First of all: be my guest, if you want to use this option go ahead it's your
store and your items to sell. No problem at all.

But.. just for arguments sake... what would be the buyer experience of this?
It's all psychology, so think it through I would say, place yourself in a
buyer shoes.

Also... technically, wouldn't there be many easy ways to simply go around
this 'restriction'? I don't know... just a thought... aren't
you just trying to influence something which is just an idea in your head but
has nothing to do with reality?

I think I would not use this option.

Enjoy,
Arnoud

In Suggestions, Teup writes:
  I would really like to see a new parameter for lots that limits the amount a
buyer can buy of a certain part in any one order. The part would then turn up
in search results and in store inventory showing not more than the value specified.
It's something that many online stores use, notably also LEGO themselves.

So far the way to do this is to offer the desired max amount, put in remarks
how much is left, and put the item on retain. This has several drawbacks, most
of all:
- You have to manually reoffer and modify the remarks all the time
- You cannot see or accurately modify the price and other stats of your inventory
because part of the amount of what you have is hidden in remarks

This could all be solved by 1 simple extra field, that is left on 0 when unused.

Of course, the item should not appear updated for users that still have an order
that has not yet reached the packed status. Of course buyers can buy again after
that, but separate shipping and handling fees should be sufficient to bar the
effect of buyers blowing sudden holes in your inventory.

Never seen this brick with just 2 pins, or any other 1x6 with just 2 pins.

First idea is that the pins have broken off, but then I saw you are from Denmark.
How close to Billund are you? Over the years there have come a lot of parts from
Denmark, which look out of the ordinary but still are original Lego. Test bricks
from TLG. Or parts made for Legoland. Or for employees. Or... any number of reasons
might be valid.

E.g. 5 years ago I purchased this sign from a Danish seller. So far only 1 has
surfaced (on BrickLink). There are more examples, this is just one.

I’d say:
upper left = a mix of flat silver (shiny) and DBG (not shiny)
upper right = metallic silver
bottom middle = LBG

You're right, the upper left contained still 2 LBG. Thanks for pointing that
out!

The bottom middle is not LBG, I'm certain (well 99%) so could it be Pearl
Light Grey?

The fact the parts are round makes it difficult to see which are shiny because
they are new and which are shiny because they are silver.

True. And used parts can be discolered... giving a multiple of shades...

Hey!!

There are many parts available in colors that never came in sets.
How and why these came on the market anyway I don't know.

Your DG items look like Lego to me.

According to the catalog, this part has never been released in DG.

Where does this piece come from? Is it real Lego? I have not found any fake lego
in the bunch.

Thanks!

Why not give the user control about what they want to see?

This is a good idea. You could visit a set inventory and click buttons to see
the set as it appeared new or see it as it should appear used.

It is not a matter of new or used. But I like hte idea. Perhaps it should
toggle between set inventory WITH or WITHOUT assemblies. Like when parting out
a set the system has an option for parting out minfigs as well, or not.

The unfortunate problem is that it would likely take a significant amount of
programming. The BL programmers are working on their own projects and I doubt
this would be a priority for them. Could it be done? Yes. Would we see it
sometime within the next 10 years? Possibly.

The issue of part assemblies has been ongoing for over a decade. I see no reason
why we can't get it fixed right now.

Also, changing the options for viewing inventories doesn't really address
at all the issue of where we should stop with part assemblies.

As used-parts collector and seller I see it as follows:

Assemblies.

Assemblies, found as used, may have damage or discoloring on one part while the
other part is good; in general I prefer to disassemble assemblies as much as
possible (like wheel/tire, hinges, etc.) and list each part seperately, therefore
I would prefer to see each individual part available in the Catalog, and as such
listed in Set-inventories.

So in general from my perspective, as used-parts collector and seller, I have
little need for assemblies, except if dissassembly would unrepairably damage
some or all of the parts, like stickered parts, or most likely damage some of
the assembly, like the 3149- and 3324-series hinges, and maybe some wheel/tires,
in which case I do not take them apart, and list them as assembly if that is
available. Although listing them as one part (e.g. the wheel) and mentioning
in the description that it includes the other part (the tire) often works just
as well.

Counterparts.

I have no objection at all to counterparts, nor to assemblies as counterparts.
Counterparts are usefull imo, and with respect to assemblies like stickered over
parts very much desirable.

