is approved
in the catalog, but may still be awaiting release for sale. I get inspired to
make this suggestion every time I work up a set of CMF, but it would surely be
similar for other people who do catalog work on unreleased items. Sets are usually
"on hold" pending for at least a month before the official release. They could
be weighed and often they could be inventoried when they actually hit the catalog
for sale, but in the current system nothing can be done. Weight of a set can
be entered, but not weight of packing or instructions. I have over 100 items
pending in the catalog and I really wish I could get it organized, but I can't.
Would Lego object to us having information in the catalog for upcoming items?
I think they just want the sale dates respected.

After i wrote the message, i changed to 'request an invoice' mode and

So i'm suggesting that when we change modes of shipping/invoice/etc. - of

While I favor buying other people's unwanted pieces, I always check the price

This is the reason why I would love to see in bricklink if pieces are available

|
| I've never quite understood why you are not allowed to set the minimum order
of a shipping method lower than the minimum order of your store. It's annoying
because if you have 10 shipping methods, then anytime you want to change your
minimum order, you need to also change it 10x in your shipping methods, for no
real reason, because the "master setting", the store minimum order value, should
determine it already.
However, it seems it's also causing another problem: Buyers can use the bypass
password to get around the minimum order, but it does not help them go
around the minimum order of the shipping methods. The result is that anytime
a buyer used the bypass password, they are able to order but unable to select
any shipping methods. So there will need to be a manual invoice.
I'd propose removing the restriction for shipping methods to have a minimum
order value that is higher than or equal to the store minimum order value - in
fact, I'd propose for shipping methods not to need a minimum value at all.
That should solve everything I described without any side effects.

There needs to be a proper 24/7 help desk and a proper SLA with members.
When something goes wrong with the site there is just no way of alerting anyone
out of USA working hours and even after that often nobody responds. This is no
way to run a global e-commerce site of this scale.
Currently I cannot access the BL catalog using any browser on PC or tablet...
and this has being the case for hours...surely this requires a response at least

| It would be very nice to allow store management to configure when a Stripe payment
is actually captured instead of capturing payment at checkout. In some countries
it's not allowed to capture payment before the order is actually shipped.
For instance it could be configured to automatically capture the payment when
the order status is set to "Shipped". This is how Stripe integration is handled
on BrickOwl so there's definitely an API for this. If an automatic handling
of this cannot be implemented for whatever reason I'd be ok with settling

|
| Dear Bricklink,
There are certain dishonest shops that really ruin the BL experience for shoppers.
It's hard to prove, but some sellers apparently sell pieces they don't
have in their stock and only order them from elsewhere when you place an order
with them. Apologies if that sounds like unfounded accusation, but my LUG is
aware of a number of shops whose stock is always suspiciously similar to current
LEGO PaB stock, who delay shipping when PaB runs out of stock, and who generally
take around 3 weeks to ship anything, no matter how common and widely available.
Because I see no reliable way to denounce such sellers, I suggest a different,
easily implemented solution. Just like sellers who offer instant checkout are
marked with a special badge, why not create another badge that marks sellers
who ship e.g. 3 days after payment on average? We as buyers have no access to
sellers' shipping times, we can only look up their feedback and see if people
are complaining about slow service. But your system has dates of all payments
and shipments. Simply calculate days between payment and shipping for all seller's
orders and you can get a nice average. And I'm sure this average is going
to show that certain shops typically ship after 2-3 weeks while others ship after
2-3 days. Hell, I had a seller ship an order 30 minutes after payment once. Quality
service deserves recognition, and we as buyers deserve the right to be informed
whether a particular seller provides such service or not. Transparency is the
name of the game. Right now there in no reliable way to determine that, and picking
a wrong seller can mean that your MOC will get hold up for weeks.
I sincerely hope that you will consider this simple, easy to implement request
that would drastically improve Bricklink's overall transparency for buyers.

