| I read this post the other day and just happen to stumble upon this part. I haven´t
done anything catalog wise in a good year, so I hope I am not too far off in
what you are asking.
[p=2865]
Red - doesnt exist in a set
Dark Gray & DBG - rendered?
In Catalog, StormChaser writes:
| A new catalog project has begun:
https://www.bricklink.com/help.asp?helpID=2473
As you can see, the (Other) project is now complete and LordSkylark's project
is temporarily on hold.
The fifth catalog project is to remove images which are renders and which show
parts which do not exist in the colors shown. There are estimated to be 1,600
of these renders left in the catalog and there is no easy way for me to locate
them.
I would imagine the majority of them are for basic, undecorated parts. Please
post here with micro tags for the parts which need rendered images removed and
specify the colors. I will review the findings and remove the renders where
appropriate. Please note that this project will not be removing any actual
photos of parts.
Thank you all for your assistance.

- How do we know a sealed set was not opened, tampered with and resealed again?
|
We don't, but it is more and more likely these days that these old sets have
been resealed to try and make a profit. Modern sets are easy to fix, because
multiple people are checking them constantly from sealed sets. More data points
for these sets makes it less and less likely that errors will occur. However,
for these old sets, we only have so much data to work with. I do not take any
inventory changes lightly, so I must be convinced beyond reasonable doubt before
I will make a change. I hope you can understand my position.

See above.
| I may own a sealed vintage set but still not sure if it is original. Nowadays
there are more and more fake sealed sets (unfortunately)/
So where do you draw the line?
|
As Inventory Admins, we are the last line of defense before bad data enters the
system. I take that responsibility *very* seriously. I draw my line when I personally
feel that I am comfortable enough that making the change to an inventory is a
good thing for BrickLink's catalog and BrickLink's users. If I do not
yet feel comfortable, I am going to question things until I either get comfortable
and accept the request or make a decision that I will wait for more data and
reject the request.
| Extra evidence based on my knowledge about this part:
- I believe the hinges with hollow studs were produced since late 1984. I know
that the light gray hinges with solid stud have never seen with this set (sealed,
copy,...) This inventory change request is an evidence for this:

I do not have a good knowledge of this part, so I cannot say whether your belief
is correct. As I have stated before, the images of the 720-1 that you posted
in this thread were *not* sealed, yet the auction was listed as such. That does
not instill me with confidence in the source. If you have further proof of a
sealed set for 720-1 like the images shown in the thread posted, please add them.
| The date of motor is 45 4 (45th week in 1984) and all parts also early version.
The set 7745 was released between 1985-90.
This set 720-1 was in market at least until 1989 so it is very unlikely that
the hinges with solid studs came with it until 1989. I believe they never came
with this set but that should be hard or rather impossible to prove
|
I am sorry that I can't make decisions based on beliefs for this set. Unfortunately,
if it is hard or impossible to prove, then the inventory will remain as is. I
will leave this request open for a while so yourself and others may have time
to add additional information.

I checked my PC and saw that I had saved these photos of a sealed copy few months
ago (during the time I could not submit any inventory change request) The seals
are intact based on the photos. Is this good enough?
The photos of this copy shows that the box is different. It has languages French
and Italian. The very interesting thing is that these light gray hinges appears
on the box "assembled" but it is written "3" under 4275a and "2" under 4531!
I have worked on this part for few months and realized that the very first time
it was produced was early 1985 yet it could had been used after until they ran
out of old stock of 4275a and 4276a. Do you note the transition time for each
part (to have a guideline)?
This is why I believed in this inventory change request.
|
The most interesting thing which is visible on your photos is completly different
printed parts list, compare with these.
|
Yes, this is what I mentioned. In 80s, there were variations of boxes based on
the language (so market). The box in my photos have languages D/F/I (German,
French, Italian)
The boxes mentioned in this thread are US (only English).
There should also be Canadian one (English, French) with a different box and
maybe different piece count (like the set 6384 or 6386 but I don't remember
which, I need to check later)
And UK/F/NL (see photo attached)
And Japanese!
There is also a box with seven languages which should be the one released in
1989 or later (see photo attached)
I didn't find photos of the part list printed on the side of the box for
other variations.
You may find this article interesting.

complete. Very interesting. Didn't know that this basic sets can have such

But it is clearly visible on other photo of this set that in fact these wheels
are not pre assembled despite what parts list on box shows.