Like the mentioned hinges however, these could be listed as Superlot in the store,
but then they would not be visible in set-inventories, so I would prefer these
as assembly-counterparts.

Another example of parts that could be an assembly but not neccessarily are below,
it is almost similar to stickered over parts, but not entirely, because these
can be disassembled, however the upper- and lower-pattern on various bricks often
do NOT line-up and I am quite happy when I find two bricks with matching print.
Superlotting these works fine though, on the rare occasion I have these bricks
at all.

In LEGO, StormChaser writes:
  There has been inconsistency for many years regarding when part assemblies should
or should not be included as counterparts in set inventories. I believe this
has been due to not having written standards regarding this issue. Therefore,
I'd like to create some.

As part of the discussion and decision-making process I'm seeking input from
the community on how you'd like to see part assemblies handled in inventories.
I have updated this page to include my idea of one way to handle assemblies
(see the section titled Additional Information About Counterparts: Part Assemblies
as Counterparts
):

https://www.bricklink.com/help.asp?helpID=1562

This rule is currently just my idea and no inventories are being changed right
now in regards to that section.

If that's the route we go, then it would mean the removal of certain parts
as counterparts from set inventories. These are some examples of parts which
would likely be removed from inventories because they don't comply with the
rule:

Part No: 40243c02 Name: Stairs Spiral Steps 8 with Support
*
40243c02 (Inv) Stairs Spiral Steps 8 with Support
Parts: Stairs

Part No: 91049c02 Name: Minifigure, Utensil Barbell Weights with White Bar
*
91049c02 (Inv) Minifigure, Utensil Barbell Weights with White Bar
Parts: Minifigure, Utensil

Part No: 37702pb01c01 Name: Minifigure, Utensil Suitcase with Gold Clasps Pattern
*
37702pb01c01 (Inv) Minifigure, Utensil Suitcase with Gold Clasps Pattern
Parts: Minifigure, Utensil, Decorated

Part No: 33172c01 Name: Carrot with Bright Green Top (33172 / 33183)
*
33172c01 (Inv) Carrot with Bright Green Top (33172 / 33183)
Parts: Food & Drink

Those parts would join other existing parts in the catalog which are not connected
to any set inventories:

Part No: 30163c01pb01 Name: Container, Coffin with Tan Mummy Relief Colorful Pattern Lid (Sarcophagus)
*
30163c01pb01 (Inv) Container, Coffin with Tan Mummy Relief Colorful Pattern Lid (Sarcophagus)
Parts: Container, Decorated

Part No: 3937c01  Name: Hinge Brick 1 x 2 with (Same Color) Top Plate (3937 / 3938)
*
3937c01 (Inv) Hinge Brick 1 x 2 with (Same Color) Top Plate (3937 / 3938)
Parts: Hinge

Part No: 3830c01 Name: Hinge Brick 1 x 4 Swivel
*
3830c01 Hinge Brick 1 x 4 Swivel
Parts: Hinge
Marked for Deletion

Part No: 3640c01  Name: Hinge Plate 2 x 4 with Articulated Joint (3640 / 3639)
*
3640c01 (Inv) Hinge Plate 2 x 4 with Articulated Joint (3640 / 3639)
Parts: Hinge

Part No: 60592c01  Name: Window 1 x 2 x 2 Flat Front with Trans-Clear Glass (60592 / 60601)
*
60592c01 (Inv) Window 1 x 2 x 2 Flat Front with Trans-Clear Glass (60592 / 60601)
Parts: Window

The catalog entries would likely remain for any parts removed from inventories
and could still be used for buying and selling just as they are now.

The second route we could go is to include all of the existing part assemblies
in the catalog in inventories. That opens the door to many more part assemblies
being added to the catalog and to inventories. My concern with that approach
is that eventually you fill up inventories (and the catalog) with part assemblies
- especially when you consider stickered/printed assemblies, assembly color variations,
and part variant assemblies.

As an example of all the assemblies which could be added to the catalog for just
a couple of parts, see this list:

https://www.bricklink.com/catalogRelList.asp?relID=13&catID=642

If going the route of inclusion in inventories doesn't open the door to new
assemblies, then we must live with inconsistencies in which parts are added as
assemblies and which are not. As an example of that inconsistency, why is the
first of these two assemblies included in inventories and there is not even a
catalog entry for the second assembly?