| Hello,
Over the las couple of months i have designed some cars in Studio.
Some bricks in the middle may have a different color than the color I am currently
building. So if the color doesn't matter you select 'not applicable'
for that specific brick.
It always takes quite some time to figure out in the wanted list which bricks
should be on not applicable. I think it is much easier to include the 'color'
not applicable in the list.
As an extra function it is then useful to be able to choose the color of the
'not applicable' bricks. For example, if you are building a model in
red, you can set the 'not applicable' bricks to yellow. Because of the
contrast between these two colors you keep the overview on the model.

| Hey,
I'm a database administrator (Business intelligence specifically), and I'd
like to help eliminate the daily and monthly downtimes. The way I see it, if
Facebook can have an uptime of 99.9999% while rolling out new features, so can
BL.
Hit me up, I'd love to know what the downtimes are for, and help see if we
can design a better solution for those needs.

| It seems the forum isn't getting the same kind of community involvement as
it once did. It is fairly common to see less than 100 messages per day and I
had to go back to July to find a day that had over 200. The way the forum works
right now it can be very frustrating and time consuming finding posts of interest
as even new posts get buried quickly under 2 or 3 more active posts and that
makes it difficult to participate in the forum if you do not have the time to
browse or search through it. In terms of utility the bricklink forum is not as
easy to use and enjoy as say brickset forum. There are a lot of good parts of
the BL forum but I feel it is largely being ruined.
My suggestion is that when a post is responded to the post itself moves to the
top but it doesn't show up as a new message, so if a post is made and has
10 replies it will still just look like one post on the forum. I would also like
to recommend that certain categories get put into a different area apart from
the forum so maybe for example buying and selling, inventory change requests,
and sales posts could be seperated from the rest so they don't bury the rest
of the posts out there and stagnate the forum.
The goal would be to allow more people and ideas to participate in the community.

| Just like Discogs where you can put into an inventory what you have (they name
it collection), it would be interesting to have such a feature.
It's basically a display without having to sell (i.e. right now you have
to be a seller to have an inventory).
I'm using currently wish list of the set I got at the moment and transfered
them into another wish list once I was done rebuilding it... I mean it works
but it's not exactly what wish lists are for!

| we are working on a new generation of creativity
the first image are the kanohi custom i made for Bionicle kanoko.
we love to have new florescent trans-colors.
we have red-orange, neon-lime, florescent-medium-blue. the rarest of all are
neon-bright-yellow and hot-dark-pink that needs work because its not like the
one I remember. because its too dark, and the real deal really pink. described
in the 2nd image.
plus, we need new florescent colors
like... different colors that glow under UVlight. as described in the 3nd image
I got from google.
so the new colors we want/need to try are
neon-turquoise = (neon-green & medium-blue)
florescent-lavender = (hot-pink & medium-blue)
bright-coral = (hot-pink & red-orange)
I hope you like my ideas.

| It would be nice not only to have a "new" and "used" condition but also a "damaged"

for intact parts is a bit time consuming.
I didn't find out if someone else already asked for this feature.

|
| I was wondering if there'd be a possibility of adding box contents to LEGO
sets on here. Something like listing the number of each bag, unmarked bags/unbagged
parts, etc.
I deal with a lot of secondhand sets and come across sets with open boxes (or
like today no boxes), but sealed bags of parts. Today I scored 14/17 numbered
backs for set 10237 Tower of Orthanc. I almost missed out on getting the second
bag #3 because it didn't obviously go with the other bags. Thankfully I
was able to find an old unboxing video on YouTube and figured out I'm missing
3 numbered bags (#1, #4, and one of the two #5s), plus the unnumbered eagle bag.
But usually when I'm in this situation, I haven't been so lucky. It's
especially tricky with sets that have unnumbered bags. I usually end up opening
them to do the inventory if I'm uncertain, but it would be nice to keep them
sealed and be able to know what was missing.
I'd be willing to provide the list for any new sets I open, if it might help
someone else out down the line. It seems like a fairly easy thing and I'm
surprised that, at least as far as I'm aware, there isn't somewhere to
find this information easily (at least for modern sets). Bricklink seems like
a natural place for this information to exist.
I'm not sure how many folks would be interested in that information, but
in the last year I've probably had questions on the contents for close to
10 different sets.
Anyway, I'm not even sure if this is the appropriate place to mention it,
but I thought I'd give it a shot.