Looks like the image on the box support this change.
And yes i know LEGO do changes after the photo is taken some time.
|
As you said, the photo of the box does not show anything because the box and
these photos were designed before the new variant 4275 (and 4276) were produced.
Another example of the exact same part (of the same color) is the set 7745-1
from the same year 1985.
https://www.bricklink.com/messageThread.asp?ID=235359
The date of the motor and other parts proves that this copy was a very early
release coming with 4275 and 4276. The photos of the box, the instructions and
catalogs show 4275a and 4276a. It is interesting that for a catalog of 1988,
new photos were taken from this train showing 4276

The right one seem to be a bit more purplish with a more matt surface?
I've some of the right ones and some of the left one too...

The only 4275 in Light Gray that I can see in that photo is upside down so that
I can only see the bottom of it. Is there a way to know what the studs on the
other side look like without being able to actually see them from that side?
Or is there something else in the photo that I am missing?
Thanks,

If you have any 1*2 plate around (or 1*3,...) check its bottom: that would be
how the bottom of hinge with solid stud look like; there should be a deep hole.
The bottom of the hinges with hollow stud look as in this photo.
|
OK. That makes sense.
I found the auction that contains the image you posted. The description of the
auction says "New in box original packaging". However, when you look at the images,
the seals on both ends of the box are cut open. How can I be sure this is really
a new copy of the set that was not tampered with?
Cheers,
Randy
|
I see the plastic bags inside the box. I think if I request extra photos or
ask him if the plastic bags are sealed, he would give the answer or provide extra
photos. Would you like me to contact the seller?
I may have photos of another copy of this set in my PC but I cannot check it
right now.
But then we can always push these arguments to any extend:
- How do we know a sealed set was not opened, tampered with and resealed again?
- how do we know if plastic bags were not opened and sealed again?
I may own a sealed vintage set but still not sure if it is original. Nowadays
there are more and more fake sealed sets (unfortunately)/
So where do you draw the line?
Extra evidence based on my knowledge about this part:
- I believe the hinges with hollow studs were produced since late 1984. I know
that the light gray hinges with solid stud have never seen with this set (sealed,
copy,...) This inventory change request is an evidence for this:
https://www.bricklink.com/messageThread.asp?ID=235359
The date of motor is 45 4 (45th week in 1984) and all parts also early version.
The set 7745 was released between 1985-90.
This set 720-1 was in market at least until 1989 so it is very unlikely that
the hinges with solid studs came with it until 1989. I believe they never came
with this set but that should be hard or rather impossible to prove

I use the BrickStock database to identify category changes. However, it won't
work for items that move to a different type (like your example). Reason is that
the BS database doesn't have unique identifiers for each item - my program
figures out any category changes by checking if there are such changes for partnr/type
pairs. I can't track changes across types of items, as there currently are
already items with the same nr in multiple types (and that wouldn't even
take into account the fact you will likely change the part nr in that example).

That is a wonderful tool and thank you for sharing it. BrickLink should absolutely
have something like that on-site: an easy-to-read, well-organized tool with pictures
which show when stuff is moved around and where it has gone.
| Currently I have it limited to only pick "parts" or "minifigs" - in the last
month there have been an _insane_ amount of category changes for gear/sets/instructions
etc.
|
This was the result of categorizing the 700+ items which had no categories and
these were necessary changes. I expect additional changes to occur in the future,
so I have saved your link and will share it again in the future if you don't
mind.
If you could figure out a way to add sets and gear without overwhelming your

The photos of the courtesy of collector nkiss82 who checked all parts in his
NIB set.
The manual: 120288
The catalog: D/A/CH/F/I 153382 (1986) this is a release of 1987 but the catalog
is the one from 1986 because there were no train catalog in 1987 so TLG used
the one form 1986.

"Marked for Deletion" should be allowed only for Admin. But that's just my

StormChaser IS admin.

Sorry I didn't see he's an Admin. I didn't mean it that way.

Anybody can ask whatever but only admins can accept or decline requests. Otherwise,
it would be a fine mess
So, if something was done, it was obligatory done by an admin. And admins usually
don’t do anything stupid.
The catalogue has some inconsistencies but they are worked upon. And, without
discrediting the other admins, StormChaser is cleaning tornado.
As you can see with these minifigs, a lot have been marked for deletion without
anyone doing anything about them (like sellers keeping selling them while they
shouldn’t). Just putting that big mark should (and already has) wake(n) them
up.