Part No: hngpltc01 Name: Hinge Plate 1 x 2 with Single / Double Finger (hngpltS / hngpltD)
*
hngpltc01 (Inv) Hinge Plate 1 x 2 with Single / Double Finger (hngpltS / hngpltD)
Parts: Hinge

Part No: 4275 Name: Hinge Plate 1 x 2 with 3 Fingers on End (Undetermined Type)
*
4275 Hinge Plate 1 x 2 with 3 Fingers on End (Undetermined Type)
Parts: Hinge

Part No: 4276 Name: Hinge Plate 1 x 2 with 2 Fingers on End (Undetermined Type)
*
4276 Hinge Plate 1 x 2 with 2 Fingers on End (Undetermined Type)
Parts: Hinge

LEGO parts can be assembled in a myriad of ways and there are many parts which
naturally fit together. At some point a line absolutely has to be drawn on what
is included in inventories. Where do you feel the line should be drawn?

Yes, yes, yes! I have always hated that, and it seems like a very easy fix.

Selecting the Price Guide Info column, does show the CORRECT color image,

out later in sunlight. Best is to have them in a pile like you have and then
pick out the ones that do not look as bright, those would be brown (technical
term would be less red, but that would confuse the issue)
If your pile is the same I've marked the ones that stand out clearly.

Best way is to make a color palette. I have one for nearly every color and it
is obvious when you compare them vs the palette. Put the colors that are similar
right next to each other so it is even easier to distinguish them apart from
each other. This picture looks like medium dark flesh almost due to the lighting
and I believe I counted at least 9 that do not look the same color as the rest.

Yes, I have a palet. It helps me for all colors, except Brown and Reddish Brown.
I just don't see it. Even in the palet they look the same to me so I do not
put them besides each other because it confuses me even more. I am avoiding the
whole issue by not putting these colors in my store, but even so I would love
to learn to tell the difference.

With the right lighting (led, or halogene) I learned Blue vs Blue-Violet, Light
Bluish Grey vs Light Grey, etc. But Brown and Reddish Brown....

The light color is much more important than the light source. Many of our light
have light in the 2800-3000 Kelvin range. That light is yellow and makes it difficult
to see the difference. Make sure you use daylight color or a more blueish color
light.

Good idea, I will try that!
Thx

  Is there any chance that paired items such as wedges (left and right) would receive
their own entry in the catalog, much like the pair of minifig arms entry?

Example:

Part No: 981982 Name: Arm, (Matching Left and Right) Pair
*
981982 (Inv) Arm, (Matching Left and Right) Pair
Parts: Minifigure, Body Part

Super-lots are a pain to work with and BL buyers don't seem to read listing
notes that items must be purchased with matching side (maybe due to generating
carts from wanted lists).

Paired parts are usefull if they match a pattern of some kind, like below. The
pattern on different upper/lower bricks isn't always on the same place (by
the mm) so a matching pair is of interest to the buyer. I would support a pair-entry
for this kind of items. (Although using a superlot is doing the trick too.)

Part No: 3008p01 Name: Brick 1 x 8 with Red Cross Upper Half Pattern
*
3008p01 Brick 1 x 8 with Red Cross Upper Half Pattern
Parts: Brick, Decorated

Part No: 3008p02 Name: Brick 1 x 8 with Red Cross Lower Half Pattern
*
3008p02 Brick 1 x 8 with Red Cross Lower Half Pattern
Parts: Brick, Decorated

However, for wedges or other kinds of 'paires' which do not share a pattern
or something else I don't see the added value. They are just two items in
a set, it does not matter which ones are used they always fit.

IMO the catalog entry for paired arms is redundant, an exception. If it was deleted
I would not miss it.

Maybe an improved interface for superlots would help.

All of these doors have glued glass, hole or no hole, with one exception: 32b

So there is a seperate entry.

I have several of these in red ABS

I am interested, sent you a PM

Today I have issued an add item request for this hinge without hole, as 3149ac01.
If it is accepted I will add an inventory too, with black pivot. The later version,
3149c01, has a hole in the plates to accommodate a string for crane sets. The
first being 337-2 from 1969.

In Catalog Inventories, SezaR writes:
  I have three variations of these hinges. They all a hole, but the first two variations
have a smaller hole between the two studs on the first row. See my photo attached.