|
| Hello! I'm net1986 from South Korea!
I would like to suggest something today.
First of all I apologize for my poor English grammar, please understand.
This is what I would suggest this time.
"I wish there was function to view information of just part product from the
set, Not whole set. And function to order those just part product."
For example,
1. I want to get only police swat van from set 60008 Museum Break-in.(don't
need any part like figs or Museum)
2. But there is only brick information for whole set(Unnecessary a lot of information
confuses me)
3. It takes a lot of hard work to analyze for only just the swat van.
4. And It's very hard to order each part brick for the van
What I mean is that I wish there was a function to view a only part product(just
swat van of set 60008)and I wish I would order those part in way "easy buy".
I know that the "east buy" function already exists.
It's very helpful for restorers.
But now, It adjust only set product or MOC product as I know.
So, I wish the "easy buy" function is more enhanced(add part product from set)
I hope you guys understand my words.
reply me, thanks.
Best regard,

| The first is folks sending messages directly to my PayPal and BrickLink notifications
email address. Which I don’t check on a regular basis.
Wouldn’t it be better all round if the user email address were hidden? therefore
emails would have to go thru the message system.
Leads to the second. BrickLink notifications are often delayed by two or three
days, then they all come thru together. Which is why I don’t check that mail
box often. Fairly frequently I receive the order placed notification AFTER I
have shipped the order!
I check messages on site, every morning when I first log on.
Also would benefit BrickLink as it would be far more difficult to trade off site,
if anyone were so inclined.
Please give this some consideration, it works well on the other place.
Thanks, Graham

| Quote system/Cart
Can we get the quote system/cart to be the same as the store cart?
As we all know with the Store cart when an item gets sold or the quantity differs
than you put in your cart, you can adjust the items in your store cart, or delete,
and your store cart is still active, and can remain active until you go through
with the order or empty it completely.
Can we get the quote system/cart to be like the store as well?
Rather than just losing everything in the quote cart when its gets cancelled
by whatever reason, and having to start all over again?

Now you have to travel way over to the right to see it, unless you have your

| I am after a few pieces to complete a few kits and am going from one checkout
to another, then to another and then cancelling the orders (before payment) because
the vendors haven't got the "Request a Quote" provision set up.
Clearly it would save a lot of stuffing around if you know the full cost incl
P&H before hand.
Even better - there should be a little icon or something next to the vendors
name to indicate whether they send quotes or not so you don't have to go
through the checkouts to find out right at the end.
This is what I'm experiencing in Australia

I am forced to go into BL message center and copy/paste my text. Even worse when
I need to reply with an attachment (like a photo of a brick): not an option.
This all ends up in two // streams of communication: some messages are sent using
BL, others over direct email.
I'm forced to use a communication medium (BL) that is not adequate. Until
it's adequate, I would suggest to remove the "Messaging" feature all together.
Until BL can offer a mature messaging feature that makes direct email obsolete,
I would suggest to remove the Message feature (and point the users to direct
email contact). Now it's just a very confusing and annoying mix of communication
channels.

Other fields auto-fill (6 months average-sales of the option to use old remarks,

When I am part-setting I like to keep count of the average part-cost. When part-setting
bigger sets I will have to fill these out (copy/paste) 300-400 times, depending
on the lot-count. Absolutely killing my motivation. If I can choose one number
on the first part-out screen, it can be filled-out in the overview. Some lots
I change (baseplates/minifigs/stickersheet are not 6-7 eurocents "cost", but

Even though we don't have furry companions (son's allergies) we really

For example, if I open a specific wanted list and sort it by item number, then

However, no matter how many times I open the master wanted list, i.e. my list

Exemple
I have this one :
2440pb002 / https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?id=2911#T=C
But it sadly never appears when we search for 2440 (what's only written on
the part)
And that's only thanks a long search on some other website that i finally
could find it on brickink.
So, is it possible to add all those sub-serial numbers to the normal search
For an exemple it could be a new COLOR category : decorated.
Or as for my exemple, it is a black part with decoration, so to put it in the
BLACK color.
Thanks a lot in advance
WOULD HELP A LOT in searches.
best wishes and long live your fabulous website