Wouldn't it be cool to be able to take a want list and instead of looking
for stores that have all the individual parts, do a search against "sets" or
multiples of sets that have all the parts on a want list.
Everything needed to make this tool already exists on Bricklink.
Parts want list - check
Sets, parts inventory - check (the part out tool)
This function could be added to the Buy section like the distillers to get from
the fewest stores, or best price etc - add sets to buy that have all the parts.
Then a shopper could shop for complete sets to buy from sellers or determine
that they already have the sets in their own collection to build the MOC they
are shopping for pieces for.
Example: I bought the instructions for the UCS U-wing project by Mirko (Awesome
MOC by the way and beautiful instruction book)
uploaded the parts list 430 different parts 3300 pieces total.
I would love to know if I could buy 4-5 sets to get all the parts I need to build
the UCS U-wing project and the extra pieces could go in my collection. Certainly
there would be a handful of random special pieces to buy separately but it would
be cool to have the option of buying a few complete sets to get the majority
of the parts.
Just a thought and the development cost would be minimal since the hard parts
(set part inventories & want lists) already exist.

Thanks for that
My doubts came because of this set
instruction parts list shows PCC 6184858 so part 93587 would be, but LEGO internet
parts list shows part 38224 being in this set.
So something is not quite right in inventories then
https://brickset.com/parts/design-93587
it is design from 2012 and it is shown in official LEGO inventories only in one
set in one color
in black
https://brickset.com/parts/design-38224
2018 design in all three sets from 2018 should be
in yellow
in red
in black
In our system set from 2018 - 70921 is inventoried with 93587
There is 6 years gap between these parts.
When you checking PCC is getting more interesting
93587 - PCC for black 4656765 given by both instruction for set 4438 and LEGO
internet inventory https://brickset.com/parts/design-93587
and here is everything OK
but
38224
In LEGO internet inventories are given these PCC
yellow - 6223495 in set 41456
red - 6223499 in set 70921
black - 6223500 in set 41195
in our system we have only these for black and yellow enetered
but in instructions for two of these 2018 sets PCC are completely different:
yellow - 6184858 in set 41456
red - 6186057 in set 70921
and they are currently entered under "older variant" 93587
I couldn't find sources for these PCC:
6188936 black 93587
4613118 red 93587
So one set from 2018 have "new variant" 38224 in inventory, PCC in instruction
and LEGO internet parts list is the same - 41195
One set from 2018 have in instruction different PCC than PCC in LEGO internet
parts list and have "old variant" in invetory - 70921
Third one 41456 is currently under checking old one or new one variant. PCC diffres
in instruction and LEGO internet parts list
Maybe also PCCs are wrongly applied here?

P.S. So also renders are probably messed too then if 9387 came only in black
Is there 93587 in sand blue exists?

That might help you find the differences on the real parts, if they exist because

I looked at the two BL pics (official Lego renders?): I believe there’s a difference
around the stud hole (red circles) and, maybe at the top of the fender (orange
circles).
BUT 93587 at on top of 38224 on my comparison pic, so it’s the opposite of the
description (93587 is rounder).

This stickersheet came in early releases of this set. add also the regular 1x4 bricks and the already in pattern red/white stripes pattern move to the alt. section. So make the '99' MID.

This is not redesigned set just stickered part changed to printed one so I don't
think these alternates qualify to get 99 MID just normal alternates MID will
do in my opinion.

| For those of us that run a shop with the inventory storage based on the BL catalog,
it can be a puzzle when items get moved to a different category.
Internally we have a web page that shows items that have moved. Would that be
helpful for others as well? See this link:
http://www.qwertyboy.org/files/BL/BL-catalog-changes.php
Currently I have it limited to only pick "parts" or "minifigs" - in the last
month there have been an _insane_ amount of category changes for gear/sets/instructions
etc.
Niek.

| So we all have want lists, right?

Yes, and if they cannot do tags then maybe consistency in naming. Such as having
bigfig in the title, like microfigs do.

Sounds like a plan. I will see what I can do about that.

"Marked for Deletion" should be allowed only for Admin. But that's just my

As you can see with these minifigs, a lot have been marked for deletion without
anyone doing anything about them (like sellers keeping selling them while they
shouldn’t). Just putting that big mark should (and already has) wake(n) them
up.

Why are some of them are marked for deletion?

Most of the minifigures currently marked for deletion have been that way for
years, some for many years. However, this fact became much more noticeable recently
when I added MARKED FOR DELETION to their titles.
Most of them were marked for deletion because they did not meet inventory standards:
https://www.bricklink.com/help.asp?helpID=200
The figures marked for deletion don't need to be added to the catalog again
because the majority of them (actually, probably all of them) were already added
again with correct photos/inventories according to inventory standards.