Do you have another variation coming with a black pivot but without that hole?

I would like to add a Black Pivot to the inventory of 3149c01 as alternate for
the Red one.

https://www.bricklink.com/catalogInvChangeAdd.asp

Looks as if it is not possible to add Alternates?

Part No: 3149c01  Name: Hinge Plate 2 x 4
*
3149c01 (Inv) Hinge Plate 2 x 4
Parts: Hinge
Alternates are not possible for parts and minifigures.

To do this correctly we need a new part entry, one that has a black pin. I rejected
an entry for one last year because the change to black pin seemed to be very
late and didn't look significant so I just added a note. But if it is important
to you to have black shown as a known color, then submit an entry and I'll
get it approved.

It seems not that important, only because of the Pivot. There aren't much
of these hinges with Black Pivot and I have no knowledge in which sets they occured
so it wouldn't add significant information.

The first of these hinges however had no hole in the plates, and black pivot.
Two differences thus. This might be interesting enough for a new entry. I'll
issue a request for this hinge.

Also. Changing the Note on 3149c01 would be appreciated though. It is wrong.

Maybe all trans clear 2 x 4 bricks in official sets are of the 3001old variety?
Would certainly match the release dates of those sets. Current trans 3003s are
of the 3003old variety but are listed under 3003 as per BL policy, so any 3001
trans that surfaced now would probably still be of the 3001old variety.

I would like to add a Black Pivot to the inventory of 3149c01 as alternate for
the Red one.

https://www.bricklink.com/help.asp?helpID=215#submitReq

Looks as if it is not possible to add Alternates?

Hi,

A note on the following part:

Part No: 3149c01  Name: Hinge Plate 2 x 4
*
3149c01 (Inv) Hinge Plate 2 x 4
Parts: Hinge

The inventory has the following Note:
Later versions of this part had a black pivot.

However IMO this is incorrect, it's the earlier (!) versions of this part
that had a black pivot.

I have seen many of these hinges, and only the early versions of this hinge had
black pivots, all later versions have red pivot.

I don't know how to change the Note on this item, so maybe one of the Cat
Admins wants to change it? Thank you! Or tell me how to do it

Best regards,
Arnoud van den Bos

It looks darker on the photo than it actually is, difficult to say. My guess
is it is regular Orange.

The photo makes it look like regular Orange, but I am sure you checked that.
So if it isn't regular Orange, that leaves Earth Orange and Medium Orange.
Earth Orange is the darker of the two, so I would assume it is that one:

However, I would check against Medium Orange, also, just to be sure:

Too complicated if you ask me.

I think the Catalog will be, or needs to be, generic when it comes
to variants simply because it is sometimes unknown exactly or too much detailed
to add all variants. Much like it is now.

However, the seller has a specific item in hand. Now what does s/he wants
to do?

a) List the generic item as compliant with the Catalog? No problem.

b) List the item as specific? With this specific listing of this item
the seller needs to be able to select specific alternatives from those available
in the Catalog for this item.

The buyer then can check the inventory for this specific listing, and
s/he sees either the generic inventory from the Catalog, or the alternatives
selected by the seller.

This way the Catalog does not need to be changed. It is the listing of the seller
that needs additional functionality.

  Last time we discussed this issue, there were perhaps 3 or 4 sellers actively
involved.

Call the tax office and ask how to handle this: they might just tell you to use
the wholesale VAT rate on all items, argueing the 'margin'-rules do not apply
to you.

You might pay a bit more VAT, but it also saves you a lot of administration &
therefore a lot of time.

Hth,
Arnoud

Bit more VAT? If I paid VAT on used items by the normal rules (paying 27% on
sale price) I'd lose huge amounts of money as I can't reclaim VAT on purchases
from private sellers. (As they obviously can't provide one with legit receipts
showing VAT.)

If in a quarter year I bought used Lego for 1000 EUR and sold used Lego for 1200
EUR I'd have to pay the following VAT:
- 200 EUR *0.27 by the margin rule
- or 1200 EUR *0.27 by the normal rules with showing VAT in prices with no possibility
to reclaim any VAT on my purchase costs.

Seems to me you are making much more than 200 euro on 1000?
Like 500 or 600?
The difference is much smaller then.

But indeed with 27% VAT ... that is quite high