I wanted more of. But I couldn't find an easy way to see this without going
through every item again (which takes a while then there are hundreds of items
in my wantedlists/cart).
The RECENTLY ADDED option just shows when a piece was first added, not updated.
For instance the store I was in, said the most recent item was added in 2012.
This shows a false sense of inactivity which is obviouly wrong when stuff is
changing in my cart and this store has fulfilled thousands of orders. This additional
option would help people like me in simular situations, those who have recently
bought from the store and want to buy again, or who are adding to an order over
the next week or so (I see alot of store allowing this).

| Hi
I know a lot of work goes on behind the scenes with volunteer administrators
who do a damn good job with the catalogue and inventories.
Is it about time Bricklink appointed an (or more) administrator (s) to oversee
the selling side of Bricklink.
Bricklink would not exists without its revenue from sellers putting in time and
effort to sell and pay fees to Bricklink.
Surely it is only fair to sellers and buyers that items for sale conform to the
rules. If items are being mis-represented they should be removed or sellers given
the opportunity to amend their listing.
It would be nice if Bricklink appointed people to oversee the selling side of
the business. Sellers may then start conforming with their listings

| In searching through the categories for Lego sets, I could not find one that
included Lego games. Over the years Lego has produced many games: chess sets,
mazes, Heroica, etc. Is this omission an oversight or is it because there is
little market for used game sets? In either case, I felt disappointed in the
absence of such a category.

Is it possible to create a list after the checkout, in which the wish lists can

Maybe with a new function?
Would be great!

| Hi.
Would it be possible to add a function that would allow us (buyers) to check
our orders part by part? (using a hook or something like that)?
For more than 100 parts it's always very cumbersome, with printing lists
or something like that.
It would be great!

| It would be so much easier if BrickLink could connect to Royal Mail and download
orders like you can on eBay. I’d be happy to pay a little more on fees to accommodate
it.
Also if the shipping could be a little easier, I used to prefer the old way of
selecting a country, but I know the change was for auto invoicing etc.
Is there any guide that can help me or suggestions on making things easier?

| I would love to be able to take all of the items in my own inventory and include
them as the cheapest (e.g. zero cost) option for any wanted list search. Right
now my store doesn't seem to show up at all, and it won't let me buy
from myself.
I can search for inventory items that are in a wanted list, but I can't automatically
mark them as 'Have' in the wanted list. So I have to print the list
and then go through by hand and mark the quantities in the Wanted list. Seems
like if I could just do it all in the Wanted List Buy screen, it would be easy!

| I don't want to see certain items on my lists but I want them to still be
on my lists.
When I am sorting through my pieces and finding pieces that I already have before
needing to buy more, I want to hide the pieces I either confirm that I do not
have or hide the pieces I have already.
I know I can sort by quantity but that still shows pieces that I have looked
for and do not have.
What is left visible on the lists will be pieces that I have not yet looked for.
I have gotten around this in the past by creating multiple wanted lists per project
and moving pieces to lists that say need to buy... but that has made my wanted
lists messy and I would prefer clean wanted lists.

| Add the ability to search all carts by the name of an item. Sometimes I take

A few items contain such information in their "notes" but its inconsistent (ideally

| This is a fairly bad marketing idea for shops that probably don't work out
in the shops favour. I know a majority of my browsing has ended up in me taking
my business and money to another shop. Where I am either buying from someone
without a min buy, or selecting other items I actually want to hit that minimum
purchase amount. So my suggestion is to add a donation field/possibility to finish
passing the required purchase line.
I have only made 3 purchases since I joined but these 3 people are profiting
by shop deterrence over the min buy. One of which was a difference of 3 cents
to the min buy vs. paying 1 cent more for the same thing because it didn't
have one.

| Hello,
After some time as a buyer, I just opened my store on BrickLink.
At first I was only shipping domestic so I configured domestic shipping method
and checked only the domestic checkbox for PayPal payments.
I am now opening to international sales, so I configured international shipping
methods, but I had forgotten about the international checkbox for PayPal and
did not check it.
I got messages from potential buyers saying they could not checkout because I
had not configured a payment method.
I do not understand how enabling international shipping without international
payment can make sense, so I would assume that anyone who did this made a mistake.
My suggestion is to have BrickLink check for this inconsistent configuration
and at least warn sellers about it, or maybe even prevent it from happening.
Thanks

| I recently noticed that the wording of Forum Rule #4 is quite odd. While I do
understand the meaning of the existing version, it is structured awkwardly and
ambiguously (such that, for example, it could indicate that offensive
words are not to be replaced with pornography!).
A revised version of Rule #4 (such as I have drafted) would clarify what, precisely,
is defined as "offensive" (as this is a highly subjective term), as well as making
the sentence-structure more understandable - Particularly to non-native English-speakers.
Existing:
"Posts should not include foul language, lewd, or other offensive content, or
links to such content. This includes replacing offensive words with alternate
letters or characters, pornography, or any kind of racial/prejudicial content."
Revised:
"Posts should not include offensive content, nor any links to such content, including:
Profane, foul, lewd, pornographic, violent, or prejudicial language or images.
Replacing censored words with alternate letters or characters, or editing images
to obscure forbidden content with pixilation or black bars, is also prohibited."

| Firstly let me say that we know suggestions are not being implemented and according
to MP no work is being done on the classic site however this is a small request
which doesn't require huge amounts of development time and would make life
a bit easier.
Currently the method of manually adding inventory is long winded, provides no
audit trail of what has been done and at best is clumsy.
We use Brickstock for most of our updates to our store. It is much easier, quicker
and provides us with a complete audit trail - the only real snag is what happens
when the file gets to Bricklink, The verify screen drops off the Bricklink part
number for some reason so we are left with an audit trail which, when variants
are involved, isn't really all that helpful, although to be fair we have
used this for some time.
Simply placing the bricklink product code on the verify screen would be very
helpful and this is not a major programming issue. At the same time give us a
print button to print that screen Using the print command from the browser doesn't
work well with the page setup falling short of what is needed.
This is a simple matter and could be resolved in minimal time - please implement.

| Hi,
I hope this is the right place to post this.
I think it would be a good thing to be able to set the maximum number of stores
used to fulfill a wanted list search of matching stores in order to have a good
compromise between items costs and shipping costs.
Since shipping costs can't be taken in count during stores automatic selection,
you could add a parameter "max N° of stores" so that we can compair a result
with 10 stores and very low pieces costs and 2 stores with more high pieces costs.
Sometime shipping costs from many stores override high pieces costs from 1 or
2 stores.
hope is clear enough

|
| I want to further the discussion at https://www.bricklink.com/message.asp?ID=1139677
but under an appropriate thread.
In regards to color.
The comments below go to the use of color labeling in the context of being functional
in regards to search. It is not in regards to color accuracy in terms of cataloging.
There is a schism between the two uses because there is only one available field
in the database to handle what are two distinctly different purposes.
At https://www.bricklink.com/message.asp?ID=1139699 you bring up the color guidelines.
I appreciate as one of the admins, you're attempting to follow the guidelines.
The guidelines however are in conflict with what an average person with no experience
with the guidelines would expect. They're even in conflict with what someone
with greater than average knowledge of the color labeling conventions on BL would
expect. I would reconsider those guidelines.
There are, by my count currently 170 different distinct colors that the system
knows. https://www.bricklink.com/catalogColors.asp
Assuming an ideal world where all of the decorations are accurately color-described
in the database per the guidelines, it's unreasonable to expect any average
person to be able to remember 170 different colors and to accurately identify
every instance of them. Colors shift over time due to aging and formulation.
Color perception changes relative to adjacent colors. Perceived color accuracy
is relative to the available reference photos or renders, the skill of the photographer
to capture the color, the ability of any individual piece of hardware or software
to properly interpret and render the color, lighting conditions, and other factors.
Color is a rainbow hell-hole.
Here is a test situation to illustrate my point. Take the torso in question in
the original thread and show it to 20 random people. Ask them what the colors
are. I'll wager you a cookie that if you ask 20 people who are not jenwick,
that exactly zero describe the blue as "medium azure." I'll wager you another
cookie that less than half describe the purple as "magenta."
With that in mind, somebody comes to the site and attempts to find something.
Somebody will use what they think the color is because that is their perception
of the color, not because they've reviewed the color chart in depth and have
spent time comparing many pieces to one another to grok the nuances and accurately
predict the exact hue necessary to achieve a match in search. What they'll
do is enter the color they think it is (blue) and do a search, and the search
results will be unsatisfactory, and they'll declare they can't find it
and post in the forum "what is this" or they'll search repeatedly and repeatedly
get unsatisfactory results, declare the site too complicated, and go away in
frustration. This frustration ends up being an indelible negative association
with BrickLink in that person's mind.
We've witnessed this scenario time and again here on the forum. We've
witnessed the endless debates over yellowed LBG vs LG, the confusion with pearl
gray and flat silver (two labels for one color), the confusion with pearl gold
(one label for two colors), people can't find pieces they're looking
for when they're looking right at them because the thumbnail color isn't
the same as the color they searched for, and more.
Having people "go away in frustration" is not in the best interest of BL as a
marketplace. Presumably the 10,000 plus shops here have invested some effort
in attempting to sell things. With that in mind, I argue that things which facilitate
sales should have precedent over "historical accuracy" when it comes to searching
the catalog. One needs to be able to find something before one can dig deep into
understanding it and its associated nuances...if one even needs or wants to understand
them.
We know a better solution to the issue would be a more robust database. As we've
been told repeatedly that isn't going to happen, you're left with a choice.
Either you populate the description field with user-friendliness or with historical
accuracy in mind (for user-friendliness, decoration colors in the item/description
would be their most generic counterparts: black, gray, silver, white, gold, red,
orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, brown, tan, chrome, copper, and speckle).
I would suggest the item field be populated with user-friendliness in mind and
that the note/comment field be generously populated with the historical accuracy
and other more esoteric information.
It's not an ideal solution, but it would work within the current operational
parameters of the database and site interface.
On contributions.
I went through a discussion with the Stormchaser about this at length. This isn't
going to improve until all the UI is improved. The forms are too convoluted and
not explained well and the explanations are hidden and it's just too much
work for anybody who isn't more than casually dedicated. All the instructions
for filling a form need to be adjacent to the fields on the form. The instructions
are buried elsewhere. If you start filling a form, then have to leave to find
instructions, the form is then blanked when you return, and that's an issue
and causes frustration. The UI can't improve much without programmer time.
The whole issue gained no traction while I was communicating with the Stormchaser.
I don't expect any improvement any time soon. Refer to second picture attached
after you finish reading this post.
In regards to the Stormchaser.
You'll forgive me if I read your statement about following in his footsteps
probably not the way you intended it. It's pretty clear that being a volunteer
admin at BrickLink is basically like being in the "zone" in Stalker https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0079944/
To really appreciate the statement, you'll have to experience the movie,
if you haven't already.
Stormchaser's footsteps promised much change, then he made like Mrs. Hogwallop.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tsAZ0RweVxk So maybe don't follow those footsteps
too closely.
I had a number of communications with the Stormchaser both on- and off-line.
I'll suggest to you the same thing I did with him: read Steve Krug's
"Don't Make Me Think" https://www.amazon.com/Dont-Make-Think-Revisited-Usability/dp/0321965515/
This book has been revised a few times. I'm familiar with the second version,
but would expect the later versions to be effectively the same content probably
with more recent references. It's a quick read, and appropriate for non-technical
types. He said it helped him with how he thought about things he wanted to do.
So. Food for thought. And in closing, because you asked, a portrait of Randy
after reading this post.

I don't mind the 1 week to pay before it is started. But another full 7 days

I would propose 3 additional days and that is it. Let us get our stock back

I can't be the only one that feels this way and 14 days might have worked

Alternatively (or in addition to the above suggestion), consider developing a
